Food was good not great...I had one fish and one shrimp taco...they were fine. The margaritas were tasty. The superstar was tres leches which was obviously made in house....I would go again just for dessert! My food looked as if had been sitting a while maybe in a warmer, the cheese was cool/cold and the rice dry/hard. My husband loved his food. The waitress put 2 appetizers on my bill that belonged to other couples at the table ( after asking twice who was paying for what), which over charged my bill about 20.00. Instead of simply walking away to ask her manager what to do since we had all already paid, she spoke so that everyone could hear her and unintentionally caused a scene which embarrassed me, everyone around us was now staring and the people at my table were all adding suggestions to the conversation lol. I was not impressed at all. I got the beef fajitas and they were very bland. I can eat a lot of food so I decided to sample a taco. Again, not impressed. I dropped close to fifty bucks for food, a couple of drinks and tip. Total waste of money. I honestly would have rather gone to Taco Bell. My wife and I came into Chuys with friends for the first time for dinner to try as we have heard great things. We waited about 15 minutes for a table which was not so bad. The restaurant has an old diner type theme with bright fun colors. Our waitress was Page who was very helpful. We told her it was our first time there and brought out samples of the many sauces that the restaurant had to offer as well as telling us which dishes came with our favorites (I liked the boom) . We all got something different to try it all. I got a combo called the Elvis combo which is a lot of food but worth it . Has enchiladas , a taco, rice and some beans. It was all delicious. My wife got the taco salad that was very fresh . She enjoyed it very much. We also gave their margaritas a try for happy hour which were so good. It was just the right blend. Not too bad for prices. Overall everything was great. We will definitely be going to chuys from now on for our Mexican food cravings . read more

Went today and regretted it. I sat in the bar area and ordered my drink and food. My food came in about 3 minutes, the same time I got my chips and salsa. When it comes that fast you can't even enjoy dining out and relaxing. Unfortunately with how fast the food came out it was cold. I think I got leftover food that was reheated from the night before. Ended up asking for fresh rice, but wish I'd sent the whole thing back. Should add that my server was very responsive, the food just wasn't that good. read more

As a individual who has worked as a chef for twenty years, I found the service to be wonderful, and the food fresh and outstanding for the price point. Sure if I went to Like Guy Savoy in Paris France, or Restaurant de l'Hôtel de Ville in Switzerland, I would get better food and service, but then again, I would 20 times the price. There would be a staff that made 3 times as much money employed there. The fact is, this is a Tex-Mex restaurant which is a fusion restaurant, so Alison it is not a Mexican Restaurant. You where disappointed because you where looking for authentic Mexican food. So naturally dishes that are a combination of Mexican and southwestern fare would disappoint you. I have read the negative post in yelp about this Chuy's and they all say the same. People get a life a Tex-Mex restaurant is not a Mexican restaurant. Go back to Taco Bell where you will be comfortable. As a person who knows what Tex-Mex food is the food was Great. As a Chef that understands the business world, for what you pay for the service is wonderful and the staff did a wonderful job. The staff at Chuys could not be more accommodating and helpful. I was waiting to meet someone and after about 1/2 hr. the staff wanted to make me comfortable at a table near the front window with salsa and chips and water. Shortly after that, they asked if I wanted a dinner and I stated I didn't know if my meeting was going to occur but they got me a drink (a sample of very good light frozen peach sangria). So i did end up ordering and eating by myself but never felt alone. Wonderful staff! Wonderful, fresh, and large portions of food too. The chicken tortilla soup and super-looking taco salad were great, would order again for sure. They even allow you to choose a dressing. If I could give 50 stars, I would do it! I give it two stars because the food was good but there is one hostess at the front that just does a terrible job. I think her name was Kayla or Kyla I'm not sure but I know it was something around that. I've come to chuys many times before and I've seen her a lot and it's the same every time. First off, when we walk in the door she just says hi...and that's it, and that's if she even greets us. The other hosts always have to jump in and greet us properly. Secondly while the other hosts are doing their jobs she was on her phone and when they asked her to take our table she complained and then took forever to put her phone down and actually grab the menus to the point where the other host told her she needed to hurry up. She took us to our table and walked away. Another time that we came in (which was recent) we had to go on a wait and she wasn't taking anyone's names or anything until the other host came up to the front and the poor girl was so stressed out because the other girl wasn't telling her who came first and she had to figure it out and do it all by herself not only that but when she was bringing people to their seats the other girl (the bad host) wouldn't even help or she'd take forever to come back (I've worked as a host before I know it doesn't take that long to sit people) She has terrible customer service and I have no idea why she still has a job here! read more

