Please note this review is for lunch, not dinner. I had such high hopes for this establishment, but alas, I was thoroughly disappointed. You would think that a place that was packed with lines out the door would be a great place to eat, right?! Yup, don't fall for the false advertisement. It was a high-class casual eatery, and had patrons of all ages. Our party was too large so they split us up which was originally disappointing. Even with that setback we were ready to give it another chance. We ordered a few pasta, and pizza dishes and everything was less than memorable. We decided to share so we ordered: 1. Calamari as an appetizer: $16 for such a small proportion of food? And it wasn't even well made, def not cooked enough. 2. Margherita: Yup, paid $16 for a mini pizza that I could have gotten a better slice at a local neighborhood joint. Again, disappointing. 3. Salsiccia: Same old story as the Margherita, just too expensive for nothing special - $17 4. Garganelli: $23, pretty sure my 17 year old sister makes better pasta. Let me mention that through all the medicore/flavorless food, the service was awful. It took us 10 mins every time we tried to flag a waiter/waitress down. And twice even after we told them what we needed, they forgot. I know it was a busy weekend, but it was just frustrating. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice, and the the staff were great (slow, but at least they were nice.) Overall, walked away at a loss for the disappointment in our tummies. "Garden City of Tomorrow" Cittanuova has successfully filled a niche in the restaurant world of East Hampton. The ability to appeal to both women and men, young and old. This well groomed spot manages to shine and blend amongst its neighbours on Newton Lane. Well sculpted shrubs and beautiful outdoor spaces (front and back) clash seamlessly with the bustling bar area and glaring televisions with various sports playing. The clientele range from young thirty somethings to older locals. You'll often time see patrons sitting outside and conversing with familiar faced passersby on the street. The atmosphere is especially conducive to more of a long winded, "hanging out" kinda meal. Plan to stay for more than two cocktails. I'm left to describing the food on a scale of average to good to be quite honest. I haven't had anything that I left raving about since my visits. The drinks have always been quite good and well made. The food on a whole has a much more creative side to it than most places in the surrounding area in regards to mixing flavours etc. It always makes sense here and seems well thought out. This place sucks. Seriously... it just really sucks. I'm sorry, I don't throw many hissy fits but this place was so awful and it bothers me that it's right around the corner from the "elite" shopping in the Hamptons. Picture this: You're working your way shopping through the Hamptons: J Crew, Ellie Tahari, Juicy, Tiffany and then you say 'lets take a break for a while and eat' .. then 2 seconds away you see Citta Nuova and decide to eat there. So you order the fettuccine, the chicken milanese, or maybe the veal. Well, it's all awful. Seriously, nothing special to be said about the pasta, the chicken is forgettable, and the veal.....OH MY GOD. Seriously, the chef lists his name on the menu, and the waitress gives me a butter knife to hack away at my veal with?! You can tell that a chef really takes pride in his food when he allows this in his restaurant. This veal was so horrible - it was $27 and came with no sides, so I got the broccoli rabe and ate that for dinner. So basically I spent $40+ on veal that would be outdone by the Olive Garden :/ read more

Well... Let's start with the mediocre food and poor service. The waiter dropped an entire cup of espresso on my guest and never told the general manager. They never offered to pay for the espresso, and never sent anyone to speak with us after ruining his clothes and burning him. What exactly is the address for this place? I had written an review for it but the address is different. Here it is from July 8, 2008: It's the setting and location and patio that bumps this place a two star rating from us. The service, food, wait time, atmosphere are all at a solid one star rating. I guess the price of the food is a reflection of this great location and open space of the restaurant. It's smack in the middle of town and looks like a fun and spectacular place. We just decided to try it because there were lots of people there. What a mistake. I must say, we waited 45-50 minutes from being seated to eating food. Service was severely lacking but there were no apologies from our server, or from any other servers. Bread didn't come till we flagged a busperson, water not filled, drinks not served, risotta was undercooked. I was most disappointed by the attitude of our server, I don't know his name. If you are busy, you tell