I had a tempura dish which came with miso soup, salad, and rice. everything was tasty and came out real quick. best of all, the price was very very reasonable. Stopped by here for a light meal. I keep going here for convenience, and they never cease to let me down. Whether it's a worker not washing their hands after a bathroom trip, workers out back smoking, or cheaply made meals, there is always something to disappoint my meal. Maybe I need to lower my standards. This place is mediocre Chinese take-out. Period. If you go into with those expectations, you'll be fine. The meat in the hot and sour soup has been reduced to zero over the past couple years. The vegetables (i.e. Chicken & broccoli) are never fresh and the meats don't seem like good, quality cuts. The sushi is OK and the drinks are always good. My wife hates them because they don't have anything that resembles a Gluten Free selection. Overall, I wouldn't recommend unless you're in a pinch. Service very slow. We sat for at least an hour without as much as tea. We finally flagged down the waitress and she hastily took our orders. Things began to arrive on the table, tea, appetizers, etc. The appetizers were fair but not that appealing, dim sum and dumplings. I regretted eating those. Not that they were terrible, but just not quality IMO. The entrees arrived soon after, and Ihad the Moo Shu chicken. It was decent, but the pancakes were dry and tasted of flour. Diverted to the rice instead. Hot and Sour soup was ok. Other entrees were the "Whole Peking Duck" which seemed overcooked and certainly not the whole duck. The Volcano Steak did not come out in flames, and was reeking of alcohol (because it's supposed to be lit), and the waitress lit it upon request. Tasted like the alcohol still after the flames went out. There were other dishes but no negative comments from those eating them. As we finished up the waitress was attentive to box up the leftovers. In fairness, the restaurant was overloaded for the amount of wait staff present, they were trying hard to service everyone. So they need more staff I guess. Our waitress was just overwhelmed at the peak period, and seemed more available as people left. I have been to Chun Bo a number of times many years ago and it was very good. Very disappointing take-out meal today! We've eaten here many times prior to the pandemic and been satisfied with the food and the service. However, today we took food out and the shrimp chowfun had less than salad-sized shrimp and the dish itself was bland. We ordered fried dumplings and Gyoza which were ok but the dipping sauce was for one person. The first clue is the stirring rendition of "Reunited" by some chinese instrumented orchestra. In a nutshell this restaurant offers chinese style food that will live up to the expecations of most non-Asian or non gourmet palates. The tea was familiar (oolong) but not spectacular. The delivery of the oh so authentic fried noodles was prompt along with the classic sweet and sour sauce and chinese looking mustard. Strangely, the mustard was bereft of taste and heat. Safe for children I guess. We ordered the classic won ton soup which again arrived promptly and was fairly warm. The won tons were a bit tough but still tasty and the broth was a bit salty but still tasty. Next up was kung bo chicken while my partner had shrimp and cashews. Being an aficionado of hot and spicy food, I asked for Extra Spicy. I know from past experience that kung bo (po) chicken in the proper hands can melt paint. Not this time. I actually did not detect any heat level. I'd rather not imagine what the regular recipe tastes like. My partner has less discerning tastes in the area of asian food and she was quite happy with her selection deeming it "quite tasty". Portions were large with enough leftovers for at least another meal The room was well lit and comfortable and decorated in classic Chinese Restaurant style (here and abroad) with dark mahogany furniture, red accents and lots of gold paint. All things considered, a fine place to get a filling meal at a reasonable price if you want classic american style chinese food. Nothing objectionable but nothing spectacular either. If Chun Bo simply focused on the Chinese food, they would get 5 stars, but they, for some reason, have a sushi bar on site as well. Both myself and my wife have ordered from the sushi bar, and while it's never terrible, it's certainly not good, about the quality one would get from a supermarket sushi. The chinese food, on the other hand, is among the best in the area. I would liken it to a much less expensive Hunan Taste in Denville, which is high praise for anyone who knows that restaurant. Any time I want Chinese, I take the trip down 206 to go to Chun bo! I know a lot of people complain about the cheesy interior design, but I kind of like it. read more

Chun Bo is the best chinese in the area. I wish they delivered even tho it is a nice restaurant to go into. They also offer Sushi, which Ihave had many times. My only issue with the Sushi is that the chef cuts are very small. For the $$ I believe you should get more. Peking Duck on the chinese side was reallly dry. Beverages w/alcohol are too small too. Good middle of the road Chinese food as evidenced by the decent Saturday night crowd. Atmosphere is interesting, probably overdone but i didn't mind it. Portions are on the larger side but align with the pricing. Tables are a bit too close together - we had two loud talkers at adjacent tables, unfortunately saying nothing entertaining. Service was just ok. Kid was trying but they seemed understaffed. Bottom line, I'd go back. read more

