I've never been to a Chuy's but I'm sold. First of all, our waiter was the bomb. He was so friendly and attentive. I couldn't decide what drink so he made a suggestion and did his thing and it was spot on. Then he got a rainbow plate brought to us so we could taste all the sauces. there's not one bad sauce here but I mean bang bang is my fav hands down. I wish I could remember his/her name, but I didn't like their attitude towards me when I was trying to order telling me they didn't know what I was talking about, acting like I was stupid. My husband and daughter commented on it, made me feel foolish. Yes it's a bit noisy in there always but someone working for tips shouldn't talk down to their customers. My daughter was annoyed by it to; both of us were servers in our past. So, don't give snotty servers tips because they are like this because people tip them anyway. I did but he/she would've gotten more if they weren't a "jerk" to put it mildly. Kind of hurt my feelings to be talked down to. I go here all the time for work lunches. However, earlier this week I accidentally left my scarf behind. I called immediately and the hostess said that she had it and she would put it in their cabinet for me. I told her if would be a few days, and she said it would be there for me. Managers there need to retake their training program with their headquarters office. Was in there last night and had a manager repeatedly bother and embarrass my girlfriend about her service dog. "As Texas law and the ADA state, staff may NOT ask about the nature of the persons disability or about the qualifications of the service animal, require medical documentation, require a special identification card or training documentation for the animal, or ask that the animal demonstrate its ability to perform the work or task." My family used to order take out from Chuy's about twice a month. That won't happen again. A recent order never materialized after waiting for an hour and a half. Today I placed a call in order and was greeted at the restaurant by a rude person who sent me to a bench. After waiting for twice as long as I was told it would take, I cancelled the order and left. I understand its National Margarita Day but that does not mean that I should be ignored when asking simple questions about the wait. The hostess, in mid "conversation" if you can call it that since I got one word answers and no help, stopped even addressing me and started talking to another employee and acted like I didnt even exist. When we went to pick up it was not ready and the excuse was that there were other big parties scheduled at the same time. The wait was over 45 minutes. Causing issues for our party. Went here for lunch with my two friends from work. I've only ever been to the Chuys in KC, so I was super pumped on coming here. Our server was really nice and funny, she did a great job. I was in need of a serious cocktail, I ordered their blood orange margarita. It was so good and strong, but in a good way lol. I ended up ordering another but that one was strawberry. It was equally good, i did order the boom boom chicken enchiladas. Omg so goood!!! That is my favorite meal to get there, their rice and refried beans were delicious. This meal is spicy, so if spicy foods aren't your thing, then don't get this. But if you do like it spicy then this is a must. They do bring out chips and salsa which is so good and spicy. They have his spicy ranch sauce that you can get as well, but you have to ask for it. Overall I would definitely come back to this place. They were busy but not to the point where it took forever to get your meal. Our meal was delivered in a timely manner. Parking is nice there as well, so plenty of parking available. read more

Always solid if you're in the mood for tex-mex with a very austin vibe. Our waiter was super attentive to us despite the place being filled to the brim, constantly refilling our chips, drinks and checking up on us. Speaking of the chips, they're pretty good. Thin and crisp, especially when they're warm, you'll easily down a few baskets of them with the hot salsa they got. Even better is the creamy jalepeno dip, which is cool with an afterhint of kick at the same time. The food is your standard tex mex fare. I decided to get a chili rellano, which is 2 breaded peppers stuffed with your choice of filling. Wish I just stuck to the traditional cheese one, as I chose the sirloin and thought it would be cheese + meat, but ended up only meat. Not the worst thing that could happen, but doesn't really have the richness of chili rellano anymore either. Still it's good. It was also one of our pals birthdays and the waiter brought out some complimentary sopapias for us, so that was nice. Puffy fried dough drizzled with honey. Yum. I feel like I have been to all of the Chuy's in