us to please be patient. You don't come and go without any words to your customer. Don't go here. It's not a delicious place to dine and the service is not good. In the middle of the summer, Cittanuova is bustling in four separate areas; the sidewalk out front, the rear patio and inside, which features a bar area in front and a dining area in the rear. On a late December evening with the temperature hovering at 45-degrees why not go out for a quick dinner at Citta Nuova. We chose the rear area for the evening. The menu is large and features appetizers, salads, pizza, pastas and other assorted entrees. It was approaching 8PM so we immediately ordered the "Bruschett," which included three different combinations. The "Crushed Ripe Tomatoes," combined Tuscan olive oil, and sea salt, the "White Bean," included mozzarella di bufala, and olive oil and the "Robiolina," featured white true honey, and pine nuts. I chose a piece of the White Bean , which was a delicious...a lovely piece of Foccacia topped with a white bean puree and a small piece of buffalo mozzarella. The beans were mild and worked well with the mild mozzarella. It was a nice start to the evening. We all decided on individual pizzas and I chose the "Salsiccia" which was topped with fennel sausage, san marzano tomatoes, mozzarella & fennel pollen. The pie is probably 10" and the perfect size for a hearty appetite. The crust was puffy and on the sweet side and flavorful. The tomato sauce was a delightfully sweet puree and the sausage was mild, with great fennel flavor. The kitchen added a good amount of mozzarella that created a good balance of toppings. A very good pizza overall. Service was spotty and brusque. The server was diligent but not the friendliest and the runners and bussers were very out of sync, creating a lot of dishes on the table simultaneously. It was amusing and not at all disturbing when we were holding one set of dirty plates while the runners were holding the pizzas. So we were on our way home back to Philly. We stopped by the East Hamptons for lunch. It was Sunday around lunch time. We sat outside - it was a beautiful, sunny day to be sitting outside. I loved it. When I walked in, a guy in a bright pink shirt, blow out hair, looked to be the owner/or manager. Definitely did some GTL. I wasn't sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised by the food and service. The service was good - granted it wasn't too busy on a Sunday yet - too early in the season for it to be crowded in the Hamptons. Anyways, the lunch prices were very reasonable. My friend got the Pappa al pomodoro soup - it was really good (only if you like tomato based soups). I had the prosciutto crudo sandwich - it was simple but very good. You could taste the truffle in my sandwich. I loooooooved it. I ordered fries and the fries were well worth the $3 - generous portion of fries. My sister got the funghi pizza - she loved the truffle oil - it was very prominent. Looooove it. Two other girls got pasta - orecchietti and the linguine. Both were a HIT! They were absolutely delicious. I'm not into pasta - I hate wasting calories on pasta - but these were well worth the caloric intake. read more

I don't understand some of the ratings here. This is a great little spot in East Hampton that offers something for everybody. A good bar upfront with patio seating to keep the boys and/or younger crowd entertained or you can head to the more quiet section in back. I was there for a little Friday 'Happy Hour' on my way east and had a few drinks and a couple of appetizers. Both were good and the salmon tartar was exceptional. Came here with my boyfriend for an afternoon in the Hamptons. We were expecting a decent experience for the price but were ultimately disappointed. Food - I had the salmone affumicato. The sandwich itself was pretty good though it was served with side veggies that were genuinely awful. Service - Our waiter was very absent. Though nice, he rarely came back to us even when asked specifically to do so. Seating - This was the worst part. We were asked to sit outside but little did we know sitting outside meant sitting directly beneath some sharp UV rays cutting into their outdoor section. It was miserable. We both had to wear sunglasses the whole time and were roasting. It was the only table in such light and I think is just a glitch in design based on the way they have crafted shade out back. Overall - If you got, be prepared for a pretty basic Italian cuisine menu (I'm from a *very* Italian community so this is pales in comparison). Not a fan at all. Pretty slow and horrible service. The food wasn't bad, but nothing to rave about. I'm only giving stars because of my personal experience.. The hostess had us on a waitlist for 30 minutes, and after 45 minutes she explained to us that it would be a bit longer. We were fine with waiting, but we left after another party of the same