a taco truck
Albert G.

This taco truck was located on the tennis court side of Crown State Beach parked along the street. There was one person waiting and no line so I decided what the heck. I've been in a Mexican mood lately coming and buying Mexican style food. The lady taking orders was very nice greeting us and generally kind. She was thorough in asking for our orders with any changes or additions such as the sauce. I ordered the 3 tacos for $11. My wife and kid ordered the asada quesadillas. They offer a green, red and chile sauce for your food. I opted not to have any but asked for pico de gallo instead. We also ordered Horchata, bottled water, and orange soda. They give you about a 12 minute wait for your order. They said the same wait for the person behind me. The tacos came out on corn tortillas and the quesadillas were flour tortillas. All were in small trays covered with aluminum foil and marked which order was which. They gave us the order with paper towels and forks included a bag. The drinks were hands carry. The Asada flavor was what one expects and the carnitas were fine also. There wasn't anything very outstanding about their offerings or their food.. I gave 3 stars for the food +1 star for customer service.

DELICIOUS carnitas tacos! Really great quality and fresh ingredients. Friendly service, I always enjoy my food from Tacos Picantes.

Mmm. Taco Tuesday. Two al pastor and one carne asada.

Delicious tacos and pupusas. Call ahead and it's ready when you arrive. Happy Tacos Picante has filled the food truck "hole" at the park/beach.

Tasty tacos but not enough food for an adequate lunch. Need more side offerings or something since the menu is very limited.

Went in with zero expectations and left planning my next visit…read more Stopped by Tacos Mi Rancho near Lake Merritt and honestly didn't know what to expect. From the outside, it looks like a straightforward taco truck, but wow was I surprised. I ordered the Carnitas Super Taco, which came loaded with lettuce, cheese, cilantro, onions, sour cream, and guacamole. Everything was fresh, well seasoned, and packed with flavor. My only complaint? You only get one taco per order because I definitely could've eaten another. The Kid ordered the Carne Asada Super Taco and before we even pulled away, she was asking for a second one. That's usually a pretty good sign. We also tried the horchata and jamaica, and both were delicious. The horchata was creamy and flavorful, while the jamaica was refreshing and not overly sweet. What surprised me most was how quickly they got the food out, especially considering how popular this spot seems to be. A few things to know: * Cash or Venmo only * Parking can be a challenge, but it's worth it * Keep an eye out for the new speed cameras in the area Their hours are another plus: Open daily, 9:30am- midnight Overall, this was one of those pleasant surprises that reminds you not to judge a place by appearances. Definitely looking forward to coming back.

Iconic taco truck near Lake Merritt. Perfect for late nights but perhaps better in memory than…read morereality. The food here is more like 3.5 stars -- but there are other great options around. The flavors are rich and laid on thick. We ordered a veggie burrito, a bean and cheese burrito with rice added, and three tacos (carne, pollo asado, and Cameron's). The carne melted in my mouth, since it was rich with rendered fat, and the tortillas were crisped around the outside to melt and seal the layer of cheese inside. Probably our best overall dish was the bean-cheese-rice burrito -- covered in their salsas and peppers -- since it balanced all the ingredients and textures. On the other hand, the veggie burrito brought the flavor, but between the crema, pico, guacamole, and cheese it ended up soggy halfway through and the tortilla threatened to come loose. The shrimp and chicken were forgettable, and the tortillas come crispy off the griddle but they are damp by the time you walk anywhere to sit. What captures the truck in a nutshell are the chips they serve, covered in a seasoning that replicates Doritos flavor. Sometimes that is exactly what you need. But you can get it elsewhere easily too.

Fish tacos were not battered - clean flavor and texture, shrimp tacos will be ordered again, tripas was nice and crispy. Also got the Friday special - 3 quesabirria tacos with consume for $10. Plus free chips and salsa. They have canned Coke Zero too. I'll definitely be back. Solid offerings all around, good flavor, good value, not busy, pretty easy street parking. Another yelper mentioned it wasn't overly salty and I 100% agree. Somehow this place has the perfect balance of flavors for everyone in the family - id take my heat adverse kids and older parents and myself. It doesn't seem like the place that's going scorched earth in any dish, i get the sense it's here to deliver some good flavors. I'm really impressed. Food came out hot and quick. The cashier was friendly. Store is clean with bright walls, decorative paper flags, and a few religious figures in the alcoves. This place is to the point in its food and function.

Everything I have had here was delicious, but I especially like the Carnitas, which are lean, sometimes a bit crispy, and have a rich, kinda beefy flavor (even though I assume they are not beef ). We were delighted with the huge portions and was super pleased with how delicious everything was! Birria and carnitas were fork tender, flavor was on point and not too salty. It was a perfect setting to order menudo and I would definitely come back to try it!

Once you get called up you put your receipt in the basket that the worker hands you and tell them what kind of meat you want in your tacos. Today I tried the asada, carnitas, Al pastor, and tripa. They all were delicious, my favorite was the tripa. Portions are good ($4.50/taco) and they have a variety of salsas, jalapeños, limes, etc in the seating area once you exit. I also got a hibiscus (Jamaica) agua fresca that was good. They do accept credit card but they'll charge a $1 fee so try to bring cash if you can. Tacos Oscar offers up slightly more upscale Tacos with nuanced ingredients and intense flavors. During my latest outing I went with the mushroom, barbacoa, and chile verde tacos. Each of my tacos was great, but the mushroom one stood out. The mushrooms were cooked perfectly and had a slight crunch which gave them an excellent texture. They were also incredibly well seasoned. My barbacoa and Chile verde tacos were also solid with some nice topping variation that helped mix up the flavors and texture. Oscar's service is good and straightforward. Place your order up front and either grab a table there or walk to their back patio. I LOVE the back area on a sunny day and would highly recommend it. Each taco here will run you about 5-6 bucks so don't be too suprised by the sticker shock. I would say 3-4 tacos is the ideal range depending on how hungry you are. Give them a try if you're ever in the Mosswood/Temescal area.