Austin, but somehow this one slipped past. I went to this one for a family birthday. We were trying to decide between this one and the one on Barton Springs. So glad we did this one because there was a lot more parking and you don't feel as squished on the inside. Also, *bonus* there is a cute outdoor patio at this location. When I arrived, our table was ready, but I think they waited fifteen minutes, which isn't bad for a Thursday night. We were put in a back corner, which was nice considering we were a table of seven. Our waitress was really nice and helpful. All of us were ordering alcoholic beverages and meals on separate tickets. Arriving 30 minutes early, got me some insights to the management of the restaurant. 1. An elderly couple went to their door, ten minutes before they officially open at 11:00. The staff let them in to sit down inside, until they got ready for customers. Seeing this, I also went in and went to their restroom. Three employees were finishing up and washed their hands, a very good sign. However, coming out I noticed that I did not see ANY of the female staff members in the restroom area. Hummmm... 2. Around 11:00, the hostess began to seat the early arrivals. I was second in line but was noticeably pushed to the back of the line, since I was a single customer. (The hostess remarked something about this, but I didn't catch her comment; I could have been -"We seat singles last?") Many customers arriving after I did.. pointed to me as being next... but all were seated before me. When the entrance was finally empty, other employees even came over to find out what was going on... but nothing happened, until I told one employee that I would be writing a review today. :-) 3. I was finally seated at the rear of the restaurant and was waited on by Zhauness, who was friendly and competent. (One general comment on great waiters/waitresses: If a customer's salsa bowl is empty, early on in their dining experience, it probably should be filled, as well as tea, chips etc without them being asked. A tall thin waiter with a beard... (they will know of whom I speak), did that at this very restaurant on an earlier trip. He is one of those great waiters. ) 4. I ordered one of the house specialties, a Steak Burrito. It was good and one of my favorites. 5. BUT you must ASK for the Jalapeño salsa. (Ranch with Jalapenos.) My first visit to Austin, Texas and I'm taken as a treat to local Mexican restaurant known as Chuy's On arrival I saw that the car park was packed which is a good sign as must mean good food and service right? Inside the staff and customers all looked happy and the atmosphere was welcoming. There was a 20min wait but that was fine and we went to the bar area to wait where you can have drinks and make your own taco basket up, When our time came we were taken to our table and our server (Nate) was dheerful and helpful in making suggestions on what to try. The food came out quickly and looked very good in fact it might have been too good as I cleaned my plate way to quick but it was worth it. Would I recommend this restaurant to visit hell yeah. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was that the area where you made your taco's had run out of the melted cheese and even though asked if wasn't forth coming but It didn't put me off from thinking I would like to return. read more

The menu has changed so much, the jalapeño ranch used to be so good and homemade, now it's just this weird cheap cafeteria ranch with some jalapeno added. First the service is usually always great, but it is their food that gets me rockin! I love their queso - especially the queso with all the stuff in it! And of course don't forget to request the jalapeno ranch for your chips... this is a must! I have a hard time deciding if I like the ranch or the queso better ... so I really just try not to stress out about and enjoy them both! For my main course I have tried a few things such as the carne guisada enchiladas ... OMG ... this probably a little different than most enchilada plates you normally get anywhere else and are worth a try. I love the meat and gravy on top of the enchiladas ... so good! Then there is my current obsession ... I get excited just thinking about how good it is. I wish I had it in front me right now .... The Elvis chicken is so good I am not sure how to express it in words. The chicken is battered and fried in Lays potato chips and then you pick which sauce you want on top of it. A while back a waiter one time let us in on a little secret and that was the combination of the Elvis chicken with the boom boom sauce .... Perfection! Anytime I order this, my waiter or waitress is always impressed that I know what is up! This is definitely how you do it! Then last but certainly not least ... SAVE ROOM FOR THE TRES LECHES CAKE!!! Ordered