I would give Chuy's a 3.5. We went on a Thursday evening and were surprised to see how busy the restaurant was. I didn't like the crowded waiting area. The hostess looked completely freaked out and it didn't seem well organized. We got there pretty early to take advantage of the free salsa bar. There was ground beef, chips, salsa, and queso on the salsa bar. It was a bit difficult to get to due to the restaurant being crowded (it was only 6:00pm!) We also had a side of complimentary creamy jalapeño dip for our chips. I was not impressed with the salsa. It had an unpleasant "earthy" flavor. The queso was ok, not the best I've ever had. Chips were warm and crispy. I felt like the. Jalepeno sauce was overrated. It tasted like ranch. I ordered a combination platter for my entree. It was very spicy, but not flavorful. This is a good place to go if you are looking for large portions. The restaurant itself is extremely loud and crowded. Not a place you want to go and relax. Parking wasn't easy either. Tasteless.... Best word to describe the food the chips are thin and have no flavor, I had the chicken taquitoes (spelled incorrect apologize ) the chicken had no seasoning on it and tasted either microwaved or boiled, the sauce was cold and flavorless. First things first, it looks like spring break in there. And who doesn't love a colorful fun environment? Then, they bring you these rockin' thin chips served with this jalapeño cilantro ranch and salsa - which quite possibly could have been sent from the heavens. All six of us had our own bowls of the ranch because we simply could not put it down. To help wash that down, we had some pretty fantastic mango margaritas. I highly recommend the chica-Chica-boom-boom enchiladas because the sauce has a nice and spicy kick to it. Everything was wonderful and we cleaned our plates! Good food, but not very smart service wise. Couldn't seat a party of 8 despite plenty of open tables - and we were told it was because the tables belonged to different servers so we would have to split the check and pay separately.....get a clue. You can't give one of the servers the table in the other section? There are 3 options for us and they can't make it work.....seriously- i drover from Greenwood to eat here, but I will not make that mistake again. This is by far the absolute WORST meal I've ever had at a mexican restaurant. My wife and I drove by there many times wanting to go, but there would be tons of people standing outside waiting to be seated. Upon finally getting to eat there we found the food to be bland. My wife got the appetizer plate, which she sent back and settled for the chicken taco's. (Of which she still didn't like) And I got the chicken nachos. C- at best. Bad impression began at the hostess stand. Three young girls that clearly had never been trained in customer service didn't acknowledge me as I stood in front of them. I had to ask to place a to-go order. One of them asked me what I wanted without ever offering a menu. She didn't even ask if I wanted a beverage with my meal. It didn't take long for the meal to be ready. But upon getting it to the car, it appeared one side item was missing. Another trip back inside to ask for the beans. Hostess asked me to bring back in my sack. Third trip in she inspected the sack, pulled out the rice container and showed me the refried beans on the bottom. She could have explained that without me making the trip to the car to get the order. Finally get back to the car, get the food out of the sack and discover they didn't include silverware!! Fourth trip in to get it and not once did they say they were sorry, offer to separate the beans and rice, nothing. I will say the quantity of food was more than satisfactory. The quality not so much. Pretty typical chain Mexican food. I've had worse, but I've had much, much better. Pass on this place. There are better restaurants close by with MUCH better service. read more

