My husband and I love the Chuy's in SW Austin. We have come to always expect a wait in the evening. Wait time is just too long for 5 stars! Love their margaritas! Prices are very reasonable! Energetic and fun atmosphere. We have eaten there more times than I can count and we have ALWAYS have really great servers and I cannot honestly say that about any other restaurant in Austin after living here for over 20 years. Much better than Hula Hut. I'm basing this on atmosphere and food. Food would probably get a 4.5 because I enjoyed the food, and I'm usually not one for chain fare. This joint makes a good attempt at unique Tex-Mex, but it falls a tad sort in originality. I did enjoy my Enchilada though. I had the Thursday daily special: roasted chicken enchiladas with green chile avocado sauce. The chicken was really tender and the tortilla was pretty soft. Though the green chile avocado sauce was pretty much sour cream with some chiles mixed in, it was pretty tasty. The diced avocado on top gave it a nice fresh touch. Overall, reliable, hearty food. I just didn't get a good feel from the environment as the servers were very lazy and boring at the dead time of 4PM. read more

It's sad to say being an austinte but this was actually my first time going Chuys, not sure what took me so long to check it out but I finally got around to it, I got there for the week day happy hour and I was pleasantly surprised by the free chips and meat queso bar, I sat at the bar and the bar tender Bo was on point, he was friendly, attentive, and stayed on top of our refills and other needs, he also recommended a plate for my dad to try and my dad said it was very good. The only reason I did not give Chuy's 5 stars is because I personally feel the drinks were a little pricey in general and also pricey for happy hour prices, they did taste good though. I will return to Chuys and I did not look at the drink specials list I just had the large house margaritas but I'm sure the is probably a different drink I could get that would not be so pricey. read more

Victim of their success! Typical that another great Austin venue has gone to shit, catering to tourists. We went to the South Mopac location, to avoid ACL crowds and hordes of tourists. Went tonight seeking great food on my birthday. First, My wife's food was wrong, she ordered a chili relleno with chicken. It arrived with no chicken. Next, they brought out a replacement dish in about 2-3 minutes. We were impressed. However it was cold. Reluctantly, we asked for another, the third try. My wife finally received her entre after the rest of us were done. Next, I went to restroom. Since the meal had drug on by this point, my wife took our kids to see the tortillas being made. Anticipating a busy turn and burn situation with our table, my wife told our waiter, Joel, not to clear our table. Frustratingly, they cleared our entire table. I came back from the rest room 3-5 minutes later, and found three new customers at my table. I hadn't finished my meal. Worse, it was my birthday, and we had planned on desert. And my wife and kids had planned on giving gifts and birthday cards to me after we ate. When I finally located my wife outside, the waiter Joel was at least trying to offer a meal to go. Why the manager never came out, is beyond me. At that point, I decided to leave and go home, refusing their food, which would have been cold and hard by the time we arrived home. read more

A good friend brought me here because I was visiting. The service is friendly and the speed is average...The drinks are good size, the food is delicious. Had for the first time something called Tres Leches for dessert..First time ever having it..the portion they gave me was huge...it could of fed the whole table and more...it is the type of dessert even if your full you have to finish it...yum yum....to bad they dont have something like this back home. read more

I love chuy's!!! Creamy jalepeño is a must. I have experimented with a lot of the menu but my top favorites are the appetizer plate and the veggie enchiladas. not a vegetarian but they are so good!! This Chuy's location is just a stone's throw from my house so that already puts it on the a-ok list. The margaritas are super yummy. The food, while not real authentic Tex Mex (a la Serranos or Nuevo Leon) but it hits the spot. The crispy tacos are good, the queso is tasty, but I think what really gets my vote is they make homemade tortillas onsite here. I think that in of itself makes it tops on my list. Every Mexican restaurant should make their own tortillas. I could literally just eat the rice, refried beans, and fresh tortillas as a meal. read more

Thank you Yelp, for allowing me to write about a specific Chuy's location 1/4 mile from my place, I'll tell you now to make the extra effort and drive to Barton Springs. The service is "ok" meaning not quite up to Chuy's standards and the waiter had full of attitude. My wife ordered regular strawberry daiquiri which was her all time favorite drink. It was too mild and taste like a water with few drops of strawberry when I said something to waiter and he said may be we are out off strawberries. In main course my wife ordered Enchilada, Taco, Chalupa Combo #6 item from menu and we specially told him to get everything chicken no beef and he get all beef tacos then we replace those tacos but he again put BEEF sauce on it. he did not come to refill water, Chips and Salsa after all of this incident he did not said "sorry for the confusion etc.". I paid all my bill BUT the story not end here after all of that when i talked to manager what i felt he was DRUNKED on duty It's our all time favorite restaurant, I hope they will improve their service as well as management !!! read more

The food is good. Predictable but good. The wait can be really long, 45 minutes plus. The other night, we finally got in without a wait. Perhaps the newness is wearing off? Our service was super. I love Chuys especially their Deluxe Enchilada platter. I would like to be buried a vat of that sauce. This has to be my favorite location for one reasone and one reason only-Happy Hour! They serve queso and one night we made the mistake of stuffing ourselves on the chips and queso and margarita before we got our actual order. We usually visit Chuys and have a great experience, but tonight Chuys just let us down! We arrived and had a rather short wait, which was unexpected. However, what they didn't tell us is that we'd be seated in an area of the restaurant where the AC wasn't working well. Thinking we could deal with it, we hung in there long enough to order food, but after a few minutes of sitting in what was probably at least an 80 degree room, my husband started to feel sick. We quickly made the decision to get our food to go and take it home. Honestly, if the AC isn't working, why would you seat people in that area?! I know you want to make money, but really?! We even saw another couple ask to be reseated because they felt it was too hot as well. So as a customer is the expectation that I come in and walk around to see if the AC is running or is this something that the restaurant should self monitor? read more

