If you're looking for poolside relaxation with great service and drinks, Chuckwalla Bar & Grill is a good spot to kick back and enjoy. The bartenders here deserve every one of these four stars--super friendly, fun to chat with, and they really add a great vibe to the whole place. Plus, the drink specials are solid and make for a fun time lounging by the pool. Those poolside loungers are definitely a plus, making it easy to unwind. That said, a major warning: avoid the food. I tried the recommended burger and onion rings, and unfortunately, it ended in a bad case of food poisoning. It's a real shame since this is the only dining option on the resort property, but I'd highly recommend going off-property for any meals. Can't beat the location - beautiful pool and Mountain Views. It's your typical pool bar - burgers. Sandwiches, salads, nachos, quesadillas, appetizers, beer, wine and cocktails. Pricing also fairly typical for a pool bar - about $18 for food; $15 for cocktails. $2 off drinks during happy hour, 3-close daily. Mostly order at the counter, but there was usually one server walking around the pools, taking drink orders. One server even did a dance for the guests every hour or so! This time, I just got the pina colada w/ Meyer rum float. And it was refreshing, not too strong. But not too sweet. You can pay extra for a "double." The mango tango was beautiful, and frozen mojito looked pretty tasty, too. Today being St. Patrick's day, they had some St. Patty's Day drink specials, too! read more

Concise Review Great poolside food, drinks, & staff ----- Longer Review We have visited Marriott's Shadow Ridge in Palm Desert since 2002, and afternoons at the pool, with food and drinks from Chuckwalla Bar & Grill, are a bit part of every trip. One of my all time favorite photos is from a nice afternoon, poolside, several years ago when the kids were little... it was one of our most fun and peaceful afternoons as a family anywhere... the photos is of our daughter, asleep on my wonderful wife, my wonderful wife smiling at me, and our son was on the chair in between us, smiling as he was drinking a strawberry smoothie from Chuckwalla's... such a blessing. We visited Southern California - Palm Desert, Yucaipa, and Malibu - for Spring Break 2021. This trip we had more activities off-property than usual, so we only got one nice long afternoon at the pool, and RebekahM made it a little extra special. The sun, the water, fun in the pool... and smoothies... such a joy. Before I had a chance to think about it, smoothies were en route from Chuckwalla... strawberry, banana, and alcohol-free pina colada. Rebekah delivered them to us with a big smile and infectiously positive attitude. As someone who spent many years as a chef- take this review as someone who knows what they are taking about. You HAVE to eat these fish tacos! Perfectly balanced, flavor is there, the freshness is there, just a perfect lunch! I appreciated all of the non-alcoholic options for beverages as well for those who don't drink & for my kiddos as well. The staff here was amazing. I particularly appreciate Guillermo & Israel. I hope you all tip them BIG as well. These guys were quick and super friendly. "A lot of love went into this drink!" was told to me and I believe it. Chuckwalla poolside bar and snacks is amazingly convenient and a brilliant idea for a resort like this. If you're looking for something at Shadow Ridge that isn't steak house pricing, but is conveniently located near your pool or near your room, this is it. Is it a bit pricey for what it is serving and not being a table service restaurant? Absolutely. But your options here are limited. Our bartender was friendly and good with suggestions on what to try. We ended up getting a turkey wrap with the chips, a soda, the buffalo wrap with fries, and a pina colada. I wouldn't recommend the Turkey wrap as it lacks a bit in flavor. The buffalo wrap was refreshing and I enjoyed it. Chips are good here, so no need to upgrade to fries. I liked the chips dipped in ranch. The fries are yummy. The pina colada was good. The soda is no refills in a tiny cup at a crazy price and I was so annoyed by that. If you're gonna charge outrageous soda prices, at least give refills. Anyways, judging from past Yelp reviews I expected inedible food and an awful experience. It was far from that. If you want to spend hours by the pool, or just not leave the hotel campus, this is the place for you! read more

This is a bar and grill located in the Shadow Ridge resort by one of their pools, the Chuckwalla, hence the name!! At poolside I never expect good food but at a resort I thought just maybe!! Well I was wrong!!! For starters the food order is placed at the bar where drinks are made. They should have their own window for that. We were given a buzzer to notify us when it was ready. It took a long time to get the food being it wasn't busy at that time. We ordered an appetizer which didn't come out until we got the whole order. The appetizer was called PALM PALM shrimp. We didn't ask ahead what it was but we were not expecting teriyaki sauced small shrimp laying on a bed of lettuce with a side of shredded raw carrots and celery pieces. It was the weirdest app I've ever had. I just didn't understand it, lol!! As for the rest of the food well it wasn't the best. My son had a corn dog and fries which is hard to mess up. The fries were good though!! My daughter had fish tacos which I ordered plain, just fish and tortilla, but they still put tartar sauce and somehow got it on the side of fruit. My California wrap was turkey, cheese and some greens. Tasted like it was sliced deli meat with American cheese and no dressing inside. Again, the fries were good at least!! The best part was the hubby's Cobb salad! It was fresh and had lots of egg and bacon. I was definitely happy with the bar drinks though!! Beer is served in an ice cup so it doesn't go warm. It's okay..nothing is ever terrible. The drinks aren't super boozy so expect your standard pool side drinks that have just a splash of the good stuff in them (besides the bloody marys which are GREAT) and Nedy is excellent serving that pool! The smoothies are good, nachos were okay..chicken tenders and fries, all okay. The prices are, IMO, at least all a dollar or few too high. Pina coladas are $12, smoothies $8, chicken tenders $12, chips and salsa $8..$36 bucket of 6 beers..the list goes on. They do have servers walking around the pool to take orders and people working the kitchen and bar, so I do expect to pay a price for the convenience and pool service..maybe just a buck or two cheaper. Overall nothing remarkable here, but it's a nice service to offer guests and I enjoyed splurging at the pool every now and then. read more

First time here. By the reviews, I expected McDonald's type food. I was surprised when I ate my food! It was really good! Especially the fry's!!! I had the Chicken Sandwich on a ciabatta roll. It was really tasty! Prices are a bit high (I'm really cheap), but what do you expect from a pool side place? If you don't want to go back to your villa, or drive out of the resort, this place is great! Service was also faster than I expected! My family is constantly at Shadow Ridge, and we are always right across the street from this bar. We love going here and love the choices on the menu . My favourite thing to get is the frozen grapes, and the cheese flatbread. It is a little spendy, but since we are on vacation I think it is worth it. I highly recommend this place, with the great food choices and the amazing staff. They are so friendly and always seem to put a smile on my face. Also, it is super convenient since there is pool side service and room charging. No need to get out a credit card, all you have to do is give them your room number. The fact that they don't take cash doesn't bother me, because of the room charging, but i understand being a little flustered about that. All in all, me and my family LOVE this place, and highly recommend it. Make sure you try the frozen grapes though, they are a great price and are so tasty and refreshing! read more
