My wife and I stopped in for our first visit around 10am on a Sunday. It was busy with a steady stream of customers coming and going, but we were seated quickly. After eating here, it's easy to understand why this place is so popular. I ordered the Chile Colorado Omelette with Country Potatoes, and I took advantage of their awesome substitution option by swapping the toast for French Toast at no extra charge. The omelette was packed with flavor and was incredibly cheesy. My wife ordered the Southern Style Breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, biscuits & gravy, and fresh fruit. My favorite bite of the entire meal was actually the Biscuits & Gravy, they were absolutely delicious. The portions here are no joke. Neither of us came close to finishing our meals, so we're looking forward to some great leftovers. While most entrées are around $20, it's easy to justify the price when you're basically getting two meals out of one. We both ordered coffee, and just like many other reviewers have mentioned, the refills kept coming. We each had four refills. Our waitress, Breanna, was friendly, attentive, and top-notch. If you're looking for a local spot that serves excellent comfort food with generous portions and outstanding service, Garcia's Country Kitchen is definitely worth checking out. My wife spotted this place on Monterey Rd and suggested we check it out, so we drove around until we found it. It was a random weekday and a little later in the day, so it wasn't very busy. We ordered a couple of our breakfast staples, country fried chicken and pancakes. The food was decent overall, nothing mind blowing, but enjoyable. What really stood out was the service, genuinely great. We learned they're owned by the same folks as Southern Kitchen on Monterey, and apparently they couldn't keep the original name for some reason. It's not the best breakfast in town, but it's a long standing San Jose spot, and for that alone, it's worth coming back to support. read more

To further reinforce our decision to leave, we overheard a nearby table raising concerns about their meal--specifically that the rice was undercooked. That was ultimately the deciding factor for us. Overall, the lack of attentiveness and apparent quality issues made this an easy decision. If negative star ratings were an option, this would qualify. Let me start off by saying this restaurant is so super clean. It's Southern Kitchen with a new location and name but the same delicious food. I ordered the Supreme Omelette and it was so big and full of yummy goodness! The country potatoes were cooked to perfection and the pancakes are huge, fluffy and so delicious! My daughter got the croissant breakfast sandwich and it was loaded with bacon and cheese and eggs and the hash browns were crispy and yummy. The portions here are pretty big. Even before they moved and changed names, Southern Kitchen had already gone downhill in quality and taste. Sadly, the only thing that has improved is the new location being bigger and less cramped. The $80 total for a breakfast burrito and two 2-egg breakfast plates was outrageous, especially considering how bad the food was. Everything came out either cold or burnt. One plate of biscuits was dry and burnt with cold, flavorless gravy, while the other had undercooked biscuits with hot gravy. The hash browns were burnt, the eggs were fine, but the sausage was cold and the bacon was just bacon. The chorizo burrito had a strange aftertaste, which I'm guessing came from using beef instead of pork, and they didn't even bother to warm up the tortilla. It was cold with a lukewarm filling. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is for the kind lady and elderly man who kept checking on us and refilling our drinks. Their service was the only good part of the experience. I understand that prices have gone up everywhere, and I prefer supporting small local restaurants over chains. But at these prices and with this level of food quality, I'll be going somewhere else, even if that means Denny's. read more
