Craving BBQ pulled pork sandwiches is a regular occurrence in our house. So when we need our fill, we come here! My jam is the pulled pork sammie with the sweet BBQ sauce. Ps. You can totally order it without the bun, for we gluten free folks! Accompanying sides vary with my mood, but favorites include: potato salad, fries, mac and cheese, and green beans. You simply cannot go wrong with any of those! The fries are a bit greasy, but when you eat BBQ, greasy fries are always welcome! They even have a decent local brew selection! Hellooooo Sun King! This place is ridiculous. We paid almos 50$ for our food but the amount we got looked like less than half what you should get. How can you pay 50$ and not have enough bread included for just 2 people after they specifically purchased extra bread.(so apparently you get zero bread for 40$ meals)We got one tiny piece of corn bread and one piece of garlic so essentially we had nothing to eat our pulled pork on. I realize bbq can be expensive to produce but bread is cheap as is cabbage and mayonnaise, which their garbabe slaw cant have any more ingredients than that in it and they barely gave us anything. The sides were like less that 3/4 a cup and you only got 2 for 50 bucks? And they only allowed one sauce for a 50 meal? The value you get is pathetic. If you took a family of five here you'd need a car payment to get full. Never going here again. Don't come here unless you like eating disappointment thats expensive. I seriously cant understand how this place has soo many positive reviews. People must be desperate for bbq and just dont care about money. Because thats the only way Id go here again. Went back here a couple weeks ago and I was pleased to discover the brisket was actually good! Not the *best* I've ever had, but it was the best brisket they had made in the dozen or so times I've eaten here. It held together and had a nice smoke flavor. This return trip was to celebrate my daughter's birthday with family, and we discovered to our dismay that they don't take reservations. Even when you tell them you have a party of 22. Even when you offer to put down a $100 deposit to hold the back room. Not sure why that's their policy, but thankfully we managed to get everyone seated together. read more

Wound up here for a late lunch this past weekend. I was blown-away. This is as close as you're going to get to a Sammy's (Dallas, TX) or Sonny's in Indy. [ I have yet to make it to BBQ Heaven, so don't hold me to that. ] ... my ribs were tasty and fell off the bone. My friend's kids loved their pulled pork. My son did well with rib he stole from me and the chicken tenders I let him get away with ordering. However, I did make him use the BBQ sauce (the original, savory.) It was good. I know what some people might think, this is not a local place; this is just a "fast food franchise". Well this place is pretty amazing. The atmosphere reminds you of the "old west setting". Ribs were nigh perfect. Mac n cheese was satisfyingly cheesey. Baked beans were made with brisket and were flavorful and not overly sweet. The original sauce was their best imho. Their sweet as well as "the brushfire sauce" didn't do too much for the meat. I've been back for the brisket, which is tender, and smokey. Brisket versus pulled pork - order what you prefer as both are good. I've had the beans several times and like them. They have hush puppies as a side, which is unusual. They have good natural cut french fries and they're available with bacon and cheese. My son had the smoked sausage sandwich and he loved it - you can get a 1/4 or 1/2 pound of sausage. Beer selection includes several Sun King varieties and Shiner Bock. I generally prefer the local beers, but I have an unnatural affection for Shiner Bock and Shiner pairs perfectly with barbeque. They have more sauces that I initially realized - regular, sweet, spicy, mustard, and carolina. The first three are thick and seem molasses based to me. I like the mustard sauce, which is not widely available in the midwest. The carolina is vinegar based and spicier than most. read more

The other night, my husband and I had one of those nights where we couldn't decide what we wanted to eat. Nothing sounded particularly good. I was in the mood for some sort of comfort food. We ended up at City Barbeque. This was our second visit. Our first visit was during their grand opening week, and honestly, I wasn't too terribly impressed. It seems that I just selected the wrong menu items during that first visit. When you first enter City Barbeque, you order your food from a menu board and wait in line for it. In that sense isn't a traditional sit down type restaurant, which I expected it to be when I first went. The food comes out quickly, however, so you're not ever waiting long. (Even at their most busy, it was only like 5 minutes.) As you're waiting, you stand next to a row of bottled sodas that you can select from. There is also fountain soda, and their sweet tea and lemonade (which is really good lemonade!). We did dine-in the first time we ate there, and the ladies working around us to clean off tables and whatnot were really pleasant and helpful. The restaurant was comfortable and clean and the decor was spot on for a BBQ joint. The place was hopping that night but like I said, I just wasn't feeling the food. This time I selected the regular pulled pork sandwich combo with hush puppies and their fries (with cheese and bacon for 89 cents more!). The sandwich was awesome and I ate it mostly without sauce, the hush puppies were hush puppies, but the best part of my meal was definitely the HUGE portion of fries with cheese and bacon. The cheese was a little spicy without being like... nacho cheese. It just had a bit of a kick to it. As I said, the portion size was huge! I had my fill and was able to pass about 50% of them off to my husband to finish. We had such a great experience here that night that we returned two nights later because we were craving the fries again! City Barbeque is definitely worth taking a look. The prices are reasonable, and not all of the sides are fantastic (skip the potato salad!), but some are pretty great (get the fries with cheese and bacon!) All their BBQ is delicious, so far as I can tell. As far as their desserts go, they rave about their "famous peach cobbler" and call it a favorite menu item. In my opinion, it was completely gross; flavorless, and greasy. Conversely, I really enjoyed their simple, somewhat plain banana pudding dessert. This is great take-out comfort food! read more

