Took a couple of clients to an old reliable haunt at a new location. New for me at least. I'm a north Lamar guy and don't venture south of the river often but this new location has proved very convenient lately. The green chile's are in season and I opted for the chile relleno plate. Epic and huge are the only words I can use to describe this dish. The other bonus was the warm green chile salsa. If you've never celebrated the green chile with Chuy's, stop what you're doing and run to the closest location. A note for my vegetarian friends. I have in-laws who live out of town and insist on eating here everytime they visit so we are here pretty often.... I love Mexican food, I could eat it everyday but there is nothing special here that I have tasted that has made me excited. I have been here many times and it is one of my Austin Favorites! The staff is always polite and on it. We are usually seated quickly and greeted with drinks soon after. I agree with some of the other reviews and am not a big fan of the salsa but I really enjoy the ranch dip they have. I also prefer to get the queso (they have awesome queso). I personally am a fan of the chicken fajitas. They are always cooked (and seasoned) the way I like and good portions as well. The rice can be hit or miss but I am satisfied the majority of the time. The beans, guac, and sides are great. I never seem to have enough cheese but they square that away no problem. The chicken and onions come out sizzling and its a nice, sliced piece with wonderful flavor. The enchiladas are not bad either, not as filling for me so when I get them I also have an appetizer. The atmosphere is loud but with the funky Austin decor, it works!! I love this place and recommend it for date night, family dinners, guests from out of town...you get the point I really give this place 4.6 stars overall but can't do that on yelp so 4 it is. This review is only for the southside suburbanite location next to Costco: This place consistently hires servers with a strong disdain for non-drinkers. I'm sure of it. I've gone here occasionally with groups, and as long as you're knocking back margaritas, they'll treat you just fine...or at least you won't care if they don't. I love their drinks, but when I go with just the kids and skip the alcohol, I get written off by the server immediately as not worth the trouble. This has happened on three different occasions. We went to Chuy's for lunch this past Saturday. End to end, it took 2 hours (a little long for lunch if you ask me). Our waiter was friendly, but it took him quite awhile to take our order, and when we did, he attempted to convince both of us to change our order to something else. While seated, we overheard servers replacing 3 other orders at nearby tables that were also prepared incorrectly. 5. You can tell this place employees a staff that truly cares about making your experience delightful, and the food, burrito with boom boom sauce covered in Chile con queso, truly is the perfect hangover food!! Went today for happy hour, and man did we have a great time. The free nacho buffet was heavenly, but the drink specials ($4 ritas and $2.75 beers) weren't half bad either. The service was wonderful; our bartender was very sweet and got us everything we requested, WITHOUT writing anything down. You go girl! Wow I remember why I don't eat here. They over salt the food and the service is prompt but, not friendly. She actually acted like she wish she was somewhere else. I don't think I ever saw her smile. There really wasn't much about their food I liked. You can cover mediocre food with jalapenos and chilies and some will be fooled, strip that away and you don't have much. Like the server said the spicy avocado sauce usually covers the fact that they use to much salt. I do have to commend the management I did make a comment to another server that was picking up my plate and asked about the food. When I commented on the salt she told the kitchen. Will I come TBD. We've been dining at Chuys for years (decades). Its been our go to Mexican restaurant. Our last visit however has us debating whether we ever return. The service was poor, our orders were totally screwed up and two out of three of us had sore stomachs and trouble sleeping that night. Customer service severely lacking. The hostesses didn't smile and weren't friendly. When we finally got seated and ordered, it took 45+ minutes to get our food. Our waitress had mediocre service skills; no smile, served dishes reaching across 3 people, acted put out when asked for extra napkins and dressing. Got 2 of our orders wrong. Margarita and food was just meh. All these things are small and inconsequential when considered individually, but the overall experience was awful. It seems like a wonderful place to take your kids because every time I go, the patio is booked with birthday parties and they don't have a seat for me. Please, take your kids to Chuys. I normally love this place. Went all the time! Friday night I stopped in for happy hour with a friend. I ordered a margarita with a sangria. The waiter asked, "With strawberry or lemon lime?" I said, "Sadly I am allergic to strawberry so lemon lime." As sangria and strawberry are both pink, I thought nothing of the pink swirl in my drink so I had a couple of sips. It was strawberry. I sent the drink back. The manager brought me some Benadryl. It was a little late as I broke out in hive, had trouble breathing and told the waiter I had to leave. The waiter was nice and said...I put on it that you were allergic to strawberries, the bartender messed up. Not only did they charge me for the first margarita but for a second I could not drink because I couldn't breath. Never been charged for a severe allergic reaction before. We have always loved Chuys... they have amaZing food and it's pretty kid friendly. I decided to write this review because of the service we had last time we were there... we went to Chuys with our toddler and our friends that had a 7 month old baby... which pretty much means you eat and leave asap before one of the kids melts down! I do love me some Chuy's. The food is always delicious but sometimes the wait for a table during peak times can be nearly unbearable. The hosts are attentive and welcoming and the bartenders have never left me waiting. For the most part the wait staff has been dead on with my order, but every now and then there will be a slip up but I'll eat it just the same. My favorite is #4 Chile relleno and an enchilada. Every time we come here we get great service from friendly, enthusiastic staff. I don't know where they get their servers, but they are awesome. Food is great (get the Elvis combo!) and almost too much for one person. My only complaint is the crowd.
