Bourbon and tacos. Written about through the ages as inseparable twins. We all know when we are itching for some authentic Mexican street food that a good barrel-aged, smokey hit of bourbon is just the thing to pair with some spicy meat, citric veggies and some salty cheese. Okay wait, no. No one ever asked for that. But then again, Circos isn't an authentic taco place. And that's FINE. I would say that what Circos really is is a very creative sandwich joint that uses flour tortillas as the delivery mechanism. There is nothing else "taco" about what they do. They feature pickles on EVERYTHING. And it's good. the Nashville Hot - a vegetarian take on the spicy chicken sandwich (again: it's a flour tortilla) is really mind blowing. It is because they take all of the best aspects of a Nashville Hot and turn it into a "taco." And they did it with Tofu. All of the other "tacos" offer comforting facsimiles for sandwiches. Pulled pork. Brisket. But they are sandwiches in taco form. I didn't try the bourbon because it was noontime on a Wednesday and please people - I have to work this afternoon. One additional point - the service is epic. I came here with a colleague from out of town and our waitress couldn't have been more helpful from helping us navigate the menu to making sure our table didn't wobble. If you're looking for authentic street tacos/Mexican-- unfortunately I don't think you'll find it here I thought with all the great reviews-- that this place would be a hit. Quite the contrary. However, take my review with a grain of salt because i am a snob when it comes to Tex mex and my friend that I dined with is a Texan-- we have high standards. My friend ordered a watermelon Marg. It was good, just insanely sweet. So not something you'd want unless you like super sugary and syrup-y drinks. Then we ordered the queso fundido. This was the only thing I liked, but I wouldn't dare call it outstanding or great. It was bland compared to other quesos that I've eaten with chorizo in them. I got the huevos rancheros off the brunch menu and it was horrible. So horrible i didn't eat any of it. It was cold, the eggs tasted like they were from a box like cafeteria eggs, the corn was definitely from a can, and it was bland as can be. The "fried tortilla" looked like a prepackaged tostada you'd find from the grocery. It got soggy almost instantly. I don't think warm food is too much to ask for‍ My friend got the southwest bowl. Hers was a very small portion. She said it was bland. Nothing special. Like she could've made it at home. The only reason I give this place two stars is because our server was nice and the queso was alright. I'll definitely not be back. read more

Their attempt to differentiate themselves from other taco spots by pairing bourbon with tacos over the traditional tequila pairing is not enough where anyone would really choose Circo over other taco spots. I say this as a person who's preferred choice in spirits is Bourbon/Scotch/Whisky, in that order and I adore tequila. Do not come here if you are looking for authentic street tacos or even just traditional Mexican tacos at that. Their tacos are takes and twists on other fare and cuisines like Nashville's hot chicken, Korean food, etc. The service is trash, they are slow and the food is not amazing. One thing I must admit is that their Ahi Poke taco is spectacular. I returned for a 2nd visit specifically for those. Unfortunately, the service was bad again and the other items were still underwhelming. I asked for Mezcal upon arrival and the server replied "Who drinks mezcal". I ended up with their overly sweet, poorly mixed margarita in a jug. They would rather serve me that trash water than a proper mezcal cocktail like Kojo has on the menu. They do have a BOGO on tacos weekly, so it was a great way for my friends and me to try all of the tacos on the menu. Bottom line is, if great tacos are what you seek, go elsewhere. read more

If I were only rating the food it would be 4-5 but I'm not. They offer tables that are "text orders only." When we asked how it worked (I am not 20 y/o) the server explained then walked away. She was less than helpful when I asked about beer options - menu said to ask server and the paper menu was unreadable. She was rude and dismissive. She did say we could sit at a full service table and we would have done so - if any were clean. They looked like they were intentionally left dirty so you would not sit there. First time visit for HH today. Sat at the bar and the bartender struggled to tell us what what it was. The cocktails were good. Today is taco BOGO and we ordered the Gringo and the Club. The Gringo was great and the Club was cold and had no taste. The main reason we won't be back is the Rap music was very loud and filled with vulgarities. It was awful. My wife ordered the old fashion. it was 3/4 simple syrup, with maybe a "trace" of buffalo trace. Drink price 14.00....i ordered a margarita and upgraded my tequila from a blanco to a respasado. there was a 14.00 upcharge for the drink. so the margarita was 22.00..Thats just not right!!!!....i would recommend you get carry out and drink elsewhere. read more

