This review is for the bar/lounge, not the restaurant part of it. Got there at 1030ish... There was a little line to get in, but was in in less than 5 mins. There kinda strict on the dress code, but extremely strict on shoes. Must wear dress shoes.. So i as i walk in, im taken by vast cavernous aura of the place. It kinda reminds me a church. Dont get me wrong, this is good thing, cause the place doesnt get all hot and stuffy.. So you walk in, and the bar is on the right. Dance floor is to the left, and DJ is right in the front. Also the bathrooms are toward the back. Lines for the restrooms were pretty swift, with an attendant inside. So yes, pretty clean. Now i loved the decor and style of the place. Some might say a little gothic, others might say a little renaissance...but im saying, it looked pretty cool. Crowd was mostly hispanic, but you had your randoms in there as well. Age wise, looked like 25 and up. They have a second floor, which i think had a private party.Also the place when i got there was not that packed, which was a good thing cause you could still walk around. By 12am though, it was packed, especially around the bar area. The bartenders were very quick, which was a good thing. They do have valet. The only thing i think this place lacked is they really need a better DJ. He had a couple sets were the music flowed, but otherwise, he kept up changing songs, like 30 seconds into them.. I was like, "what the f**k".... Otherwise, come down and have some drinks. After, you can hit up King Taco, which is just right around the corner. read more

This weekend will be a very busy one...especially with trying to please All the different groups we pertain to.... oh well...We will try. I had been here before...but strictly on business. But today we met up with some very close friends for dinner...Rocio her husband. I needed a solid drink after my struggle on the freeway, trying to make it to this side of town. So Rocio ordered a nice bottle of red wine...to relax a bit. Thanks my friend. All the food was so delicious...from the appetizers like Dates with bacon and goat cheese, or their Passion fruit Ceviche,or Ribeye steak. So I was waiting for Wifey to decide if she wanted to have her birthday party here. The customer service is excellent...the food is amazing!! read more

I have been coming to Cities since it first opened. Today I had the best meal ever produced by Cities - Chef Jimmy's Marrano Beach Surf n Turf. It's a perfectly seasoned steak kissed by chorizotopped with shrimp sautéed with garlic and chorizo and a side of corn slaw (esquites). I would even say that the Marrano Beach Surf n Turf is one of the best meal I've had in LA. read more

We've had our company Christmas party here twice now. The service is friendly, the atmosphere is very warm and festive around the holidays, and the food was good (for your standard company dinner faire: house salad, chicken breast) Wait a second, to add to that, their house salad is SO DAMN GOOD for some reason. I was asking for the extra pre-made plates like CRACK. I must've eaten 4 dinner salads of guests that didn't show up. *Stephen Colbert Hand Gesture*: give it to me. There's an upstairs lounge where they'll plant a second bartender if its worth it to them. Overall, warm ambiance. I don't know what the crowd is like otherwise since the place was brimming with our own peeps, but I will definitely say this is great for intimate company things. read more

First of all, you won't find a better Management team anywhere. Oscar, Hugo and Steve are the greatest! Best experience i have had at a bar/lounge in a very long time. The food was outstanding and the drinks were reasonable. You have to go see Steel Rod on Wednesday and Sunday nights! This is the greatest local cover band i've ever seen in my life! They take requests and literally play almost any song! They get the crowd involved and put on a fantastic show! No better way to start or end the weekend! These guys are funny and play their asses off! I'm definitely going back every DAMN Wednesday and every DAMN Sunday! Oh...ummm...did I mention that I'm the drummer for Steel Rod? Ambiance is great! The decor/Art is very cool! Selection in dishes....Awesome! Drinks aren't too bad.....although this is where I tone it down on raving....Ouch!!! A tad bit on the overpriced side. And I know why not? Well although I'm super for support your community, I don't want my community ripping me off dry...room for improvement definitely...but until then.....won't be able to go back unless it gets a little more real on prices, otherwise spend that much, why not just go to Melrose, Silverlake, Echo Park or Weho, among others, where you expected to, but you definitely pay for the atmosphere and confident about it. But do check it out when it the area!!!! read more

Easily this is arguably the best place to go to in the area for Dinner and Night Life. Cities Restaurant & Lounge has an upscale appeal, with a Downtown LA and Hollywood twist. Cities offers a modern looking bar surrounded by high wood beams exposed brick walls, with a second floor, overlooking the dining room, which later becomes the dance floor. Dinner prices are very fair and the food is as delightful as the club ambiance. The nightclub is as good as the food, offering a good mix of music with an outside patio to mingle or to have a smoke. Bottle service is surprisingly reasonable with section couches or VIP areas for your guest. Plenty of security in parking lots as well as in the Lounge. My personal favorite appetizers are the Sliders, Wings, Beer Oysters and Passion fruit Ceviche. Will definitely be back... read more

