I brought a friend who's visiting from NYC last night and she seriously could not stop raving about how crunchy it was on the outside, but soft and fluffy on the inside. We also lived in Los Angeles in the past, so she's had her share o' churros. Churro Co. genuinely loves their customers. They have live music from time to time and sometimes free beer. The folks at Churro Co. are super nice. Really friendly and kind, greeting us cheerfully even on a cold, late Saturday night. Prices for special churro desserts are $4.95, while I believe the "original" churros (just cinnamon sugar) are $3 or $3.50. Sauces are an extra 50 cents or so. There are picnic tables for seating outside and even a fire pit for chilly evenings! I wasn't super enthralled with any of the dessert flavor options - was hoping for their blueberry compote and earl grey flavor (but I think that was for the summer) - but I mean, I came for the churros! My bf and I got two, the seasonal Rio Suave (toasted coconut, strawberry jam, Nutella, sugar dustings) and the Campfire (graham sugar dustings, Mexican chocolate, two torched marshmallows on a stick). We were really ambitious....the churros themselves aren't large, maybe like six inches long (comes in 2), but the dollop of whipped cream on each dessert is A MOUNTAIN. Add in all the lava-like chocolate, Nutella, and warm jam - plus the sugar on the churros - and you have quite the indulgent desserts. The churros are exceptionally crispy on the outside. They're the crispiest I've ever had, like funnel cake level. But the inside is the surprise. The dough feels barely cooked, really soft and pliant, even gooey. Everything is cooked, but it's too soft and mushy inside for my taste. So besides the churro texture and the insane hills of whipped cream, I really like Churro Co.'s concept. I love food. I love Yelping about food. I love trying new food. That being said, the "Date Night" churro at Churro Co. is one of the best foods I have ever eaten...in my life...period. It is freaking amazing, and the Pura Vida is inching its way to #1 very soon. "Date Night" has caramel, a "popcorn sugar" which is literally finely ground popcorn with sugar, sprinkled on top of vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce and perfectly cooked churros. The combination of sweet and salty makes the taste buds tingle and I'd come back for seconds, thirds and fourths of this amazing creation. The Pura Vida is an Oreo-crumb crusted churro, with chocolate cheesecake dollops and chocolate mousse, with ice cream too. The menu is updated every now and then with new, inventive flavors. There was not a huge line, the churros came out fast, there's seating and the menu is big enough to offer a selection but not big enough that it's overwhelming. I came for the opening of ChurroCo at its new location by Thunderbird Coffee on Koenig (there still isn't a yelp page for this location yet). The line was surprisingly not too long, although the wait for the actual churro was about 30 minutes. I wasn't too surprised or bothered by the wait since it was their opening party. While waiting in line I could just smell the delicious fried dough and was super excited to order and eat these churros. I got the Campfire with a scoop of ice cream (a scoop of ice cream is an additional $1 but makes it 10x better). It was well worth the wait!! So delicious and satisfying! The churro was perfectly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside and I was happy with how easy it was to cut with my spork without making a huge mess. One order was the perfect size for me and I'm glad I didn't share one. The only thing I didn't like was the toasted marshmallow because it just tasted like burnt marshmallow. I havent had one in a long time, but I remember enjoying roasted marshmallows so I'm pretty sure this one was just burnt.