Food: 2 out of 10 Wait Staff: 7 out of 10 Managment: 0 out of 10 Atmosphere: 2 out of 10 Parking: 3 out of 10 Upon being seated at my table, I requested an Allergy Menu or a list of ingredients in their tacos. My waiter apologized first, then handed me a white piece of paper with around 4 menu items listed on it. I then explained to him that I have food allergies wanted to know what ingredients were in their taco's and to see if their chips were gluten-free. The waiter had the Manager(?) assist me. I explained my allergies in detail to him then asked what ingredients were in the tacos and in the chips. He was trying to be helpful but had trouble explaining the taco ingredients to my satisfaction. I opted to "play it safe" and just get a bowl of guacamole to eat with chips and salsa. I confirmed 2 separate times (with the manager) that the chips were gluten and wheat free. He stated that they were made fresh in-house and they were made from Corn Only, not wheat. Within 20 minutes after my first bite, I started to get a migraine (this is a direct indicator that I was having an allergic reaction to gluten, my other allergens have a different indicator.) This later turned into a severe migraine event that lasted 3 immensely torturous days. I still feel like I should give a review of the food and service for those Do Not have or Are Not Yet Aware that they have food allergies. So, here it goes... About the Atmosphere: The acoustics in this restaurant makes it difficult to have a normal conversation without raising your voice. It looks like a themed "Diner" with tall ceilings, open rooms and with very large decorative palm trees in-between the tables. There are booths and tables. But the tables are set very close together. It is very difficult for patrons and staff to navigate the room without bumping into your chair or walking uncomfortably close to your food while you are eating. There is outdoor seating which may be a better seating option for anyone that wants to have a comfortable conversation. When I visited, less than half of the restaurant was occupied and I was uncomfortable. About the FOOD: I ordered Guacamole and a Sprite/Mist Twist. The chips and salsa were "complimentary." The CHIPS (not gluten-free) were thin, both flexible and crispy (about 50/50) in texture, somewhat oily and didn't have any flavor except for salt and oil. The SALSA was below average. It was over-chopped into very tiny pieces, very watery, on the "spicy" side and desperately needed onions and cilantro to balance the flavor. The GUACAMOLE tasted more like "smashed avocado" and should have more chunks of onions and cilantro. One scoop of Guacamole was served over a bed of chopped lettuce to give it the illusion of abundance. Instead, it added an unpleasant over processed lettuce/chemical flavoring. The chips, salsa, and guacamole are made fresh so I'm sure that the quality and flavors will vary daily. About the Service: My waiter was very nice and refilled my drink often. Although it did take around 10 minutes for me to get my check. I'm not a very picky eater, I just like to be detailed when writing an explanation. Since the basic ingredients required in my food were not there, I would find it hard to believe that anything else on the menu would taste better than "Average" at most. This combined with the noisy and uncomfortable atmosphere AND the fact that the Manager misinformed me about the ingredients in my food thus causing a serious allergic reaction... I would RATE this place a ZERO if it were possible. There are much better restaurant choices within walking distance. read more

We frequent Chuys and have always had excellent service. Today was our first less than excellent experience when we waited for some time with no service. But after bringing it to the manager's attention he not only personally took care of us but he also comped our meal and our next meal. They truly stand behind their service. When I saw how busy this place has been, I was wondering why a tex mex restaurant was so popular. I mean, don Pablo's isn't that great. So when I went yesterday, I was really trying to evaluate this place and see what made it different from other Mexican and tex mex places. And I was pleasantly surprised. This place is awesome. While the salsa for the chips has slightly too much salt (it's still good), the chips were amazing. So was the queso. So was the boom boom sauce. Really, everything was great. And not badly priced either. I'd go here over any Mexican restaurant around. It is better and stands out. The margarita I had was good too, by the way. And the atmosphere was really fun. And although my review is very sporadic, I have no doubts I wouldn't love to come here again and again. read more

I had the fajita chicken in your face burrito and found it to be rather mediocre in flavor. The burrito was very large but had only a small amount of chicken. The large amount of beans in the burrito completely overwhelmed the taste, and I had only two bites of cheese in the whole burrito. The green chili rice that accompanied it was good, and the chips were excellent. The service was also excellent. If only the food had been as good as the service. I was excited that the salsa was made with fresh ingredients, but it had too much lime or lemon juice in it for my taste. And the complimentary creamy jalapeño dip was nothing more than ranch dressing. Overall it seemed that the ingredients were very run of the mill without being enhanced by any of the extras to bring out the flavor. It is very, very loud in the restaurant. We were about 10 feet from a table of 6, and we had difficulty carrying on a conversation. The server had to keep asking us to repeat as well. Something that seems so hard to find these days is good customer service. We have 2 year old twins and we are always fearful of when we take them out so we called before. Elizabeth answered my husbands questions as far as being able to sit somewhere away from others so our kids didn't disturb them and the time frame they were running during lunch hour. She was so nice and said they had plenty of things to keep them occupied with. Nicole was our waitress, they brought out a wet towel for easy cleanup, tortilla balls for the kids to play with and crayons. Was the food amazing, no. The customer service is what was so outstanding. It was the first time in 2 years we haven't felt like an inconvenience for people with our girls. We had a small hiccup with a meal and within 30 seconds there was a manager at our table side. We're extremely impressed with the customer service.
