I found this place here on Yelp. It is less than 4 miles from my house and would have never stopped to try it, if I had not read the reviews. Let me start by saying I was overly impressed with the service we received from Ceaser. He was amazing drinks stayed full, he made sure not to place hot plates, drinks etc if front of my 10 month old. Most places just throw the plates down and don't care. The food was beyond great. I ordered waffles, bacon and hash browns all cooked to perfection. Then my husband ordered Migas with Chorizzo and gave me a bite..... Wow ...so much flavor. He even said it beats his grandmothers cooking..... This is our new breakfast spot. The review I read about no butter below is incorrect. I even received a cup of butter with my waffle, and there was land o lake butter on the table. read more

Circle Grill is a classic diner. I found the place based on a recommendation from my parents who ate here 20 years ago. They serve Southern classics and most of the servers look like your grandmother. I've only been here for breakfast, the breakfast is so good I haven't been able to make it for lunch. The menu is breakfast classics with a few atypical options. They have the usual eggs, omlettes, biscuits, and pancakes. They also have migas, breakfast burritos, and egg scrambles. There are two main reasons to come here: the biscuits and gravy are so tender they melt in your mouth and chicken fried streak for breakfast with a side if biscuits. What more do you need? The restaurant itself is a little scary on the outside and dated on the inside. But, it is clean and the staff is very friendly. Please don't be turned off by the exterior or location, this place feels like your grandmother's kitchen. read more

My friend said, "Let's go to this East Dallas place that's popular with 'grey hairs'" and this is where we went. [Is this still East Dallas?] I had a blast! I had the breakfast skillet ... a heart attack in a bowl. Hash browns, ham, sausage, bacon, cheese, eggs (over easy) AND two biscuits & gravy. Trust me: I took half home for work the next day. My friend said the waitresses are "parodies of themselves". Well, if loudly interacting with their customers/regulars and calling them "Babe" is a parody, then so be it. I even heard one of them asking one of her regulars if she had taken her meds. How sweet! Circle grill is not what I enjoyed previously. Amy last visit was a couple of years ago, when someone, from my past, started an argument, and then assaulted me, right in the restaurant. I warned him that I keep my personal protection on me at all times and he persisted. He repeatedly came back and forth to my table, and then staff did nothing! he started saying that I threatened bis life. This was typical of this drama queen! you wouldn't have needed to use my friend on him, , but find making others aware that I don't play high school games, is much more beneficial than arguments with irrational idiots. once he and his ex left together, I lad for what they had ordered, and tipped the waitress heavily, while explaining the history of the situation. a I wen in for a meal a few days later and was attacked verbally by the waitress I had dearly loved and she absolutely threatened my life, between the f. bombs, and g.d. this and that. I told my husband it was time to leave, said goodbye to the staff x and paid NY bill. I would say that this was the worst handling of a situation I have ever before involved in, and I am almost 49! Just passing through and found good ratings on Yelp. I love little known non-chain restaurants. This place was right off the interstate but decades back in time. It was a quaint old time American diner. I ordered the ribs and they were fall off the bone delicious as we're the pinto beans & country green beans. My husband ordered the creole meatloaf and he thought it was just ok. We had a friend with us that ordered the catfish which came with fries. His catfish was over fried and tasted like maybe it was old or freezer burned. He reported this to the waitress & the catfish was taken off the bill, but we were charged for the fries (weird). We each ordered chocolate cream pie & it was great with a cup of coffee. The waitress we had was very sweet and attentive. Would recommend for a quick stop off the highway but wouldn't go out of my way. read more