This update concerns service, not food quality. I came here for a birthday get together with my friends. I had someone from my party show up early since it was a Saturday night to get on the list. We got on the list, and they ended up giving us the wrong pager so the pager went off and my whole party got up to be sat and they were like, "Oh, just kidding your table's not really ready." I was hoping that it was just a minor mishap. We had a larger party (party of 9) and the service was pretty bad. The kitchen can't seem to make all the entrees go out at once, so one of my friend's received her meal A FULL 10 MINUTES before the rest of the entrees trickled out. Our waitress had a helper server named Ryan. One of my other friend's literally got her taco salad ripped out from under her. She clearly wasn't finished eating and he rudely grabbed her plate saying, "I'll get this out of the way for you." Before you do that jackass you ask if they are done! Then, I needed a to go box for my meal and Ryan literally dropped the to go box from above my head nearly onto my lap. I've been a Chuy's devotee for over a decade now and this was by far the WORST service I've ever received here. read more

pretty decent. I'm used to going to the barton springs location but this new one is closer to home. It's a good location but i don't think they serve the entire menu at this one, the wait staff aren't as responsive, and it somewhat caters to a different crowd. Shame on you, Chuy's! Met here with some friends for happy hour today. Was looking forward to the Queso Car. Probably the only reason I'd go here over somewhere else. (Let's face it, their drinks are only average.) Waitress told us they would only have chips and salsa today,"but even my manager can't explain why." Ok, fine, we will order a $7 bowl of queso. First good sign, they were super busy, which was also an emergency alert since I had in tow one four year old and one three year old. I was terrified of what was to come! We hung out outside and the kids ran around and jumped off rocks and benches, the wait was shorter than predicted (yay!) and we were seated just as the kids had started to come unglued. Immediately we were supplied with chips and salsa, my brother ordered the creamy jalapeno sauce, which was splendid. The chips were thin and crispy and we ate them up, in retrospect I know I ate too much! Then our entrees came. I ordered the chicka chicka boom boom enchiladas, which were creamy and spicy with lots of wonderful stretchy cheese. I ate almost the entire plate and certainly regretted it later, however at the time it seemed like such a great idea since every bite was just so good. My husband didn't like his burrito, he doesn't like spicy and so he doesn't count. I wish I would've asked the server to recommend the LEAST spicy item on the menu and had him order that. Service was fast, food was a solid "good" and I will definitely be back during my next visit and then we will sit outside. I'm astonished by the attention and service I got on the evening of 1/30. Loryn was running so many orders and greeted each new patron with a smile and a "be right with you" and she actually was right with them. I'm not sure how the hell she remembered everything but no one waited for a drink or their food. The barback was excellent as well, engaging and helping loryn when needed. He's also extremely funny. I'm saddened to be writing this review as Chuy's, and this location in particular, has been a favorite of mine. I've been a regular since they opened here. But today was the last straw. The service was so lousy. We were seated for 7 minutes before a waiter came by. And all he did was acknowledge that we weren't served. He kept walking toward the back and we watched as he whispered to another waiter and both turned to our table and laughed. We left -but not before noticing 6 waiters hanging out at the front desk doing nothing. My last visit, 2 weeks ago, had me sending fajitas back (twice) because the meat was gray - and tasteless. I'm not sure what's going on at William-Cannon, but I won't be back for a good long time - if ever. read more

Always delightful fare, with an almost perceptible touch of upscale Tex Mex. Our family enjoys the outdoor seating, and the fact that they will cook you whatever you want. It seems like this place has really gone downhill since opening. It used to be really good but now I can't order a chicken dish without biting into a nasty piece of gristle at some point. The tortillas get soggy and fall apart if you do so much as look at them the wrong way. The veggie enchiladas are good, but for some reason they do not offer veggie fajitas. BOO! Why do I love this place so much? Piping hot chicka boom enchiladas, ultra fresh salsa, mexican martinis and the whole loud, overwhelming "chuyness" of it all. And by the way, the free nachos during happy hour are an excellent budget stretcher. You can't make reservations but it doesn't really matter unless you're in a hurry because you can almost always find a place to sit at the bar. read more

This was my first Tex Mex experience. I didn't really know what I was in for, and I must say that the amazing food made available in California may impact my overall opinion. It was not the best food I've had. It wasn't bad either. I was a huge fan of the ranch dip they gave us for the bottomless chips. The mild salsa was not really mild, so take caution. I ordered the Chicken Flautas. They were good, but didn't come with enough additives (guacamole, pico de gallo, and sour cream). It was very busy and I liked the eclectic decor and atmosphere. Love chuy's! Always have and always will. Baja Shrimp tacos are always my go to and the vegetable enchiladas as a back up. Queso is awesome and I love the tres leches cake!! Margaritas and the sangria is always delicious. If you get hot easily stay away from the very back room. Lots of lights. Super bright and gets warm fast! read more

This place is awesome!!! The service was amazing. The cheese dip is THE BEST EVER! The chips and salsa are awesome too. I ordered the Elvis Special...FYI it's not a burrito. I thought it was some kind of a burrito so just be aware of that. I really didn't like the Elvis Special, but maybe the other menu items are just as good as the queso.
