Came into this new, small (but mighty!) place last week and I'm afraid I may have to put in a standing order. We didn't know what to get so the very friendly man at the counter suggested some things and we couldn't say no. We had a sample of a bunch of stuff and have no complaints. All of it was warm and cooked correctly at the same time- which I know isn't the easiest of things to do! The fried shrimp were about as big as my hand (see photo... no joke!) and they paired well with the cocktail sauce. Fried cod pieces were crisp and super flaky and glistening. Zero fishy taste to anything which is also amazing. We rounded out our feast with some great broiled walleye. It had an amazing seasoning to it and was a nice different taste than the fried fish. The decor is super cute and puts you in the mood for the food. There are noticeable personal touches that are thoughtful throughout the space. I read at about this place and had a taste for shrimp dinner. I ordered 1/2 pound of shirmp,1/2 pound of clan strips and hush puppies. My order was cooled fresh I only had to wait about 10 minutes. Nice surprise in St. Charles. Stopped in on a Saturday about 6:45 PM. Place was busy but the food was worth the wait. I had the half pound of battered shrimp with a side of cole slaw. My wife had the sampler with 2 battered shrimp, 2 coconut shrimp & 2 pieces of fish + it came with a side (she also chose cole slaw.) Shrimp we're large & tasty, as was the fish. Food - incredibly fresh! The shrimp and cod were very very moist. The batter was light and perfectly crispy! Not greasy! The sauces were pretty good, notably the bang bang sauce. I hate to burst everyone's bubble but the food is god awful! The picture is the fried clam strips, 1/2 pound of deep-fried breading that was so hard you couldn't even chew it. The calamari, if that's what they want to call it, was really inedible; they could've deep-fried rubber bands and probably had a better result. The coconut shrimp, it wasn't terrible, it just wasn't great. The highlight of the food, the french fries! I will give them credit there they were very good, but you don't go to a fried fish joint for great french fries. I will give kudos to the staff, they were extremely polite friendly and accommodating, but as far as the food goes I don't think it deserves one star, it was that bad. read more

I placed an order through Yelp/Grubhub at 5:05 pm. I arrived to Chums at 5:30 to an email that was sent at 5:23 saying my order was cancelled I tell the guy behind the counter and he says yea, we don't work with grub hub anymore. I place my order for a chicken tender meal, a fried shrimp and cod combo, crab Rangoon, and mojito shrimp wrap. The guy tells me go and wait in my car and he'll bring it out to me. I say okay, how long? He says it'll be a minute I say okay and go to my car. My aunt calls at 6:05 to find out how long? He said it's the next order up, when three people walked in AFTER me to place their order and had their food and were gone. At 6:30 I'm walking towards the day to complain bc at this point I'm pissed at the whole process and my toddler daughter is losing her shit in my backseat from being her car seat since 5pm. As I'm walking to the door a guy is walking out with my order and I tell him oh I was just coming to complain he says "I'm open. It is what it is" WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FCK?!? How does someone with that piss poor attitude own a business and stay in business? I tell him well I've been waiting an hour. My order was not that complicated. I get to my car open the bag of food and there's 3 chicken tenders, 3 pieces of cod, 3 shrimp, 5 crab Rangoon, fries, and a wrap take an hour to make?!?
