This is the best mexican restaurant by far in northeast Florida! They have something like 9 different types of sauces going from very mild to very spicy, so everyone can customize their preferred dish just the way they like it. Their salsa and their creamy jalepeno is made fresh and delicious. Their chips are made onsite, as are their tortillas. Their tortillas in their enchiladas are sooo good. The ambiance is great. We ordered a group door dash order from Chuys. This was my first time trying their food and I thought it was pretty decent! I would probably go give the restaurant itself a try based on this experience. I got a Cobb salad. Keeping it simple. A minor complaint - the avocado was very minimal. I had to search DEEP in there to find a couple of cubes. That was the main reason I got the cobb salad so I was a little sad. Food in general is decent. Fajita chicken in my tacos lacked any seasoning. The chips were a bit oily but the additional (cucumber / ranch??) dip was great. Our waitress was excellent and person cleaning tables appeared quick and efficient. The hostess was another matter. The dining room was noisy and crowded. We both have hearing issues. We asked to be seated in the other room. She looked annoyed and told us no. Five minutes later she seated other parties in the other room even with open tables in our room now. Well, when you go to Best Buy so often, how can I not visit the great restaurants in walking distance from this electronics/appliance outlet? So far, Keke's down, Mission BBQ down, and today, it was time to attack the Tex-Mex world at Chuy's! Things that immediately stood out to me were the large outdoor seating area and how large and colorful it was on the interior of the restaurant. Though no one ate outside due to the hot weather, inside was a different story. Busy got busier during our visit. But so much was good during the experience. Vanessa was one of the most courteous and caring servers I've ever seen. She did a great job with us and all the customers served with her patience, high level of knowledge of the meals Chuy's offers (she got everything spot on with our questions and meal choices), along with frequent visits to our table to see how we were doing. An enthusiastic, caring server can always enhance a restaurant experience to levels that make other aspects of a shop visit almost disappear. But not for me! I loved the chile relleno from a ma and pa shop I frequented when lived in San Diego. I was thrilled to give it another try here at Chuy's! Vanessa said it's made more Texas style and it was different in appearance, but at the same time, it was far better than the San Diego version! It was fried perfectly with a chicken filling inside and a nice sauce below it. It was a medium heat level but never overbearing - and it was HUGE! The whole meal was so large I had to take half of it home. It also came with a healthy offering of Mexican rice, refried beans and a chicken and sauce-filled enchilada. Wow! We also had the seasoned beef burrito, which was basic and filled with ground beef, refried beans and cheese. This meal was not near as complex as the chile relleno combo. Again, this restaurant is large and is able to accommodate a lot of people both inside and outside the restaurant. It's clear from the tables, chairs and booths that it's been around for a good number of years. I do think Chuy's should consider renovating and upgrading them some time in the future, without pulling a Cracker Barrel job! Stay yourself in the process! But Overall, I thought about leaving a four star review on this one over the appearance, but because the service and food was so overwhelmingly good, I'm going with five stars on this review! Our server was great but the food wasn't. I ordered the green chile enchilada and it was 16 dollars for unseasoned chicken, clumped melted cheese in bland tortillas, and a drizzle of sauce on top w (Side of rice and beans). You can literally dissect the enchilada and see basket ingredients. The better part of the experience was the service and the chips/salsa. The best part of our experience was the service, which was great, however the food barely qualifies as tex-mex. No one was impressed with their meal and although the chips were good, the salsa was gross. I honestly didn't know anyone could mess up salsa. This was my first time to this restaurant and my friend really wanted to go here tonight. After the service that we received and the quality of food I can see why this is high on her list. To begin with, we had the honor of having Matthew as our server. Not only does he have the most pleasant smile, he was a genuine professional, who you can tell by his demonstrated actions is not only customer centered, but he loves his job. He was able to make menu suggestions and was spot on. He maintained a great sense of humor listened attentively and treated the other tables just as outstanding to them as he did us. The service here was very good that day. The ambiance within this restaurant was excellent, because I was suprised to see a female making handmade tortillas. I was super impressed, because the last time I saw a female making homemade tortillas was when I was California. The restrooms were very clean and presentable that particular day. A friend made a reservation for a specific table in the back room (so we could play Pictionary) but for some odd reason, they seated us at a table at the front of the restaurant. The fajita beef in my burrito was also very chewy and not up to par with what they used to serve, must be a cheaper grade of meat.
