    Cheese bread

Food in this place is horrible, and it's not authentic Brazilian. They serve fried Spanish chips, and bread (which was stale) that comes with a plate of olives and vegetables in olive oil that is more characteristic of Portugal or Spain, and it's not something served in a Brazilian Churrascaria. The typical Brazilian Rodízio Steakhouse will welcome the guest with courtesy fresh cheese bread or regular Brazilian French-styled roll bread and butter, not olives and vegetables in olive oil, dry stale bread, and no butter. We ordered Brazilian cheese bread. They came late (we had to ask for the appetizer) so service was not good. Paid $13 for a mere eight (8) very small cheese bread. Simply ridiculous and overpriced. The cheese bread was really horrible. My companion had the sirloin and shrimp dish. The steak sirloin was very chewy and the shrimp texture was like rubber. Absolutely overcooked. For a plate costing almost $40 it was sautéed for too long and/or the meat served as a "sirloin" was not high quality beef. Two shrimps came. This was my companion's dish who was also having a hard time with the meat because amongst the sirloin and the shrimp she found another kind of meat which we didn't know whether it was pork or other kind of meat. Nobody knew what that meat was and we asked. I had the picanha dish, which came with white rice, black beans, sautéed collard greens with garlic, and a mix of onions, tomatoes, and vinegar. The picanha was borderline mediocre, but acceptable. Not very good picanha by any stretch of imagination, but the lesser mediocre dish this place had to offer. Farofa with bacon, onion, and garlic is a delicious treat that comes with the rice and beans in normal Brazilian Churrascaria. Not this one. The dish was incomplete and whoever knows Brazilian churrasco will know exactly what this means. The owner of this restaurant is not Brazilian but Portuguese, though the place advertises as a Brazilian steakhouse and doesn't really serve authentic Brazilian food. This detail would not matter, if this restaurant served great food. However, it doesn't, and the premise that this place is a Brazilian Churrascaria is false. Even the name of the restaurant is a joke: the word "Paladar" means taste in Brazilian Portuguese. Their food is overall not tasty and, in fact, the food is bad. Service in this place is awful. Appetizer came late, and it was not friendly or courteous. We complained about the chewy sirloin to the waitress who apologized, but did nothing else. She was not a good server because she was too entangled with a larger table and ignored my table (who had only two persons) thinking obviously only about the larger tip. The restaurant was also understaffed and the bus boys knew very little and did even less, so this semi-rude waitress was running around like a headless chicken and simply didn't care about our table. Management in this place doesn't exist. Ambiance is dark and at dinner it seems to be too formal lit with candles. Not the typical vibrant and colorful ambiance that an authentic Brazilian Steakhouse normally should have and in most cases go for. Ambiance is more like a Portuguese or Spanish tavern than a Brazilian Churrascaria. Rodízio of meats is almost $56 per person, and this place does not allow sharing. It is highly overpriced considering that the meat is subpar. I invite readers to compare with other Brazilian Steakhouses (except Fogo de Chão, which is also super expensive, but much better and truly Brazilian.) Specifically in areas where there is competition (such in Newark, NJ), Brazilian rodízio places would be around no more than $38 per person or $40 tops with very good quality meats and variety. The most Brazilian thing in this venue is a mosaic in the reception depicting the Christ Redeemer statue, and vicinities of the most famous city in Brazil: Rio. Bit of context: I am Brazilian from Rio, born and raised there, and I have been eating Brazilian food all my life. I know Brazilian Churrascaria (s). This place is not one of them. I observed that most of the clientele in this place is American (mid to high class) and have absolutely no clue about what exactly they are eating or paying for, flushing money down the toilet and being ripped off. Brazilians won't eat there twice. Summary of the review: 1. Food not authentic per se 2. Food overpriced and subpar 3. Service mediocre, understaffed, not friendly 4. Ambiance too formal for a Churrascaria that "pretends" to serve Brazilian food Avoid this place at all costs. This place is a rip off and there are way better authentic Brazilian steakhouses in NJ. Not coming back.

Came here with a group of friends and truly almost left after an hour of being seated and no service at all. Everyone got rodizio except for me since I don't eat much red meat. The quality and quantity of rodizio made up for the wait time but really just barely. It was about an hour before my food came out and even then it took a while for the meat to come out. It was almost ridiculous and we contemplated leaving quite a few times. The problem is that the waiters didn't even acknowledge us as we were staring just waiting for someone to come talk to us. They had signs all over the restaurant saying they were short staffed but honestly they weren't that busy. Everyone eventually left full, the meat was a good portion for the price. My chicken dish was just alright, tasted very salty. Just be prepared for a wait if you come dine here, other than that the place itself is very nice and has a huge parking lot.