Although this is my first review for City BBQ, we've been coming here for years. Not as much in the last couple, as we've slowed down eating as much meat but it's always been consistently good. A couple days ago, we placed an order by phone for take out, very easy and efficient process. Let me just start by saying, the good ole bbq joint ain't what she used to be. City BBQ USED to be a great place for tasty meats and delicious sides, sadly it is no longer. The ribs were so tough and with the platter, were lacking meat, a couple of the brisket slices were nothing but fat, the chicken was decent. For sides, we ordered mac & cheese, coleslaw and potato salad. The potato salad is truly the best, it's delicious and tastes fresh, it would be my go to side for every BBQ. The mac & cheese was pretty gross, tasteless, not like cheese maybe...I'm not sure how to explain it but it's just not good. The coleslaw was slick and just didn't have a very good taste. I'm very disappointed in the food and in this day and age I just don't know if I'm ok with dropping $100 on food that's truly mediocre at best. Very good BBQ - some of the best BBQ that you will ever have. Everything on the menu is tremendous. You can't go wrong. I wish the prices were a bit cheaper, but BBQ tends to be expensive. I have been to City Barbeque several times! Each time I have really enjoyed the food and so has my family! Each of us like something different but we all usually try each other's so we can taste everything. The atmosphere is nice. It's a little expensive but we do not go very often so it's nice when we do. My kids also love the sweet tea!! It is nice that the have additional seating in a room off of the main area, because we usually have a large group. read more

Delicious! Had the lunch special 1/4 pound sandwich w/ 2 sides. The NC Pulled Pork was terrific. The meat had great flavor, and I enjoyed trying out their different BBQ sauces at the table. Great BBQ and people serving it. I often go for the $1 rib bone day on Tuesdays. The Corn pudding is my fav side dish. Best around and heavy on portion. Pleasant atmosphere with 2 flat screen TVs. BBQ tastes and is smokey. I like the Carolina pulled pork which is topped with slaw. Any time you get a dinner you get texas toast that is very good. The BBQ Chicken is a good quality and large size from a local farm. I prefer the white meat. Excellent seasonal chili with brisket as the meat. Hot tip on the sauce: Go to the service bar and get it hot in a cup and don't use the cold sauce in bottles on the table. Overall a great experience, many happy eaters around you. I loved the half chicken here! It's so tender, it puts pictures of mothers and newborns to shame! I'm not as big of a fan of the sauces, but it's a regional bbq preference. I loved the cole slaw. I don't even usually like cole slaw, but happened to try it from my date's plate. It tasted like summertime epitomized- fresh crisp, yummy. I try to be a frequent visitor and come here once a month. I love how they try to help different people and allow some % to go back to the police! mission trips! schools! and so on.... I really enjoy their BBQ sauce options and highly recommend trying a beef brisket sandwich. Some days are hit or miss on the beef the way they cut it (perfect or somewhat fatty). I generally liked the food, but it was over priced. The pulled pork sandwich was small with a cost of $6.50, including no sides. The bill for the undersized sandwich, one side and a medium drink was approx. $12.00. I feel that I can get a much better value at other BBQ restaurants (namely Smokey Bones and Famous Dave's). Hello, Today was my first time at City BBQ. I order Beef Brisket at almost every BBQ joint that I go to. City BBQ had the absolute BEST brisket that I have every had. And that is saying alot considering how many different places that I have tried brisket in Indy. I give the brisket Five Stars but the sides (mac and cheese and green beans) were disappointing. Especially the Mac and Cheese. I would sure go back here though and get the brisket and just try some different side dishes. The things I've missed since moving to Indy from Columbus, OH. My family & friends. The Buckeyes. AND CITY BBQ. This is by far the best BBQ I've ever had. I've even driven to Dayton & Cincinnati just to get some. Now that it's in Greenwood I'll be getting it even more. Now if you'd just open one up North in Carmel! I usually get the beef brisket sandwich which gives enough meat for 2 sandwiches. I also love the mac & cheese and the corn pudding! The meat was cooked well and the employees were nice, but the tast of the food was very disappointing. I'm from N.C., and was extremely excited about the Carolina bbq. It was sooo not what I was expecting. It tasted like they just cooked the meat without anything on it. The coleslaw was flavorless as well. My husband got the brisket, and was disappointed with the lack of flavor as well. We were given desserts by the cashier. It was supposed to be cherry cobbler, but I'm pretty sure it was bread pudding. This place was recommended to us as the best bbq in town. This is my first and last visit to City BBQ. This location is ill equipped to deal with Saturday evening business. Trying to get drinks and find a table was a disaster. Also, when your menus consists of ribs, chicken, pork, and brisket, running out of ribs at 7:00 is kind of a big deal - especially when the brisket is average at best. Latest update. Went in the other day. Not 1 person in line about 3:30pm, stood there for about two minutes without anyone saying anything and being completely ignored by at least 3 mexicans working behind the counter looking at me. Then finally some American woman walks up and apologizes profusely but by then it was too late. All the but kissing in English in the world wont matter when you hire people who not only cant/wont speak English but will ignore customers on top of it. I asked if i was being ignored because they cant speak English and then heard her speaking in Spanish to them. So, this place works because there are two English speaking people out of 10 running this place??! No. On top of that 1lb - ONE POUND, of pulled pork Q was $13 which is highway robbery and if it werent my dying dogs last meal i'd have walked out. First off, I absolutely love the food here. The one star review is for how they handle catering. I started on a Friday and gave them all my contact information and my exact order for the following week. I get a email from a regional sales rep on Sunday because City Barbeque doesn't take catering orders in the store (or online). I send her an identical order to what I gave to the folks at the restaurant on Friday via email. The rep says that she'll contact me on Monday. I was on a trip, so I didn't miss the fact that she didn't call me back. Now it's Tuesday, four days from my initial contact, and she informed me that they are all booked up for Saturday. I know it's for only 30 people, but c'mon man! If you sold out on Tuesday and I tried to place an order on Friday, who should get priority? Just sayin'. read more

