Let me start by saying, I have one word and that is SUPERB!!!!!! After a day of errands, Shauni and I were ready to eat. After executing a search on Yelp, I came across GQ BBQ and we decided to pull up. Y'all know I love me some BBQ. Upon arrival, the location was super to find as it sits on the main road. When pulling into the parking lot there is parking on both sides as well as parking in the back. The outside was clean and vibrant. We knew we were in for a treat as we were able to smell the bbq before even getting to the restaurant. Yes, the power of a good aroma to captivate the sense of smell. Heading inside, the location kept with the vibrant color on the walls as to draw your eyes to the menu. There are ample seating options as well so if you desire to eat in as we did, there is indoor and outdoor seating. Taking some time to review the menu, I decided on the Rib Dinner with Baked Beans, Collards, and I ordered two orders of cornbread as well and decided to not get the white bread that comes with the meal. To note, the cornbread is an extra charge. Once our order was placed, we took a seat and enjoyed the games that were playing on the televisions. As we were engrossed in conversation, before we knew it, our food was ready. I retrieved my plate and headed to my seat. The moment I opened that plate, my entire life smiled. After being enticed by the aromas, I was now overtaken by the visual presentation of this meal. As I opted for the sauce on the side, I was able to see the ribs in their naked state and capture the full fragrance of seasoned pork without the coverings of sauce. Babeeeeeeeeeee, GQ BBQ showed off with this meal. Let's talk the food: Ribs: well seasoned, tender, meaty, minimal gristle, the right amount of fat for a nice chew, great portion size as the dish comes with ribs and rib tips. The sauce was an added layer of joy. I opted to mix their Gresham blend with the Sweet and my mouth had a full mouthgasm of robust flavors, joy, and excitement. These ribs were the absolute bomb with or without the sauce. Baked Beans: perfectly cooked, well seasoned, fresh. Collards: well doctored, tender, perfect pairing for the ribs. Cornbread: absolute gold status, perfectly sweet, cakey with a light crumble, buttery, golden baked, worth the extra cost. The cornbread is slightly small, so I would suggest getting three. LoL. Overall, GQ BBQ was an amazing experience. The ribs dominate the meal as they should, however, the sides compliment the ribs very well. The entire meal is a 10/10 and I will be back very soon for another order. Though I live nowhere near GQ BBQ, I will make sure to make my am way back a few times a year to have my soul fed and taste buds tantalized.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this place. I've been looking for a bbq joint w good bbq and sides. It has its own parking lot and looks like a fun place to come and hang out. I saw a pool table on the inside. I got the rib tips which were excellent. They have about 4 or 5 different bbq sauces. I tried the hot. I like hot/spicy but the flavor wasn't that great so I got the house bbq which was very good. My sides were green beans and greens. They were VERY good and flavorful. My mom and I both raved about the greens. They also have a cake display (didn't see cake on the menu though) Anna's used to be my go to for bbq but their food isn't as good as it used to b. I will definitely be returning. I gave this place 4 out of 5 stars due to the long wait. I called my order in and when i got there, not only was it not ready, I had to wait an additional 30 minutes. What's the point of calling in an order???

Stopped into this BBQ establishment that was rated pretty high, and it is in my neighborhood. This is more of a carry out spot than a sit down restaurant. The ambiance is not the best, but it is not the draw either. I wanted food for the Family so I picked up the "Out East Feast" which gave a variety of what they had to offer. The ribs were not as tender as I prefer. There was a dry rub that seasoned the meat well, but it was not juicy and falling off the bone. The chicken was really good. Tender, juicy pieces that were well seasoned and had good smoke flavor. I could tell someone took the time to brine the meat because the flavor was consistent throughout. The meal came with jumbo wings and rib tips, both of which was good. For sides there is your choice of the usuals. We had baked beans which had no meat in them, and potato salad which was bomb. This spot had great choices for sauces also. We had the Gresham special which was tangy and not spicy. I will have to try them again another time to hopefully get a better experience with regards to the ribs. If not I can always pick up a bottle of their sauce!!

Yum yum! Their Rib and Chicken Combo it is delicious! Worth every penny. They cooked it the way it supposed to be. I was visiting from California and this place definitely exceeded my expectations. Lets not forget about their amazing costumer service. The lady that helped my coworker and i was a true sweetheart. I will definitely visit again this place. :)

Pittsburgh Plate Late Night with Collards and Mac & Cheese

Our order was taken promptly upon entering GQ's Bar B Que. We ordered the Center Cut Rib Sandwich and the Pittsburgh Plate - Late Night with Collards and Mac & Cheese - good flavors. This restaurant was very clean and for some fun and entertainment, there was a full-size billiards table in the dining area for free pool while you wait, along with tv's.

