So today I took my son to Chuy's since we were close by and have not been in a while. I asked for tacos with no tomatoes, unfortunately it came back with tomatoes. The server took it back and I had a clear view of the kitchen and watched the cooks go through and pick tomatoes out. The server came back and told me they were new tacos. I disputed this, but agreed to try them and what do I get, tacos with tomatoes. So my 1 star is for the server and the kitchen. The manager comped my sons salad which was nice, but how disappointing. 3 tacos cost my business for good and we all know how much we love to eat. read more

Totally eatable but the mix was not for me . My wife had the taco salad a good regular item but eatable bowl was soft not crisp. I have been eating at the Louisville Chuy's for approximately one year. I come to Louisville a couple times a month for work and Chuy's is my Go-To Mexican... HANDS DOWN!! I usually have Chuy's "ChuyChanga". It is a deep fried chicken changa with a nice crisp exterior and a piping hot/oil-free interior. Also, last year I came into Chuy's looking to stock up on Green Chili to take home and freeze. My home town has no idea of the satisfaction one gets when smothering almost anything edible in a thick layer of Green Chili!! - the staff and management loaded my cooler up with both Green Chili and Hatch Green Chili. I was able to transport over two gallons of green chili home and freeze it for use all year long!!! - WOW - not only does the Louisville Chuy's have excellent food, they also have excellent customer service. read more

Chuys is great Tex-Mex. Always fast to get your food to the table, servers are always friendly, and the food is always delicious. It is also always busy. The wait on Saturdays is usually about an hour. They don't take reservations, but you can get on their list with the Yelp app. They are really great with special orders. I never order cheese and they always double check that I still want the sour cream. Some of their chicken is cooked in sour cream, so if you have dairy issues, make sure you ask! read more

My wife and I love Chuy's! It's become one of our favorite choices for reliable, casual Tex-Mex. We always split the steak fajitas and usually end up with leftovers. This is probably due to the awesome chips and sauces served before the meal. We love their salsa, jalapeño ranch, and queso! The only drawback would be that the chips are a bit too thin and often break when dipping. The steak fajitas include steak (obviously), grilled peppers and onions, brown rice, refried beans, guacamole, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and sour cream. I recommend adding any of the sauces to the fajita to give it another texture/flavor element. Even with all those options, the tortillas may be the star of the show. They come out warm, soft, and freshly handmade. They also offer a weekday happy hour until 7:00 that includes a FREE queso bar (queso, ground beef, refried beans) and $4.50 house margaritas. We recently went on a Friday around 6:00 and were seated right away and served promptly. We split the fajitas and a margarita, left full and took home leftovers, and only paid $25. The queso tastes more like that fake yellow nacho cheese. The guac lacks flavor and so does the tacos. This place has been consistently great. I've never had a bad experience. We were seated quickly and our waitress was fantastic. My personal favorite thing about this restaurant is their lime ranch to go with the chips. My mom and I ordered the Seasoned Beef Burrito with Tomatillo sauce. We both spilt and still each had leftovers. The portions are huge! We also ordered the Blackberry margarita. My mom liked it but it was a bit bitter for my taste. We used to go to Chuy's a lot because we loved the experience and the boom boom sauce. Unfortunately since we have now been placing our orders online and using carry-our services, the quality has gone down. I am not sure if they have new cooks due to COVID-19 or not, but we received the wrong order when we placed a bean and cheese burrito and it was barely stuffed with ground beef that we did not even order. The boom boom sauce on top didn't look right either, but tasted ok, just not the same. The jalapeño dip had a different flavor as well. I'm hoping they just had a bad night with a different cook. HAPPY HOUR HERE IS GREAT! Good deals, nacho car is so cool and equally yummy. I love the thin, salty chips. The big as your head burrito is so reasonably priced and is always enough food for dinner and lunch the next day. The complimentary creamy jalapeño ranch dip is pretty universally loved but it's a bit spicy for my taste. Chuys is very reliable. It's the same every time you go. Thursday I was craving more sauce and had to stop by after work to get an actual order to go. To the left of the hostess table there's a place to place to go order/pick up to go orders. I love Chuy's, I have been there probably close to a dozen times; I have yet to be disappointed. It is definitely not authentic Mexican; they don't claim to be. They are definitely tex-mex. I love their chips. They are thin and fresh. Their salsa is very good although a little more cilantro than I care for. They have a creamy spicy ranch that is also quite good. I typically get the veggie enchilada with green chili rice and either refried beans or charro beans. Myself and my family have tried probably close to a dozen different items and have never been disappointed. If going on a week night usually get sat right away, weekends you can expect to wait an hour or so; although this applies to most good restaurants in Louisville on a weekend. I've been going to Chuy's for about a decade. I know many in Louisville are biased against chain restaurants per se but Chuy's has an indisputably delectable menu that's meant to be shared with as many people as possible. First off, the wait to be seated is reasonable, even at peak hours. The longest time I've ever waited has been 30-45 minutes when Chuy's was slammed -- and, even then, the text-based notification system allows you some freedom to traipse around outside until your time to be seated arrives, which may be advisable given how caloric most of the menu offerings tend to be. Once seated, you'll get bottomless chips, creamy jalapeno dip, and salsa. While the salsa tends to be too acidic for my taste, it's worth a try each visit as sometimes the kitchen will curb the acidity. Once it comes time to order, for my money the best thing on the menu is the ($8.99) bean and cheese burrito with boom boom sauce and Mexican rice. Many who have visited Chuy's with me, including some naysayers who had yet to try that specific order, agree. Depending upon how many chips you eat and depending upon how open you are to eating leftovers -- Chuy's keeps well, in my opinion -- one huge burrito may easily satiate two in one sitting, so consider that if you're on a budget. Finally, if the night is young and you're thinking you might be in the mood something sweet later in the evening, tres leches is hard to beat; it's a creamy cake soaked in milk, topped with caramel and strawberries, so it's pretty awesome. Birthday dinner with women friends. Party of 8. It took them about 10 minutes to get a t as blessed ready for us . It was only 4.30 and it was not busy so that seemed like a long wait. They seated 3 other smaller parties while we waited. Once seated our server was excellent. Sweet snd efficient . Chips were thin and crispy but a bit on the greasy side. Salsa was way too spicy for my tastes. They also serve a milder white creamy sauce with the chips which was just ok. Another women and I split the chicken fajitas and there was simple food for both of us. The dinner came with beans and rice and all the fajitas trimmings. Again the chicken, onions and peppers were too spicy for me. I like Mexican food but prefer other Mexican options in the city th as t are not as spicy. Plenty of parking and they did bring a complimentary birthday dessert which appeared to be a sweet dough with a syrup dipping sauce. Again not my favorite. The jalapeno ranch is absolutely amazing and a great balance of salty, creamy, and tangy. I always order the chicken flautas, which are perfectly fried and spicy. Ok, so I'm addicted to the creamy jalapeno sauce. I always order some to go and they give you a bag of their fresh, crispy tortilla chips to take with you. Sometimes I stop by just to order a container of sauce to go - they offer different sizes. Don't be embarrassed if you order a large amount. Chuy's has more types of sauces to choose from than any other Tex Mex restaurant I've been to eat. Ask your server if you would like to try one. They range in spiciness and so does Chuy's food. If you're not sure how spicy it can get, definitely ask, but the menu shows you. For example: if you prefer something less spicy, go with the Mexican rice instead of the green chile rice. Both are good, but I usually go for anything spicy. Here are a few items I've tried: Tacos El Carbon - the flour tortillas are made fresh, in house. You can actually walk over to watch them being made. Chuychanga - a giant chimichanga. I ordered the chicken and it was made with large chunks of fresh-roasted, all white chicken breast. The meat is juicy and not dry, but I preferred a little extra (jalapeno) sauce. Enchiladas - portions for most meals are big (huge), so sometimes I order just one or two of these a la carte and forgo the sides. Everyone fills up on chips anyway. Who needs salsa? I'm usually focused on the jalapeno dip and don't need a large meal. Did I mention you can get the jalapeno dip to go? Because you can. read more

My experience was quite horrible. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left. I wish there was one positive I could report on, but Chuys failed to do just that. It all began with our wait. We were told fifteen minutes and that fifteen minutes turned into over an hour. They were short staffed and they weren't cleaning off the tables that could have been available. We heard servers tell the front staff to not seat them because they were extremely busy. The lady saw our party overhear this and said we have new people. The way she said it was rude as if we were complaining. And that we weren't. We were with wonderful company and waited patiently on to be sat outside, which, we specifically said was not where we wanted to sit. It was chilly and not where we wanted to enjoy our meals. Once we were sat, we waited around ten minutes for our server to even greet us. He could have stopped by our table multiple times to say he was busy and would be with us shortly. Well, he waited ten minutes to do just that. And it took another five minutes for him to bring our waters. At this point, we were starving and decided against alcohol. Who knew how long that would take. We made sure we had our meals ready to be ordered the moment we asked for waters. He told us he would be right back to assist us with ordering. Another ten minutes went by and we had to grab a manager to get our server. We had very simple orders without any modifications and waited around 30 plus minutes for our meals. Once our meals got to us, cold night I add, we were not asked if they were correct or if we needed anything. Our server just jetted off! Well that wouldn't have been so bad had he not totally messed up every order minus mine, well kinda. I ordered two soft beef tacos and received a taco meal with hard shell tacos. Close enough so I will give him credit for making them tacos. Our server didn't end up writing our orders down and guessed what we wanted lol. He even told us this. I understand you are new, but maybe you should look at another job. Being a server is extremely difficult and needs a special type of person who is attentive and a great at multitasking. It's safe to say the rest of our meal went on like this and we needed up leaving without eating. The manager was extremely difficult and made that after the second time our food was brought out and messed up we wanted to go elsewhere. We were polite and being harassed by the manager was the last thing we wanted to deal with. That is when I lost my patience and said well sir, we are leaving due to your ridiculously awful customer service. This was two years ago but I will never be back. read more

