I was here Friday night. The catfish actually tasted like dirt. I couldn't even eat half of it and my appetite was ruined and I was nauseated. We drove by yesterday and saw this place and it eas packed at 2 pm on a Saturday, so he had to come back for dinner and try, about 15 minutes from Rockwall. Just great food, good price with the nicest service. It's very casual and is a completely family run business. We met GMA, GPA, mom, dad, 2 daughters, great people. We had the basket with catfish shrimp, hush puppies, Cole slaw and home cut fries. Great stuff, just lived the shrimp! Love this part, you make your own cocktail sauce. Real fresh gulf seafood brought in weekly. I fish the gulf of mexico and am very picky about my shrimp and fish. I generally don't eat it up here unless I brought it back with me. This place is the only one I have found with true fresh gulf shrimp. Supposedly the owner goes down and gets it weekly, and you can tell. Great service and great food. A must stop if passing by. Well, let's start with the positives, really nice place, super clean, the people working in the establishment were so nice and so friendly. The prices were reasonable. Now, to the down part, this food was sooo freaking bland. No flavor on fried tilapia, we had to season it with salt and hot sauce to make it edible; the gumbo: no flavor, non. I was laughing at my friend's face while he was eating it. Oh, the coleslaw, lord have mercy. I asked for boiled shrimp, they gave me cold cocktail shrimp. They were big, but it wasn't what I asked for, but we were all at that point to just be done and go. Their fresh cut fries were good. Driving through from OK and saw this place. Yelp reviews were good so we stopped. It was absolutely delicious. I had the catfish basket, my husband had the combo catfish and shrimp basket. Son got baked Ponchatrain style catfish. Seafood was delicious. Homemade fresh cut fries were great. We also had a piece of Key Lime pie and a piece of coconut pie. Both were great. We stopped buy on a Sunday afternoon. The folks were friendly and the place was very clean. I ordered catfish and fries and it came with coleslaw and hush puppies. I also ordered a cup of gumbo. My friends ordered double cheeseburgers with onion rings. The catfish was hot and crispy and the season was ok. Nothing special. The gumbo was not good at all. It tasted like vegetable soup with Bar S sausage and a couple of tiny salad shrimp. The gumbo portion was about 2 oz. The last time I checked a cup was 8 oz. The fries were soggy not crispy. The coleslaw had absolutely no flavor. Just about the worst slaw I've ever had and I love a good slaw. Guess I should have had a burger because my friends said the burgers and rings were great. However they are not writing this review. I may give them another chance but I will order a burger next time. If I do and it's as good as my friends say I will give them a couple more stars. Maybe, btw 2 burgers, the small catfish basket, a 1/4 cup of gumbo, and three drinks was almost $50. A bit overpriced. read more