I know everyone raves about this place but we were disappointed! The interior has so much "going on" it felt like eating at a hoarders house, so we chose to eat outside. I think the flair is supposed to be "fun" but good drinks make things fun and Chuy's lacks in the beverage category. My husband and I both ordered margaritas on the rocks and they were served in what another reviewer referred to as a shot glass (he was correct). Wasn't a big fan of the tortilla chips (really greasy). We both ordered the fish tacos because that is how we choose to measure all Mexican/tex mex restaurants. The fish tacos were served in flour tortillas and had about a teaspoon of special sauce so they were crazy dry (too bad our margaritas were long gone). Too many good locally owned restaurants in the area to go back here. This might be a fun place for a large group if some are picky eaters as it's more mainstream food. read more

Been here several times. Brought my sister visiting from out of town. Got there 6:30. Patio full. Asked to wait for patio seating. Informed "there are two parties already waiting." Elected to wait anyway. Overheard another patron with same request and staff gave him a beeper. Politely inquired why we didn't get one, then received one but told for second time we could sit in bar area. Seated outside at 7:10. Asked waitress if we could get drinks at 'happy hour' prices - she checked on that - "he said no." Soon after a 'manager' came out and (overly) explained about legalities in VA re. serving alcohol. Felt like the experience was more work than necessary. Did not like the attitude of seating hostess, or punitive tone of the manager either. read more

Why go there when you can go to a million other Mexican restaurants that have way better and faster service and for a more reasonable price as well. Awful. After pretty good experiences at Chuy's in other cities, I was excited to return in the Richmond area. The novely effect had since worn off, and I became very aware of how average of a Mexican chain Chuy's is. There is nothing wrong with Chuy's--the decor is eclectic and quirky, and even a bit personal, as this location lets people put up framed pictures of their dogs (emphasis on the quirky, I guess). The service is no better or worse than anywhere else, though I will note that I have never had to wait to be seated. The food is very average and nothing to get excited about. The first time I came, I was excited to try their different sauces to accompany the dishes, but after trying a few of them, still none of them have really made a lasting impact. I also found it to be a bit pricier than Mexican restaurants of similar quality. Certainly a reliable place for a quick bite, but there are definitely superior places. read more

I must say I'm very disappointed in Chuy's!! First off the waitress told us that since last night was the celebration of their one year at that location that it was happy hour prices all day!! So my boyfriend and I both ordered the margaritas with the coronas in them.. They where priced about $10 regularly so she lead us to thinking that the entire drink was a happy hour deal!! When the bill came we noticed that we were charged for the margaritas and beers separately!! When I asked the waitress about it she said "oh the margaritas itself is on the happy hour deal but the coronas are full price.." I usually drink those type of margaritas anyways happy hour or not but I felt like I was lied too. My sister in law is from Texas and she love Chuy's and I have heard great things about the food!! I ordered the Chuy's friend chicken!! The chicken itself was pretty good but I hated how they put the chicken on top the the beans making the bottom half of it soggy!! My boyfriend got there famous Barito!! He said it was mediocre. I won't be going back!! Not when there are so many other Mexican food restaurants around.. read more

For the life of me, I don't know what the buzz is all about? The restaurant looks very neat on the outside, and super kitschy inside. The food by no means compares to the crapiest mexican restaurant. The flour tortillas were stale, the chicken burrito lacked serious flavor, and the nachos were paper thin. We just left Chuy's. This was our first visit. They are new to this location so we thought we'd try it out. Our party included 3 adults and 2 older teens. We all love Mexican and Tex-Mex food. I'm sorry to say we won't go back. Except for the salad that one of us had, all of the rest of the food was awful. We had enchiladas both cheese and chicken, chile rellenos, spanish rice, chile rice, refried beans, and charro beans...plus the salad. The enchiladas had very little chicken or cheese. The sauces were ok but not outstanding...we had 5 to try. The refried beans were flavorless and had to have been straight out of a can. The charro beans had some flavor but nothing to write home about. The service was acceptable; again nothing outstanding. It was terribly loud...you had to yell to talk at all. And it was very expensive considering the quality of the food. Go further out Hull Street, just a few blocks, and go to Rico's. They are excellent! read more
