It's been around a for long time and has this way-back (1950s) bar which is great to drop in for a quick bite. The menu is packed full of a number of Tex-Mex goodies. An Austin establishment through and through. Waking in here feels like a blast from the past. The decor feels like I'm in a movie set with the vintage neon lights and diner feel. If you're here it better be because you know that biscuits and Mexican food is the greatest secret combo man has ever made. Be sure to get the biscuits toasted. They'll arrive quick, warm, buttery, and just a little salty. There's honey and jam on every table so you can dress it up how you like. $4 for a whole basket of these heavenly warm flaky things? Probably the best deal in Austin these days. The tacos are huge and cheap. My favorite is the migas taco. The migas are done the way they should be... overflowing out of the tortilla with lots of veggies, cheese, and tortilla chips. They come with a big side of spicy fresh ranchero sauce. Service was great too. Our waitress was so sweet and shockingly speedy. Parking is iffy. You can pay for street parking or they have a few designated spots in the lot on the west side of the building. The food, atmosphere, service, and prices make up for it though! After a night out in Austin, we headed here for breakfast. We enjoyed every bite of our large breakfast tacos. I ordered migas and potato and egg. Husband ordered bacon and egg and chorizo and egg. Delish! I asked for spicier salsa and definitely was more flavorful-but only a tad hotter. Even the coffee was great-a hint of cinnamon! Man, we practically rolled out of there! It's been around since 1950 so figured it had to be good; wrong. ALL the ingredients come from a can and they use the crappiest eggs possible. The sausage was clearly pre-frozen, then fried to a char. Eggs were bland and tasteless, clearly the cheapest kind, and the side of refried beans was clearly poured from a can less than five minutes prior. Cisco's used to be a very dependable breakfast spot, but I am sad to report that their quality of food has really gone downhill as of lately. This morning we had migas that had the same tortilla chips from our basket and there was very little flavor overall. The tortillas were also lackluster. The eggs gave McDonald's vibes. We left very unsatisfied and will not be returning. Food is too expensive to have mediocre taste. Quite honestly the best Tex-Mex I've ever had. We rolled in after a long flight and were greeted by a fantastic first meal. The chips and salsa were absolutely phenomenal, so much so that I would go back just for that! We ordered the Friday lunch special (enchiladas) a chorizo and egg taco, a migas taco and a crispy beef taco. I was absolutely blown away and was quite impressed with the prices. Not sure how long this place has been around but it seems like forever. Has that hole in the wall charm but it's pushing some major traffic through. The first part is unassuming but turn the corner and pow bunch of seats and tables. The history is all over the walls of this building. I've been going here off and on for thirty years and the place has always had consistency issues. But my last two visits (the most recent one week ago, September 4th) have been especially disappointing. Last week I had the crispy taco/enchilada combo lunch and everything on the plate was sub-par. The taco was simply awful: flavorless picadillo in what tasted like an Old El Paso taco shell, with thickly grated cheddar on top of iceberg lettuce. It looked and tasted like something you might find at an office potluck lunch. Everything else was meh-to-the max: cold beans, reheated rice. and worse, and enchilada that looked like it had been nuked and bonded to the plate. Just awful. I'll concede that the breakfasts can be good to great, and that's your best bet. But the whole Ciscos experience-expanded food menu, beer, wine and cocktails has degraded it is still worth a breakfast visit if for no other reason that it needs to stay open and viable amidst the mass extinction of so many long-term Austin establishments, food be damned. read more

