I came here on Saturday night with a large group of over 20. Service was good. Good came fast at first. A little slower later for the last part of our group but within reason. Food was excellent. My wife, who is very critical of restaurants had nothing but excellent things to say about the food. The servers were very nice and polite. I didn't see any messed up orders. When we looked down the table of 20 or so all plates were cleaned off. Very little food was left. So everyone enjoyed it. Some of the plates the group ordered were, Chicken fried steak Hot cakes Chocolate chip hot cakes, Grilled chicken burger Grilled chicken salad Grilled cheese sandwich Soup of the day, I think it was a Mexican dish with chicken. We frequent Cindy's. Overall we like it. They have a good selection on their menu. Breakfast, sammiches, soups, salads, burgers,Mexican food and a good selection of desert. Food quality is decent. Pepsi products. We did have taco salads the other day and my wife and I both were not impressed. Very little flavor. Their chili Verde is very good. My Son loves their super burrito. Chicken and dumpling and beef and barley soups are good. I haven't tried any others yet. We get the Fried zucchini appetizer just about every time we go. This place is a throw back! I used to come to this diner as kid with my dad in the mornings. Our family would eat here often... we could have our choice of greasy diner fare or some mexican grub from the cooks in the back. We were always greeted the warm smile of Luz. She was a petite mexican lady with large hair coiffed into the perfect sphere-like shape. Something a bee may mistake for a home. She was the best when I was a kid and always gave me a lollipop after breakfast. How great is that? I always picked purple or green. I have been in Cindy's recently too. Still the same decor from 25 years ago... and Luz. She is still there. With the same hair and smile. She remembered me. That's pretty amazing. Just like their breakfast deals. You can get a pretty large breakfast here for cheap. Use some biscuits and gravy to sop up a hang over. Try the huevos rancheros too. Yum. Do beware, this is kind of a twilight zone experience... with the old decor, faux plants, the old patrons and oakdale locals make it interesting. Don't let the door hit you on the way in... you'll see what I mean. Unless they've decided to fix it after 30 years. read more

Yesterday I went to Cindy's the first time to celebrate my and my aunts birthday. I arrived earlier then my party as I went in the sign says please wait to be seated. I waited and waited then felt awkward so I sat myself at a corner table. You know plenty of room to enjoy not only the company but the food. I hate being crammed in a tight spot with no table room to enjoy. As I just sat down at the table the hostess told me I can't sit there. I looked confused and asked why? She said it's reserved for 6 or more people. I had 4 in my party She insisted that I sit at this other table. And left I'm offended that I had to sot myself and the table I chose wasn't good enough for the establishment. My money first time visiting celebrating our birthdays if I was the only one in my party I would have left. I don't give my hard earned money to an establishment I don't like to do business with. I love this place. This is the epitome of a good old fashioned hometown restaurant. They make basic things well and even add a little something extra. The chili verde omelette is my favorite thing. Hands down one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. You can substitute out the rice and beans if you want for hashbrowns (how I do it) and it is just a great meal. My wife loves the chile relleno omelette. It is not on the menu but we got a tip about one time and she swears by it. My often then not one or both of the owners are working there. I have tried to like this place. Then tried again. You can't go wrong with banana bread, right? Wrong! The last straw was when there was meat in my cousins side dish of vegetables. Meat. When pointed out, the server offered some sort of vegetables cooked in meat explanation. I will say, they get 2 stars (and higher) for their seasonal pumpkin cheesecake; it is delicious! Cindy's Restaurant - American Near Me - Oakdale, California

I actually grew up with a Cindy's Restaurant in my hometown of Davis: been there many, many times and knew this as a reliable greasy spoon with some of the best light and fluffy pancakes around. The other dishes weren't too bad. Out here in Oakdale, on the way back from Yosemite, turns out this Cindy's has Mexican food. Had to ask the friendly waitress which to order --the fried chicken or the chile verde. I had the latter and it was pretty good. Not too spicy, of course, since this is a family type joint, but the dish really wasn't bad. Tender chunks of pork in a green tomatillo sauce, served with cheesy beans and rice, served with a couple of tortillas. My friend was extremely pleased with the french toast, scrambled eggs and bacon ---all served after 8 pm! Sure! Why not? The only real disappointment was the slice of peach pie I took with me. I'm glad I waited a while to eat it because 1) it was ice cold; 2) it was still kinda gummy cool when I bit into it; 3) the filling had this odd gel-like consistency like it's been around a while. I don't remember Cindy's being necessarily big on pies but I'll know better next time. All in all, probably not a bad place for a bite if you're hungry from a Yosemite trip read more