size walked in and asked how long for a table and they were seated right away. When we went back to the hostess, there was a man with her and he said there is nothing he could do about it and that we would just have to wait longer. Well, I had to add cacio e pepe to my cacio e pepe, once I did that it was pretty tasty. Although, I would have preferred if the kitchen had just done this themselves since they were, you know, already cooking my food for me. The linguini with clams was just okay, the menu promised pancetta, but the plate arrived with 2 sad looking pieces of supermarket bacon. We also had the burrata (just ok, would not get again), the burger (good) and the insalata with grilled chicken (it was a salad, dressing was tasty). Overall, the food was enjoyable as was the draught Brooklyn IPA's (yay for that!) Rear patio was nice at lunch time on a hot day. I think it was cooler out there than in the restaurant itself. Pretty decent Italian food in the Hamptons. We shared the bruschetta (all three kinds, all three of which were fantastic), and everyone enjoyed their entrees. Between the four of us we had the steak, the rigatoni (me personally; I also had the caesar salad), the swordfish, and the orecchiette. Everyone had good things to say about their meal. Decent prices, and you can definitely get away with having the smaller pasta portion. I ordered that with my salad and barely finished half. The bill for 4 entrees, an appetizer/additional salad, and a bottle of wine was around $180. Not too bad, especially for the Hamptons. Bad policy. the place was not packed. even worse policy - They wont let you plug in electronics. Anywhere. Under any circumstances. Because, you know - power is the thing you should skimp on when selling food and drinks to a hamptons crowd. That annoyed me. I went with some friends, one of which a busy RE Agent with a dying blackberry. After we looked around for a little while for a plug, we asked the ladies at the front desk if we could plug in. They said no. "Under No Circumstances." WTF. Eventually we got a manager, who suggested my friend go to starbucks, or hang out in the bathroom with her phone. Because, you know - thats totally cool. (?!?!) We ended up leaving the phone plugged in in the bathroom while we waited for our meals. My pork sandwich was ok. Well - the pork was. And the pepperocinis were. The bread was stale. Went to hamptons yesterday and after not being able to make reservations on a Saturday through open table we found this place on Yelp. Not sure why it has only a 3 star rating but the food was a solid 4 and service was a 5. Our waiter was young but on point, our daughter has nut allergies and he sympathized since he also has. He was very attentive, prompt and professional. Overall a great experience. I would come back again. The food was great, calamari very tender, my orichiette pasta with broccoli rabe and sausage was best I have had in a long time. read more

I am very picky about burgers and have tried a diverse range of upscale burgers and I can't say anything negative about it. They could probably shift from those thick cut fries to the thin string type of fries for presentation purposes, perhaps serve in a cup. It was a Sunday afternoon in late October and the restaurant was maybe 20% full. The hostess (blond hair but did not catch her name) was so incredibly rude that we did not even dine at the restaurant. It was just me, my husband and our 4 month old baby. We wanted to sit outdoors (which was more than half empty) and wanted to have our small stroller near the table so our baby could sleep. There was plenty of room on their patio and even open tables in the corner where we would not be in the way. She would not allow us to bring the stroller with us and suggested we sit indoors if we want to have the stroller nearby. I explained that we do not eat indoors at this time due to covid and our new baby. She was so nasty so we decided to just leave and we will NEVER be back. For the record, she was extremely rude to a couple in front of us (who did not have kids with them) so I think she's just a rude person in general. This has nothing to do with any ordinance - there was plenty of room and absolutely nothing would have been blocked by the stroller. In fact, the hostess never even saw the size of the stroller because my husband was outside with the stroller while I came in to ask about a table. I understand that a business owner would want to make it look like a customer was asking for something above and beyond but unfortunately that was not the case here. I've been for lunch a few times and always greeted warmly. I suggest leaving the stroller in the car, as space is tight, but I always see kids there and with pizza as a prime lunch choice it certainly isn't anti-children. When we were there the other day the owner got up from his table and moved to the bar with his party so