Best sandwich place I know. I crave their Philly cheesesteak regularly, and also love their toasted pastrami and their reuben. Their customer service is amazing, and I don't mind driving close to an hour for their sandwiches. This is one of our favorite places! The menus is huge for a little place this size, and that mean we can always get something we like whatever mood everybody's in. They even have a Coke freestyle machine so I can get all my favorite diet caffeine free drinks!! The cute little seating area outside is one of our favorite weekday lunch spots. First time here. I enjoyed the ingredients in the Vegetarian Stallion, but the quality of the so-called baquette was disappointing. Why is it hard to get great bread around here? A similar sandwich in San Francisco was on fantastic bread. I asked for my roll not toasted because I wasn't going to eat it until later, so I will try Chunks again but with a toasted roll. Friendly service and decent menu! The cheesesteak I tried was good but not great. It had a good ratio of onions+peppers to meat, but it was a little dry and plain. It definitely would have benefitted from more cheese. It was also surprisingly small. I would even prefer a Jersey Mikes cheesesteak to this. So this place used to be Robbie's but there's a new owner and new menu. All the sandwiches sounded good but I went with the make your own Turkey, Pepper Jack and Avocado made "chunks" way which is basically mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles. I opted for the garlic mayo which I felt was a little lackluster. I was hoping for more kick but fine just the same. Got in on a baguette but it is more like a sweet roll which is what I wanted. Found this place on a whim when looking for a specific sandwich shop nearby on Yelp. Chunk's came up as a recommendation, so I checked the menu and decided to take a chance! First off, I love that the place is named after the dog and I love the celebrity wall of fame with Chunk and the celebrity wall of shame of those who have never been! I also got a good laugh at the word play that's on the shirt! Got myself a pastrami sandwich and was really happy with my choice! The bread was warm and soft with a little bit of a crunch! The Pastrami was made to perfection. It wasn't overly salty, dry or overbearing with the Pastrami flavor. The sandwich is nice and Chunky ;) and worth every bite! I was full after half my sandwich, but decided to chow down and finish it off! I'm full, but not to the point where I'm in a coma or need to be undo my top button. Had a burger and fries at Robbies Sandwiches Wednesday. They were both excellent --large burger at least 1/3 pound and plenty of good size steak fries. Meat was slightly dry, but there was plenty of mayo, ketchup, etc. to make up for it. Very satisfying burger. They have so many other things on the menu , it's hard to decide. I was craving a sandwich today. I considered going to Subway for an Italian BMT. A sandwich I've loved since I was a young sandwich artist working for the Subway chain. But based on price considerations I decided to consider other options. Popped onto Yelp and found a place just down the street, independently owned and operated. On the way, I passed by a Togo's and immediately thought of how good a toasted sub is. Decided to stick with my decision and I headed the rest of the way to Chunk's. At Chunk's, I took one look at the menu and saw the word "Reuben." I love a good Reuben sandwich. Growing up in Los Angeles, I remember well family visits to the Hat for pastrami sandwiches. I was today years old when I learned that a Reuben is not a pastrami sandwich. The sandwich I got today is made with grilled pastrami, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, thousand island, and is situated on a gently toasted Rye bread. My first bites I was struck by a certain sweetness complimented with the savoriness of the grilled pastrami. A very pleasant and delicious flavor pairing. There were subtle hints of the rye and the sauerkraut offered a welcome tart compliment. The thousand island dressing was a delicious duo against the mellow taste is warm and melty Swiss cheese. The warm toasted Rye was the perfect backdrop for these flavors and I just felt an immense satisfaction at this simple but sumptuous meal. I ate heartily, got full, and had a delicious sandwich with potato chips and a Coke for a solid twenty bucks. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a quality sandwich at an affordable price. The staff was pleasant and kind. The service was fast and efficient. They have a remix Coca Cola machine and I got to enjoy a Vanilla Coke and then a Cherry Coke as well for a free refill. The chip offering was satisfactory but there were no kettle cooked varieties on offer. With such a delicious sandwich I always prefer a kettle cooked variety and when I have a pastrami sandwich or a Reuben, I like to have salt and vinegar which wasn't on offer. But to Chunk's credit, they know their craft, and they offered a simple bag of Lay's classics, which is arguably the best chip for any sandwich. I am completely satisfied with my meal, completely satisfied with the offerings, and delighted at my treatment while at the store. So, the pros of my visit; delicious sandwich, awesome soda machine, kind service, and a nice environment for a satisfying lunch. Cons; no kettle chip varieties, no bathroom, and nothing else. The sandwich was perfect. The soda machine pumps out any flavor you can think of. The chip offerings are satisfactory. I give Chunk's Sandwiches a solid five stars and encourage you to try it in place of your next Subway or Togo's visit. Their sandwiches are delicious. Their offerings are complete. Their vibe is a perfect spot for a delicious lunch. From talking with other customers and staff, I hear that their Tuna sandwich is also classically delicious. I think this places knows well the most exquisite principles of sandwich making. Prepare a delicious sandwich, and prepare it right. Three cheers for Chunk's! read more

Been here twice now, won't go again. They call their rolls baguette but just soft doughy white bread and skimpy on the produce.

I do think it's the worst sandwich I've ever paid for in Santa Cruz. Too soft/soggy bread. Excessive turkey (can remove..) and didn't include the oil & vinegar they offered me. I think it's mostly the bread that leaves room for major improvements. read more
