Horrible Horrible Horrible. I've spent the last month growing out my eyebrows just for them to ruin them! I specifically told her that I would like them thick to just clean it up and to make them straight. These are extremely curved and crooked in the front!!!! and not to mention way too thin. Heard great reviews of the threading services here from my coworkers and thought it was time to try it out, especially since I haven't touched my eyebrows in six months! Went in on a drizzling Thursday afternoon and was seated in a heartbeat with no appointment! I quickly explained what I wanted before she started. She didn't ask and I wanted to make sure she wouldn't give me thin eyebrows! Anu was quick and precise! No cuts, tears, or pinches. She was done in 10 minutes. I initially came in for my brows and I showed the woman a picture of what I wanted and she did an amazing job!! After two more times of that, I came in for a Brazilian wax for $30 (my first wax) and while the attendant couldn't necessarily communicate in English she did her best to constantly check on me and make sure I was feeling okay throughout the wax. Decent service, advertises itself as a bargain and that reflects what you get. (Though I've had better service with lower prices elsewhere). I came in for a brazilian wax ($35) and was able to have someone help me right away. The technician was nice but clearly didn't spend time to listen to what I wanted and I ended up with a different style than I typically get. She also didn't care for my comfort and got visibly annoyed at me when she had to repeat directions more than once. At the end of the session, I was sore and my skin was very inflamed and bleeding. Never want to go here but unfortunately it's the closest place to my work. Customer service is a miss. I gave this place many chances but each time I am less than satisfied. I guess it depends on the day you go but nope always their customer service lacks compared to other places where I've been loyal to. I will now travel further to pinkys or perfect look threading salon in midtown due to their kinder service. Too bad there's no pinkys or perfect look threading salon in upper west side! Id rather pay $7 (they charge $8) with kinder people who do my brows. Letting strangers and trusting them to touch your brows is not easy. This is the place that made me write my first Yelp review just so I could warn everyone else. I paid a visit to City Brows after noticing the 4-stars it had on Yelp. What I should have done was investigate some of the reviews. The 1 and 2-star reviews are a lot more accurate. This place butchered by eyebrows. I even pointed it out, and asked them to touch up the parts that weren't quite done right. The lady acted like it was a perfect job, and there was nothing else to be done. Threading is pretty straightforward, and this was no different. Got the job done, and I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. I did have to do a very little bit of cleanup when I got home...just a couple of hairs that hadn't been snagged around my eyebrows. At my old waxing place, they were always good about going through with tweezers and grabbing those kinds of stragglers, but I feel like threading is usually a little less involved that way, and that's fine. For the price, I'm fine having to do a little cleanup work. The one thing that kind of annoyed me is that I was wearing lipstick, and they didn't remind me that I probably should take it off before they did the upper lip. So I walked out of there kind of looking like a clown with lipstick all over my face. Again, easily fixable, but also if I had just been reminded, I would have wiped it off before she even started. But I mean, that's just as much my fault for not remembering to take it off before I walked in. Overall, my brows looked nice and clean when I walked out. Nice shaping (although I keep my brows shaped pretty well on my own), and very painless, which is why I prefer threading to waxing in the first place. As other reviewers have mentioned, this is a very no-frills place....seat definitely had some tape on it hiding a hole or two, and there was nowhere to put a purse, hang a coat, etc. But you can't argue with the price, and when you're in there for less than 10 minutes, ambiance is not the biggest deal. read more

I love this place and I am so glad I found it! I'm jersey and have been getting my eyebrows THREADED since I was 13. For some women it's your hair, bag, shoes, makeup... Eyebrows are very important for me. When I first moved into the city I would go to jersey for eye-brow trips...one day I decided to try a new place- 3 blocks up from old apt was this place and I've never gone back to jersey for a brow-trip since. I've walked by this place hundreds of times but never went in because I couldn't find any reviews on it. Enter brave Yelpers Emily and Fraidy (Thanks, ladies!) I needed a brow clean-up but didn't feel like going all the way down to my regular place in Chelsea, and this place finally had some good reviews. I walked in on a rainy Saturday afternoon, and there were 3 people in line of me already with 2 in the chairs. I think they normally have more staff since there are 4 chairs + waxing/facial area in the back, but there were only 2 when I visited. The wait wasn't too bad although no one really greeted me when I walked in. I'd rate this eyebrow threading as maybe the 2nd most painless I've ever had. She knew what she was doing, didn't try to mess with what I already had, and did a basically satisfactory job. The other woman seemed to be a bit more friendly/chatty, but maybe those were regulars, I couldn't tell. Overall, I've got nothing to complain about but nothing to rave about either--I like this place because it's 2 blocks away from my apartment, but there's also loose thread all over the floor. One of the things, women forget to do when they're "stressed,"-- is that they stop taking care of themselves. I, for one, can attest, that when things are going and I have a bunch of stuff to do on my plate, the last thing I'm focused on is worrying about how my eyebrows look. As long as I don't look like Bert from Sesame Street, it's all good in the hood. Well, I realized one morning, "dang girl, you gotta get your eyebrows did...looking a little rough." So, instead of tweezing, I decided to "treat myself," and walked down a couple of blocks from my place, plopped down at City Brows and had them thread my eyebrows. I prefer threading over waxing because 1) it doesn't leave your skin all red and 2) you're not pulling apart skin-- less wrinkles, ladies! After a couple of minutes-- done. The cost: $8. My arms look so smooth and hairless! I had to do some up close arm shots for a job. I figured I could get rid of the fur. The results I can say are good. I like that for waxing they don't double dip. Though the wax comes out of a roller, and I don't know exactly how much more sanitary that is since they seem to reuse those, too. It just went back to little "heating station" with the others. If they do reuse them, I'm sure some of the wax rolls right back into the container, right? Then the next person gets some of that wax. I don't really care, but thought it might be of some interest to some people. The technician could have been a little more friendly. My biggest annoyance was that not all of the wax was wiped off so while I was walking back home, my arm would get stuck to my purse and shirt, leaving sticky residue everywhere. I have been in serious need of brow reshaping in preparation for my wedding in 9 months (Yes, obviously I'm neurotic!) and I was debating between trying City Brows and Boom Boom Brow Bar in the village. The deciding factor? Paying $8 vs. $20. And with 9 months to go, I figured I had some room for failure. ;) The verdict: Wow. I was beside myself with how good my brows looked! The technicians here are very professional and informative. I came in for a quick brow clean up. The usual threading session as far as what she was doing. Hold...leave it...hold...leave it...baby oil/aloe vera? No thanks. They do a good job and have a few services. The space is nice, clean and quiet especially considering the major street. The price I guess is good for Manhattan ($8) but I am used to Queens ($3). If for some reason I can't get to Queens I would stop by here if in the area. read more

