25th May 2026 Memorial Day White Plains, NY Partly Cloudy 68°F After the torrential, but much needed rain had postponed our outdoor hiking activities for the major part of the long holiday weekend, it was a soothing reprieve this morning to get out of the house and return to an old reliable favorite. On this somber Memorial day we needed to gather with friends and City Limits Diner was the place to go. I first became aware of City Limits when I saw the documentary of Vogue magazine's, André Leon Alley, who was a frequent customer at City Limits, before the pandemic of 2020 reeled it's ugly head. Somehow I knew, as a newly suburban transplant from Manhattan, it only made sense to visit the place that a worldly Vogue Stylist had dined as my diner destiny! City Limits is one of the most popular diners in Westchester County. You will always feel welcome here, the menu has the usual large array of typical diner menu choices, but with added flair. Every item is good, delicious and fresh. I really like a place that's always full of life, reliably consistent and welcome. Ok, for various reasons, we have tried going back a few more times. Always a good choice. Food is very good. Service can be inconsistent. A simple tuna sandwich is excellent here and I don't know why it's so good. They no longer use Valrona chocolate in their pudding and it's simply not as good. But other desserts are outstanding. City Limits seems to be a go-to restaurant as the parking lot is always full. read more

I had breakfast here on Valentine's Day. Our waiter was fantastic. Really nice and very efficient. We ordered the smoked salmon omelette and the country breakfast. The country breakfast was good, I enjoyed it. Unfortunately, my friend did not enjoy the smoked salmon omelette. I saw her picking around it and not really eating it. She said it was very strange to have cubes of salmon in the omelette. Not what she expected. She said it didn't taste like anything. A little disappointing. Stopped here as the last leg of our NY trip. Glad we did! It's a huge place and we were seated right away! I must say their coffee was amazing just a regular cup of Joe but very good quality- usually I find diner coffee to be meh I enjoyed the corn beef hash - you could tell it was made in house - seasoned well but not too salty as some can be! The poached eggs were perfectly poached! I did not eat the hollandaise sauce as I'm not a fan but I'm sure if that's your thing it's good! My only complaint would be it had very little potato in the hash but otherwise enjoyed it. Our waiter took good care of us - making sure either our coffee cup or water glass stayed full. Warning for those that don't do steps well - if you have to use their restrooms they are located down a steep stairwell to the basement level! I did find them clean and well stocked. read more

Lunch. Seated as soon as we entered - the place is large enough to accommodate a lunch crowd so a wait is rare. The waiter came, we asked for water all around. Sodas and coffee for me. Very efficient service. The drinks came quickly. I was put off by the taste of the water - I mentioned that (but what can be done)? so I stuck with my coffee throughout the meal. Not a bad thing - the coffee is delicious and freely refilled. The food we ordered arrived promptly - a cheese omelette, the turkey wrap and a sandwich. All flavorful and generously served. I've been to City Limits many times over the course of a good 15 or so years, and I can sum them up in two words: reliably good. This time, I gave them a visit with some family and found myself satisfied once again. Like many other diners, they have a very wide selection of dishes and drinks that you can't really go wrong with; similarly, you might have one or two standout dishes that you always gravitate towards--in this case, mine have to be the crispy cod sandwich with cilantro mayo and fries, and the grilled salmon club with dill spread, asparagus, mushrooms and field greens (out of the five of us, two had the former, and the rest had the latter). For the salmon club, the freshness of the arugula and dill combined with the flaky salmon makes for the excellent pairing if you want something lighter, while their crispy cod paired with the cilantro mayo is great flavor combination if you're fine with something a little heavier. While they have plenty of options for drinks, I opted for their cold-pressed orange juice--you simply can't go wrong with it. Likewise, the service is great, and the aesthetic is, all things considered, slightly upscale for what you might expect for a diner. This restaurant has been good enough to keep us coming for over a decade, and I can say with fair confidence that this isn't likely to change anytime soon. read more

