My parents absolutely love this restaurant and visit at least once a week. So when we asked my dad where he wanted to watch the Mexico game for his birthday, it was no surprise that he chose this place. The food and service from our server were great. Unfortunately, the reason for my 2-star review is the entertainment for the night: the DJ. I understand it was a packed house during the World Cup, and I know busy nights can be stressful. However, there is no excuse for the level of rudeness we experienced. Since Mexico won the game and it happened to be June 24th, my mom approached the DJ to ask if he could take a song request. She explained that it was my dad's birthday and that he would love to hear even a small portion of his favorite song, "Corrido de San Juan." The DJ responded, "Okay, I'll see." Two hours later, I went over to politely follow up. I asked if he knew the significance of the date and the song and whether he could play it. Before I could finish, he interrupted me and said, "Yeah, I don't need to hear your whole damn story. What do you want?" Trying to keep my cool because I knew it was a busy night, I explained that it was my dad's birthday and asked if he could at least play the intro. His response was, "Yeah, I don't care about that. Don't count on it," before completely brushing me off. As we were leaving, we informed the staff about what had happened. Their response was, "Come back on a less busy day for a better experience." I understand that restaurants can get busy, but the restaurant was not busy today, making the service we received completely unacceptable. I politely asked to change the sauce on my chilaquiles, and my plate didn't return for almost 20 minutes. By the time my food finally arrived, my family had basically finished their meals. Food was good! 4 of us had the guacamole, queso fundido (which I thought was good as it wasn't super saturated with chorizo like other places), we got the pollo con rajas, the carne asada plate, and a molcajete. Everything was good, we had drinks, a shot girl passed so we got 3 Don Julio 70 shots and ordered a mezcal with the girl. This is important for later. We ate ordered more drinks and were having a good time despite the waitress being dry and rude. Whatever she wasn't going to ruin our night. I order another mezcal and I look at my homie and he goes ok I'll order another tequila and then my bf says he'll take one and the 4th said they'll take a candy shot. So the shots come we take a drink and it doesn't take like 70 we just had from The shot girl. We tell the waitress, and she goes " estas diciendo que le pusimos algo que no es?" Y le dije que si y quiero hablar con la manejadora. She gave me such attitude. It wasn't even on her I understand. Someone could have poured a different alcohol not realizing we asked for 70. Anyway manager came over. Said they would never put a different alcohol in the bottle. I said what I never implied that. Mind you one of the guys we were with collect tequila. The manager ended up trying the tequila from my buddies cup, yes from my buddies cup she straight up made a face and then said it taste the same. We argued for about 4 minutes as she claimed she's a tequila drinker and she knows because she drinks 1942. 1942 the worst tequila out there. I was laughing in my head. Anyway y'all be careful what you order here. I still left her a 18% tip even tho I wanted to do 15% but I didn't want to go through the trouble of entering it onto the machine so I just pressed 18%. In this economy (I know we are buying premium alcohol) we shouldn't have to do stuff like this. You have a product and im coming to your venue for the product. Really great spot for food, drinks, happy hour, and overall a good time. Came with coworkers for happy hour and was pleasantly surprised with how upbeat and fun this place is. They have a great variety of drinks and food. It was a Friday and they had a DJ playing music everyone was able to enjoy and they even have a little area for dancing. We were here for the first time and Montebello was my hometown love supporting my old neighborhood. We were craving seafood and wanted to try something new. The location is across the street from Beverly Hospital and it was very spot. The staff very friendly on Friday night number of TV's to watch the Dodgers game. Now the food was excellent and delicious we were impressed with the presentation. The ambiance was really awesome plus the staff very attentive to us. After we went to the bar where the have live DJ and we decided to start dancing we were the only ones, but after few couples start dancing too after seeing us. We have been here during lunch, dinner and happy hour- this was the first time for Breakfast! Didn't know they had breakfast??? The service is always quick and friendly and the place is clean. The cafe de olla is soooo good and the food is delicious! I havent been to this restaurant chain since I moved away from Bell 10 years ago & I have been jonesin' for a Mojarra Frita ever since. We were promptly greeted & seated by the wonderful hostess Helen. The food was so fresh and delicious! But my husband & I were more impressed with Helen's most gracious & impeccable customer service. Whenever anyone came in, we saw Helen rush over, welcome them & quickly seat them. Working in customer service myself, the care & acknowledgement in which she displayed was magnificent. If she hasn't been promoted, given a raise or both by now--best do it bc people like this are rare! Thank you so much Helen--bc of you, we'll be back! Attempted to eat there April 17, 2026. I am really disappointed with our experience at El Pescador Restaurant in Montebello. We came in as a family with our baby in a stroller, and the hostess (Destiney) told us to wait outside because the wait was about 5-10 minutes. We ended up waiting about 30 minutes and were never brought in or given any updates. We eventually just left!! I'd much rather go elsewhere and support them. Standing outside that long with a baby isn't reasonable, and the lack of communication made it even worse. Honestly, the situation felt uncomfortable and unfair, and we ended up leaving without ever being seated. I understand places get busy bu it wasn't even that packed, but how guests are treated matters. This experience left a bad impression. I would not go back to this place not even to give it another opportunity. There's better food out there. read more

This place is the best! The Manager Gus is beyond welcoming. He has such a positive attitude and just knows how to make you feel warm and at home. I eventually landed in the bar top ( 21 and over). I got service from a Crystal and Jeff. They were so attentive and provided the best service. Never had to ask for Help. If it wasn't Crystal, it was Jeff. Where do I start ... first I asked if there were any specials on Tuesday the waitress stated no I don't know what kind of Mexican restaurant doesn't have any happy hour or something on Tuesday but I guess they don't even though it shows that they did five years ago on a menu on yelp, also on the regular menu there is not one burrito insight so when I asked, do you guys have burritos she answered with attitude like yeah but yet there is none on the menu so I asked for a burrito with just bean cheese and a asada she brought everybody their food and mine came last, even though it was just a burrito and as soon as I cut into it a whole bunch of rice, pour out.... so I believe the owner, a man in a blue shirt passed by and I explained to him that I ordered a burrito with just beans cheese and a asada no rice but I also explained that we were going to get a burrito to go so I didn't mind keeping this burrito but maybe they could've charged me a little less, but I was willing to still buy it, but he stated no we're gonna get rid of it and you can order after you're done eating here to go so they just wasted a burrito and then it took literally 18 minutes for me to get another burrito my family was done eating by the time I got my burrito and he never came and checked on me. He never asked how it was. My burrito came out. It was cold, so I'm sure it has just been sitting there and then it had tons of fat in the meat so as an owner, I would've walked by and said I'm so sorry let's just not charge you for this and what can I get you to go but no, he never came and asked us anything. The waitress was rude and she walked up to us and said your total is $80.66 who just walks up to someone and tells them their total no receipt no nothing. She just walked up and said $80.66 that is so unprofessional so of course my aunt gave her cash and once we paid I then asked for the receipt because she was not gonna give it to us for some reason then to look at the receipt and know that my bean cheese and fat burrito was $18 that is insane. No beans no rice on the side a little scoop of guacamole again I will never come back here. The only reason we came to this place is because the place across the street was closed for some reason. The people that I brought it was all our first time coming and not one of them wanna come back we were so rubbed the wrong way and we all run businesses. This was the worst I've ever seen. Somebody treat people if I was the owner and I read this I would be very disappointed in my staff and whoever the owner guy is who clearly can't do his job because the main part of his job should be customer service and again he took my burrito away and never came to check on us never looked back at us and we didn't get our tortillas for the first 15 minutes of us getting our food which my aunts food needs tortillas so again just won't be coming back and I hope other people have better experiences or don't waste your money cause the food was definitely not worth it. Well my experiences was not good because it didn't compare to the location I go in Downey due to not offering the happy hour combo menu and also the choices on the happy hour were just ridiculous how they only had five choices and the one that really surprised me was chimichangas. I also found weird is that you can't customize your drinks to a soda if you're not a drinker and it must be only alcohol so I couldn't choice anything else. Overall I think the food wasn't good because it looked messy and ceviche tasted old and not fresh. My fiancé picked queso Birria tacos that they didn't have on the menu said the waiter and it was not good so we will go to the Downey location where they actually have the happy hour combos and better sections to pick from. read more

