I would give 5 stars, but the service was really lacking. Our first time at Chula...the server offered zero guidance from the menu. Served ice tea, with cinnamon and something else. Asked for sweetener....waited...waited...asked another passing server. Asked for a paper napkin...waited...waited...server returns and asks us to remind him what we needed. This establishment is only open until 2:30, and not crowded. I ordered the Chula Special (pork) chicken was unavailable tamale with a poached egg...it was good. Also ordered the Esquites and was a small serving for the price, but very delicious. Hubby ordered the tacos and though very messy were also very good, neither of us cared for the black beans that were included, pasty and bland. I would try Chula again! read more

The food here was amazing! I absolutely will always support farm to table restaurants so it was a pleasure to come here. The only thing was that it took a while for the food to come out and so I wouldn't come here if you were in a rush. I read about this new place on the Food Network since Guy Fieri stopped in a few weeks ago. I have not seen the DDD episode, but the recipes looked good so we went to lunch there on this past Monday. We each ordered the chilaquiles bowl - one green and one red. I love chilaquiles and the ones made here are the best I've ever tasted. Both sauces are subtle and beautifully prepared. The heat level is not elevated but you can add Cholula if you like. I added nothing. The preparation is too good to mess with. I did add salt & pepper to the poached egg. Both preps are delicious. When we were finished I still needed a bit more so we got a piece of the carrot cake and it was also very well made. Lots of nuts & seeds and a vegan recipe so there are no eggs used and cake crumb is different and very good. I had the black tea with a touch of cinnamon and it is also very good. We will return and try other items including one or more of the salads. Add this to your rotation. read more

Rave reviews from others prompted us to give this place a try... The Good- Rachel's service was professional, friendly, spoke with detailed knowledge about many menu items, ambiance was comfortable casual with a touch of elegance with the high ceiling, light fixtures, and full-length turquoise blue bench seating along the back wall, bright pink sofas. The Not So Good- waited a bit too long for decaf coffee to be served, server was busy with others, the runner was available to help serve coffee, but instead we had to wait. We arrived hungry and left disappointed. -Mom's Chilaquiles with red sauce... The Good- The sauce was very tasty with an enjoyable light sweetness, the poached egg was cooked medium as requested, ingredients were fresh, presentation was simple. The Not So Good- dish arrived at room temperature- not hot as I had hoped, poached egg was small in size, small amount of shredded white chicken was dry and chewy, the rest was just tortillas and sauce. I'm used to Chilaquiles being a large filling meal. This was a much simpler "artisan" style small size plate at a higher price point. No side dishes included with the plate. -Chile Relleno with 2 Shrimp and 1 Scallop... The Good- very tasty shrimp and scallop The Not So Good- dish arrived at room temperature- not hot as what was hoped for (possibly both dishes sat on the counter a bit too long before being served?), batter was soggy...not crisp, one lonely Chile relleno by itself is a la carte at a higher price point, not a plate. No side dishes included with the plate. We don't mind paying higher prices for quality. Unfortunately we were not impressed, so not worth our drive from RanchoM, but wish this business all the best hoping they improve on the above points. read more

I have hardly gone out to eat during covid and decided to take my mom, vs going to Panera or a more commercial place. I understood the service taking longer than normal, because they had just opened. We ordered Huevos Rancheros to share, a latté and soup to go (a special on their board for $6 or $11). Unbeknownst upon ordering, I was charged nearly double to split the entree, $7 for the latte (no menu pricing) and $13 for soup to go. The soup took forever and at first came out in a bowl after waiting 20 min once we were done... I was completely sticker shocked! The food here is incredible and everyone is very nice but the service is so so slow. The owner was here the first time we came and she was making sure things were running smoothly and food was coming out quickly. The second time we came, we noticed she was not there and we waited over 40 minutes just for our appetizer. I would recommend it because of the food but service needs some help. read more

First time trying this eatery! The atmosphere was excellent , had such San Francisco vibes I noticed right away when I walked in! I miss that city and just for that reason will frequent this place. The food was delicious and very flavorful. We ordered allot of different dishes and tried in our large group. The Chili Relleno was delicious as well as their offering of my favorite biscuits from The Biscuit counter in Palm Springs!I If you haven't tried these they are a must! I had Chilaquiles which the pork and green sauce were divine!! So many more things I will be trying. If your in the desert this is a must for breakfast or lunch. This is not your ordinary Mexican food! OMG The service was attentive but I never felt rushed. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. Basically, this is Mexican food taken to a higher level in a mom & pop diner style. Fresh, locally sourced and unique dishes. If this restaurant wasn't 50 miles from my house, I would eat there at least a couple of times a week. Next time I will will try a different menu item - maybe the brioche French Toast? Pro: The vegan friendly food. Best vegan pancakes I've ever had. The vegan butter was amazing. My fiancé got the vegan breakfast bowl which she claimed was the best she ever had as well. I don't know what's in the quinoa but I've never tasted any that good before. The margaritas were also great. Con: The service left something to be desired. While not outright rude, it was clear from the moment we walked in that we weren't really welcome. We noticed the staff smiling and tending to "others" while we received no smiles and we had to ask multiple times for a single straw. Their tones weren't friendly and it "seemed" like they blatantly ignored us a few times. We also noticed other parties of 2 arrive well after us and receive their food way before we did. Therefore I didn't feel bad only tipping 15% versus the usual 20%. read more