Upscale diner menu, not as extensive a menu as a traditional Greek diner, but more appropriate for when a family member says they don't want to go diner in general lol. As everyone is saying, any of their food items that are from their onsite bakery, or star their crabcakes are always ideal. We were in a rush, so my wife had the taco appetizer and I had a Swiss omelette. Both a little pricier than comparable diner fare by about two dollars per meal, but seemingly worth the price. The waiter was very considerate and attentive. According to my wife as we were leaving, the take out rice pudding was killer. Named the best Diner in Westchester 2025. City Limits Diner in White Plains absolutely lived up to the hype. I was visiting my son, and he suggested this spot since he's eaten here a few times already--always a good sign. Even better, the place was packed on a Tuesday at lunch, which says a lot about how many returning customers they have. He ordered a burger, and I went with the steak and fresh-cut fries. Everything was delicious. The steak was cooked to perfection, exactly how I asked, and the fries were hot, fresh, and clearly made in-house. Great food, great energy, and clearly a local favorite. I came here for brunch and it was delicious. I ordered the spicy chicken wings as an appetizer. Then I ordered the crab and lobster Benedict which was ok. It came with some potatoes that had chives. I enjoyed the wings they were crispy and flavorful. The blue cheese was also really good and creamy. The eggs Benedict was good and the cake did have some crab, I did not really taste the lobster. I would order another item next time, I saw a lot of pancakes and burgers. While the Benedict was not bad it was not something which was memorable. The egg was cooked well, the consistency was good. I also ordered the hot chocolate which was very good. The service was good; the space is really big so we did not wait for a table. The environment is friendly and inviting. Our FAVORITE "diner". Besides their famous Orange Waffles, and various breakfast dishes (LOVE the sausage!), we love their lunch and dinner menus too. Chicken Loaf is always delish, and their hamburgers are amazing. The reason why I gave 4 stars is because they're so busy, but understaffed sometimes and we can't get the servers to help us right away. It's probably the same reason why it's always very loud in the restaurant and parking is a problem. It's a good problem to have, I guess, but for customers, it can be a hassle. I came here for breakfast on a Saturday around 9:30. It was busy, but we were able to get a table immediately without a reservation. They have a pretty good breakfast menu, somewhat similar to a classic diner, but pricier. I ordered the huevos rancheros. The dish was tasty and fresh, and they were able to swap the eggs over easy for scrambled. The portion size was a bit small. My dad had the smoked salmon omelette, which came with multi-grain toast and shredded potatoes. He enjoyed it and had enough for leftovers. They have a large bakery selection in the front of the restaurant so you can buy pastries and desserts without dining in or take something to go after finishing a meal. We have been coming to the City Limits diner for over thirty years. For many years it was my family's favorite restaurant where we would go for wonderful breakfasts, lunches and dinners. A few years ago we moved from Westchester to Manhattan, however when we're in the neighborhood, we often will come here for a meal since we know their food is always consistently delicious. Yesterday we had some errands to attend to and we came to City Limits for lunch. Although it was Fter two in the afternoon, their large parking lot was filled with cars but fortunately we found a space and given the size of yheir dining rooms we were quickly seated. Ruth was our waitress and we each had delicious salads. What really impressed me was something I never experienced before. We were planning to visit friends and I was thinking of bringing them a large container of chicken soup. When we first walked in to the restaurant, I noticed that in addition to their retail bakery, they had containers of soup for sale. I asked Ruth if the soup was very salty and her immediate response was that she didn't think so but offered to bring me a small sample so I could taste it for myself. Within a few minutes, Rith returned with a small bowl with the doup that was indeed not salty but absolutely delicious. Of vourse we ordered a quart and asked if she could add it to our bill. I assumed Ruth would just get one of the prepared containers from the retail department but instead she returned with a quart of the soup from the chicken in a bag with fresh bread. My friends were delighted with their gift and we were very impressed with Ruth's dedication to providing us with a wonderful lunch and great service. read more

