I enjoy going to Chuys. This location and the one on Barton Springs are my two favorites. I like this one because of the folk art in the back room, which happens to be by an artist in San Francisco named Ralfka Gonzalez. These pieces make me laugh. I cracked up the first time I saw "Los Zapatos Dudes". I knew right away he was from SF. Anyway, the food is good here, basically on par with the Barton Springs location. Comida Deluxe or Elvis Presley Memorial Combo. Go and get it. Don't forget to grab a mint or two on your way out the door. read more

There is no better place for Tex-Mex! My boyfriend and I eat at Chuy's several times a month. Usually there is a wait in the evenings, even on weekdays, but the bar and salsa bar are pretty quick to serve you. Once you are seated service is generally very fast and the staff is always willing to offer suggestions and substitution ideas. My boyfriend ALWAYS orders the chicken fajita burrito with boom-boom sauce inside and queso on top. My favorite items are the classic tex-mex enchiladas with queso as the sauce and their chicken fajita taco salad. Make sure you try the jalapeno ranch dip too! read more

I really wish I could give Chuy's more than 3 stars! The atmosphere is great, especially sitting outside (when it's not the temperature of the devils' house outside), in the evening when they turn the festive lights on. The food is good tex-mex- the Chuy's Special enchiladas with the blue corn tortillas are my fav. and the tres leches cake is sooooo moist and yummy! The reason I can't give it more stars is because of the service I have received EVERY time I come here. The waiters have gotten into an arguement in front of everyone sitting on the patio, they forget to bring napkins, more salsa, more water etc. It really is a shame that good service is hard to come by these days. Franchise or not, Chuy's has some of the best Tex Mex around. Their queso, fajitas and (most importantly) the shrimp rellanos are killer. The jalapeño ranch? It's good on everything. Even if you spill a little in your margarita. I stick to fajitas and rellanos, but have tasted some other dishes and wasn't very impressed, so I stick to what I know is amazing every visit. The staff at chuys is amazing and very friendly, I can say chuys is really busy. With every table the serve there chips which is very tasty, although the only serve the chips with salsa not with the jalapeño ranch. Frozen margaritas to go were excellent, large container but no cups with it. Moving so we had to find cups to use. We ordered a taco salad and 2 chicken fajita Mexi cob salads. All 3 looked the same. Not sure what they actually were, not Mexicob. Been getting those for years in San Antonio and Schertz locations. The salads are usually very uniform with each ingredient in a row on a bed of greens. That is not what we got at this location. The taco salad did not look like what we usually get either. All three were on very wilted old brown spotted lettuce. This is the second time I have ordered the Mexicob salads from this location when I have been in Austin. I won't order them again because both times it looks like they've used lettuce from the bottom of an old bag with fresh chopped ingredients on the top of it. We always ask for flour tortillas and never get them. I previously contacted the manager about the trashy greens in the salad. He offered for us to come by and get fresh ones. I don't live in Austin and I told him I didn't need a new one, I wanted him to fix the problem. Apparently that hadn't happened. It's been a couple of months since the first experience so I will seek a different salad location. read more

Really cool atmosphere! I unofficially have ADD, and I loved this place bc there was something new to look at everywhere I turned, you won't get bored here! The staff was super friendly and very on point. Drinks and chips were filled without even asking. Tons of seating in this place. I like how you can see through to the kitchen. We started with the queso, it was amaze. The salsa has a nice kick to it. I got the enchiladas and Mexican rice...it's a tex mex restaurant, don't expect authentic Mexican food! I like my grandma's style Mexican enchiladas the best, but these were tasty on a whole different level. Good for groups and families. Much better than the Barton Springs location! I had a horrible horrible experience @ the Barton Springs location, they really did -nothing- right, including the food. Decided to give it another try at a different location and I'm glad I did!! I've been to this location 5 or 6 times now and keep coming back! Let me get this out of the way now...Chuy's default "salsa" kinda sucks, I -HIGHLY- recommend getting their Jalapeño Ranch sauce and their "house" salsa. You have to ask for it specifically otherwise you're going to get their "default" sauce which isn't nearly as good. So far all of the dishes I've had there has been great, service has been great, overall 0 complaints about this place!! Not the best tex-mex in the world, but definitely good enough to keep in my tex-mex rotation. read more

Tex-Mex was a new concept for me being from the Northwest. Chuy's was a great first Tex Mex experience though! This place is decorated with Elvis memorabilia, tacky Mexican license plates, gum balls machines... walking into it I thought "Oh gosh what am I getting into!?" But my Chuychanga was delicious - cheesy with a little sour cream on the top but not overwhelming. I could still taste the integrity of the chicken and spices which I liked. I actually didn't even touch the beans that came with it but the rice was great too. The GUAC though.... ohhhh myyyyy goshhhh SO GOOD. I kept dipping my Chuychanga in it, and the Queso. I left feeling like a nap but instead went to Hey Cupcake. What a great night!! Our server Chris was young but on top of things. He kept refilling my Diet Coke, even when it was only half full. Just kept it coming... loved it. Thanks Chris! Then of course, to seal the deal, I bought one of their wacky Chuy shirts for my boss who is a total touristy shirt lover. They were only $12.95 when I'm sure they could've been charging $22.95. Great overall experience! I'll go back if/when I'm ever in Austin again. read more