My mother always said, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. If it was edible will count as "something nice" then, there you have it. What we ordered: 2 Veggie Burger combos, Mac and cheese, baked beans and a banana pudding. The hot take: I understand whole heartedly that I went to a bbq restaurant and ordered the only vegetarian meal on the menu. However, I really wanted to try the place out and support a black owned business in my neighborhood. The quinoa-black bean burger was very loose and flimsy, it lacked a distinct or bold flavor. It also did not have any toppings, no lettuce-tomato-pickle-onion etc. The bun was at least heated. The Mac and cheese was heavy on the pepper, light on the cheese. The baked beans had a very interesting, sweet potato-esque, taste to them. They had loads of brown sugar and cinnamon, but lacked the savory flavor that I expect from baked beans. The banana pudding was too mushy. The vanilla wafers were super soft and no longer whole. The service: I placed my order over the phone. It took three phone calls and two different employees. On call number one we were mysteriously disconnected, still no clue whose fault that was. On call number two, the young lady was talking to me and another customer at the same time. She told me to call her back in a few minutes to finish placing my order. When I finally called back, another employee, seemingly the chef, finished taking my order. When I arrived to pick it up, a THIRD employee came out from the kitchen and told me "for future reference, you have to be in here" to which I replied "huh?" The employee said again "you gotta be in here" so I asked "oh you don't take phone orders?" She said "not for that". I wanted to love this place, I wanted to be able to get a decent veggie burger that didn't come frozen, with a huge price tag or a drive to a "nicer" part of town. This was not it.

Pittsburgh Plate After Hour. Rib tips w/ Mac n cheese and collard greens.

Alright Alright Alriiiiiiiiiiiiight. Well done. I had the "Pittsburg plate After Lunch". Creamy Mac n cheese. Collard greens seasoned really well, but it was the rib tips for me. The sauce is finger lickin good. Sweet and Smokey. I also got the potatoe salad and beans for extra sides. Damn !!! The beans were very flavorful. Nice treat actually. A friend of mine was tellin me about this spot so i had to go. Very clean with a VIP room in the back for parties. $250 an hour for about 25 ppl. That includes 2 meats and 2 sides. I will be back.

Long, but worth it for a true review. I'd been wanting to try GQs on Gresham for sometime. I'd been their customer when they were located on Metropolitan so I was excited to see if the flavor I remembered had followed them to the Eastside. A few months after the location opened I walked in and sadly my excitement was dimmed by the counter person who explained that ribs were not available for the next hour. A rib place, sold out of ribs at the start of lunch? But que se ra se ra. I chose to dine elsewhere that day. Another month or so went by and while planning a family gathering I was reminded that GQs offered a large family meal for less than $50 so I decided to try again. I entered the establishment an hour after opening and placed my order. I sat down in the waiting area and 15 minutes later was called up to the counter. The cashier explained that they were, you guessed it, out of ribs once again. She said they would be ready in 45 minutes. Knowing that my family was already waiting on dinner I opted to dine elsewhere once again. I figured it was just my dumb luck so I decided to try once again. Third time is a charm after all. However, this time I called the order in. I placed the order at 5:04 PM. I told the order taker I would arrive in 20 to 30 minutes. I arrived at 5:38 PM and guess what, there were no ribs! The cashier explained that they don't hold orders since people call in orders and never show. 4 minutes past my quoted arrival time and my $50+ order had been given to another customer. The cashier said more ribs would be ready in 30 to 45 minutes. I had children to tend to so I let the cashier know either myself or my significant other would return. Approximately 30 minutes later I returned and the cashier looked at me in shock. She said, "I thought you were so mad you weren't coming back!" I explained that although frustrated I never said I wasn't coming back. Unfortunately, my order had been thrown away. I hope that she meant the written order and not the $50 worth of food. So I decided to be forgiving and try the food once a for all so I placed my order albeit less than that of the amount of my original order and waited 15 minutes. Now after what seems like quite the quandary of missed opportunities I was finally going to have the chance to try GQs on Gresham. I chose for myself the rib dinner with collard greens, for the children the rib tip dinner with double mac and cheese and a chicken dinner with mac and cheese and string beans for my significant other. I added a side of baked beans because I always remembered them being my favorite.. So, here's what I thought: Large meat portion sizes. The sauces are unique and tasty. The collard greens had a decent flavor although a little heavy on the vinegar. Baked beans were pretty standard but kind of sweet. I like them that way but just be warned. Macaroni and cheese, although a good flavor, had entirely too much black pepper. So much in fact there we black spots through out. Unfortunately the kids could not eat it. The chicken was flavorful but a little too over cooked and dry. And there were several feathers that had to be plucked prior to eating. The rib tips were also overcooked, dry and brittle. Even after drizzling a bit of sauce on them they were still tough to consume. The string beans were pretty salty so it was hard to judge the flavor. Lastly, the ribs that I had waited nearly a year to try after two failed attempts and almost a third. The first bite I tried without sauce. They were evenly seasoned with a nice smoked flavor. The meat itself was pretty fatty but very moist. The next bite I tried with a bit of the Gresham sauce. The sauce just gave it an extra kick but didn't take away from the flavor. So in conclusion I sadly was a bit underwhelmed. Perhaps it was an off night. Maybe the time of day had something to do with the preparation. It just was not the same GQs I remembered. Perhaps I'll give it another try in a couple of more months.

