I love this little bar. It's the perfect spot for a daytime drink after window shopping or catching a movie at Edwards Cinema. Dry Society is located in the Union Market on the top floor of the mall. It's centered right in the middle, so you can't miss it. There's plenty of bar space to hang and a few tables surrounding the bar as well. They do have a TV, but this isn't the best spot to catch the game. The whiskey selection is on point and my last trip here I sipped on a glass of Pig Nose scotch whiskey. Normally, I don't like scotch because it's too peaty. But the bartender steered in the right direction and Pig Nose is now on my, "buy that bottle" list. The main focus here is their craft cocktail selection; Old Fashions, a bourbon based Brown Derby, and the Eastside, a gin drink with cucumber, mint, lime juice. This isn't a night hot spot, but more of an early afternoon or warm lap kind of place. The drink are a tad pricey, but you're getting some quality sippers! read more

Been here a couple times- once when it first opened up and then another time for a speakeasy event they had. It's a cool little spot and the drinks are good, but because of the location inside Union Market, it doesn't have the same vibe as most bars I drop $12+ on a beverage. We decided to give it another try and saw they had happy hour every day on their website. When we ordered, the bartender advised us the website was incorrect. However, she was still willing to honor the price for us. I ordered the Moscow mule for $8 on happy hour and it was the best damn mule I've ever had since I've been of drinking age. Forget ginger beer, this place uses fresh pressed ginger and club soda. Freaking perfection. Needless to say I had three mules and foresee myself stopping by regularly to get my fix. read more

If you're a fan of the Central Bar in Tustin's Union Market, you'll definitely like Dry Society here at Mission Viejo's Union Market. It's owned by the same people and they serve amazing craft cocktails. The bartender let us sample some of the beers so that we could make an educated decision. My date ordered the Einstock Toasted Porter ($9) and I had a Gold Rush which isn't on the menu. It's a version of the Bee's Knees ($12) which is gin, honey syrup and lemon but instead of gin, I asked for bourbon. Our awesome female bartender said she could make it so I was pleased as punch. The cocktail was smooth and had just the right notes. They had flat screens showing the Olympics coverage. We watched as Katie Ledecky blow out the competition in the 800 m Freestyle event to get the gold medal while sipping on our drinks. Dry Society is pretty chill and the drinks are great, albeit pricey. You definitely get what you pay for though. They serve prohibition era style drinks with real ingredients, not the HFCS stuff. They don't even have ginger ale or ginger beer. We watched as our bartender was making Boston Sours all night. She had to shake all those egg whites. The drinks are good and stiff. Andrew was our bartender and as I watched him craft our drinks, you can tell right away how passionate he was about creating each and every cocktail. From carving the ice to the pour of the liquids every step is carefully calculated, which in my opinion = the best taste. The 2 bar backs Alexa and Sunny knew exactly what they were talking about when it came to suggesting drinks. The staff here goes above and beyond and very friendly. This particular night I tried 4 of their cocktails and each one of course a different taste and ALL amazing!!!! I tried The Boston Sour, Holy Choco Mole (strong but smooth), Mexican Bonfire (my favorite), The Perfect Storm (Refreshing) and shots of After Dark Whiskey (Definitely Smooth). After the experience I had this past Tuesday night, honestly I'm ashamed that Dry Society is part of what is trying to be a crown jewel of a local south OC destination. Omg. We can do better, MV. My little brother and I were eagerly anticipating a new trivia venue, and that aspect def did not disappoint. Union Market is a hybrid wannabe of SoCo OC Mart Mix and 4th Street Market. Dry Society is literally right in the wide open center of all the action. It's lively, bright, and completely endearing to patrons our age. By all means, it should deliver what it promises: hand crafted cocktails, craft beers, fine wines. Right on. However, as Ponyboy stated, nothing gold can stay. With all the bells and whistles of a pricier hangout, you would naturally expect the service to match the hype. Spoiler alert: it doesn't. Dry Society service is disappointing, insulting, and not isolated to any singular demographic. It just plain sucks. From our arrival, it was evident that these bartenders were gonna be slow. Lil Bro at the front of a mini line was neither served nor acknowledged, which seems to be the overarching theme of the place. Other people were for sure commenting under their breath about how slow things were moving despite the sparse crowd. Once trivia started, it didn't improve one bit, in spite of the fact that there were never more than three customers bellied up to the bar at one time. However, at the end of our night, I attempted to order one more round and close my tab. I was acknowledged with eye contact and then straight up ignored. Mind you, it wasn't for another customer, but for more menial tasks that easily could have been completed simultaneously with taking my order or at least talking to me. A simple "I'm sorry, I'll get to you in just a moment" would have sufficed. It's hard to make my larger point without describing the infuriating occurrences in detail, but I'd rather just get straight to it. Never in my sojourns have I been forced to wait so long for anything at all like I was subjected to at Dry Society. The crowning moment indeed was my final bartender (because while there are THREE of them back there, you never know who will talk to you or actually make your order or eventually deliver it to you) spent nearly FIVE PAINFUL MINUTES trying to gingerly scoop out a reconstituted cherry out of a glass jar for my closing Manhattan. Homie. That difficulty alone merited my unfortunate tip. In the end, with the outrageous prices, atmosphere filled with the shrieks of children gone wild courtesy of their very patient families, and completely indifferent service, you're better off going elsewhere than Dry Society. You're already a martyr for mastering the labyrinth that is the Kaleidoscope. You don't need anymore aggravation. You wanna relax. Preferably with a cocktail. Sadly, don't expect to obtain that here! read more