We ate here yesterday on our drive through Indianapolis on our way to Kansas City, coming all the way from Washington DC. It is an informal set up, you order your food at the counter and then it's prepared and your name is called to pick it up and bring it to your table. So we walk up to the counter to order, first thing i noticed was a huge puddle of what i don't know on the floor at the counter where i had to stand to order, the girl working did not greet us other than asking us what we wanted to order, I expressed we weren't from the area hoping to get some recommendations hell even a welcome would have been nice, we got nothing, she was rude and stand offish. Now the food,mediocre at best. The beef brisket had no flavor and tons of fat. The hushpuppies were not good, they tasted of onion and cornmeal and not in a good way. The mac and cheese my kids took one bite and were like this taste gross. The baked beans were awful and looked like they sat out all day. The green beans and collards weren't bad. The bbq sauces were all pretty bad. A lot of food was wasted and it wasn't cheap. I would expect better for 50.00. I went to the restroom to wash my hands and the floor was sticky and nasty. The overall cleanliness of the place was poor. I gave 2 stars since the collards and green beans were decent. Needless to say i would not eat at city bbq at this location or any other for that matter. read more

This place is good!!! My wife and I ate here and enjoyed every bite. We also liked the atmosphere with the blues music. I ordered a Half Slab Ribs Platter with two sides- corn pudding and baked beans w/ brisket. My wife ordered a Half Chicken Platter with two sides- baked beans w/ brisket and green beans w/ bacon. Each meal came with Texas Toast. Everything we ate was very delicious! The meat portions were LARGE!!! The staff was very friendly, even the Manager (Bill) introduced himself and greeted us. By the time we finished our meals, we were too full to eat the Triple Chocolate Cake that we ordered (big enough for the both of us to share) so we took it home. It was so delicious we were in chocolate heaven! We also found out that City Barbeque donates 10% of pre-tax profits to charities and non-profit organizations. After living in Tennessee for a year it kind of gives me an unfair judgement on Northern barbecue. But if you're looking for barbecue around Indy this is acceptable. The ribs aren't bad, can't say the same for the pulled pork, however. Sides are meh. Don't really care for any of their sauces, even though they have a large variety. I guess if it were between this place and Famous Dave's, I would go with City BBQ. read more

Had the Pulled Pork Lunch Plate, about $9 for that +soft drink. The place is clean, and both the sides (greens, potato salad) were good, and big. But, the sandwich itself was TINY. I'd guess it was about 3.5" in diameter. For a moment I thought I'd been served a kiddie portion, but saw two people behind me with the same size sandwich. I guess the idea is to fill you up with the side dishes. The taste was good, but in a BBQ joint you just expect adult-sized portions. Wanted to try a new place for lunch and I'm glad we stopped here! It was busy when we came in but the line went through fairly quickly! Ordered 2 pulled pork sandwiches and an order of fries. The pork was cooked perfectly! It fell apart and the sandwich was delicious! Best pulled pork I've had in awhile! The fries were delicious too! Perfectly crispy and had great flavor! !! Yum!!
