I'm currently on a carnitas kick so on Friday, when I was sitting in my office, I started to fantasize about some good Mexican street food. Fortunately, Chuvi Duvi came to my rescue. The Mexican Food Truck was parked in a lot on Main Street right by the Zion's Bank on 1st South. I tend to feel that if native Mexicans are frequenting the truck, it'll probably be good. I ordered a taco and a burrito, both with the spicy pork. The owner was very friendly and has a great sense of humor. I wouldn't describe the "spicy pork" as spicy or as life changing but both my taco and my burrito were solid. The thing that was absolutely delicious and will bring me back time and time again, are the tortillas. The small soft corn tortilla that my taco came on was potentially the best I have ever had. It's my new obsession. The tortillas themselves are small but heavily loaded with meat. The burritos are the size of a small baby. Once again, loaded with goodies. Tomatoes could've been chopped a hair smaller, they were nearly quartered. Cilantro was fresh and made my food seem healthier somehow... If you see the truck, pull over! Or walk outside your office to check it out. The portions are good, the food delicious, the company fun and lively, and some of the salsas will burn the calories off for you. Oh, and just for a laugh/eyebrow raise: Their burritos are served in Paradise Bakery paper. Not sure if they buy the extras or what. I finally made it out to a street meat meetup this week, and the place the group had planned to go was nowhere to be found. That vendor's loss, my gain. We ended up across the street at Chuvi Duvi. The place was buzzing with people either about to order or having just ordered their lunch, so once we were gathered we got down to it. Having been a little under the weather I wasn't sure how much trouble my tummy could take. I opted for a couple of semi spicy tacos and a lemon-lime soda. The guy taking orders was more friendly than I imagined a street food vendor being, so thumbs up to you, Mr. Smiley. After a short wait, the tacos came out. As others have mentioned, these guys don't plop down a tortilla and then add a teaspoon of meat, they actually load up the meat. Big plus for that. The meat on my taco today was a little chewy, but it had a great flavor (not too spicy at all) and they disappeared fast. I wanted to also mention the Cubano which I saw a couple others order today. This thing was meaty, messy, and looked like something I could definitely sink my teeth into. If I see the Chuvi Duvi truck again and they've got it on the menu, I'm giving it a shot. read more

I went here for my first time and got my usual for trying a new taco cart. 1 Carne Asada, 1 Carnita, and 1 Al Pastor. When I got there, I could walk right up and order but there were quite a few people waiting around for their food. I was meeting up with a group of about 7 so that may have made for a rush but The food took about 10 minutes to come out which seems slow for a taco cart. The staff was really nice and helpful. The first thing you notice about the tacos is that they only cost $1 and they are full of meat. The 2nd thing you notice is the homemade tortillas. This is the only taco truck/cart that I have been to in SLC with homemade tortillas and that is an upgrade.The additions bar is pretty limited but I added in my cilantro/onions and some salsa. The carnita's was moist and had a good flavor but was a bit salty. .The Al Pastor was good but there are better ones with more flavor. The Carne Asada was probably the best with crispy edges and a strong beef flavor. All in all, it was a satisfying lunch for 3 dollars. I saw the burrito's and the tortas and they were huge. I might try that next time but the homemade tortillas really turned an OK taco into something quite good. For a buck, you can't go wrong. read more

09.15.10 first visit service: A very nice people running this joint. the wind blew my asada taco onto the ground and the guy was like, "don't worry, i make another one for you!" food: B+ decent. nothing to write home about. taco carne asada semi-tender beef with just enough fat to make it worth my $1. yep, a buck. makes me want to go back so i can say, 'yep, just a buck' again. overall: B+ i'd go back. and i'd load up on each kind of taco, because they're only a buck. yep, a buck. read more

Carnitas Burrito was the size of a baby lamb. Service was fast and as friendly as I'd like for a taco truck. The guy behind the window was pleasant. Unlike "Cafe Rio" type places that have Rice and beans" with a bit of pork, my burrito was stuffed full of pork with some rice and beans. This thing was so full , the homemade tortilla couldn't really close. Somehow I managed to eat it without making too big of a mess. What can I say, I am a champ. The hot sauce was really good. Had a nice amount of spice, but added good flavor too. I was a little weirded out by the fact that it comes in tied up sandwich bags. Looked like something you'd deal with if you were a home health nurse. Maybe a sauce mule swallowed it and brought it across the border? It sure was tasty though. Next time I will try tacos. Ahh, glorious tacos. I hit this place a couple of weeks ago with a group of Yelpers. It was a beautiful fall day, the kind that screams "street tacos!" (You know what I'm talking about, don't you? I'm not crazy, I swear!) Anyway, after carefully considering all of my delightfully cheap taco options, I went with barbacoa, chicken, and chorizo. Service was so friendly that I didn't mind waiting a bit for some fresh chorizo. Once the tacos arrived, I was in for a treat. The tortillas were obviously fresh and definitely some of the best I've had at a taco cart. That totally made the meal. The chicken was the stand out for me, but I loved the other two as well. The construction in the area does make this place kind of a bear to get to, but I expect I'll be back. This is definitely up there with my other favorite taco stands in the area. read more

I've tried the Pastor and Pollo tacos and they are both delicious. Two tacos are enough to fill you up without putting you in a "need a siesta" mode. The hot salsa could be hotter though. read more

Wow! What an amazing food stand! The service here is very friendly, the person working at the stand by Temple Square for general conference was very polite and treated everyone like family. The prices were very good, the service was quick, the quality and size was great! It is honestly one of the best chicken quesedialls I have had in a long time! I would be happy to return to this location again, and would highly recommend it! This is the 1st time I have ever eaten from a food truck and now see why so many people love it! read more

i got the burrito with stake ranchero. The flour tortilla was homemade and it was good. The fillings were good but nothing to write home about. The salsa was really, I liked it, had a smoky spicy kick that hit your mouth then slowly died off. The "steak" itself was fine but I think it would have been wayy better had it been grilled. It was kind of "pan-fried" on their griddle and it's not that it wasn't good, just that it was nothing really to write home about. Especially for the price. $5! Too much For $3.50 i can get a slightly better burrito, just as big on the corner of 200 south and state street. read more
