I went to Chuys in Norman this evening and it was pretty busy so I asked if me and my husband could go sit in the bar, I was told it was open seating so we went on in. The service was absolutely horrible, we sat for around 5-10 minutes before even being greeted and then we ordered our drinks and proceeded to wait another 20 minutes to get two of the cocktails featured on the drink menu, we ordered queso, it never came. Our entrees came out and they were cold but as someone who has bartended and served I never go out of my way to make someone in the service industry feel more stressed as the bartender was already scrambling around trying to get caught up. Since our queso never came I just asked for an order of it to go, the queso was cold and very watery, not normal for Chuys queso at all. Overall, it was just a very unpleasant experience to have especially after spending a little over 100$ after tipping. The managers definitely should've stepped in and supported the bartender in order to provide better service to the customers. I usually love Chuys food and drinks but tonight was just not it, I hope they improve the quality of service and food. read more

I love it here! My boyfriend's mother is one of the cooks (she makes the sauces, beans, etc.) and we love visiting her! She makes the food taste so wonderful. Chuy's definitely has its own signature taste (unlike El Chico's...or any other mainstream Tex-Mex restaurant for that matter) that I just can't get out of my head! We always leave a good tip for our waitress, they're always so sweet and happy to serve us. One poor girl spilled ranch all over herself and was only concerned if it had gotten on us- which it hadn't!- how sweet! Anywho, I urge you to try Chuy's. Second time eating here at Chuy's Still fun as ever with great margaritas. I ordered an Elvis plate and it was humongous. (See pic) The only negative I have is that the purple corn tortillas are a little bit on the tough side when served. The regular corn tortillas for their enchiladas were soft and perfect. This is based on two times eating here with the same experience. Now on the other hand, OMG, is the tortilla soup. It was unbelievably good. Let me just start by saying the food was really good and I went there just for the Tres Leche. However the waitstaff was either very short staffed or little care was taken on the patio. We sat for 15-20 minutes before we got our drinks. I had to get up and get chips to go with our order of Queso that was delivered before the waitress quickly walked off with barely a word. I had to go into the restaurant to find someone that could give me my own silverware and plates. When I mentioned this to the waiter he complained how he had asked for help but not been given any. Drinks were empty most of the night. We ran out of time and was not able to get any desert. I told the waiter how disappointed I was in the service and he continued to complain about the lack of help and walked off shaking his head. He did receive a tip because he was working hard but would go MIA for 10 minutes at a time. Update: I received a phone call from the manager who apologized for the poor experience and wished to make things right. read more

Packed on a Monday night? WOW - I couldn't believe we had to wait on a Monday night. BUT, that being said, I felt it was worth the wait. If I had to put one word out there to describe this place it would be: SERVICE. Their service was top-notch. I loved our server - she was wonderful; attentive, interesting, full of personality, but not over the top. Now, I'm from NY, and I'm sure we don't have a Chuy's up near us, but as far as Mexican Restaurants go, I would say this is pretty good. And I love that you can see the Mexican women rolling tortillas right there in the restaurant. It really reminded me of being at some of the authentic places down in San Antonio! Food-wise, I was satisfied. The chips were very good. Thin and crispy. Nicely salted, not to greasy. The salsa was OK, though I preferred the guac. Reminded me of my Mexican mother-in-law's homemade stuff. I had chicken enchiladas. I can't say they were better than I've ever had (but I've had real stuff for Sunday family dinners), but they were passable. Maybe a bit too much sauce. Not really sure... HOWEVER, the green chile rice was OUTSTANDING, and the charro beans were excellent as well. Not greasy at all - which is always my problem when I order refried beans. The hubs and I were feeling nostalgic for Austin, and Chuy's (started in Austin) totally fit the bill. And man, are we glad we went. The food is fantastic. Just as we remembered. I adore their emphasis on green chiles - my weakness, just ask me when Hatch season rolls around. The menu is varied, with something for everyone, and daily specials that are actually pretty special (carnitas street tacos with green chile pork? YES!) I was feeling my favorite indulgence -- appetizers: namely: queso - LIQUID GOLD, fresh guac (perfect, with chunks of fresh avos and just a hint of spice) and lots and lots of chips + tortillas. And the tortillas - all fresh made, corn and flour, and wow are they amazing. Picture hearts in my eyes. Of course, that was my entree - so I ordered two crispy tacos a la carte for "dinner" - super good, excellent seasoning and perfectly crisp. And I had to save room for dessert, right? The hubs was feeling the stacked enchiladas - New Mexican style, with blue corn tortillas and an awesome (although a little spicy for me) green chili sauce. Had a few bites and wow, exactly how I remembered them and absolutely wonderful. Of course, we ordered too much food. And OF COURSE we ordered dessert. The tres leche cake in one word: SUBLIME. Now -- regardless of the food being awesome, this date night would not be the date it was without the AMAZING service we received from Scarlet, who is a bona-fide PRO. I don't think she is even capable of saying "no" to a customer, especially when asked nicely, and she was incredibly patient with my indecision and fear of too much spice. The sweet woman must have brought out five different