Worst food ever. The pollo en mole is rubbery chicken breast. Inedible. Guacamole has ZERO flavor. The queso fundido was awful. If it had Oaxacan cheese you could have fooled me. Tasted nothing but Monterey Jack. The tortillas aren't even warmed on a comal. Literally tasted like they are out of a store bought bag and microwaved. my kid got chicken strips. Disliked the fries and didn't do more than one taste of the ketchup. I tasted it and it was nasty. Not sure because it's off brand or expired. The only positive is when I shared with waiter my opinion he got the manager and the manager took off the plates I left behind. I appreciate the customer service. The ambience was fantastic, beautifully decorated, and nice furniture. I don't drink, but looks like they have a decent bar. If you prefer the bar scene, this place might be for you. But if you're a foodie in search of some real Mexican food, this is not the place. I dont mind paying as long as the foods good, but last few times the ceviche was full of veggies and hardly any fish. The nachos full of chips and not much cheese or meat. Then this past week did it for me, my son asked for green salsa for his tacos and they charged him for it! Salsa that goes on the tacos are now charged? LOL.. Sorry but that was it for me and wont be going back. The other Mexican spots we go to are better, so well just head out there. I've tried almost everything on the menu at this point, and the food is consistently excellent. Fresh, flavorful, and well-balanced, you can't really go wrong with anything you order here. It's the kind of place where you feel confident bringing anyone because the menu is full of hits. If I had to give one piece of feedback, it would be that the tostadas de ceviche, tacos gobernador and carne en su jugo are the only items I probably wouldn't order again, they're good, but I think the kitchen can do better considering how strong the rest of the menu is. Soooo, even though we've previously graced the Ontario, West Covina and Eastvale locations, today we stopped by the Montebello one. After SUN morning church service, my bride craved a shrimp cocktail while I went for their "Pork Chop Breakfast Combo," which for $19 comes with a pork chop, two eggs, hash browns and a trio of plate-sized pancakes. Problem? You bet! Turns out that the "Pork chop" is merely a slice of ham. When I spoke with the manager, she told me that the restaurant considers a "Pork chop" to be synonymous with ham. Which is disappointing, because the photo in the menu clearly shows a full blown PORK CHOP, looking for all the world like it rolled right offve Farmer John's plant and onto El Pescador's menu! My bill was $58, for breakfast, a shrimp cocktail, one soft drink and tax + tip. Normally, we've been happy campers at the El Pescador chain of family-run eateries. Zero stars Not worth it. El Pescador in Montebello has completely lost its authenticity. I ordered the carne en su jugo with a side of flore tortillas, expecting a rich, flavorful dish. What I got was a 16oz container of watery broth with no flavor whatsoever- just a bland liquid that tasted like someone forgot to season it. There were maybe three tablespoons of meat and beans, and a few scraps of bacon floating around. It felt like a cheap imitation of what the dish is supposed to be. When I returned the food, the staff member I spoke to was dismissive and clearly didn't care. No apology, no concern--just a flat "Do you want something else?" That kind of attitude says everything. I visited el pescador again and I have to say Gustavo and Larry were very attentive. Costumer service matters so much and they really know how to do it. As customers this is the main reason to come back. It matters so much and it's so important. Gus and Larry were very attentive, also JC and Jeff at the bar made me the best drink ever! Been coming here almost every Friday for the last 5 years. We've been to the one in Fillmore, West Covina and Bell Gardens. By far Montebello is the best and our favorite. the staff is so welcoming and very friendly Gustavo and Tina are are super awesome. Ramiro, Jessica are outstanding on what they do and their food is tasty and good. But recently we notice something. it's their Flan, it's NOT like it was before. we would even order big trays for special events and now they no longer serve the same flan, sadly now it's so yucky and over sweet. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants but a lot has changed since it opened. Most of the staff still remains which is actually a bad thing. If you criticize the staff they will remember you and next time you're there they will literally ignore you. Even the managers are helpless and powerless. They choose who they will serve regardless of what they're told. Went in with two starving children and they totally ignored us. We informed a manager who advised us that we would be served shortly. But nothing happened after 30 minutes.they couldn't even provide chips and salsa.The inmates are running the asylum.
