I have eaten at City Limits many times. I have always thought that the food was good-plus. But...recently ordered the chicken salad for lunch. Instead of fresh chicken, it came with chicken deli meat, which was tough and pretty disgusting. I ended up sharing my friend's lunch. The first star is for the ambience, the second star is for everything else. This used to be a diner. Now, I don't know what it is supposed to be. Stopped in with a friend, it was fairly busy and the lot was full. Figured it must have improved since the last time I was here. NOPE! We both ordered the crispy cod sandwich. When it eventually came the filets were two different sizes. Both paper thin with a lot of breading. The cilantro spread couldn't even be seen there was so little of it. The sandwich is more lettuce and tomato on a thick bun. $16.95 is asking a lot, for so little in return Great if you're a vegetarian. