There's nothing better than hot and spicy Indian comfort food on a *cold* and rainy Vancouver day. My colleague - the lovely Anushka B - and I were down the street at a local coffee house plugging away at work when lunchtime tummy grumbles started to kick in. We had a handful of options within walking distance, but Cilantro Indian Cuisine stood out with their reviews and photos. We arrive just as they were opening and the aromas hit your nose as soon as you walk through the door - hunger strikes even harder, y'all. We quickly grabbed a booth, and were ready to order just about everything. Anushka opted for the chicken biryani - a heaping, tower-like serving of biryani in a bowl served with naan and yogurt. (see pics!) Note that you can order the biryani to your preferred level of spice. I loooove variety, so I ordered one of their lunch specials: the non-veg Thali, which was a choice of chicken (butter chicken, chicken curry, karahi chicken) plus choice of dal makhani or yellow dal, raita, a sweet (gulba jamen please!), salad, naan, and rice. Oh, and some dang good pickle! All that for $16.99. Their lunch special has seven varieties to choose from and is available 11:30am-4:30pm. They also have other specials - "meals for two" - that I bet could feed three or four people. The food was fantastic, as was the friendly service. As mentioned, my lunch special came with a small sweet (gulab jamun), and the server noted that he brought out an extra for my dining companion. I mean, so sweeeet. read more

A regular at this place too but I usually order takeout from there. This time, I went in for lunch. The space is pretty big and can fit a large group size! The owner is super friendly and also helped guide us through the menu. They have a special lunch time menu which is soooo affordable for the amount of food they give!! Usually thalis in Vancouver are minimum $25 but their lunch menu thalis are less than $20!! They have excellent vegetarian and meat options. I got their chicken biryani which comes with raita (flavoured yogurt) and really balances the meal out. The portions were so big, I had to take food to-go and had it for 2 meals after. They have a lot of drink options as well. Would recommend this place for a good Indian meal in Mt. Pleasant :) read more

The butter chicken and mushroom makhani dishes were great absolutely marveled by the taste. We decided for a vegetarian pakora for appy, was not disappointed by the mild tamarind type sauce. Everything was spiced well for a medium order for spice. The sides of naan and coconut rice is a must..and will equally impress My bud had the coconut lime cucumber mint, which was a good choice to cut the spice. Great service clean space...the music was a bit loud but we were right under the speaker when we sat ourselves..would recommend with 5stars read more

We had a wonderful dinner here while traveling in Vancouver. We all loved our meals - butter chicken, lamb Rogan josh, vegetable korma, chicken karahi- each delicious. The gentleman waiting on us was extremely nice and provided wonderful service. We also got the bread basket with a selection of naan and tandoori flat breads - yum! The portions were generous and we enjoyed the meal so much we woke up excited to eat it for breakfast the next morning. read more

Amazing butter chicken. Make sure you ask for less spice is you can't handle too spicy. Large serving. I had mine delivered with naan and rice. I had enough for lunch the next day. The sauce was thick, punch full of flavour and truly satisfying. I also ordered a dessert. It is the Ras Malai and it definitely hit the spot. read more

Really enjoyed the veggie korma, pakoras, and naan. This is mid tier Indian food in terms of price, but in terms of quality, it's definitely on the higher end of mid tier. The food was ok, portions were generous, and service was extremely kind. Our server was a total sweetheart and the chef came to chat with us after. We ordered extra spicy for everything but it was just medium. The Bhinda Masala was delicious while the Lamb Vindaloo was ok and the Rara Gosht was not good. All the meat was not particularly tender but still ok. The saffron mixed spice rice was particularly disappointing as it had no spices or flavour at all. It was taking a long time and we asked how much longer as all our curries had already arrived but without naan or rice! We had to ask for the naan and then when that arrived, ask how much longer for the rice. So perhaps they did not have time to develop the flavours and rushed the rice for us as the food was getting cold. read more

Ordered takeout and the food was tasty. We ordered the goat curry, eggplant bhartha, garlic naan, laccha parantha, and vegetable pakoras. The portions are quite generous. The pakoras were crisp and the dipping sauce paired well with it. The eggplant bhartha had a little bit of a kick. The laccha parantha is something I've wanted to try ever since I tried making it at home. It's made of whole wheat, so not as tender/fluffy as the naan. I thought it was pretty good, eaten with the curry. The goat curry was flavourful and the goat was tender. It easily fell off the bone. I would definitely order from here again. read more

Glad to see this new Indian restaurant in the 'hood. It was quite rainy last night so too lazy to walk over and instead ordered on Ubereats. I ordered butter chicken, prawn korma and garlic basil naan. Rice is free when you order two entrees . If you pick up you get 15% off so am going to do that next time. The butter chicken was smooth, creamy and flavourful. The prawn korma was great and had a different flavour profile. I find a lot of Indian restaurants in town use the same sauce on every dish and just call it something else on the menu but they all tend to taste the same. Cilantro had different and flavourful sauces. Their garlic basil naan was really good and lots of garlic which I love. Can't wait to order more dishes from here and the price point is reasonable. An absolute delight and very much worth going to! We had the tandoori pomfret and coconut curry with lamb--the pomfret was some of the best fish I have EVER had. Always clean & bright! Staffer Amrit was so friendly & kind. Even though she was in the middle of serving a 12 person (company party) table! Food comes fairly quickly when you order Lunch Set! Or Thali! The salad was beautiful, colourful, fresh and crispy - the way I like it! I enjoyed the Butter Chicken and Dal Makhani a lot! Creamy , flavourful & rich, but not heavy! Will come back! Tried two different curries and both came good. Must try Palak Goat curry and garlic naan. One of the best quality food in the area.

One of the best meals I've had in my visit to the city so far. We got the butter paneer and dal tadka - and the paneer was fresh and perfectly made. The butter naans were what sold us though - they were so nice and fluffy! The owner was really friendly and we had a good conversation with them when we complimented the food :) definitely worth a visit if you're in the area! read more

I rarely write reviews but I really want to support these guys. I get take out from here whenever I can and it never disappoints. Everything has been delicious so far. Great value as well. I've tried mostly their curry dishes (5-6 different ones at this point) and the portions are always decent. Super sweet mom-and-pop restaurant and I think they deserves all the love they can get. If you're not a "cilantro" fan, don't let the name scare you away! LOL! I've recommended them to several friends already. read more

We ordered out here and we were so impressed, this delicious Indian restaurant will be one we keep first on our list! The price was very reasonable for the large sized portions and the food was absolutely amazingly delicious!! Just the perfect seasoning! We ordered samosas, palek paneer, butter chicken, rice pilaf and Naan bread. Only $50 total. Oh my goodness! Can't wait to taste this delicious food again! 5 stars!! read more