So I had my first not so great experience here a couple weeks ago. It is partly my fault for waiting so long to get my eyebrows done, but I had been on vacation on the wilderness of Maine, so I kinda just let myself go. Anyway, I had never seen the girl who did my eyebrows, I think she may be new, but her skills just weren't up to par with the other ladies. She left my brows looking like two furry caterpillars, not much better than when I walked in! They were much, MUCH thicker than I've ever had them. At first glance I didn't really notice, and the vast amount of tears in my eyes probably contributed to that fact, (Note to self: do NOT wait almost 4 weeks to get eyebrows done!) but after paying and the taking a visit to the ladies room I almost had a heart attack. There was no way in hell I was walking out onto the street looking like that! So I marched back upstairs and explained to the girl that I wasn't happy and needed to have them fixed. In actuality I would have preferred someone else fix my brows, cause I'm not sure she really knew what she was doing, but I know in cases like this, the person who messes up, needs to clean up their mess. So she did, pretty much. I still was not 100% satisfied, but I had already spent 30 minutes in the place when I'm usually in and out in 10. This instance will not prevent me from going here but it has inspired me to request the girls I know and love to work their eyebrow magic on me! read more

First time getting my eyebrows done--walked in and basically babbled on and on about how nervous I was. "I just want, you know, a shape, and I don't really want a ton taken off, but I'm not even sure...what do you think? Do I need it? I don't really know." I think this place is hit or miss depending on the girl you get. Some of them can be pretty rough like my skin is on fire from the pressure of the threading. But typically I do like the shape after. I do emphasize please just keep them as full as possible. I take great pride in my brows and I would be devastated if they were shaped poorly. I have had better threading but in CA. For now, this is my go to place. My face is super red for the rest of the day which doesn't happen at my other place. They aren't the friendliest in there but oh well. read more

This place is abysmal. I had previously gone there but stopped going because they didn't listen, went too fast, and were consistenly so unfriendly. However, when the other shop I went to in the area unfortunately closed due to increasing rents I decided to try again. BIG MISTAKE. I asked for a eyebrow cleanup and a upper lip thread. My eyebrows are way, way too thin now. They are so thin I'll have to spend months regrowing them out before my wedding next summer. The lip was way too fast and abrasive. I have at least ten pimples where they were too hard on my follicles. This is not normal! The technician was unfriendly, didn't listen, and my face is a mess. They didn't say a thing as I left the salon as they were all fixed to the TV watching a music video. It may be cheap, but I would rather spend an extra 10 minutes going uptown on the train to find a spot with better service and nicer people. Eyebrow threading for $8 -- excellent price! Very quick, painless, conveniently located. They gave me a "frequent customer" card, so that after 9 visits, the 10th threading is free. Since I live nearby, that's a pretty solid deal. A friend recommended this place for eyebrows. I used to just pluck and try to shape my eyebrows myself, but ever since I discovered the wonders of having a professional do my eyebrows, I gladly pay to get them done. I used to pay $25-35 for eyebrow waxing, but I couldn't justify spending THAT much. So after hearing that my friend really liked it, and that getting her eyebrows threaded cost ONLY $8, I had to give it a try. The ladies are quick and professional. The space is decent, clean, tidy, and nice enough. There are 4 chairs in the front, and there may be additional space somewhere else for the other services. The most I've ever had to wait was 10 minutes, and that happened only once. I've had my eyebrows done by four of the ladies and my favorite is Kaya. Everyone does a great job, and I've never been unhappy, but Kaya just seems to get the PERFECT shape for my face. I have East Asian eyebrows, kinda sparse, shapeless, weird, poker straight, overgrown and massive if unkempt. I think it must be really really hard to find a flattering eyebrow shape for most East Asian women's facial structures. Anyway, I've always had a fear of being given razor thin eyebrows, or updside-down "U" shaped eyebrows, so I start each visit by saying, "not too thin, just a natural shape." I go to City Brows about once a month, and each time it takes about 10 minutes from going in to getting out. They have an uptown location 2 blocks away, which doesn't make sense to me, but I always go to the one on the east side of Broadway, right next to the subway stairs. The ladies who work there aren't conversational with their customers, but they do talk to each other in their own language. I used to think they don't talk because they're holding thread between their teeth, but actually they can still talk to each other. The first time I went, the woman started with my right eyebrow, worked for a few minutes, then tapped my forehead and said, "ok, hold." I had no idea what that meant, and she could tell by the blank look on my face. So she guided one of my hands to hold down my eyelid and the other hand to pull up on my forehead above my right eyebrow. I guess it's to hold the eyelid taut so they can get at the hairs more precisely. Anyway, excellent service and great results! read more
