This place is under new management and it's definitely not the same place that it used to be. The person who brought out my food didn't have the hash browns on the plate. When I asked where they were he stated the my waitress didn't write them on the ticket. I informed him that she shouldn't have to because the dish I ordered automatically comes with hash browns. Food was mediocre. Our table got the chicken fried steak, enchilada and tamale plate, and smothered steak plate. The good part of the meal was that it was a good amount of food. The bad part was that the smothered steak and coleslaw had to be swapped out for the enchilada plate because the smothered steak tasted like it was a frozen patty and the slaw nasty. Walking into this restaurant it's like taking a step back in time. The seats along the counter to eat the booths along with the tables. It's all well kept! We were seated as soon as we walked in. They even have things to buy with their name on it like mugs and shirts. The menu isn't huge so that was nice not having to flip through pages and pages trying to make up my mind. I got their fried chicken tenders with country gravy. If you want home cooked chicken tenders this is the place to go. Not overly breaded and you can tell they cut the chicken into tenders. I also had fries and a side salad. I'm a huge Ranch person and the Ranch tastes as though it's homemade as well!! Huge points there from me! The Waitress was very nice and on top of her game. I never saw the bottom of my ice tea. By listening to the conversations around me I could tell the Wait Staff had regulars and really cared about their customers! This our 1st time here. The atmosphere is great. It's a diner style restaurant. April our waitress was extraordinary. She was kind and knowledgable. She gave her recommendations. Service was attentive and great. Coffee was great. I ordered a spinach mushroom Swiss omelette with hash browns and biscuits and gravy. Omelette tasted great with extra cheese which I love! The biscuits were fluffy and the gravy was divine. The hash browns were overcooked, too crispy for my preference. My husband ordered a chicken fried steak with pinto beans and green beans as a side and a cornbread and roll. The steak was amazing! Very juice chicken paired with the gravy was like heaven in my mouth. Lol However I think heaven might be better lol green beans had good flavor and the beans were ok. The cornbread and roll were tasty and fluffy. My husband also ordered the coconut creme pie which he devoured. I'm not of fan of coconut but he really enjoyed the dessert. Overall I highly recommend you check this place out. There are mostly older folk here but it's comfy quiet place to have some nice lunch. read more

Really good lunch on New Year's Eve. There were 10 of us. We had a variety of orders: chicken fried steak, chopped steak, salads, omelette, etc. Everyone enjoyed their food. I had kernel corn and black eyed peas, both tasted like they were out of a can. Very extensive menu as would be typical of a diner. Service was a bit slow, but not a problem. Waitress (Gloria) was wonderful. Very personable. Very attentive. We called ahead and made a reservation and they were ready for us when we arrived. Give them a try! read more

I've been coming to CG for many, many years. In the beginning this was the best place to get chicken fried steak a long time ago. To me and many others, that is not true anymore. It's always tough and need a steak knife to cut thru all the gristle. The black eyed peas always seem like they have been reheated several times from the past few days thus their texture is tough. The above 2 items have been that way every time. The other items on the menu I've tried are good though. We went here Sunday for brunch. We were weary of it because it looked a little on the trashy side from the outside, and the neighborhood isn't exactly awesome. However, we were pleasantly surprised. The food was amazing. Not healthy, but amazingly good. My husband had the fried chicken which apparently was so good it caused him to say that this was his new "chicken spot". Do they even deserve one star? What has happened to this place? We are here now, and we are very disappointed. We ordered the pork schnitzel, we even asked the waiter beforehand if he knew the difference between pork chops and pork schnitzel. He said yes, the schnitzel is pounded out real thin. So we placed our order, there were 4 of us, we ordered 3 schnitzels and one pork chop. Good thing I had the menu memorized since he took our order as soon as I sat down. What happened next is unbelievable. It's almost like a poorly written sitcom. Our fine waiter, I think his name is Ceasar, brings out 4 plates of pork chops. Two of us know their chops suck, from previous experiences. So we tell him, these are pork chops! He says sorry we were out of schnitzel. We tell him we don't want them. Why didn't he tell us that beforehand. Like, hey! We are out of this so you want to order something else? Instead of, oh, they won't notice. So he picks up our pork chops and makes the comment, I won't charge you for this, just charging you for the vegetables, duh, we have waited all week for this overpriced experience, and you brought us the wrong thing, but we only have to pay for the veggies? At that point, we told him just take the cold veggies back, too. We had ordered green beans, they were mixed with stewed tomatoes. Who does that? It looked like they had opened a can of green beans and a can of tomatoes, mixed together. Not a tasty combo. Served cold, with attitude! Our dear sister and granny ate part of theirs, they were hungry and overly polite. Granny said she used to eat breakfast there, years ago, but didn't go there any more because the food wasn't good. Our waiter came back, what a smart ass, he asked if we were ready to order desert. We just wanted the checks. He said he wouldn't charge my sis and I for our drinks. That's good, since granny and other sister paid dearly for their chops. $10.85 plus $1.95 for tea. Plus tax and tip. I told the gentleman in the plaid shirt on the way out, just FYI, here's what happened....he said, "you're wrong, they were schnitzels, I saw them, our pork chops are like this (pinches fingers together about inch and a half), our schnitzels are like this (pinches fingers about an inch)". Us, hungry and exasperated, leave. Granny says, if yours was schnitzel, what was mine? They were all the same! Later, when we got home, I called to express my displeasure, asked to speak to a manager, and the guy on the phone told me he is the manager and he was the one we dealt with in the restaurant. He said we were wrong. I told him we just will not be back. These people have zero customer service, they are tired and burned out. I have never seen this clown behind the counter and I've been going here all my life. They are incredibly rude and overpriced. They are coasting by on the warm and fuzzy experiences we've had in the past. Food is overpriced, over salted, bland except for the salt. Customer service is zero. They couldn't care less about you or your hard earned money or your family outing or your hunger pangs. This is a sentimental journey that we won't be taking, ever again, at least I'm thankful we didn't get wire in our food. read more