I've been to this place twice now. Once was for a high school reunion and the other was for a happy hour sit down. The place doesn't look like much from the outside. It could use some more lighting to stand out. Once walking in you see a pretty cool setting. There is a bar to your right with bar tables and chairs. To your left you have regular seats for more of a restaurant feel. Upstairs they have an open area for clubbing and party purposes (My high school reunion used that area). My second trip was on a Tuesday night. We were trying to find a place that had Time Warner Cable to watch the Dodgers game. Cities had it! They have great Happy Hour promos for drinks and food. We got tacos, guacamole dip and I got a delicious burger. They also have homemade ice cream. We had a tray of 4 flavors. Our bill was reasonably low for what we got. Our waitor was also very attentive. Overall this is a cool east LA place. It's Dodger season so we will be coming back here read more

The food was great- the lobster kobe burger was different but in a good way!! The lobster was poached nicely! The beef taste was overpowering but once you separate the two, it works! The dates with bacon was tasty and with beer, even better! The temperature was an issue upstairs! The restaurant needs a fan to make it bearable up there! read more

Cool bar if you're in the area, but nothing amazing. I came here for happy hour and tried their sliders, tacos and mini pizzas. The tacos were the most flavorful, the sliders were a bit heavy on the patty and a little dry, the pizza was crisp but somewhat bland. The server was very attentive and fast. Absolutely no complaints there. read more

3-7-18. Second review. Great place for drinks. I came here to eat, the food was not all that. I had the Mahi Mahi plate - fish was not tender. Pork belly taco suck too much fat on the meat! The dates wrapped in bacon were great tasting. The Brussel sprouts were hard. The waiter was nice but was the only one there and took forever to just get us water. Big time down fall it's so dark you can't see what your eating, even with a inky dinky small candle at the table. I won't be back, I rather go home serve myself wine and a great dish and not have to wait that long. Two stars! Not three. read more

It was all fun until the end the people who work there kick out people so rudely. I understand that they want to go home after a long day of deealing with drunks but taking a full beer out of someone's hand is extremely disrespectful. It hasnt been the first time I've seen this but they definitely need to work on how to approach this situation when it's time to go because people are spending money on Their drinks if they want them to be done and out on time they need to stop serving by 12:30am so that everyone is out on to time. But yanking a drink out of someone's hand is unacceptable! read more

Decided to stop by after class on a Wednesday night. First off, they don't have a parking area and I had to circle around the streets for a while before finding street parking. No cover is needed to enter, which is a plus! Went in and relatively dark, but there are plenty of tables and there is a dance floor with real DJ. Sat in a booth in the far right corner of the bar, which was pretty good because the music can get too loud elsewhere. Ordered the House Whiskey shots and they were only $5 each! Originally came here for food and drinks. But we got in at 10pm and they said that the kitchen was closed already which was a bummer! I think it would be beneficial for the customers and the business to keep the kitchen open until 30 mins before closing. Would help the business generate some more revenue and also help the customers sober up with their drunk-chies! read more

Where do I begin! Customer service is terrible! There's only 1 waitress, which takes forever to serve you.on 2 of my drinks there was Flys inside of them..I understand that sitting outside a fly could have easily fell in, but when i got my 2nd one, im literally watching her place it on the table, I start stirring it, and AGAIN an even bigger fly..aside from that about 3 weeks ago apparently they put their own tip..my receipt says one price and my bank account says another! Very unprofessional on their end. Oh and the music is horrible, they have a regular citizen playing whatever he likes and when you tell him to change it he says, No!! Will definitely not be back any time soon read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. We got bottle service and the alcohol was tampered with. Does NOT taste like Alcohol at all, it has a kiwi taste or something fruity. Idk what it is, but we complained to the owner and all he said "you can have a shot on us, thats it". What an accommodation!!! The restroom also smelled like a porter potty. If I could let you smell what I smelled and taste what I tasted you guys would be dissapointed. The only good thing of this place is the music. Good luck if you come here. After writing this review, he also came up to us to ask who wrote this. So unprofessional of him in every aspect. He didn't even apologize or even try to make the situation better. I've been going to Cities for several years now and have never been disappointed. The service is great whether you are in the restaurant or at the bar. I even hosted my 40th birthday in their loft area that includes plenty of seating and another bar. They frequently have DJs and live music too. Cat and Steve are the best bartenders! Their service is quick, they are friendly, and the quality of the drinks is incredible! The food is tasty especially since Steven the chef is back. Pizza, tacos with fresh made tortillas, burgers...nothing disappoints. We will continue to go to Cities for years to come! read more

