We've been going to Chunn since the beginning. Food has always been good and service has been attentive when it's mom running the show. The last two times we went there we've had a new server(younger female). Both times she's screwed up our order. The first time, she forgot an appetizer all together and I had to ask for the bowl of rice that was supposed to come with it. The second time, my wife's dish came out first. I could see my dish sitting in the window for at least five minutes before she decided to grab it and bring it to a table that wasn't ours. The table she brought it to had ordered the same dish literally 2 minutes before mine was put in the window. She brought it to him before his appetizer was even up. He had specifically asked for zero spice and no peppers. The dish I ordered was a spice level 3. Not the best screw up when someone specifically asks for zero spice. She then avoided our table entirely and offered no explanation or apology. The younger male then brought us our check. We've loved this spot as a solid go to because we live walking distance and it doesn't disappoint. Moving forward, we'll probably opt for something else in the neighborhood. I won't be going back as long as she's working there. Food is good and prices are fair. Thumbs down on the drop in service quality. read more

Mistakes were made. BYOB Thai place. They don't mention if they are BYOB on their website, so I called and they didn't answer. We dined in and ordered two appetizers and two dinners. We were served one appetizer we did order and one we did not. So I got up and had them correct that, since no service was coming around to ask. All three appetizers we wound up with were very good. Crispy shrimp that was fried-chicken-like, chicken satay with a peanut sauce that had a tang of curry in it, and a mystery rangoon that was well balanced and carefully crafted. Our main courses were American portion large, if not as attention grabbing. No one ever came back around so I tracked down (again) someone to pay. I was presented with the correct check, but charged incorrectly. That took some sorting out. It seemed like I was the first customer they have ever transacted with. They called their CC service provider by phone and had my charge reversed, and finally re-presented me with the correct tab. Not a highly skilled team running this business, but a chef that truly seems to be trying to impress. Then... there were the other guests. We got seated at a booth next to a first-date-train-wreck that loudly, sometimes hilariously spilled over into our experience. Without getting into visceral detail, it was just not an experience I would ever want to repeat, for their sake or ours. Sometimes you wind up judging a place in part by the people who dine there, and today that aspect was in full force. Try getting take out! read more

06/30/24 - Brand new family run Thai Restaurant in the former location of another Thai Restaurant (The name of the former restaurant is still there). The new owner said it will take 6 months to get the new permit to change the sign. The name of the restaurant is CHUNN THAI CUSINE. This is a small family restaurant w/all hands on deck. The 13yr old son was our server a very nice polite young man. I went here w/my next door neighbor for lunch. The dishes we ordered were both very good. One was the drunken noodles w/fat rice noodle, chicken, broccoli, onions, red & green peppers. The other dish was Thai basil w/ground chicken, red & green peppers. I really love this place! I come here all the time: it's my go-to Thai restaurant in Skokie. Everything I've tried here is good, the service is great, the workers are super friendly, and the place itself is nice and cozy. Noodles, curry, rice, stir fry, appetizers, iced [milk] teas, and coffee, I've tried it all and it's honestly all really good! my one note (not a complaint, just a note) is that the spicy jump from Mild to Medium is way too high for my spice intolerat palate . I wish there was a "less spicy" option that had just a little bit of spice, instead of having to choose between No Spice and Rather Spicy. anyways love this place, 10/10 read more

I suspect the location has something to do with the popularity of this place. We were received in a cold and uninviting manner for lunch on a Friday. We ordered two lunch combos between the two of us and mentioned we were going to be sharing it (so we could sample more items). When the food arrived and we requested serveware, we got eye rolling. The red curry was sweet and I'd dint enjoy it at all. The Pad Thai was extremely oily and lacking in much flavor or even the peanuts for crunch. read more

I've had the Chicken Pad Thai, Tom Yum Soup, and the Larb Chicken Salad. Not all Thai restaurants have Larb on the menu, but if your authentic, you do. This place is definitely authentic, and the super nice Owner/Chef knows how to balance ingredients and flavors, and the spice heat level is always spot on! Food: delicious! We enjoyed our Panang Curry, as well as the Drunken Noodle. The presentation and preparation were careful with both dishes. They can be ordered with tofu or mock duck, which made us happy. The spice levels hit the mark as well: we asked for medium and that's what we got. Service: very friendly and welcoming, nice! I am usually skeptical of most reviews here on Yelp, especially the 5-star ones, but this place is legit good! To put it in perspective, I was a fan of the previous establishment but not so much of the one before that. My litmus test for Thai places are Pad Kee Mao and Pad Thai, and I am usualy a bit skeptical of everyone's hotness scale. Both dishes were outstanding! They got the char on the noodles right, the flavors of each dish blended nicely. We asked for 'medium' spicy seeing that they had a 'Thai boy hot' on the top of the scale and the heat was just right! Will definitley come here again. I wish the new owners long lived sucess here- a good stable Thai place in the neghborhood is appreciated. read more

We come here often! Best thai spot in the area. My fave thai place closed down years ago in wicker park. And this spot reminds me so much of their great food. It's our kids current fave spot. This was by far some of the worst Thai food I've ever eaten. It was inedible. We ordered Cashew Chicken, which had a strange burnt wok mixed with vinegar flavor and the chicken was so spongy and greasy. Our chicken pad Thai was mushy. My Tom Yum soup was grossly oily. I've tried every single Thai restaurant around this neighborhood even until skokie and neither of them can make a good pad thai, its either overcooked, too salty, too sweet, too oily, etc.. list can go on! I came to Chunn today and oh boy! They make the PERFECT pad thai!!! Its was on point! and probably the most delicious I've ever had for a while! This is that place. The location has been a Thai eatery for as long as i can remember, of various success and quality. This place is the latest and the real deal! Char on the noodles, well regulated flavors and HEAT! I am a white boy, but when they offer 'thai boy spicy', you know it's gonna be hot. Medium is perfect so that you can taste the food and still enjoy it. Their menu is tight and conceise and everything that they make is GOOD. Tasteful and clean small interior, but the main attraction is the crispy duck, which you can have as a protein option for several dishes. Basil fried rice had pleasant heat at level 2. Great little family run business that replaces a previous Thai restaurant. I liked the previous one but this is even better. Our entres were delicious as were the sides. there was much more meat and vegetables than noodles which is not what I have experienced elsewhere. Ordered pickup. Good news is that it was ready quickly, within 15 minutes. I got the pad Thai with chicken, edamame and crab Rangoon. The pad Thai is solid, no complaints. The edamame tastes like it's grilled, so a little different from your traditional taste, but not bad. The crab Rangoon is meh. They don't use wontons like most places, it's some other thin kind of pastry that's crunchy and doesn't really have a taste. The filling is the usual imitation crab meat mixed with something that tastes like Cole slaw. I'd def get the pad Thai again, but will skip the crab Rangoon next time. read more