Boom Boom time ... How can you go wrong with a name like Boom Boom sauce :) I always get the chicken enchilada with the Boom Boom sauce. Also when you get the tortilla chips instead of the same old salsa you can get a white sauce which is a Jalapeno ranch salsa. The chile rellanos are also excellent. I am a regular at this location. The food and the the service have been consistent. I usually order the combo fajitas for one with corn tortillas. They give you a ton of meat and the corn tortillas are extremely light and delicious! I want to swim in a bowl of their creamy jalapeno ranch...it is THAT good! Also, it is a great place to take kids. Cons: Parking can be difficult. They get pretty busy and the spaces are tightly packed in. read more

My friend was just in town and wanted an Austin staple. Well chuy's of course. Amazingly, no wait at 6 pm. The only reason why it's -1 star is the 20 minutes before we were even greeted by the server. My mouth was getting a little spicy with the chips and salsa....you think they would think to at least provide water when you get the chips/salsa. Luckily flava dave made up for his tardy introduction. My friend was going to order the divine enchiladas off the special hatch chile menu, but flava dave spoke right up and let him know that it wasn't really all that divine. We really appreciated the feedback and he recommended the flautas with serranos for that special kick. Worst experience in a long time. Sat at the bar at 11:45 for lunch. Bartender took my order and then started a conversation with a customer about what an easy job he had. His name is Charlie. After 25 minutes I asked the bar manager about my order. Well old easy job Charlie forgot to put my order in. He came over and said it would be 2 minutes. 15 minutes later and 45 minutes in total, I got up and walked out. They may want to hire some people who take their job more seriously. read more

Usually pretty busy when I've been, and we've had to wait in line for a free table each time. The wait is bearable, however, if you get a margarita to sip. The chip/salsa bar is fantastic... self-serve, all you can eat. Helps with the long wait.... However, the fajitas are scrumptious, the queso is as good as queso can be, and the service has been pretty attentive. My little family and I visited for a friend's b-day dinner. I ordered the Chuychanga and my husband ordered the Southwestern enchilada dinner. He said that his plate was pretty good. Mine was also decent, I didn't like that they were not able to remove the cilantro from my meal. We were a party of twelve, so our food took a long time to arrive. If I could eat this every day I would. They have the best jalapeno ranch. I always get the same thing...tex mex cheese enchiladas-light sauce. I'm not big on spicy, and to me the tex mex sauce has a light kick to it. The atmosphere is wonderful, and I think I've only left a handful of times without buying a shirt. I like Tex Mex. I like white meat chicken, no grease (I hate greasy mexican food - sorry), creative sauces (especially green chile based) and homeade totillas (both flour and corn). Service was ok, food was ok, but a couple of little things that may mean we won't go back. There's just too many other options around. My wife and I both ordered Chili Rellenos. They were good, but my wife found hers stil had membrane and seeds inside. The sauce on my enchilada was not what I ordered. Rice was ok, but since they make their own tortillas in house, I was dissapointed they didn't come with my meal. I guess I had to ask, ok, fair enough. The enchilada I had on my plate, was ok ...but nothing to write home about. One of the few places that said they have a cheese and onion enchiada. If there were onions IN it, I couldn't tell. There were a few small pieces of purple onion ON it, but not much. The chips we were served were cold, but not stale. Among the thinnest I have ever seen. Not my favorite. Salsa was good, but since they are known for their creamy Jalapeno, we were dissapointed that wasn't part of the pre-dinner appetizer package. We always enjoy a meal at Chuy's. Rarely do we go to a Chuy's other than the original location on Barton Springs, since we live very nearby, but since we were visiting friends who live close by to the Arbor Trails (William Cannon) location we decided to check it out. Food was good, consistent with other Chuy's. We noted that there was a pretty large, inviting-looking outdoor patio, but it was too cold to sit outside last night. Probably there's not quite as long a wait on a weekend night when the patio is available. Other reviewers have mentioned service problems. We had none. In fact, despite the fact that the restaurant was super busy, we had attentive, friendly and spot-on service from Cheryl. Hint - The wait for a table (Saturday night) was 45-50 minutes, so we hung out in the bar area and snagged a table after about 15 minutes. The bar area offers table service with drinks, appetizers, a la carte and the kids' menu available. That worked fine for us for dinner, and saved us a long wait.. It also was not as noisy as the Barton Springs location, and probably less noisy than the Arbor Trails' main dining area. If we go back to this location, I think we would opt to eat in the bar again. read more

Chuy's, thank you so much for your amazing customer service! During a busy Sunday night, I called in wanting only an 8oz queso to have as an appetizer before cooking dinner at home. The employee on the phone gave me a 10 minute wait time and it took a little over 30 minutes before the queso came out. Tex-mex at its finest! Visited in early September. We came for lunch, ate in the bar area. Bartender was a soccer fan, as were the guys I were with. So they all hit it off. Chips and salsa was good. We split a burrito which was more than enough. They have Sangria and Margaritas served from a slushee machine, don't let it fool you - they are good.
