The atmosphere is just perfect for couples and families. You are greeted by hostesses that make you feel welcome. We were taken to our table and that's when everything went down hill. Our table was still had food and drinks on it and the hostess just walked away. The waitress came over and started to clear off the table in 3 trips. We sat down, the waitress had taken our drink orders. The waitress brought our drink orders which consisted of 2 Bloody Mary"s, a margarita, a water with lemon and chips with salsa. The waitress had asked to take our orders and we had asked her to give us a few to decide. We had taken about 10 minutes and we had asked to place our orders. As the waitress started to walk away, we had asked for some more chips. As we sat there and got caught up with one another, the waitress had walked past our table several times and not bringing our chips. We had again asked for some more chips and she agreed to bring us some. The waitress had brought the chips and we had asked for more drinks and more salsa. The waitress then addressed us by saying "you should have asked for more salsa when we asked for chips." The waitress brought our extra drinks and salsa with attitude from hell. Our food had arrived to our tables and was warned that the plates were hot. The waitress was was right, the plates were very hot and the food was luke warm. The waitress never returned to our table to ask how the food was till we sent a bus boy to retrieve her. The waitress with attitude arrived at our table, we asked for more drinks and asked to remove the empty glasses from the small table we four adults were sitting at. The drinks had arrived and we asked the waitress to start removing the plates as we finished. By this time we were done with her attitude and had asked for the check. Don't get me wrong, it's hard to find a good Tex-Mex restaurant here in Indy and in my opinion, Chuy"s is the best. The food and service on a good day is out of this world. A lot of people would argue with me about this but I am speaking the truth because for 10 years I had lived in the great state of Texas where the Tex- Mex food was authentic.Chuy"s restaurant, hats off to you for capturing that true taste of food but please work on your customer service. read more

Really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Waitress was helpful in making selections. I highly recommend the appetizer platter. With multiple selections it gave us a taste if everything. My one complaint is the table placement is a little tight. Servers and customers had to compete for space. But this might also be because it's new and the 'flow' isn't down yet. read more

The food was ok. Service was AWFUL! A waitress who wasn't even ours was talking to us about how she almost had someone call CPS on her. The atmosphere was obnoxious...all the waiters and waitresses were yelling to one another across the restaurant. I had originally planned to talk to the manager about our service, but it seemed like all the servers were doing something inappropriate- which made me believe management was actually the issue in not keeping their staff accountable to good service. This was awful, service and food!!! Waitress was dismissive at best. We asked for small saucers for the chips, she never brought, she brought an additional "salsa", when taking our drink oder I requested tea, she asked "sweeten or unsweetened" I said do you have "sweet and low" she pointed to the center of the table " it was covered by the drink menu", I said unsweetened, she brought sweetened. I asked for my enchilada to have NO refried beans, it came with refried beans.Sent back, The food was tasteless at best, not a good place when you are hungry which we were and was expecting a good meal. The maragaritas were outstanding, albeit overpriced for the size. The salsa was pretty inedible, really. The menu was incredibly narrow with unusual combos. Rice and beans were both quite bland. My fish taco had 4 small shrimp and not enough garnishments to even fill up one taco, let alone two. Service was poor and it was clear the server wasn't listening to us at all. This place is usually more hit than miss for me Tonight was a miss. Our waitress, Tori, was exceptional. The food, however, not up to par with the norm. The tortilla soup is usually a tasty deconstructed effort assembled just before serving with a fair amount of freshly roasted chicken, crispy corn tortilla strips, avocado and veggies. But something was off from word go. The culprit? Somehow, the normally delicious slow-cooked broth was replaced by boullion. Flat, fake and salty tasting... a never before experience (and hopefully never again occurance.) The Mexi-Cobb salad looked beautiful but the bright and fresh greens were not properly cleaned and after one mouthful of gritty dirt, the meal was over for me. All was not lost, however, as my dining partner proclaimed the chicken flautas were their normal crispy goodness. That plate, beans rice and all, left the table clean! Proof that another go is a must, but based on past experience alone - not tonight's. read more

I have been a fan of this place since it opened & am constantly bringing new people there to try it! The salsa is always fresh and great. The creamy jalapeno sauce is so good that you will become addicted to it. Seriously. The baja shrimp tacos and the Southwestern are my two favorite dishes. This manger here is amazing. Our 3 year old daughter was a little under the weather and we couldn't get her to eat her food and she wouldn't sit in her own seat. The manger came up to our table, sat down and was talking to her so friendly to see if she would eat her food and sit in her own seat so we could eat our food. When all else failed he asked us if he could give her ice cream. He is a wonderful manger but just a wonderful, pleasant and friendly person! These are the type of places that keeps me coming back! If only zero stars were available. Negative stars. We were stuck deep in suburbia, fighting hunger, and with no options aside from chains. Chuy's became the default choice. One drink at the bar and I notice not a single Hispanic employee - never a good sign for any "Mexican" restaurant. We move outside for dinner with a view of the CVS and McDonald's across the concrete mall parking lot. As enchanting as this wasn't, the food and service to come were even worse. When a 'Tex-Mex' chain makes Don Pablo's seem "authentically Mexican," you know things are far from ideal. A friend had gushed over a "dill- jalapeno dip,' so we ordered some. Only there wasn't any jalapeno in it, only dill. An apt metaphor for the tasteless, often cold, and completely spiceless fare we were to be subjected to and charged for. I ordered something called "This Killed Elvis." This dish my have indeed bored The King to death: three large, bland, unappealing burritos that set there limply; beyond tepid, beyond mediocre, bordering on vomitous. My girfriend's plate was equally unappetizing, and she left 7/8 of its inedible contents undisturbed. While searching for the nearest exit, our server asked if we desired to-go containers for the multitude of food we couldn't even fathom putting into our mouths. We looked at her is if she were absurdly insane. In summary, Taco Bell is a far better use of your suburban 'Tex-Mex' discretionary income. Better yet, come into the city for actual Mexican food at actual non-chains who employ real-life Mexican cooks. Otherwise, I'd choose abject hunger over Chuy's if faced with those options again. read more