As far as diners goes this is as good as you could hope it to be! My husband and I both got the Fried half chicken and it was perfectly seasoned. The French Fries and hashbrowns that I picked to go with mine were awesome. Mu husband and I both thought that the hashbrowns were the best we had ever had! My husband got coleslaw with is dinner and thought that it was wonderful as well. The service here was very friendly and accomodating. Whoa- step back in time! The Circle Grill remains as it was decades ago. The day we went for lunch (horrors!) they ran out of mashed potatoes! Not sure how that could happen. The chicken fried steak was huge and good, green beans were tasty. They subbed a baked potato but apparently were rushing them and it was a bit hard inside. Decor is outdated but that doesn't bother me I'm there for food not for interior designing ideas. :) Food- I ordered the farmland skillet. It was soooo good. Yummy food. Well prepared and fresh. I'll be back. I'd have given 5 stars but my waitress was not very nice. There was a large line at the front and the hostess was seating people and taking payments so it wasn't moving. Not a problem as everyone was obviously working hard. A waitress cane by and told me to just go find an empty table somewhere. Not a fan of that but I pointed to a booth that had dishes sitting in it and she said that was fine. Then the waitress cane by and announced that I shouldn't be sitting there before it had been cleaned. I told her the front had sent me here. She repeated that I shouldn't sit before it was cleaned. I was rather pointedly ignored after that. She was SO nice to the tables around me that I actually had a less than satisfying experience. read more

This place is horrible! Not everything is expensive, customer service sucks! I ordered Egg white bacon omelette with wheat toast, no butter to go. I got ham, sausage, and bacon omelette instead (I hate ham and sausage). I called them to let them know that the order wasn't right and there was no toast either. They told me that they'll give me a discount on my next visit. My whole order was wrong! What's a discount going to do for me? It's only enough to pay for my gas. The lady (supposed to be one of the managers) told me that I told them no bread. I told her, "No, I said wheat toast no butter. That was exactly what I said." The Circle Grill is a Sweet Eat spot that's been around for as long as I can remember. My grandfather eats there daily and I go several times a month. The food is quite good overall, but the breakfast with biscuits & gravy are awesome and you get 3/4 inch thick pancakes WoW! The pies are made fresh daily and resemble my Moms homemade " For Real" ! The wait staff is similar to the old Grandy's grandmother types. All of the dishes are good but no place is perfect that's why they make ketchup, right?. They could add "Sweet" sweet tea to the mix that would be very nice. Everything is plentiful like portions, condiments, etc... The customer base is a loyal 55 and up crowd that's racially diverse. Let's see what am I forgetting? Oh, the veggies are fresh especially the sliced tomatoes and overall I think the place Rocks! The price is in line with any greasy spoon you'll find. PS... (Sharon) is the best waitress I've ever seen excluding of coarse my own Grandmother on any given day. What I mean is eat there twice and she'll know exactly how you like your oatmeal ie.. with raisins, brown sugar, butter Yummy and grilled butter biscuits oooooh Stop it. Up until a month ago I went 4 times a week. The food has gotten progressively worse. Under cooked eggs, cold ham, hard, old , nasty hashbrowns, cold, dry, hard, toast. After 5 substandard visits with the exact same issues, I quit! Not going to spend another $5000 there this year! Their kitchen needs some serious help. I have eaten here a few times for breakfast and it has always been good and the staff is very friendly, so I decided to take my friend and his 80+ year old grandma there for a nice dinner. I ordered the veal cutlet and and about halfway through eating it, there was a sharp pain, stabbing in my upper throat...I hacked up a piece of WIRE about a 1/4 to half inch long, brought tears to my eyes.... I showed the waitress and she took it to the kitchen and came back and jokingly said, "oh yeah this is from the wire brush that they clean the grill with!!!, don't worry we will only charge you half the price of your entree." I WAS SHOCKED that she was serious about that. The owner did not even come to apologize or see if I was ok. I did not want to make a scene since we had grandma out for a special dinner, so I kept quiet. Even when I checked out at the register the owner did not speak of the event. Another old school diner in Dallas. There are many more of these places than I ever realized having grown up here. These old school places serving simple high calorie food are Americana treasures like dive bars. This place has been around since the 50s. The Circle Grill clearly been redone in the last decade or so as there is very little of that dirty, greasy spoon feel here. The place is covered in carpet, has a million overhead fans and feels somewhat old fashioned but not old. The prices are good and the place is most certainly not upscale but feels more like what I would call breakfast restaurant and not a greasy spoon or a diner. Adding to this feeling is the fact that this place is very big, much bigger than other such establishments. There is one enormous dining room with a large counter and one smaller side dining room as well. This is not what I expected but I liked what I got anyway. The older crowd and general nonthreatening ambiance reminded me of Chubby's in Gaeland or scaled down version of Benedict's in Addison. The food was what you would expect, good basic and inexpensive. I ad the sawmill breakfast (biscuits and gravy with eggs) and everything was pretty good. None of the items blue me away but at the end I had no complaints. Service was good, if anything my coffee was filled up too often. I can't remember when I had that problem. The menu offered not only home cooking but also Mexican oriented breakfasts, some fruit waffles, Benedict's etc. One note. You must pay at the counter and one cash register is for cash only and the other for card only. If there is anything bad to say about this place is that it should have more personality for a place its age. other than the signs and what it says on the menu if you wondered into this place you would have no clue it was old school. There were little if any decorations pointing to past decades or anything meant to share the history of the place with the customers. read more