sauces to try along with a heaping sample of the green chili pork in that day's special. I mean, talk about above and beyond. And kudos to her - I offhand mentioned the Boom Boom sauce, and she brought it out - I see what you did there, Scarlet, baiting me for my next visit - and I applaud it. With the excellent food and the STELLAR service, this was such a treat. We will definitely be back soon. And trying the Boom Boom sauce. Growing up in southside OKC, my expectation for Mexican food is high. Please note: this is TEX MEX so different from the likes of ceviche, tortas & horchata :) I've heard rave reviews from friends, but I'm thinkin because of my taste buds that day if wasn't as enjoyable as I would have hoped. Pros: BIG portions! Very attentive waitstaff - ice tea & chips were refilled often. Free salsa & chips :) Cons: must purchase queso, the hostess blatantly rolled her eyes at us when seating us (we are a loud crowd, but still unacceptable), the water had an interesting after taste - at least for us from OKC ! I ordered a combination platter because I wanted the best of ALL worlds. The #6 : cheese tex mex enchilada, ground beef crispy taco, chicken chalupa. The enchilada & taco were nothing special to me, but the chicken chalupa was super tasty. The flavors were on point, the chicken was tender, & it was a messy eat - can prove to be rather eventful. One friend ordered the flauta dinner and the two others ordered the: Chuychanga & Steak burrito. Now those are what I call big portions - stick with those if you're super hungry! And the queso, although we had to pay for it, was more than enough to satisfy our group of 4. It wasn't watered down, either, which is typically the norm at most restaurants. Finally, we also ordered the tres leche cake that my friends swore by. I was delightfully surprised with the fluffy consistency and HUGE portion size. If anything works here, it's surely the big portions! I'd give this place a 3.5/5 but once again, don't have the function. The interior is kind of random. It's like Guy Fieri and Elvis decided to open a restaurant together. Palm trees... Diner looking chairs and booths. Not at all what I was expecting for a Tex Mex place, but it gave it character! I guess it has to set itself apart from it's neighbor- Ted's Escondido. The place was dead at 4pm on a Sunday. An hour goes by and the place was packed! I felt the menu had a wide variety of dishes. I split the Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken with their signature green chili special rice and beans. The outer crust of the chicken was coated with Lay's potato chips and lent a suttle crunchiness. It was different. I didn't care for the rice, but gave it a try because the man zone said it's real good. Queso is tasty. Salsa is very limey. Chips = thin and crispy. Being an Austinite, I had my doubts about this Austin based company showing Up in Noam, Oklahoma (home of the Longhorn hated Sooners). Was I ever wrong! Great food, amazing service (our waitress Kellie deserved more than the usual 20%) and an atmosphere of fun and relaxation. It tasted (and is) freshly made - not prepared for hours ahead of time. I had the Chuychanga and it was flavorful! The Mexican Martini is amazing too. Can't say enough about this place. It rocks. Look for the Elvis - they have one in every restaurant. Stop by for lunch while in the OKC area. We had one of these joints in Katy Texas and always loved it. Turns out they are the same and we loved this one too. We got a giant burrito with charro beans, rice and fajita beef covered in queso and it was awesome. The meat was delicious and not tough at all. The Decour in this restaurant is very festive and welcoming. After reviewing their menu I ordered their house specialty, chile Relleno and the cheese and enchiladas lunch plate. my husband ordered the lunch chimichanga plate. We were serve chips and salsa, no queso, queso is not complementary, but it is on the menu for seven dollars. My Anaheim chile Relleno was stuffed with tender tasty chicken and Monterey Jack cheese, with a very thick coating, very hard crusted, unlike any I've ever had before nor want. The Anaheim chile, chicken and cheese was good, but the hard crust ruined it for me. The Tomatillo sauce for the Relleno was very good. The rice was average, The refried beans were good, they had the taste of refried "canned Ranch" beans. Chimichanga was good, nothing special. Our margaritas over rocks was very good. I really wanted Ted's next door, but the wait was twice as long. That may have skewed how I enjoyed Chuys; it just wasn't as good. 1. Chips/Salsa set up: we had three people and they just brought us one small bowl of salsa. I asked for the set up where we each have our own bowls and the waiter seemed to act like I was crazy. No quest came with the standard set up or tortillas. 2. Entree: I split the combo fajitas with my boyfriend. The chicken and beef was cooked perfectly, but overall the food was pretty bland. I really like spicy food, and I wish you could pick a spice level at Mexican food places like you can at Thai places. I asked for jalepenos. The ones they brought me were basically like pickles with no heat. The food seemed good quality and fresh. The toppings for the fajitas were all really nice looking. But nothing was spiced well. Even the guacamole seemed to be just fresh mashed avocado with no seasoning. Please have the General Manager contact me regarding our unbelievably humiliating, horrific, & the most unnecessarily provoking experience I believe my family & I have ever had the displeasure of having...we've actually only had a few & I've only ever posted one before. I provided my business card & cell phone number to the Manger & understand she will be apprising the General Manager of the numerous incidents that occurred & the way my 15 year old son & wife were treated by Mary & later the short brunette waitress who was speaking to Mary at the cash register after we had paid for our meal & preparing to leave. The male server who waited on us was awesome. To be treated with disrespect, mocked, & receive looks & comments by the wait staff after this toxic waitress set out to make sure she clearly shared her distain for us with the other staff was sophomoric at best. We've eaten at Chuy's since the late 80's as we lived in Austin & have never had this kind of an experience!!! Stay tuned the saga continues - I will update my review tomorrow hopefully having my sunglasses & medication that was In my sunglasses case returned. I left them on the table & returned this morning to retrieve them only to learn the bartender Hunter ran after the table who left after us who also lodged a complaint & gave them to that man who gladly accepted my Ray Ban case & evidently said that he did have a pair like them...really...a tortoise shell ( the sunglasses are not Ray Bans - My glasses are Ray Bans...the sun glasses are unique in that they have a very different shade & have the clear bifocal line. You would immediately know they were not yours & oh' yeah, you didn't bring a Ray Ban case & leave it on your table because they're mine dude! Ordered online, checked in on arrival for curbside pickup. Waited more than 20 minutes, went inside. Had to go back when half the order was missing. I'm finally home, an hour after the order was supposed to be ready for pickup, and it's cold. Of course it's in a metal container so I'll have to scrape everything out into a plate to reheat it. Would give 0 stars if I could. This location is absolutely horrible it's sad. We are from TX and we love going to Chuys in fort worth. After moving to Norman I have given this location so many chances and today was the very last. I have been over 5 times and have never had a positive experience. The servers are absolutely the worst. It's like none of them have been trained whatsoever. They don't know how to do anything and act annoyed when we ask for things. We had to ask our waitress for everything including refills, napkins, plates, chips, everything. Our food took 45 minutes to come out and it was cold by the time it finally arrived. My friends ordered cheese quesadillas and there was probably 3 sprinkles of cheese on them the rest was peppers. The jalapeño ranch dip was definitely expired and tasted disgusting. Everything about this Chuys location is disappointing and unacceptable. I will never give one more cent to this Norman location. Save your time and go to Torchys instead! WAY better food and service! We went for our first time last evening and were -- simply put -- blown away by the high quality of the tasty food AND the incredible friendliness of the attentive staff. We both had chicken burritos with Hatch green chile sauce -- just INSANELY yummy. The salsa we started the meal with was a truly "fresca" salsa -- lots of lime. Very tangy. Exceptionally good. Chuy's keeps late hours, too -- at least by Okie standards. (They close at ten p.m. -- and that was PERFECT for us last night, as we loathe the idea of being "those guys" who show up at five until nine when a place closes down at nine p.m., ya know? I used to love this place but it has just gone downhill more and more. Started with slower and slower service, huge wait times because lack of staff (which I understand) but the management doesn't even care and it's obvious. No one asking if food is ok, no pre busing, 10 minutes to even be greeted and get a water, 15 minutes to wait for a check after eating, and now food is even getting awful. Every time I come to Chuys, I am impressed! The service is always superb, the food is delicious and the portions are huge. This time was no exception. Walked in and we instantly were greeted with a smile. After a short 10 minute wait, we were taken to our table and in less than 5 minutes we had our drinks, chips, salsa (my favorite) and an order of queso on the way. After ordering our food came quickly and yet our waitress was still checking up on us and making sure everything was correct. I love this place! read more

Woah, pleasantly surprised!! Went here Saturday night with friends and had a great dinner. I got the Elvis combo, husband got roasted pork enchiladas (weekends only) and we have the Rita's. The salsa was chunky, fresh and had a kick. Everything on my Elvis was delicious and so large you could easily share. My husband loved his roasted pork enchiladas, they were super flavorful and spicy! The lady manager was so friendly an on top of everything, walking around and checking on everyone. Recently re-discovered this restaurant. Absolutely the best enchiladas in town, they actually have a lot of flavor, as compared to an un-named mexican restaurant next door where the flavor is rather bland. The decor is nice and interesting, Chuys is actually bigger than you may think. The outside seating area is very nice, just wished there was a way to screen the I-35 highway noise somehow. Then she rolled eyes at us, looked back with rude looks and never checked on us. We had to flag someone down for silverware and again for ticket. We stopped here on the way to a bridal shower for a quick bite to eat. Our waitress was training a waiter, but they still got the food to us quickly. That is the positive part of my review. My daughter is allergic to cheese and told them NO CHEESE. Goes what was on her tacos? We were in a hurry, so she did not ask them to be remade. Chicken on the tacos was very dry and tasted like it was several days old. The lettuce was wilted and brown on the edges. The Spanish rice tasted like little plastic pellets. I told them NO HEAT on anything when I ordered my chili relleno. Jalapenos and their seeds were in the pico and it burned my stomach. Having had stomach surgery for cancer several years back, I cannot eat spicy food and this is the first Mexican restaurant that has ignored my request. They could have easily left off the pico. The booth was dirty and the seat on my side was sticky as if something had been spilled on it and not washed up. We are from the DFW area and enjoy eating at Christina's, and have only eaten at Chuy's one other time, about ten years ago. Don't worry, we won't wait ten years again.