If there was a rub, it was subtle to the point of being almost untasteable. Quarter rack of Ribs: poor. Meaty, but far too tough, definitely not fall off the bone. Again lacking in flavor, and burnt in spots. Side of Mac n Cheese: easily the start of the show. Very flavorful, baked and not swimming in cheese sauce, possible notes of ritz crackers detected. I'd have eaten a main course sized portion, and imagine it could mix well with pulled pork or chopped brisket, should Matt's ever consider expanding their repertoire of meats. Side of potato salad: also very solid. Simple but nicely flavored, just creamy enough. Side of collards: fine but unremarkable. Bbq sauce: decent-ish, more tangy than sweet. Very thick. Packaging : Matt's really could improve here. The ribs and chicken, piled together between two slices of white bread, was wrapped in white paper which was in turn stuffed into a paper bag with the containers of sides. This was messy- yes, bbq is by nature a messy undertaking, but a clamshell container would've made the whole fiasco a lot easier to deal with. A fork and spoon were included, no knife... and no napkins. Really? For a paper wrapped oversauced pile of meat... not even a single napkin? I honestly would've been fine paying an extra buck or so for some better packaging and, IDK, maybe a wetnap. Overall, this bbq lover was unimpressed. Perhaps the rave reviews made my expectations too high. I've honestly had better bbq at multiple places in my relative bbq desert hometown of Boston. I was hoping for a real treat during my business trip to Atlanta; instead, I'm yearning for the joint near my suburban New England home...

AMBIANCE The experience got off to a rough start with parking. They validate parking at a local parking structure or garage but the directions on the placard outside the establishment were unclear.... with an arrow to the back. The back of what? As newcomers to the restaurant and the area, the parking structure and restaurant that was point of refernece was not helpful. There wasn't even an address or street name to go by. We ended up circling behind nearby buildings and down another street before finally finding the parking structure. It felt unnecessarily confusing and set a slightly frustrating tone before we even walked in. Once inside, things improved. We were seated right away in a booth on the right side of the dining room. The space had a stylish, eclectic feel....interesting decor with a lively, buzzy energy. Not overly loud, but definitely active for a weekday night. SERVICE Service was efficient and welcoming through though. Our waitress quickly brought water and drinks and gave us time to look over the menu. The concept of Asian fusion twist meets Southern BBQ is intriguing, but as first-timers, it took some effort to picture how the flavors would come together. We found ourselves cross-referencing Yelp photos for awhile just to get a better sense of what to expect. FOOD We decided to get started with the brisket egg rolls, one of their most popular items. They arrived in about 10-15 minutes and were a solid opener...found them crispy, flavorful, and a creative twist on the usual pork ones. For mains, we ordered the BBQ plate with fries and collards, along with the smoked chicken curry. The BBQ plate was fine...nothing really amazing and pretty tiny portions for what you're paying for. The flavors were good, but not justified for the premium. The chicken curry was fine. For $17.50, I definitely expected more pulled pork that people were raving about....the dish was more than 1/2 rice and potatoes. The standout, by far, was the brisket egg roll...easily the highlight of the meal and better than we anticipated given the fusion concept. Overall, it felt like you're paying a bit more for the concept and presentation than the actual quantity. Wouldn't come back again.