Great place for cocktails! Located dead center in the new Union area of the Kaleidoscope Mall, they serve up creative and tasty drinks that you can take with you anywhere within the Union area! I ordered an Old Fashioned (they have some very good bourbon selection) and the bartender put on a show. He mixes the whole drink in a beaker straight out of Chemistry class, and proceeded to chop away at a block of ice to form a large ice cube for my drink. The end product was very tasty - one of the better Old Fashioneds I've had in Orange County. My boyfriend tried the "A Better Mule," their take on a Moscow Mule that was wonderfully gingery - you could hardly tell there were 2 shots of vodka in there! The only bad thing about this bar is the pricing. $30 for two drinks is steep, but on the bright side it limits my alcohol intake. Will definitely be back! read more

Came here for a few drinks with friends and didn't enjoy my experience. Our bartender was judgmental and wasn't helpful at all. When we asked for drink suggestions he gave us no direction. He refused to answer my questions about alcohol I was unfamiliar with. Just because a bartender loves all the drinks equally, it doesn't mean that you will. They also wouldn't serve me water. For $12+tip, I didn't like my drink- probably because the bartenders wouldn't help me find a drink I'd like. I understand these are "real bartenders" and are probably good at their craft, but the customer service was poor. I don't appreciate being talked down to as a customer because my knowledge of craft liqueur and spirits is not as extensive as yours. Came here for a whiskey and the octopus dish. The octopus was really good, I would definitely order it again. They had a good list of whiskeys and cocktails from what I saw. I will be coming back to try a cocktail. I was really happy with the service. Both bartenders, male and female, were very amicable and attentive. Stumbled in on Saturday night while waiting for a table at another restaurant. They have high end cocktails that look pretty and taste good. The dark and stormier was a good choice. The service was very slow and seemed like nobody knew what they were doing. The first server couldn't answer our drink questions with any confidence and was basically useless. We went here on Valentine's day to get a drink before spending the night in. We were extremely excited because this looked like a great place to get drinks on the regular, and we couldn't believe we had never been before. It wasn't crowded at all, and there were plenty of seats at the bar, so we sat down and perused the menu. Unfortunately, both bartenders completely ignored our side of the bar. No one even greeted us. In fact, no one even looked over to see that we were trying to signal them over. There were two other couples sitting next to us, and they both had empty drinks. Came here with my best friend to escape the oppressive heat. This is a bar in the middle of Union Market, a trendy open market with food, coffee, boutique's, etc. This was a Monday about 5:30 pm so there were not a lot of people there. A couple of people were at the bar when we arrived. Two bartenders on duty and they were both very nice. We ordered the Happy Hour special of the Moscow Mule. These were not served in the traditional copper mugs, but in a cocktail glass. They were a bit spicier than other Mules I've had. The ginger spice had quite a kick to it. The bartender who made our drinks chatted with us for a bit and told us that the bar was closing at the end of the month but that the owner was working on a new concept. We sat at a mostly open bar on a Saturday night for over ten minutes within 15 feet of a bartender who was focused on talking to one couple. Two guys sat next to us and were immediately helped while the bartender continued ignoring us. The only reason I'm giving two stars is the bartender on the other side of the bar at least apologized for us not being offered a menu for ten minutes. Put this spot on my list without knowing all of the details, so I'll jot down the details so you're not caught off guard. First, this is a bar within the Union Market Mission Viejo. If you've ever been to a Union Market (there's one in Tustin as well), it's a space full of boutique shops, restaurants, etc. Secondly, Union Markets are always set within malls. So this spot is inside of the Mission Viejo Mall...nothing wrong with that just prepare yourself to park like you're in a mall, then go up to the second level to get to the market, then wind your way through the market to get to the bar. It's not a 'pop in' sort of place. Ok now to the drinks: the drinks were DELICIOUS. Drinks are broken down into $10 classics, $12 twists, and $14 specialties. My wife and I were able to sneak away for a couple of hours Saturday night and found this gem. My wife went for their take on a Moscow Mule, which was awesome. I decided to be daring and go with essentially a bartender's choice, where you tell them what kind of liquor you like and they'll make you an off-menu drink with it. Our bartender, Joshua, put together his rendition of the 'Ol Blue Eyes from the Savoy Hotel in London (using bourbon instead of mash), and it was simply outstanding. On the next round, I asked for something with gin, and he created an old-school Italian cocktail complete with a little bit of smoky flavor. Again, it was a great drink and not something you'd find otherwise. While he was mixing it, he explained the history behind the drink as well as some of the mixers. It's probably the best bar experience I've had in Orange County. In addition to the cocktails, they had a good selection of craft beers. The wine selection was a little light, but they said they're working to fix that. Overall, we'd definitely come back. My husband and I stumbled across this bar while we were at the Kaleidoscope for a flash mob our daughter was doing. It is FANTASTIC. It isn't the ambience, or even the market itself...but the quality of the drinks, and the care with which they are made and served. They proudly use top notch spirits (not your typical "top shelf", but small-batch, extremely well-made ingredients), and the bartenders take their time. I have tried the Bees Knees, their take on a Mule and the last Word among others, and each of them were well-made. I caution those that think this may be a place come and slam back a few before heading out - the drinks never taste strong, but they pack a punch. Sadly, if I had to give a rating based on ambience, it wouldn't score well. The theme of the drinks doesn't translate well to the look of the bar, and it's a shame. Drinks like these deserve the opportunity to be highlighted and set on display somewhere better than a half-empty hipster-gone-lame failed attempt at a carbon copy to the Anaheim Packing House...and the super-loud music present on the weekend evenings does nothing to help. It is as though the bar can't decide whether to be an open air speakeasy or a dance club, and it fails at both in that aspect.
