Great Mexican-American food and the friendliest servers in Oakdale! The pumpkin cheesecake was delicious. The only disappointment was missing out on the special because we arrived later than most. Oh, the folks at next table extolling the virtues of our POTUS and making fun of Dr. Ford was nauseating, but even Cindy's can't be perfect. We stopped this morning for Sunday breakfast and we were very excited to try it. After all it had been 20 years since we had eaten there. The disappointment was huge. We never send food back but this morning we thought about it. The chicken fried steak tasted like something out of the freezer and the gravy was definitely from a powder. The potatoes were cold and there was a long Curley hair on my toast. We paid and tipped 20% even though the service was extremely slow. However, we will not be back. read more

To begin with I don't understand how this place had 4 stars it needs none, horrible customer service very rude & unwelcoming. I asked for the manager & the owner came by instead and it got worse I thought the employees were already bad as it was well the owner was ten times worse! Looked like she was on something talking to me like i was her child while "petting" my hair and my childrens ridicoulous keep your hands too yourself please don't touch me or my kids! They will treat your kids very rudely here this is the reason why I asked for a manager. Crappy food, employees and managers look like there on something it's horrible whatever you do don't make the bad decision I made and come here! If you like bad food, bad customer service go for it but I'll personally never be going back first time and last time ever. Hope this place gets shut down soon read more

They have one of the best breakfast menus in town, and their combination of American and Mexican foods means there's something for everyone. Ordered a Mexican omelette on the recommendation of the hostess, and it was mediocre. Tortillas were run of the mill store-bought tortillas, salsa was nothing special (most likely from a 1-gallon jar purchased at Costco). The appetizer platter was also mediocre. Coming back from a 15 mile hike in Yosemite, close to 10pm my friend and I were famished. We came to Cindy's in desperate need of good but ended up being delightful. Certainly above average diner food, extensive menu and promptly service! Tea selection was good too. Defiantly way better choice than any those terrible fast food chaos along the way. read more

Our server was super nice and patient. We were a bit indecisive about what we were ordering and took longer. Was told, long after we ordered, that they were out of mozzarella sticks which was part of the "sampler" plate that I ordered. So I opted for extra chicken strips. Food took awhile and when it came finally, food was cold. Especially the french fries. And the extra chicken strips that were offered as a substitute on sampler platter came even later, but were hotter than original strips! I've been here many times and have never been too impressed, but this meal was incredible disappointing. I ordered the huevos rancheros and it was a strange and terrible dish. Overcooked eggs, chili beans (for some reason), canned ranchero sauce, dry beans, and bad rice. I ordered it with eggs over easy and with whole beans. The menu said that it came with chili beans, which confused me because huevos rancheros has become something I order every time it's on a menu and chili beans is simply not something that goes with it. So I ordered it with whole beans instead. The eggs that I ordered over easy were cooked over hard. There was absolutely no runny yolk and the whites were so rubbery that it was borderline inedible. For a diner that's been around for as long as Cindy's, they should know how to fry an egg... It took me a few bites to figure out what the strange flavor was, until I realized that it was the chili beans that I asked to substitute! I'm sure chili beans and eggs are really good together, but chili beans and ranchero sauce are NOT good together. The whole beans that I got on the side were so dry. It looked and tasted like they made them last week and kept reheating them in the microwave. The rice was also sweet for some reason and also pretty dry. I know they're a Mexican-American restaurant, but putting chili beans on huevos rancheros is one of the worst things I've ever heard of and it definitely was one of the worst meals I've ever eaten. The service was not great. We walked in and didn't know if we were supposed to wait to be seated or seat ourselves. We stood there for what felt like an uncomfortable amount of time while FOUR waitresses all just stared at us. No one said hello or said they'd be right with us. They just stared right at us and said nothing after we said hello. We figured it was "seat yourself" so we started walking to a table and then a waitress came and took us to a table. The waitress was quick to take our orders, but that's where the good service started and ended. While checking on everyone else around us, she never checked on us once. We asked for ketchup (for my sister's fries) when she brought our meals, but never got it, we were only offered more water as we were sliding out of our booth to leave, we finished our meals and waited almost fifteen minutes for our waitress to ask if we needed the check, and then she never brought it! After almost ten minutes of waiting for the check we went to the register and another waitress had to find our waitress, who then had to look for our check because she misplaced it. This is the last time I'll be eating at Cindy's. I hear the pies are good, but if that's coming from someone who actually enjoys this restaurant, I would proceed with caution... read more

We love Cindy's! Not only is the food great, but so is their personal service. Most of the waitresses know us and our children by name, they know where we like to sit when we dine and even remember our usual drink choices. It's a great place to take kids especially since kids eat free Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. Our kids love to eat at Cindy's, they especially love Maria. She always goes the extra mile to give the kids a hug or a little extra candy treat after our meal. If there was an option for zero stars, I'd choose that...I'm glad other people were happy with their meals and service, because my family and I were not!! We waited for 20 minutes, for our drinks to be refilled and a total of 40 minutes for our food and by then, it was cold. Look all rstaurants have off days, I've been reading some of the less than flattering posts here on Cindys, My family and I have been going to Cindys for 20 yrs, and yes Luz is one of the warmest genuinely caring people you'll ever meet...We get good satisfying meals here ALMOST 100% of the time, there have been some bad days here, but when you consider the bussy pace being right on Hwy 120 they're bound to have some off days, Luz can't work them all lol... All I can say to the nay sayers is come on back during a less busy time, Maybe a lazy Wednesday afternoon? try the Huevos ranchero with a side of crisp bacon, try the fried shrimp dinners, try just about any Mex dinners... and oh yes top it off with deliciuos homemade Apple pie ala mode, ask for a pie out of the kitchen, they actually did this for me! Cindy's is great, mom n pop food,and if you're lucky you'll meet Luz, the real deal when it comes to waitressing... Im definitely a customer for the next twenty yrs!!!! My husband & I went there on our trip. We hadn't eaten breakfast yet, and my husband was craving eggs. They cooked his eggs and country spuds right, so he was satisfied. I ordered the special, which that day, was the omelet with pepperJack and hashbrowns on the side. They gave me the wrong omelet! The one they gave me made me even wonder if they knew what they were doing! They gave me a similar one that had Swiss cheese, and mushrooms! It only had the mushrooms inside, and there was another just like it right on top of it! The cheese wasn't even inside the omelet, it was on top! The hashbrowns they gave me were basically mashed potatoes with a enough shredded potatoes on top to cover it and make the top crisp! Both of the items on my plate tasted similar too each other, and were extremely tasteless! Next time, I think I'll have a breakfast burrito from Taco Bell or something! If you're a vegetarian, don't go here. I asked two people if there was any meat in the corn chowder, just in case, and they both told me no. The waitress brings me the soup and I find huge pieces of bacon in it even though I had just asked if there was meat in it, even after I told her I was vegetarian. So she says the cooks can make me a vegetable soup to which I agreed. She brings the vegetable soup and it's made with chicken broth. So I explain to her again that I'm vegetarian and can't eat the soup. She argues with me and tells me there's no meat in it, just a meat broth. I told her I wouldn't pay for it and she asks if I want to take the soup home; like it's going to magically turn into vegetable broth on the way back. After staring at her for a moment, completely bewildered, I tell her no and she tells me the cooks tried, and takes the soup back. I watched her hand the soup back to the cooks and see them laughing about it. They were obviously trying to pass the soup off as vegetarian even though they knew the broth was chicken product.
