I had an opportunity to sample their brisket and macaroni and cheese at a bridal expo that I attended and it was actually really really good. I decided to finally give the restaurant a chance Since they have mixed reviews. Not gonna lie I was disappointed, I ordered the brisket sandwich, macaroni and cheese and lemonade. The brisket wasn't seasoned well enough and while tender, it had a ton of fatty pieces in it. The bun taste like they took it straight out of the bag, which honestly is not that serious but geez . The meal was under $10 so complaining too much is a waste of time but I really expected more. The team at the counter were super nice, and the banana pudding taste great. I've tried this spot several times over the years and the quality has gone down considerably in recent months, chiefly for two big reasons: VOLUME - I placed orders for pickup for both Mother's Day and Memorial Day, and sweet lord, these people are NOT prepared for holiday rush orders. I'm talking waiting OVER AN HOUR for food that was already scheduled to take an hour for them to make. Every single person who planned to eat inside the restaurant immediately left and made it known they were shocked the wait time to sit down was TWO HOURS. I agree with most of the other reviews... This place is pretty mid. The first red flag was, i didn't smell bbq smoke as I approached the building. I placed my order and waited a less than 10 minutes. I got a pulled pork sandwich with fries. The sandwich had a hint of smoke flavor, but was otherwise bland. The fries were too salty. Several tables were dirty, they were out of sweet tea and the condiment area needed to be cleaned. The customer service was good though. read more

I was given molded chicken on a sandwich. Extremely disappointed because I enjoy the city bbq in sandy springs. I was extremely hungry and after eating a few pieces of the chicken it didn't taste right there was an odd sauce on it that typically isn't on the sandwich. I decided to separate pieces of the chicken and noticed grey circles within the chicken breast on the sides of the chicken... it was digesting. I called to notify the restaurant in the case they served more chicken to customers and they told me that it was grey marks for the pan from the grill. We know what grill marks look like.. they aren't not individual grey circles. I do not recommend this location and I've notified corporate office. If you ordered chicken from them on this day I would recommend you reach out to them or take note of your symptoms. read more

I went to the McDonough location yesterday. Which was the first time that I went to a city barbecue, but I live closer to the Decatur area. It was so good that I went to the one in Decatur, which was not the same experience. What rubbed me the wrong way was the person that served me that acted like I was in his kitchen disturbing him. Let's start from me walking into the store. I went straight to the menu to see what I wanted to purchase. Brandon was just walking around the area in front of me. I took about 3 to 4 minutes to scan the menu on top he never said welcome. He never said let me know when you're ready to order . He eventually came to me and asked if I was ready to order. I asked him for the pastrami potato and add the side and drink, which would have been cheaper than him adding it separately to the ticket.. he literally told me that he was looking out for me with ringing it up separately when I got my receipt I realize that it was more to add it separately so I bought it to his attention. He never said I apologize. He said arrogantly so what's the difference I can do is my job to add it up I advise what the difference was not including the taxes so I asked what are you gonna do? I mentioned he can throw in a banana pudding. He said no the banana pudding is five dollars . He offered me aside item this side item came in a sample cup not in the regular size sides cup I was about to leave, but I was not given my cup for my lemonade. Went all the way back to the car to realize that they didn't give me my banana pudding. The banana pudding that they have one dollop of whipped cream on it when I went to Douglasville the entire top had whipped cream. I asked for another cup because this was half done and all of them were the same way again Brandon acted like I was bothering him in his kitchen. I don't know if he's Management, but I would love to speak to Management about my experience because it matters these days. I can cook in my kitchen to save, but if I spend my money someplace where I can cook myself, I expected to have an excellent experience like when I went to McDonough they were very accommodating. I wondered why the reviews were so low for this place as some of the food items are actually pretty good at other locations. I ordered online, the pulled chicken sandwich and fries at 12:30. It was supposed be ready at 12:53. I got there at 1:00, had to call in to let them know I was there for curbside. My order eventually came out at 1:13. Now 20 minutes late. The fries were super soggy and had zero seasoning or salt. The sandwich is listed as having Alabama white sauce, but had none. I took it back in and they offered to remake it but at that point I didn't have time to wait any longer so I had them refund my $14... wish I could get back my half hour as now I'm heading into a meeting with no lunch. We used to visit City Barbecue regularly; however, over time we noticed a decline in portion sizes along with increasing prices. What was especially frustrating were the extra charges that were not clearly disclosed on the menu. For example, the two-sampler plate is listed at one price, but choosing brisket or ribs adds an additional $3-$5. These surprise fees appear on every bill and feel deceptive. Honesty and full disclosure are rare commodities nowadays. In total, we paid 57 dollars for what should have been no more than 30 dollars. I hate the feeling of being ripped off. Because of these practices, we have decided to stop dining at City Barbecue. Additionally, the brisket has become noticeably greasier, which further detracts from the overall experience. read more