Wow 66.00 dollars for this! Guess it will be my last time there. Portions are off for pricing extremely disappointing I rather drive 1 1/2 hours to newark than spend this amount of money again here. To think this was one of my favorite restaurants.

There was the option for Rodizio (endless table side meat with the buffet as well) or Boardwalk which is just the buffet. We chose to do the Rodizio all 3 of us. The buffet, was underwhelming. As a positive I will say each item we grabbed from the buffet was absolutely delicious, the correct temperature, and FRESH! They refill their boardwalk bar constantly. The buffet just didn't have many options. There were 2 tables basically side by side. One hot side where there was garlic broccoli, brown sugar carrots, mac and cheese, beans, rice, mash potatoes, and sweet potatoes, shrimp (which my wife adored) etc. In the middle a very amazing yucca stew. Then cold side had regular salad bar options, tomatoes, cheeses, lettuce, dressing, potato salad, pesto pasta, etc. Maybe if we went with the boardwalk option which was $39 something we would have been fully satisfied. However we did pay $70 each for the Rodizio. There were 13 meats, we were there for 2 hours and didn't try all the meats. The meats came pretty slowly with big breaks in between and some cuts of meat went right by us over and over. As well my husband and I requested medium rare, and consistently were offered well done or very well done meat. As well some of the meat was under seasoned in some cases. Some of the meat when it was actually medium rare was absolutely phenomenal, like the lamb with rosemary was all of our favorite. Again to some positives, the owner was very involved, walking around and asking everyone how they were, the entire staff was friendly. The tables were cute with candles in the middle, and the atmosphere was cozy. The place isn't very big so as more people fill in it gets a bit loud and hard to hear your gaucho say what meat they are offering, but they kindly repeated for me over and over despite my terrible hearing. The drinks seem to be amazing, we tried both sangrias white and red, and then got a pitcher we ended up taking most of home (yes they let you!). Which I thought was awesome, and the sangria is to die for! Like I said the meat was slow and inconsistent, but worse was our server, which I will not name because she was a teen and maybe this is her first job, but she consistently walked past us without checking in. Finally we flagged her down to beg for a water refill, and she refilled half the rooms water and stood talking in the kitchen for a bit, before getting us any. Now lastly to dessert. I got the liquor chocolate cake, it was delicious, but in my opinion quite small, though admittedly I'm a fat girl, so I like a good size dessert. My wife also got a dessert, the flan, she also complained it was small. They also only put like 3 strawberries on each which was disappointing because it enhanced the flavor a lot. All in all, it's a fun experience. 10/10 for kindness and vibes. 9/10 for the quality of the buffet. 7/10 for buffet variety 5 or less really, for actual service. Our bill was for three rodizios, two desserts, one beer, one glass white sangria, one glass red sangria, and a pitcher of white sangria. Mind you it was a Tuesday and they do sales of almost half price on sangria by the glass and pitcher. Our bill came out to about $308. I don't feel our experience met expectations. When we go out for anniversaries we drop $300 or more without thought and a good tip, (special occasions we go all out). So we considered if we liked this place coming back for our anniversary, but I wouldn't bother. I left a small tip for the lack of service, and would never go back. I still would recommend it to others if they have patience, maybe speak up more than I did about meat preference, and just want the experience. Go and see for yourself, but just keep in mind to be vocal about preferences, and ready to wait.

Unfortunately, the reality did not match the marketing. Instead of being offered these premium selections, we were repeatedly served chicken and lower-cost meats, which filled us up long before we had a chance to try many of the cuts prominently featured on the menu. To make matters worse, when one of the premium cuts finally came around, my wife became full and saved a portion to take home. We were then told by the manager that we could not take it to go because they consider themselves a "buffet-style restaurant." This was surprising, as nowhere during the ordering process was this clearly explained, nor is that the dining experience they promote. We paid $74 per person expecting to enjoy the meats advertised and reasonably assumed that any uneaten portion of food we had already been served could be taken home. The manager repeatedly stated that it was their policy and even acknowledged that the food would be thrown away rather than allowing us to take home what we had paid for. That was frustrating and wasteful. The service only added to the disappointment. Our waitress lacked personality, provided very little explanation of how the dining experience worked, and failed to mention the no-takeout policy before encouraging us to order the most expensive option on the menu. Had these policies and limitations been clearly communicated upfront, our expectations would have been very different. For the price charged, the experience felt misleading, the service was poor, and the value simply wasn't there. We will not be returning.