Been coming here since the mid - 1970's when Rudy held court in circular table back room. Luminaries, politicians, sports figures, city fathers all gathered during that era. Food has been consistent for most of the time but a few drops from glory happened. Not so today. New owners really spruced place up in the front area plus added nights. Best huevos rancheros in town. Yesterday, Sunday, I went to Ciscos with my partner, and we sat at the bar. We ordered, and the food was average--I think the only good thing was the biscuits. In the area where we sat at the bar, you could see and hear everything that was said in the kitchen, and to my fortune, I also speak Spanish. I can tell you that I had NEVER heard so much shouting, swearing, and humiliation as I did yesterday morning from a woman who I'm not sure was the manager, but she spoke so rudely and disrespectfully to the kitchen staff and servers. If you're considering coming to this place, think twice. The food isn't worth the prices they charge; everything seems like it's from the day before, and the staff--at least the woman I saw in the kitchen with extremely long nails, often handling food without gloves--was disrespectful to everyone. My server was so busy that I didn't have time to ask for that woman's name to report her to human resources. I hope someone does something about this because I've been to many restaurants, and this is the FIRST one where I've seen so much disorder and so many humiliations from the staff read more

This review is long overdue. I was in town visiting family and my uncle brought us to Cisco's. I'm not usually a fan of his food choices but this time he was spot on! The place is very cool inside and brimming with history! The food is great and the atmosphere is awesome, but the real reason for this review is the phenomenal service. I had my LO with me and walked into this place with a diaper emergency. The gentleman (who turned out to be our server) was incredibly gracious and helpful. I am STILL grateful for his help that night. His awesome service continued throughout our meal. Everyone was happy with the food they ordered. Great bang for your buck for sure! They also offer great beer specials which is nice. Next time I'm in Austin I'll definitely head back to Cisco's (just with a better packed diaper bag!) read more

It's Cisco's 70th Anniversary and in honor of this event, a coupon has been running in the XL that offers 2 for 1 Migas or Huevos Rancheros. So we took them up on the offer and four of us headed east for brunch this week. Chips and salsa came with our meal and while we waited, we consumed a basket and a half and two bowls of their fresh salsa. Each of us had the Migas served with refried beans, ranchero sauce, biscuits and homemade tortillas. Three words about the biscuits: small fluffy hubcaps. On the table you will find containers of fake melted butter and honey to dress them up. The serving of migas is huge and delicious with the perfect balance of ingredients. And just to be sure we had enough food, we added an order of their famous picadillo served in bolillos for the table--muy bueno. Rudy Cisneros ("Cisco") died about 15 years ago and his son Clovis took over the business. Nothing has changed. I'm quite happy about that and I thank Clovis for keeping his father's sense of humor and flair alive. Cisco's serves the same good food in the same location with the same decor on the walls. I swear I sat in a chair today that I sat in 20 years ago. The walls are abundant with photos of Willie Nelson, LBJ, football players, articles about the restaurant, jokes and funny posters. Cisco's was my "go to" place for a Bloody Mary and breakfast back in the day. Now, there are so many choices that I don't get here that often anymore. It is still a fun place to be the morning before a UT football game. That special game day tradition will never change. read more

Disappointment. I ordered the Ciscos' Special, for the sole purpose of having the beef fajitas. Got order, THEN was informed there was only chicken fajitas. I was never given the options. Had I known, Iwould have chosen a totally different plate. My husband has dietary restrictions. He ordered migas with no onions or tomatoes. Once he found onions, he pointed this out. I was with a group of 4 people, a 5th joined not long after, and we decided to stop by for some margs/drinks since we had about 30 minutes to kill while we waited for a table at another restaurant. Initially we got a round and closed the check since we didn't think we would be there long enough to get more. We ended up having a bit more time and so when I went up to the bar to try and get another drink I was rudely told I could only order another round for the table and that they were "too busy" to let me order a single drink from the bar. This was interesting considering we were the only table that was there, besides 2 other individuals at the bar. I am not sure if she meant she was too busy serving or texting on her phone because that was what she was doing while I was waiting to attempt ordering another drink. We quickly decided our money would be better spent elsewhere and ended up leaving shortly thereafter. The marg was excellent but I'm not sure if I'll be going back anytime soon. Update: Matt and Louis did a really good job reaching out to me in order to make the situation right as well as using this situation as a teaching moment which I think we can all appreciate. At this point it is safe to say I will in fact be going back for some more of those amazing margaritas.