We've lived in Indiana for 30 years and our artisan taco spot is HARD to beat (Bakersfield you'll always have our heart) but Circo you for sure now have our business! For starters the service is TOP NOTCH! (One of my 4 stars NO DOUBT!) 3 stars for food (we did do carry out which hello, makes a huge difference in freshness let's be real!) The food is really good! It's good, don't get me wrong. However in the 6 different flavors we ordered we'd only have 3 of them be regulars. The Mongolian Beef, Korean Pork and Thai Shrimp were all on point! The homemade chips- the flavor is awesome! The texture though... holy thick!! My jaws hurt after gnawing on those. The salsa rojo- uhhhh, interestinnngggg. It didn't taste bad, it's possible I'm just not as cultured as some and prefer the less tomato paste texture. But it was a nice taste for my tired jaws Finally the margaritas! Completely totally 100%- $10 Tuesday's are thewaytogo very tasty, *slightly* strong. I have a low grade relaxed face after one. I mean, they're good. Not bad, and definitely on par for me to patron again no doubt about it! I'd probably rate them higher if I had 5 instead of one. My therapy is definitely more expensive but certainly more effective than this particular marg. Here's all the flavors we tried (photo labeled) with a scale of 1-5 of FLAVOR. Not necessarily our preferences but the tacos that had AMAZING FLAVOR (1: no flavor- 5: boom baby). I came to Circo to try their happy hour and we were extremely impressed. The poutine was amazing with a good portion, the chicken bites were delicious. We tried the verde and rojo salsa as well. Margs weren't sour or too sweet if you have a sensitive stomach like me. I tried the Mongolian beef, gringo, and shrimp, and I would recommend all of them to you! Upon walking on a quite Sunday, there was 1 bartender and 1 server. I stood for about 3 mins waiting to be seated or even greeted by a staff member. Finally I was told to sear myself. Being a nice day out, I chose a table outside. The tables were all dirty, chairs as well ,including a broke one. Waited about 5 mins to finally get a menu and order a drink. There house margaritas came out of a tap. I will say definitely do not order that. The food came out quickly. It had really no favor. I wasn't checked on to see if I needed anything, like hot sauce or a water. No one ever back. I had to go inside and ask for my check. The bartender was able to cash me out. But no pee bussing, no water, no how's everything. And while waiting for my card to be run, I saw my server her phone, and a couple who looked barely 18 with alcoholic drinks in hand. And dust and dirt ,as well as birds flying inside. And what looked like bird poo, on the floor. I was there the week before and was immediately greeted my a blonde girl who introduced herself and said she was new. Got me a water and menus and let me know my server would be right there. I don't usually write reviews but I handle arrangements for clients, for everything from restaurants to weddings. I would definitely say someone is dropping the ball. I came back because my first experience was a good one. But my 2nd and final one was today March 2nd. I'm not sure if they changed staff or something, but I definitely will not be back. They also said they give a discount to police and fireman but they don't tell anyone, as overhead that one my first visit, apparently when training the new girl behind the bar. Having police in my family and being downtown Sarasota, you'd think they'd want the business. That apparently is not the case. Very different experiences. I'm not sure if the manager was around but ofter the manager will check on you especially if you have to look around for your server. So to sum it up. Plenty of great places to eat and drink downtown Sarasota. I'd spend my $$ somewhere else. Between the extremely different experiences. And the fact they think their cell phones are more important than a customer and lack of service. Don't waste your $. First time even a new person took better care of me then the usual staff. On vacay in Sarasota & we stumbled upon this gem. Circo is a taco & bourbon bar, & the combination couldn't be any more perfect. We ordered chips & queso as an appetizer, chips were warm, & queso was creamy with tiny bit of spice. Perfect for those in our group not into the bam in your face spice. The ahi poke tacos are like two of my favorite things found each other, & are now living their best life. In the middle of a week day, after the lunch rush, why was the food bland and cold. I have never had chewy taco sheets like this. Small (really small) portions for the tacos. The apps were tasteless and below Taco Bell level. Lots of money spent on the look and feel of the place and a concerted effort to be fast ... but the over all impression was just Blah!