First we arrived for our reservation and didn't know who to check in with. Finally a man comes (no idea who he was) and seats us. The waitress comes over, I ask what beers are on tap and she has no idea. I walked to the bar to see and came back to the table to order. My friend asked about the wines, again the waitress is clueless and makes no effort to provide any information. Food was great- pork belly tacos, asada tacos, guac and chips, garlic fries. 2 stars for food alone. Your establishment seriously needs to look into the service provided to its customers. We had to ask for napkins 3 times and water 4 times before we got them. Our party of 5 agreed we'd never come back, based on service alone. read more

Well this is the 1st and last time back since the pandemic and I must say that the customer service is lacking ,the new young obviously untrained bartender has no business behind the bar. They need STEVE back to save the bar ASAP!!! I was there for 2 hours with my family (4) and never once did a waiter come ask us for drinks, even though he said he would when we went to sit in their extremely small patio with flies. He comes to ask us how we are doing when my son and nephew left. No music outside. I must say the vibe is totally off, to the point of being racist. I try to always support the community and local businesses, but I will NEVER EVER support Cities again and I will spread that word. And the women's bathroom is the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. Damn at least they could clean the bathroom! So sad and disgusted!!! read more

Here celebrating my sisters birthday and i request a song. I showed the MC the song i was requesting and he said he'd play it. Since he didnt play the so g I requested (played something that could be confused as the song I requested) i went back and requested a birthday song. He completely tried to dismiss me by blowing me off in the most rude manner. So I said to him "can you play this song" (Birthday B*tch) and showed him the song he blew me off/shooed me off saying he already played the song. I told him to take a closer look cause DID NOT PLY THE SONG. He's obviously blind illiterate or is in the wrong business because he was extremely rude and said he wasnt going to play the song i was requesting because he already played it. I've here a few times, usually it a nice experience. Today, not so much. Got here at 8pm, sat at a empty table. Only one waiter in the place. Past me up a few times. Waiter sat another couple next to me. He ignored me for at least another 15 -20 minutes. I finally got up and got a drink from the bar tender. He said to have a seat and he'll send the waiter. Waiter still took a few minutes then gave me a menu and said this all they have left today. Came back a few minutes later and asked for the rib eye steak, and he said they sold out. Had heard this place had good food, guess we'll never know. read more

This place should be 5 stars!!! Food is excellent. Food is like eating at those restaurants that change their menu everyday with exceptional taste. Staff is friendly. This review is for the nightclub at cities. This is my second time here. The first time I came here was on a Friday and it was chill. The door guy didn't seem to strict with the dress code but the DJ sucked big time. It was like I was listening to kiss-fm. Fast forward to my most recent visit. First, before I left my house I received 2 phone calls from friends that were already there asking if I would be able to bring one a shirt and the other a pair of dress shoes. That should have been my first clue as to what a dick the door guy was. I get there, give everybody their change of clothes and they get in. Cool, right? Nope one of the guys I'm with doesn't have the "right" shoes. Apparently 200.00 shoes from Aldo don't cut it. Because they are boots. Mind you I was wearing boots as well, but mine didn't lace up. The sidewalk was full of people who didn't make the dress code cut. My group and I finally got in after dealing with the general manager, but dealing with the drama was not worth it. I will probably never go back. Which is a shame, because I had a good time and this time the DJ was on point. read more

I have never had to call the sheriffs for any reason. I have never seen I fight at Cities while I am there. I go there for an early dinner and enjoy the food. When I go to Cities I usually leave by 6:30 PM.

Music: If you're into house music, then this is the lounge for you. They have different DJs during each set. Drinks: They offer beer, cocktails, and wine. The interior has dark lounge lighting with tables throughout. I got the gotham standard manhattan ($16) which was strong and spirit forward. We came right when they opened so it was very empty, but the bartender mentioned it gets really packed and lively on weekends. If I came back and was able to guess the password I'd stop by when it's more energetic for a different vibe.

The server was saying he was trying to find a manager to help out but they were nowhere to be found. Clearly management is fine with these service times since they're still making $$$. The drinks were delicious, and I loved that there were heaters on the patio (though they did get very hot at times). Our server was so kind and brought us a celebratory drink. I do wish there were more explanations with the beverages, especially for the Paid Vacation as most people will not realize you're supposed to bite into the buzz button for the tingly sensation. I would come back, but need some time for my wallet to recover first, haha!