Oh retro diners, I love you. This one is its own unique slice of vintage. Clean, quaint, and tasty. Service is sincere and affable, and will keep your coffee filled with a smile. We came here on a Facebook recommendation from one of my favorite coupled friends, and decided to follow in their foot steps a couple hours later. We received a copy of the lunch menu when we sat down because it was around noon, but were quickly whisked the breakfast menu upon requests. Lots of options and plates to choose from for both lunch and dinner. Between the two of us, we had a large spread of breakfast tasties. The husband, who is the more adventurous, took a stab at the Old Timer breakfast, which was fried calf liver. I tried and it was the most disgusting thing that I have ever put in my mouth. But, he is still raving about how tasty it was. In spite of the over abundance of food that we ordered, I had to try a cinnamon roll, because, it is a cinnamon roll. Holy sweet cinnamony balanced goodness. It is one of the best I've had in ages. We were told that they serve dinner on the weekends, and the owner makes some of the best off the menu specials. Definitely peaked our interest to come back for more than just one of the best breakfasts I've had in the East Dallas in awhile. Circle Grill, I will be back for more retro tasty. read more

We eat there regularly, however today we were there and were VERY disappointed. We ordered our food and waited and waited and WAITED. People around us came in order and got the food before we got our food, some of them even had time to eat and LEAVE before we got our food. We asked a couple of the waitress to check on our food and they said be patient we are very busy. We finally did get our food however the gravy was COLD and hashbrowns undercooked. When the cashier asked how everything was we explained our experience and her comment (with attitude) was 'That's too bad but we are very busy and doing the best we can'. Love this place for the great and friendly service they provide and the wonderful dishes they prepare and serve. My husband and I are regulars. We've been going to Circle for the past ten years. It's kind of nostalgic in its presentation and brings back memories of the ole fashion diners of yesteryear (smile). My favorite dishes are the Rancero Omelet with Rancero sauce on the side. I usually add bacon and jalapenos to my omelet. You talk about tasty!! I've also tried the pinto beans and chili sauce (really good) over their Cheese enchiladas. I'm talking hmmmmm good. Their burgers are also worth mentioning especailly with their homemade potato chips!! I go at least once per week sometimes two or three. I had breakfast today and on my way for a Greek Food Special tonight made by the owners daughter. Yes Greeks! We know they know Diners. It is an institution in East Dallas for 50 years. Home Style at it's best. My Boyfriend and I are on a first name basis with many of the staff and the owners as well. There are plenty of other Gay couples who frequent this place along with families and the older folks who have been here forever. We are treated downright special by the staff and even know a few of the other regulars, many by sight and some by name. It is home to us. read more

I've been going to the Circle Grill for ages and if I only reviewed the food and the wait staff I would have to give this restaurant 4 or 5 stars since they are all excellent but they aren't giving it away for free so price has to be taken into consideration as well. I am still in shock after ordering a waffle, 1 egg (scrambled), 4 pieces of bacon and a glass of chocolate milk and getting a bill for $19.11, tax included. You read that right. There are a number of other family friendly restaurants in east Dallas that would charge $5 or $6 less for the same meal and I'm afraid that they will be getting my business in the future. read more

Great place for breakfast, lunch and when they are open for it --- dinner as well! I usually go there for breakfast and they really do know how to whip up traditional American breakfasts. They're waitresses all seem to have been there for awhile and they really are efficient but friendly at the same time.