I love their Chicken Fajitas... It's usually always what I get, however I've recently tried the Tacos Al Carbon which is a good alternative for a cheaper price. They have fresh, floury tortillas and it's all very flavorful. Chips are thin and salty. The jalapeño dip is awesome. I've also had the Baja Tacos which are also tasty. The decor is unique, however it doesn't seem too acoustically sound because it can get pretty loud inside. It's also always very cold. read more

We love Chuys. When we lived in Richmond, VA , we went to Chuys fairly frequently. When we moved to Indianapolis, we were very happy to see they had a Chuys too. I don't know about the negative reviews on here- but we have ALWAYS had a good experience here. Great food and pretty good service. We've tried about half the menu between the two of us over the years, some things we enjoy more than others of course . Sometimes the wait is long- but it's always worth it to us! read more

I am a huge fan of Mexican cuisine, so it was only right to finally give Chuy's a fair shot. I happened to pop up to Chuy's, wanting to kill time. A coworker of mine had informed me of their "happy hour" special from 4-7, so I was immediately intrigued. From 4-7pm, if you purchase a drink, the nacho bar is free! How can you beat that? I asked the server if there were any specials available and she introduced me to Margaronas, which is now my favorite alcohol beverage! I haven't had any entrees at Chuy's aside from the alcohol or free nacho bar, however, I know it's totally worth giving a shot! read more

Went here for the first time since it opened, and was not impressed. I worked in restaurants in my youth, and everything these waiters did was wrong. Our waitress had a vacuous look the whole time she waited on us.... No smiling, not warm, not hospitable, just blank. The food was decent but nothing more than a step up from Taco Bell, nothing memorable; no interesting flavors or special seasonings. . Although the hostesses were able to get us a seat outside as requested, they seemed completely disinterested in what they were doing. We had to approach them about seating and they didn't greet us first. This may seem a small thing but the first face you see is your first impression of an establishment. So, did we enjoy our time? Yes but only because of the company we were with.... The meal, the staff and the service was a disappointment. We won't be back. read more

We were seated right away and our waitress was great. The food, not so good. Salsa was pretty spicy, but good. We ordered a side of tortillas with butter while we waited for our meals. We saw them being made fresh and were expecting a hot, light, fluffy tortilla. They came to the table cold, stuck together and tasted like a raw, pasty mixture of flour and water...awful. We were thinking of ordering fajitas but quickly changed our minds after our tortilla sample...yuck! We both ordered the light taco meal, 1 taco and chili con queso,and avocado...out of fear of ordering anything else made with tortillas. My husband took one bite of his taco and held his hand up that was COVERED in grease. We ate here last night for what was (maybe?) the 4th time, but will definitely be the last time. I have never been highly satisfied with their food. It's ok and exactly what you would expect, so I don't go in with high expectations. I have enjoyed the house margaritas every time, which is really the only reason we have ever come back. We got margs from the bar while we waited for our table. Nothing to complain about yet. At the table, we ordered another round, which showed up after about 20 minutes. These tasted like we were drinking straight lime juice. I love a tart marg but this was simply not right. I couldn't even sip on it. We were told that the bartender had just changed out the "sugar water" (ahem, simple syrup, maybe?) and that was the reason for the difference in taste. Whatever. We ordered an extra shot of tequila, dumped it in, and hoped for the best. We placed our orders, which consisted of 80% crispy tacos. Easy, right? Wrong. We waited AN HOUR AND A HALF for our food. (Now, normally I would not sit somewhere that long without walking out, but I was somewhat preoccupied with waiting for the ice to melt in my marg so I could choke it down.) Our server came back and checked on us ONE TIME during that period. I heard another server telling her table that the kitchen was backed up. (Duh.) Our server finally came back and told us the same excuse and added some mumbling about how they had run out of refried beans. (No idea what that had to do with our tacos.) He eventually brought out all of our food - which was cold. All of it. Even my deep-fried chile relleno. I would have expected them to comp us something...anything. But no, there was no effort to even try and salvage us as future customers - not even an apology. What a dismal waste of time and money. read more

Typical chain Mexican food but man, oh, man the portions are HUGE. I love the atmosphere here and the drink menu has several interesting combos. I order the same damn thing at every Mexican restaurant I frequent: ground beef chimichangas and margarita(s) on the rocks with salt. The "Chuychanga" was thicker than a sub sandwich and came with my choice of one of their delectable sauces, rice and decried beans. The creamy jalapeño sauce was very, very good. I also tried the deluxe tomatillo and the queso. The queso was my only complaint... Tasted a bit like velveeta and salsa. Our server at this specific location was attentive, very friendly, funny and fast. I visited with 8 people, half of which were children. It goes a a long way with me if you treat my children like customers and our server didn't miss a beat. We will definitely be back even if it is 30 minutes away from home and it's not as authentic as our usual dive. Love it. read more
