Mistakes were made. BYOB Thai place. They don't mention if they are BYOB on their website, so I called and they didn't answer. We dined in and ordered two appetizers and two dinners. We were served one appetizer we did order and one we did not. So I got up and had them correct that, since no service was coming around to ask. All three appetizers we wound up with were very good. Crispy shrimp that was fried-chicken-like, chicken satay with a peanut sauce that had a tang of curry in it, and a mystery rangoon that was well balanced and carefully crafted. Our main courses were American portion large, if not as attention grabbing. No one ever came back around so I tracked down (again) someone to pay. I was presented with the correct check, but charged incorrectly. That took some sorting out. It seemed like I was the first customer they have ever transacted with. They called their CC service provider by phone and had my charge reversed, and finally re-presented me with the correct tab. Not a highly skilled team running this business, but a chef that truly seems to be trying to impress. Then... there were the other guests. We got seated at a booth next to a first-date-train-wreck that loudly, sometimes hilariously spilled over into our experience. Without getting into visceral detail, it was just not an experience I would ever want to repeat, for their sake or ours. Sometimes you wind up judging a place in part by the people who dine there, and today that aspect was in full force. Try getting take out!

06/30/24 - Brand new family run Thai Restaurant in the former location of another Thai Restaurant (The name of the former restaurant is still there). The new owner said it will take 6 months to get the new permit to change the sign. The name of the restaurant is CHUNN THAI CUSINE. This is a small family restaurant w/all hands on deck. The 13yr old son was our server a very nice polite young man. I went here w/my next door neighbor for lunch. The dishes we ordered were both very good. One was the drunken noodles w/fat rice noodle, chicken, broccoli, onions, red & green peppers. The other dish was Thai basil w/ground chicken, red & green peppers. I also ordered a bowl of Tom Kha soup. Please come and try the food of the new Thai restaurant located @ 6247 W Touhy in the place of the former Thai restaurant.

I really love this place! I come here all the time: it's my go-to Thai restaurant in Skokie. Everything I've tried here is good, the service is great, the workers are super friendly, and the place itself is nice and cozy. Noodles, curry, rice, stir fry, appetizers, iced [milk] teas, and coffee, I've tried it all and it's honestly all really good! my one note (not a complaint, just a note) is that the spicy jump from Mild to Medium is way too high for my spice intolerat palate . I wish there was a "less spicy" option that had just a little bit of spice, instead of having to choose between No Spice and Rather Spicy. anyways love this place, 10/10

Food: delicious! We enjoyed our Panang Curry, as well as the Drunken Noodle. The presentation and preparation were careful with both dishes. They can be ordered with tofu or mock duck, which made us happy. The spice levels hit the mark as well: we asked for medium and that's what we got. Service: very friendly and welcoming, nice! Home away from home! Ambiance: casual, but enjoyable and not pretentious Random note: it's directly across the street from the Seventh Wonder of the World (of Illinois), the Leaning Tower of Niles. Behold the wonder. We'll be back!

I've tried every single Thai restaurant around this neighborhood even until skokie and neither of them can make a good pad thai, its either overcooked, too salty, too sweet, too oily, etc.. list can go on! I came to Chunn today and oh boy! They make the PERFECT pad thai!!! Its was on point! and probably the most delicious I've ever had for a while! I am so happy that I finally found my new favorite place for pad thai! Can't wait to try more things on their menu and will definitely recommend to family and friends! The new space under the new management is really cute! And the owner/or staffs are very friendly! Try them out and thank me later..!! Thankyou so much for being around!

Indeed, this spot did not let me down! It is a small Thai restaurant in West Loop, with a large menu featuring monthly specials and quite a few dishes I rarely find in other Thai restaurants in U.S. For food, we ordered the following: 1. Khao Ka Moo: a stewed pork hock platter served with rice, pickled mustard greens, shitake mushrooms, sauce (similar to soy-sauce) and egg (which I opted out). It was my first time to have pork hock in a Thai restaurant. The meat was juicy and the skin was mouth-melting. Highly recommended. 2. JJ Tiger Cry: Basically grilled ribeye served with Thai style sides. The ribeye was cooked at ~medium well. I wish it could be a fattier cut and cooked for a shorter time, but my friend thought the temp. was perfect for her. It was served with a Thai sauce and cabbage+carrot slaw. 3. Green Curry Chicken: my sister's entree. The curry tasted refreshing and flavorful. It was also great that the dish came with both rice noodles and jasmine rice, so you can try both of them -- indeed, the rice noodles, after soaking it in the green curry, tasted heavenly! 4. Yum Hed. Grilled mushroom salad. There were shitake and king oyster mushroom. Served over a bed of fresh lettuce and a kind of spciy, sour sauce. Great as a side. 5. Guay Tiew Tom Tum Koong: Shrimp and rice noodles served in a generous bowl of Tom Yum Soup. It also had much veg. Unfortunately, I am allergic to some seafood so for safety I did not try this dish. Overall, the dishes are of medium sizes, but definitely enough for us. Service was friendly and quick. I may try more dishes the next time I visit Chicago.

The food was completely underwhelming, and when we shared our concerns with the staff, nothing was done to address them. The service was equally disappointing. Our server spent much of the time sitting on her phone while we waited for basic service like water refills, being asked about drinks, and receiving the drinks we ordered. We repeatedly had to get up and find someone just to receive attention. As for the food, the gyoza was bland and tasted like unseasoned pork. The lemongrass beef stew curry, which was highly recommended, arrived cold, had an odd texture, and lacked any real flavor. Most shocking of all were the drunken noodles. I've ordered them countless times over the years and always considered them among the best in Chicago. This time, I couldn't get past a single bite. Every dish was left unfinished. We didn't finish a single plate and didn't take any leftovers home--something that never happens for us. Between the poor service and incredibly disappointing food, this was an awful dining experience from start to finish. Unfortunately, after being a longtime customer, I won't be returning.

(Unfortunately, the sidewdalk is sloped, so the tables are sloped.) C and I order shumai, which in my experience, is served as an appetizer. Our order didn't arrive until after the main course was served. (Note to self: Next time order the main course after the appetizer has been served.) Cuisine: 4 stars - We ordered Basil Rice, to share. The flavor was different than what I have been served elsewhere. More sour than sweet. I think a better balance between sour and sweet would be better. Also, elsewhere, the rice and ground chicken are served tossed together. Here, the rice and chicken arrive on separate plates. It's difficult to mix sticky rice and chicken on a flat place. Nevertheless, the meal was completely acceptable; just a bit different. Service: 4 stars - The server was polite and friendly. Ambiance: 4 stars - We dined outside, but the interior looks nice. It's really nice to find a Thai restaurant with outdoor seating. What to know: It's BYOB (a plus) and does not accept card; only cash. For me, that's also a plus. Would I return? Yes.