we wouldn't have to wait...and no I am not Alec Baldwin nor do I wear a Cartier watch. We arrived at 7:45pm and got a table for two right away. I had to get up and ask a waiter to come to our table after ten minutes. The waiter took our order of two salads and two pasta dishes. We had to ask for bread and water. After another 25 min I asked if the salads were coming soon and the waiter said they should have been out. Another 10 minutes and I spoke to the manager who barely looked up. Another ten min later we walked out and no one cared. The hostess didn't lift her head away from her cell phone. The customer service we experienced was definitely not as bad as previous reviews. However it wasn't great. The decor and atmosphere is pretty aggressive and trendy for the Hampton's, but in California this would only be an upscale pizza bar except with snobby Jersey girl hostesses. Settled on this quant spot to dine post opening night of the 2011 Hampton's International Film Festival. We were seated immediately and the staff was very attentive. The appetizer came out so quickly we were in shock. The calamari and zucchini was delish especially with that secret dipping sauce they used. My husband ordered the Risotto and I the Orecchiette, both hit the spot as were were famished by the time we sat for dinner. We had a great time and the food was good but not memorable. I guess for me I was hoping this place would have a knock your socks off feel but it fell short and was just an OK eatery. Don't be fooled by my 22 year old pallet. I am a complete foodie, my parents have taught me well. I dinned at Citto last night with a close friend and I must say- it was exceptional. The hostess was very nice, she sat my friend and I promptly. The only thing I didn't like was that my menu was missing the specials, I asked my server and she brought me a menu immediately. Very good service on her part. I started my evening off with a Cosmobianco (a cosmo) and my friend ordered a Peroni. The draft was excellent. Ladies, this cosmo was unbelievable, light, refreshing. Not too too strong, and it had cranberries at the bottom of the glass. I thought that was unique- and the drink tasted delicious. A little on the sweet side, but very tasty. For an appetizer, I had the fried artichoke, with salt and lemon. This was phenomenal. Crispy on the outside, kind of like artichoke chips, which are delicious to eat whole, and soft and warm on the inside, the heart of the artichoke. I want to go back tonight and order this to go. If you love artichoke, you will absolutely adore this dish. My friend got the margarita pizza, the sauce was a little on the gooey side, but still very tasty. For my main dish, I got the Orichette (sp?), little pasta shells with broccoli rabe, garlic, cheese, and sausage. The sausage was delicious, a little spicy, but not too hot, with a twist of salt and bitterness from the rabe. Delic! I love extra rabe, so I got a side order as well. I wouldn't recommend getting the rabe on the side if you aren't super hungry. The dish was a little pricey and it was a lot, so I would order the half portion next time! My friend got the Milanese (sp?), the chicken. He was a little disappointed because it was topped with balsamic vinegar, which I thought was delicious. It also came with a hearty portion of salad ontop- hence the balsamic. We didn't do dessert because we were both stuffed. Citto is a little expensive, but so is every restaurant out east. If you love Italian food, I would check it out. My only real complaint was the ambiance. The lighting was terrible! I love to be in a dark, dinner, atmosphere. It reminded me of Nobu's ever worse lighting. Not that I don't want to see my best friend's face, but I love to be in a romanitco dark atmosphere. Sure enough, I arrived in Montauk last Saturday to, what seemed like, a never-ending rain shower. So, the girls and I decided to drive to East Hampton and make a day out of shopping, eating, drinking, and whatever else we could get ourselves in to. We arrived at Cittanuova around noon, and were surprised to find that the restaurant was not completely packed with fellow Hamptonites dodging the rain. "Can we have one of the tables in the bar area facing a TV?" Emily asked the hostess. "We really want to watch swimming (Olympics)." Sure enough, we were seated at a cozy 4-top - what we considered to be the best table in the house - just beyond the bar. With the perfect view of the Olympics to our right, and a picturesque image of a rainy Newton Lane to our left. What is described as sleek, sexy, and Milanese in style (whatever that means), Cittanuova evokes a casual sophistication that mingles seamlessly with its chic, seaside location. After all, when summer-izing in the Hamptons, isn't the option of indoor or al-fresco dining key? I'd like to think so. Because it was Saturday - because the weather sucked - because I was on