I don't normally do reviews, but this was EXTREMELY disappointing! The cashier was extremely short and not friendly with us. Our food came and it didn't look appetizing, but we in fact tried it. The corn bread along with our 3 meats were cold, the only thing warm was the collard greens but it tasted extremely vinegary. The meats had zero seasoning. I came here for dinner at around 8 pm on a Friday night. Although it was pretty busy, I didn't have an issue finding a parking space in the lot in front of the restaurant. There was a line inside, and the employee at the order counter didn't seem in any hurry to get anyone through. Nor was she welcoming, courteous or caring towards customers. She was just there to take orders, take their payments and hand out cups. All I wanted was a half slab of ribs and a cup for water. That's all. I needed to be on the move after eating, so I didn't want to take too long. When I walked to the self serve drink area, the floor was very sticky. So sticky that it sounded like all of us customers walking near the beverage dispensers had velcro stuck to the bottoms of their shoes. The sauce stand, which normally is very clean and organized, with two labeled plastic squeeze bottles per sauce, was just trashed, looking like people had a shootout using the sauce bottles. Sauces were squeezed onto the counter, all over the bottles and on the stand itself. I found the cleaner plastic bottle that contained the spicy bbq sauce and filled two little cups and took it to the table that I had picked out. My name was called by an employee at the pickup counter, and she smiled at me as I walked up, and said, "Enjoy your meal!" Wow! What a welcomed contrast! The ribs were heavenly! They weren't fall-off-the-bone ribs, but the meat was mostly tender, and each rib had a nice amount of meat on them. I loved the faintly spiced flavor of the ribs, even before I added some of the spicy bbq sauce on them. I did enjoy the ribs. However, the overall experience I had was just OK. read more

I came here today due to the hot heat, I had a craving for BQQ. I saw this place was near and decided to stop by. It's not great but not bad, pictured in the photo was $22 worth and honestly not worth it. My meats were so dry and tasted like it's been sitting there for a couple of hours. The brisket was the better tasting meat. The BQQ sauces shouldn't be the best thing but sadly it was. I was disappointed with the baked Mac and cheese, it wasn't doing anything or the creamy slaw. 3/5 read more

This is a great location, conveniently off a main highway and easy to get in and out, even when it is busy I usually find parking. The food is great, usually warm, and tasty and has good-sized portions and great service. The peach cobbler is to die for! For a place that's a chain I'm impressed with my experience. The food wasn't amazing, but very good! The chicken wings had a good smokey taste, and were very tender. The ribs had a decent texture, and also had a good flavor. The greens were very tasty. The potato salad was standard but better than your local grocery store. The macaroni & cheese didn't have any seasoning, but a nice cheesy taste. I ordered from Uber eats, for pickup. My order was ready when the app said it would be. I went inside and my order was sitting on the counter with 5 other orders. They were unorganized and one of the employees was cursing with no regard for customers.