beef fajitas to go. First off, website said 18 minutes. Hubby arrived at minute 15. He waited an additional 13. Second, we live 6 minutes in traffic from there. The entire order was super cold. Thank you microwave. Last but not least of all the beef which Chuy's claims is marinated for 24 hours was tough and full of grissle. Tasted like smoke not like good beef fajita meat. The price wasn't low either. $30 for 2. If the meat had been good we would have been even more disappointed as it wasn't a portion that usually serves 2. By the time we added the 8 Oz queso, also not that good, the whole deal w small tip for the carhop was $43. No beverages or extra anything. We will use our old reliable standby Maudie's from now on. That time of year again folks; Hatch chili menu review! Late August thru mid September is my favorite time of the year for adding a little spice to your normal routine. I have to admit I haven't had my usual gusto seeking out all things Hatch; but I couldn't resist dropping by Chuy's to see what they would come up with this year. This years theme is a play on the Beatles Sgt Peppers Lonely Stomachs band. This location was decorated with rainbows, yellow submarines, and song references like Lucy in disguise with chili peppers. This years menu basically plays on Chuy's strengths utilizing regular staples with a hatch twist. The one stand out I noticed was the Tilapia. I think its the first non fried fish ever at Chuys. The entree arrived sporting a huge filet of fish surrounded by a menu described Salsa Roja. Roasted tomatoes, peppers, onions, and the kick of serranos was delicious. Toss in a few capers across the top with the requisite green chili rice and borrachos and you've got New Mexico crack on a plate for $10. The wife's tacos paired Chuy's beef fajita meat with corn tortillas, diced onion, cilantro, and green chili sauce. I think the lettuce garnish was the only bites of food left on both our plates. The kiddo downed his usual order of rice and beans and colored his menu. The rest of the limited time menu had a jack cheese and spinach queso, burrito, nachos, rellenos, and some enchilada options. Probably worth a return visit for the queso and if I had to guess I'd still get the fish. For good measure I'm throwin in a NOM NOM NOM; sorry Tom. Service and all that other stuff was fine. Came here on a busy friday night, we were quoted a wait for 35 minutes - but fear not, there is a great area by the bar that is first, come first serve. You can order drinks & appetizers while you wait & grab unlimited supply of chips & salsa! Get the Queso, it is absolutely delicious! Warm melted cheese with guac & ground beef with pico de galllo! AND Fajitas, you cannot go wrong with that. Large portions made to share! We ordered the combo (beef & chicken) that came with loads of fixings. Chicken was a little dry though, but overall it was well flavoured. On a side note, the drinks were tasted quite watered down.. margaritas were a no-go. Maybe beer instead? read more

To-go only review. Went here late-ish Wednesday night to pick up a Crispy Tacos order for a family member. At first I was frustrated, because waitstaff was standing around pretending to sweep, but mostly talking to one another and I needed to place an order. After interrupting, I was kindy directed to the bartender, Ryan, who took my order efficiently and courteously and offered me a glass of water while I waited. The wait was incredibly short, between 5 and 10 minutes from order to exit. It came in the ubiquitous Chuy's grocery bag that I remember so well from the days at the Chuy's on Richmond in Houston. I got to more than sample the food, because the tacos were the prime target of the family member who requested them, and they only took two. The refried beans and salad were about average. Strangely, though it had been a long time since I'd eaten any crispy taco, I also found the taco to be, well, average. But the tortilla chips were out of this world! The other two tacos were devoured by my family member and pronounced as more than adequate, so I guess I just wasn't in the mood. Love Chuy's. Great food, good customer service, and cool t-shirts. This location is lovely, and man does the parking lot ever fill up FAST. I've had to park near the Office Max (or whatever giant box retail outlet is nearest) and walk. The free queso bar can be very competitive. Use your elbows and get in there and get that queso!! The beans are vegan, so vegetarians and the like can eat here freely. When families bring their kids in, the staff gives all kids crayons to doodle with and push pops to keep their mouths full. This can work, on a good day. The outdoor seating is lovely, and the bar here a little small - but maybe that's because it fills up fast. Killer margaritas, of course! read more