The focaccia grilled chicken sandwich sounded good but the focaccia bread was a bit too spongy and soft to properly hold the chicken and veggies. A few new menu items have been added since Covid-times, which is a relief given that this place severely trimmed their menu at the onset of the pandemic. The recent additions include spaghetti and meatballs, breakfast burrito, ham and cheese croissant sandwich, acai bowl, and others. The spaghetti is fantastic -- better than what you may find at a pizzeria; a generous amount of garlic elevates the tomato sauce, and the creamy ricotta on top adds depth to an otherwise ordinary dish. Not to mention they give plenty of meatballs! The breakfast burrito is also solid, but texturally it's a bit of a wet mush. Steer clear of the smoked salmon omelet. The salmon is diced into tiny cubes and the onions would be better if they were caramelized more. Also, the babaghanoush has changed -- it's not very good anymore. Tastes store-bought. Packed diner on a Monday holiday lunch - lots of folks here. Parking was tight, and the lot had a terrible smell, I think their trash hadn't been taken out and the lid was open, so the smell wafted over the whole area. Inside, clean and simple bakery upfront with a desk, large space inside for seating and a lot of people enjoying food. The salmon benedict was ok; the English muffin was actually quite tough even though I left it for last with the egg and sauce all over it. The calamari coating fell off the calamari and the marinara was ok. The chicken sandwich was good on first bite, but then rapidly revealed an overly charred piece of chicken in most of the sandwich, which was not the kind of flavor I enjoy. Hashbrowns were a square about 3" x 3", and didn't hold together well.. would've been better crisped up a bit more. Ice tea was $7.50/2 cups on the table (apparently a free refill?). There is a free parking lot for customers of the diner. The entrance has a bakery area for muffins and other treats. We were seated quickly and our service was excellent. My husband remarked on how efficient and on top of managing his area that our waiter was. The food is good. The waiter recommended the gluten free blueberry almond muffin and my husband loved it. My second visit to City Limits Diner was much better than my first. I think it was because I asked my server for advice in what to order. She suggested the soup of the day which was a Chicken Shrimp Gumbo and it was delicious and satisfying while at the same time fulfilling all the needs of "diner soup" (not too spicy, all the vegetable chopped into tiny bits and cooked completely through). But it had enough of a latin flavor to it to feel special. I also ordered the turkey burger with a salad instead of the fries. The bun on the burger had a nice cake-like brioche quality to it. And it came with a well prepared cranberry sauce on the side. The salad was fresh and the lettuce was varied. The beer menu is more adventurous than the wine and I ordered a delicious IPA on draft. For dessert I had the fruit tart, again at the suggestion of the server, and it was a generous portion of glazed fruit that had been fresh when it was prepared sitting on top of a tiny pillow of light custard with a touch of caramel taste to it. The flakey tart crust was surprisingly light but held the delicious fruit and custard mixture in place. And the single espresso that I ordered with it was a real espresso. It is a large place and you might need to flag down a staff member if you need something. But I found the service to be friendly and efficient. Good value at a reasonable price. I've only been here for breakfast and have never had a bad meal. Challah french toast, lox loaded bagels and orange waffles are all faves. There's never much of a wait, if any, and service is prompt. After our meal, I was walking to the upstairs restroom. Since I use a cane, one of your waitresses came over and kindly held the door open for me, even reminding me to "remember to lock the door." The biggest compliment to any business is a repeat customer and I have been eating here with my family for years. The food is consistently fresh, delicious and the atmosphere is family friendly and not pretentious. I've tried most of the dishes on the menu and they are all delicious. My family leans pescatarian so our favorites are the lemon orange waffle, the cod sandwich, shrimp wrap and the crab cakes. The bad--and dare I say grumpy reviews, baffle me. You go to this place on a Saturday or Sunday morning and thank your lucky stars to get a table because there is a crowd and the parking lot is bustling. The wait is usually short though. The food is reliably good at a decent price. That lemon orange waffle is pure magic, with REAL maple syrup! I am a serious foodie and have eaten at great restaurants all over New York and the world--and must confess this is the only diner I have comfortably and consistently dined in.