You heard me right, Kentucky nabbed a Chuy's, who knows how (I have not done my research) and the creamy jalapeno is a-flowing. I found out that Louisville would be getting a Chuy's in May of this year. We took my grandparents to Shady Grove while they were in Austin, and they liked to so much they told the hostess they should open one in KY where they're from. The waitress said, "I don't think that's in the works, but you will be getting a Chuy's soon!" My sister and I were in shock. A Chuy's? In Kentucky? Those fried chicken-loving fools won't even know what hit them. Six months later I experienced it for myself. It was just like a Texas Chuy's... but run by Kentuckians. Chick-a Chick-a Boom Boom enchiladas are definitely the way to go here. Best enchiladas I've had anywhere. The chips and salsa were good and they had a spicy ranch sauce that was different from anything I've gotten with the complimentary chips anywhere else. My local contact recommended putting that sauce on everything and he is basically an enchilada whisperer as far as I'm concerned. The margarita was ok but nothing special. The silverware comes sealed in little paper bags and has a Jewish message but I assume has to do with being kosher. No clue on the connection but a nice touch if that is an issue for you. read more

After waiting over an hour our table of 9 all got various entrees and appetizers and nothing impressed me. Food is compared to a upscale mediocre tumbleweed. I will add some good points though! This was the first time for my visit to Chuys, since they've been in that location. I wont lie, Bahama Breeze was one of my favorite restaurants and I guess I've still been mourning over it. The atmosphere was not at all what I expected for a Tex-Mex restaurant. It was very 50's eclectic diner style. The food was okay, but disappointing for what we paid. My husband and I both had the steak and chicken fajitas and although the flavor was good l, I expected better. I can't believe I am giving 4 stars to a Tex-Mex chain. But honestly, I have to review it for what it is-- a Tex-Mex chain. Go in expecting a fun atmosphere, good service, and very Americanized "Mexican" food. Yes, it is "gringo food" as someone else put it, but that doesn't mean that it can't taste good. The quality of the ingredients appears to be quite good, the serving sizes are generous as is common for similar chain restaurants and the menu has plenty of options. Went for lunch with 3 coworkers since it was a charity day for one of my fav groups (Saving Sunny Inc - dog rescue) and Chuy's was giving 10% of the bill to the group if you brought a flyer in. Even a little bit adds up and I give some bonus points to Chuys for supporting a local charity like that. Waitress was great, really, I even asked her name (Courtney) so I could recommend her to some friends that were planning to come for dinner. Chips crispy, salsa fresh and slightly hot-- no ketchupy or tomato sauce flavor- just real tomatos, onions, cilantro etc. The waitress brought out a sample of all the sauce options for the burritos/tacos/whatever since it was our first visit. I had the fish and shrimp tacos (one of each). I was surprised at how good the shrimp and fish were, just lightly battered and fried but not at all greasy and the jalapeno ranch sauce was mild but complimentary to the food and didn't have the soapy flavor ranch dressing usually has to me. Some of the best fried seafood tacos I've ever had. The refried beans and rice along with it were ho-hum. Not bad, just really dull. But the two seafood tacos and the chips and salsa were plenty of food. I'd probably ask to switch the rice and beans for a side salad or something like that. My coworkers enjoyed their meals also, the ingredients were fresh and the portions large. All in all, I had a good lunch. When I want little corn tortilla tacos with onion and cilantro or a giant torta, I'll hit up Santa Fe Grill or El Mariachi or Preston Highway. When I want a crowd-pleasing food that will suit the less adventurous eaters in the group while still providing flavor to the more adventurous, I'll consider Chuy's as an option. read more