I came here with my sister, and the food was tough and the service was terrible. At one point, my sister started choking on her food while several waiters were in the room. They looked over and noticed that she was choking but completely ignored her. One of the other customers ended up helping her, but the staff should have at least acknowledged that she needed help. This used to be the #1 Chinese restaurant in Newton. Not NOW!!! I had the most disgusting takeout last night. If it weren't for the 4 duck sauce packets I could NOT have finished the egg roll. Steamed dumplings (one of my favorites) were basically inedible. Gen Taos combo; Chicken was OK, Broccoli is Broccoli, Fried rice inedible. I threw out half the takeout. Obviously never going back. You should not go either. I understand the Covid thing is challenging but if you can't figure out how to serve good food then please close! I have come here often after a friend that is a picky eater recommended it. Every time it's great. The building is nice from the outside but lacks a big dining experience inside, needs some updating and when packed gets a little loud because of the tight quarters. Always ordered the combination plates so you get a great price and a small desert. The staff is friendly and the price is right. I've had most of the food and portions are good too. Highly recommend but go on a off time to get peace. No real complaints my best place to go when I wanted something great at a great price. read more

Driving past this place a number of times and seeing that it did attract a crowd, my husband and I decided to give this place a try. The decor is typical cheesy Chinese with very loud (and nerve wracking) music in the background. The place was empty when we went with only one other couple there so we were very surprised at the slow service. The waiter was not rude but was very indifferent towards us almost to the point that we felt like we were annoying him somehow. The food was meh. I ordered the spicy tuna roll as a starter. It smelled fishy--never a good sign for sushi as it means it wasn't all that fresh--and was rather bland. Definitely not spicy. The only thing that saved that roll was the wasabi I added in. My husband ordered wonton soup which was also bland and very watery. For our entries I ordered the General Tso's chicken, which (ironically) had a chili pepper next to it on the menu indicating it was spicy. It was the farthest thing from it. It had to be the blandest General Tso's I have ever had. My husband had the sesame beef which had a bit more flavor but not a lot. I will admit that I may be a bit of a Chinese food snob, but that comes from living in Bergen county for many years and having access to some really good stuff. However, even for Sussex county this was bad. While the quality of food they give you for the price is decent, the quality is not. We're not going here again. You are better off going to Tokyo Sushi in Sparta for sushi and Wok and Sushi in Franklin for Chinese. Prices are comparable to both. read more

When we first moved here 13 years ago Chun about was better, much better. Over the years I've returned unidentifiable "white meat" General Tso chicken and have had some other pretty bad food too. Chun Bo is definitely the best Chinese place in all of Sussex County. The Spareribs are the best I've ever eaten. They are no longer the most expensive Chinese place and you get the best quality and quality here than anywhere else. I did like other Chinese places just as much at 1 time,but that has changed. Chun Bo is still my favorite place and the most consistent! They also use REAL chicken,beef and pork! The meat never tastes like mystery meat and the rib bones are always square. We just moved to the area in Oct of 2015. Despite some of the crappy reviews we decided to try this place since its within walking distance of our home. Joy of joys the food was good. Fast forward six weeks later. We were craving Chun Bo and called for a pickup. It's Saturday December 5th @ 11am. They don't do lunch prices on the weekend. No big deal. I don't eat cooked veg. Ordered the exact same way six weeks ago. This time they want to charge for no veg. They didn't do that six weeks ago.... We didn't ask for extra meat, just no veg. "Sorry, it's not a lot of meat, there is an extra charge." Are you for real? I'm asking for LESS product in my meal and you are gonna charge me more? Then while trying to figure out what we want to do, they hang up on us. I'm the general manager of a restaurant near Morristown. If my customer service was as crappy, we'd go out of business. You just lost a customer who will probably be in this area for the next 25 years and who will make sure everyone knows there is probably better Chinese, who don't charge extra for no vegetables, and have good customer service, in the Newton/Sparta area. read more

This is our stand by Chinese place. Nothing here is going to blow you away but it's not garbage either. The sushi part is not bad but only a step above what you could get at Shoprite. The Restaurant is very dated it's like stepping back in time especially the drink menu. Zombie anyone? The servers are however prompt, attentive and friendly and the place is very clean. Take out is usually prompt but sometimes stingy with the basic extras like soy and duck sauce while other times they put small containers, chopsticks and teabags. I'm a Realtor in the area so I like to stay up to date on the best food around. Chunbo is my go-to Chinese food restaurant. I normally don't like to order sushi at Chinese restaurants but this place is an exception. Their sushi is so fresh and delicious that I always have a hard time deciding between sushi or Chinese. My husband and I go there 2-3 times a month. Their combo deals are a great value. It's about $12 for soup, egg roll, fried rice, main dish and dessert. I have yet to order the "Rusty Nail" off the drink menu even though every time I go my friends have dared me to try it! Good Chinese-style food for this area. Probably the best reasonably priced such place in Sussex County, including neighboring Pike County and Port Jervis NY. The lengthy menu has what you would usually expect at this kind of place, and the food is generally well-prepared, but it can vary from visit to visit. They also have a Japanese menu including sushi and sashimi. My personal recommendation is to stick with the Chinese menu. We eat here at least once a month. read more

Chun Bo is back and better than ever! After a period of mediocre service and food quality, the past few visits to Chun Bo demonstrated to me they're back to the quality food they were known for. Just got back from dinner with my wife and son. I went with the Ika Maru and Sashimi Deluxe. OUTSTANDING! They must have a new sushi chef. My son ordered a few of their specialty rolls and was equally impressed. The sashimi was brilliant! Beautifully presented, outstanding technique, and incredibly fresh.
