Went to Chueys ( MalloryLane, Tn)on my date (with hubby) as a treat. The waiter was terrific. The food arrived and look good. Unfortunately as I began to eat my meal I had something in my mouth that wasn't edible and I was unable to chew it. So I removed it from my mouth and at first I thought maybe it's the skin of an avocado. Put on my glasses and what it was was a strip of cardboard!! Cardboard, people. Not the fanciest texmex I have ever had, but the corn tortillas were very good for corn tortillas. I was worried the whole time that they were wheat because the texture was so good, but I didn't get sick, so I'm pretty sure they were indeed gluten free. I tried the Stacked Enchiladas with rice and beans. It was very good but I like the Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom and Fish Tacos better. Whenever it comes to eating at Chuy's, I'm usually on the fence. It's always at least ok, but it's not the best Mexican chain that we have here in town. The restaurants are always really loud and colorful, with goofy pictures on the wall (This one has dogs...who doesn't love dogs?) and I always see lots of families here. I wouldn't call it the most authentic of Mexican food, but I have a pretty big love for all Mexican real or "fake" as it may be. It's definitely a step up from Taco Bell, and as long as you stick to the simpler dishes, you'll probably be pretty satisfied. Everyone I know comes to Chuy's not for the food, but for the margaritas. I'm not as a huge fan of tequila, but when I last ordered one, it was pretty good. Just as you'd imagine a margarita from a Tex-Mex chain to taste, although you can order one in pretty much any flavor you'd imagine. Entree-wise I now always stick to the veggie enchiladas, which have spinach, zucchini, peppers and other veggies rolled up in blue corn tortillas. This place has bad reviews for a reason. 2 to 3 weeks ago I came in with a girlfriend and we witnessed a server get fired while other employees laughed at her and talked trash as all of this drama was going on. No one informed customers what situation was going on except all we could hear was screaming and see a lot of angry people through the see-through glass. We were familiar with Chuy's from Austin and were excited to have one close. We have been there a handful of times and only one time was good. (Yes I'm a sucker for punishment and kept going back) My biggest complaint is cold food. We had ordered a chuychanga (basically a chimichanga) and it was so cold on the inside it felt like it had come out of the fridge...well, our server confirmed it had indeed come out of a fridge as it was "pre-made" and then fried when ordered. It was disappointing to learn that. On the last visit, my beans and rice were so cold I don't even think they bothered to warm them up before putting them on the plate. It is fun to watch them make the tortillas (possibly the only thing made fresh???) and the atmosphere reminds us of home. I think my visits have been disappointing enough to not go back. read more

They have cut their menu and aren't serving the items we usually order AND quite importantly they are reckless with the health of their customers. I ordered grilled shrimp Baja tacos. The first one tasted very strange. It was not well lit in there so I couldn't see the details of my food. I had to turn on the flashlight of my phone to see that the tortilla on my second taco had thick green mold on it. I went and got my waiter and in seconds the manager arrived. He argued with me and said it was that color because of the cabbage. He refused to admit fault saying we make the tortillas fresh everyday. Well not these ones pal. I left and took the taco with me so that I could look at it under better light. Sure enough this was the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. I can't believe I ate one of those disgusting things. If I could do 2.5 stars I would. Deferred to less just due to my disappointment. Was there tonight (8.23.20) and food was alright. I'm never overly impressed with their food in comparison with other more local (less chain) favorites. While sitting, we had a straight look right into the kitchen. I counted four people constantly in that area not wearing masks and three people in that area halfway wearing masks (mouth only). When we left the lady at the hostess stand was also half wearing her mask. Our server seemed slightly annoyed we were there and had questions about the menu. I had the bean and cheese burrito with ranchero sauce which was really good and HUGE. It was very crowded when we went on a Thursday night around 6:15. I guess Happy Hour is a popular time. It was a busy Saturday night and I had called and spoken to people about how to handle a party of 18.; however since hey do not take reservations it was a bit tricky. Was a bit skeptical when we arrived because the seating host was a young long haired guy that seemed to want to be ANYWHERE but there. The place was PACKED and there was a 45 minute wait. There were places on the covered patio with no wait so we decided to eat outside. The margaritas on the rocks were OUTSTANDING!!! The food was EXCELLENT. Our waiter was great. The only problem was once we got our food, the flies were EVERYWHERE. HUNDREDS of them!! This is of No fault of the restaurant obviously, but I think it would be wise to screen in the outdoor area. Thought I'd reviewed this in the past, but I don't see it now. Hadn't eaten here in quite awhile, until last night. Have usually had good dining experiences here, with a variety of entrees. Last night was different. There used to be a valet, not that I'd ever used it before, but I would have last night! It was like ten minutes of circling the restaurant before we were able to park! About 5-10 other cars circling (some would give up) as well. My husband had gone in while I attempted to park, so he managed to snag a table that I suppose was technically in the bar area. That whole room is normally filled with tables, but not this time. For some reason the floor was wide open and empty...??? So, that was odd, as people stood around needing a table. Service started off strong, but fairly quickly went downhill. The chips came quickly, plus our first round of drinks (ONLY round, as she then deserted us). The chips are the saving grace of this place. We all LOVE those thin, crispy chips, the seasoning on them, and the ranch, guacamole and salsa! In warmer months, the patio is a big draw as well. But, it was closed last night. Why not invest in some outdoor heaters? Lots of restaurants do that for this time of year. It's not freezing yet. Maybe they think it's good to have cars circling the lot, and people standing around waiting rather than seated and spending money? It's not. All three of our meals were lukewarm. Mine was cheese enchiladas. Let me tell you, I make enchiladas, and those weren't enchiladas. She asked what type of sauce I wanted on top...I asked for it on the side rather than On top since I wasn't sure about the spice level. So, what I got was 2 dry tortillas rolled around some cheese and nuked...cheese hardened where it oozed out of the ends. not even a lot of cheese...and lukewarm, so the cheese was just a glob. less than desirable. My sangria was tasty, but no actual fruit in it. Also, not for sure there was any alcohol in it, and I think it was pretty small. But, maybe that's just because she never came around to get me another one, and she didn't give us water. So, obviously this dining experience wasn't even a 3, but WE LOVE THE CHIPS and for that alone I give it three stars. read more

The jalapeño ranch dressing is still amazing, but ordered a taco salad tonight and was surprised when it came to the table in a regular bowl with tortilla strips on top. Now, it has been a while since I have been there, but they used to be served in a fried tortilla bowl that was amazing! Now tortilla strips......come on! I mean the taco salad at Wendy's and many other fast food restaurants has those! I will give 3 stars because of the dressing and the steak in my salad still had good flavor, but even it had more gristle than it should!