I got a scrambled eggs, hash browns, toast and orange juice and paid almost $15. the worst part was the customer service and not to mention the food came out cold. imagine cold eggs!!! at the cashier they were upset and fraustrated because i couldnt wait 30 more minutes to give me my ticket. Skillet breakfast and #2 breakfast with bacon, eggs, grits and pancakes are winners! Not too many substitution options available but the servers are nice. Be prepared for cafe set up with a whole bunch of elders staring you up side the head, but overall great place to dine read more

I have been coming her for about 45 years. Things have changed over the years, owners, managers, waitress and food quality. I recently was invited for dinner by a friend because of new owners. I am so glad a gave it another try. The new owners and managers are great at making you feel welcome, and care that you receive the freshest and tastiest food possible. Breakfast you can't go wrong, open faced roast beef is great, salads, grilled chicken, sautéed veggies and I could go on... Don't forget desert. Just trying out new restaurant, the food here is not that great, I dint see a difference it felt like i was eating TV dinner, we'll I paid for premium food but got something I can just buy at the same Walmart for a fraction of the price =/. it get 1 Star for freindly staff. It lacks taste it feel like my beef was just salt added, may it the chef's of the day I'LL try again in the future if it improves maybe I'll raise some stars. read more

Apparently my roast beef comes in squares. I wished I could prove it with a pic. Was also supposed to come with roasted potatoes, NOT! Some cooked and some still hard boiled. Carrots were great, haha! The whole mess came with gravy completely covering it all. Sort of beef stew on a plate. So disappointed since I came reminiscing about the good old days. My favorite place in the whole wide world! I would spend summer with my Grannie and she would take me here. I had my first chicken fried steak at the other location on the way "home" to Rockwall from Town East Mall. I was hooked ever since. I'm 49, I live in California and everytime I go to Dallas, I still go here for my childhood favorite!!! So excited to be coming to Dallas for the Cowboy/Bears game on the 25th and eating at Circle Grill on Saturday the 24th! A 4 hour plane flight and a 40 minute drive for CFS? Heck yessssss! read more

What a disappointment. 1/2 a breast and a wing... fried to a crisp and I mean latterly a crisp.. so dry could hardly eat it..greens and potatoes were good. Their prices have gone way up for 1/2 a breast a wing, greens and mashed potatoes it was $11.00 My sister had 2 eggs, bacon, hash browns and pancake (they charge $0.50 for each egg on their breakfast plates because of the egg crisis!) For both meals it was $21.58 and neither of us had anything to drink other than water! Won't go back Not nearly as good as it used to be... so sorry. read more

I've been eating here for years. I was servicing my Toyota next door and walked over to have breakfast when I realized I didn't have any cash for the newspaper they sell from a stack they have on the counter. I asked Shelby,the host if I could charge or pay for the newspaper with my bill when i finished my breakfast. She replied NO, IT HAD TO BE CASH. I left and will not go back and I will share this total unpleasant experience with many people. What a shame, couldn't accommodate a regular customer over a two dollar newspaper. read more