vacation - because, because, because, I kicked lunch off with a margarita. And a darn good one, at that. Aside from the fact that, visually, the glass was taller than most - perfectly salted - and was rimmed with extra limes, the margarita, itself, was delicious. I always appreciate when a restaurant uses freshly-squeezed lime juice and agave nectar or house-made simple syrup. None of that fluorescent green, store-bought junk. Because so many of the menu items caught our eyes, Emily and I decided to split two salads and a pizza. Rucola (salad): Arugula greens were tossed with white beans, red onion, cherry tomato halves, and sliced grana padano (cheese). The greens were dressed with lemon and olive oil. Aside from its "toss ins," I found this salad to be pretty darn boring. Because there was not enough dressing, the arugula greens remained rather dry and difficult to maneuver. Yawn and meh. Burrata: An ample mound of creamy burrata cheese was drizzled with olive oil and plated atop sweet balsamic vinegar. Three slices of toasted crostini and a trio of blistered cherry tomatoes accompanied. The burrata, itself, was outstanding: The exterior had a similar texture and density to an egg white, which gave way to a creamy, molten, yolk-like interior. I appreciated the chef's use of sweet, rather than sour, balsamic vinegar, as it's not something I see or get to taste very often. On the flip side, I was disappointed by the too-crunchy, tasteless crostini and those darn, outfit-destroying cherry tomatoes. Have you ever tried to cut in to a cherry tomato? Juice squirts out EVERYWHERE. God forbid you're wearing white/pastel linen or poplin. I mean, come on, Cittanuova, how many guest's dry-cleaning bills will you have to pay before you switch over to sliced tomatoes? Special pizza of the day: Meatball -- A griddled, flatbread crust was topped with crushed San Marzano tomatoes, mozzarella + grana padano cheeses, and sliced meatballs. Enveloped by a smoky, griddled char, the pizza's shell revealed a chewy, toothsome body and a crunchy crust. Topped with the perfect amount of tomato and stringy cheese, the only component that dumbed the pie down was the meatballs, which tasted of similar quality to those found in $1-slice shops throughout the city. ~ Cittanuova is a great place for a bite + a glass of wine/cocktail during your shopping break. Or, in our case, while escaping the summer rain. While I wouldn't necessarily call it destination-worthy, Cittanuova is a solid Newton Lane staple. read more

The absolute slowest service ever. We were the second party to sit down at 5:30 pm and they definitely forgot to put our order in. After 40 minutes of waiting (and seeing others get their food despite being seated after us) we asked to speak with the manager who finally put our order in. She comped our pizza and gave us a free appetizer which is why we gave 2 stars. Yet, even with these issues, we STILL had to wait 25 minutes to pay our bill! read more

Fantastic location and great people watching right in downtown East Hampton. You will be surprised at the prices at this loungy, Italian cafe and bar- in a good way! Food and drinks are well priced, creative and high quality. Stop in for lunch while shopping in town- the vibe is casual... but remember, you are in THE hampton... casual doesn't have quite the same definition here. Citta Nuova offers a variety of salads, pizzas, pastas and paninis. The dinner menu expands on the antipasti offerings and adds many types of local seafood to the menu. For our lunch we started off with the antipasti Verdura Mista, a cold assortment of vegetables and olives. Then on to the Prosciutto Crudo panini (prosciutto, stracchino cheese, white truffle oil on ciabatta bread) and the Frittata special of the day. We finished up with gelato... homemade, and the Panna Cotta al Limone with warm berry compote. Everything was as tasty as it sounds! After dark, definitely hit up the bar for some cocktails. The bar and front of the restaurant are open to the main drag. The vibe is young and happening and right in the middle of the action. The Scene- Hip, Swanky and Happening Food and Drinks- 4: Stellar! The best real Italian food in the Hamptons. Never had a bad meal here. Food is prepared perfectly every time, with fresh ingredients, and the menu changes just often enough to keep things interesting. The pizzas are awesome. Sat there for an hour and a half and all we got was 3 appetizers and a bottle of wine. Ordered 4 main courses and didn't even end up eating it took so long. Our meals never came after an hour of waiting and multiple times asking. no one seemed to care. A group of kids who sat 20 min after us was able to eat and pay and leave before we cancelled our food. Was very odd to see. Everything takes extremely long and it's not rly worth it when you can't make a reservation. they need to figure out some things. read more