Below average. Ordered the Santa Barbara burger. The meat patty was black, and hard, and very dry. It was also significantly smaller than the bun. Cheese wasn't melted either. It came with fries. Some of which were so completely deep fried that they crumbled. Not a lot of choices in Oakdale that isn't fast food, but even so, I am very very unlikely to ever go back. The service was also quite slow, but the place was very packed. Everyone was eating breakfast food, so maybe their breakfast is better. I'm not willing to try. read more

I stopped here on my way home for breakfast and when I went in , it had a very nice ambiance. Everyone seemed to get along very well, from the customers to the works. I was greeted with a smile at the door and taken to my seat. I couldn't choose between Mexican or American food so I had the Mexican food. I asked what the best selling dish was and she told me the Machaca Omelette so I ordered it. First off the plate looked so scrumptious And we'll put together that I didn't want to ruin it! And when I took my first bite it felt like a piece of heaven! It was so delicious! Everything tasted so fresh and everything here is home made! Went here for dinner the other night. I'm not sure what has changed--if anything-- except the menu since the last time I was here. But, there was a new, to me, little box on the menu called Poquito. There were 2 items in the box. Cheese quesadilla and something else...can't remember what. I ordered the quesadilla. It is cheese with Ortega chiles. Oh my gravy! It was excellent. Sounds crazy to get so excited about a cheese quesadilla but this was just 'right'. Jack cheese...no yellow cheese anywhere in sight...with a scoop of sour cream and guacamole, respectively on top. Not impressed. Will not bring my family here again. Not busy and messed up everybody's order down to what kind of bread everybody ordered. They use low quality foods--toast is cheap, they provide margarine vs butter. I ordered an oatmeal which was underwhelming. We took Grandma in Law to breakfast here this morning so this review is hot off the press. We were hesitant at first since it is a chain and we wanted to go to a more local spot that was family owned. Grandma insisted that Cindy's was the spot and since it was her birthday of course she got to call the shots. The inside looks very similar to a Denny's or Ihop but with a more flowery and homey motif. They had a white board right up front with specials that caught my eye, especially the bacon and sausage omelet, which I ended up ordering. The coolest thing about this place is they they also offer Mexican breakfast options which definitely sets them apart from the two bigger chains mentioned above. My husband ordered some kind of chorizo egg scramble which was damn good. I wasn't too jealous though because my omelet was not too shabby either. As far as the food went we were impressed thus far. So, Larimie G. mentioned her beloved Luz who happened to be our waitress this morning as well. She seems to run the joint and had the other younger waitresses at her beck and call. She was definitely on top of it because she was serving every table in our section with ease and the place was jam packed. However, I asked her for water once and she forgot. I asked her for water twice and she forgot again. I asked her the third time and it was indeed the charm since I finally got my water. This wouldn't have been a big deal if I hadn't drowned my omelet in Tabasco and didn't have a tongue that was blistering up. The whole waiting for water experience just was not a good one in that situation. Luz seems like a wonderful lady, but I needed that water really badly, and I was getting so antsy each time she walked by us sans ice cold water! Nonetheless, I will still give them 4 stars and chalk it up to a busy Sunday morning. Since the food was so good and Luz gave me such a warm goodbye, I am willing to forgive and forget. read more

Great Mexican-American food and the friendliest servers in Oakdale! The pumpkin cheesecake was delicious. The only disappointment was missing out on the special because we arrived later than most. Oh, the folks at next table extolling the virtues of our POTUS and making fun of Dr. Ford was nauseating, but even Cindy's can't be perfect. Maybe when they realize that the tax cuts really only helped the billionaires and that Kavanaugh isn't their friend, all will be perfect. Such is karma. read more