A complete dinner is available, served with a large baked potato, 2 pieces of garlic toast and little salad bar. I found the drinks to be well priced and the service was excellent. The bartender gave me crap for ordering girly drinks, but it was all in good fun. Oh and Friday they had some awesome Karaoke going on. I will 100% be back at The Venice Room.

When my venison burger arrived, I took a few bites and it had the exact flavor I was hoping for and I thought the burger was done extremely well. My friend also ordered a pork chop, and it was an amazing cut, cooked perfectly, tender, juicy and everything you could ever want in a bone in pork chop. They also cut the entire piece for you and scraped every last bit off of the bone too. The service is really attentive. They come by your table a lot to ensure you have everything you need. The ambiance is a bit dim in lighting which sets a nice mood. And the place just happens to be dog friendly too. Sorry for the lack of photos, but I didn't wanna intrude on everyone else's meals. However, if you come here, definitely try the salad with cherries and the venison burger or the pork chop!

Beef rib eye (32oz) is a lot for two people. Comes with bone marrow and sea salt to sprinkle on. Great char and flavor making it a good staple. Servers are friendly as expected with an establishment as this. Ambiance is bright and lively. Plenty of natural light. Since it was still early and a Monday, the restaurant was empty. The first person we encountered was the female hostess Danni. I was happy to try the place out finally but unfortunately she started the experience terribly. Danni stared at my daughter and me when we walked up. No fake smile, nothing. She looked sour and annoyed. Definitely not welcoming or gracious whatsoever. She asked if we had a reservation. Told her no. I ignored her demeanor at that point. Another female employee was standing next to her. Danni turned her back to us to whisper to her. It was odd and awkward. Bad vibes. The other woman walked us to the back of the restaurant and seated us inside, at a table by an open exterior door directly in the sun and close to the sidewalk. I asked if we could be seated elsewhere & the young lady said, "I was told to seat you here." I asked her to ask if we could sit elsewhere since the entire large restaurant and patio were completely open and it was only 5:15 on a Monday. Only after I raised these points did the girl finally say she'd ask Danni. We stood there while she walked back, she and Danni talked, they looked at us for awhile and the girl came back to finally seat us elsewhere. Our waiter was wonderful and the meatballs were deliciously unique so I gave two stars for them. My daughter and I ordered the lemon pasta, two orders of the meatballs, salad and carbonara. The whole experience was ruined by how it started so unpleasantly, making us feel very unwelcome for some inexplicable reason. The entire time we were there, only a couple of parties had come in to dine. The majority of tables were available throughout the entire time. The unpleasant interaction with Danni made me feel really uncomfortable and it was hard to relax and enjoy the dinner. At the end of the dinner, I asked a female employee for the hostess' name and rather than giving me her name, she said she'd go get her. I watched her walk to the hostess, they both talked, looked at us and the hostess stood there staring at me. I approached her and asked her to chat if she had a minute. I did not want to resort to writing a review without giving her a chance first. I told her the way she started our dinner was really distasteful and I wanted her to be aware how her behavior makes customers feel and colors their experience at the restaurant. I tried to discuss it with her but saw that her attitude was not going to change. Super disappointing. I hope others don't experience this and I don't understand why she behaved this way. Complete waste of my time and money. I unfortunately cannot recommend this place based on my experience.

The unique position of the bar adds many points of visual interest. We started off with drinks, all of which were excellent. I had a classic martini and another guest had a really complex cocktail with a big chunk of dried pineapple. They made us a special request iced tea, and the coffee service was great as well. All the food was delicious. We started off with the feta, which was amazing. This dish could use one more piece of the delicious pita. Two of us chose the salmon skewer and another went with the basmati rice. Each of us was very satisfied with the flavors and portions. Throughout the evening we had excellent service from Gage. Thanks for adding to our pleasant experience. We did not check out desserts as we'd already committed to Foster's on the way home. We will try them next time. Overall, this was a 10/10 experience. Some drizzles of tahini over each floret and there were 2 small aliquots of sauces on one side of the plate. The green one was herbal and tasty. The other side of the plate had no sauce. The cauliflower was a bit overcooked. Salmon kebob - fish was very overcooked. No seasoning or flavor. We didn't finish it. We also had a beer (they have the Craftsman 1903 which was great) and a gin and tonic which was good. Overall - I was expecting more. Had heard a lot of good things about the place. I did like the space. Would have liked a table closer to the window (there were several open but the hostess sat us far away from there in a corner even though we had a reservation).
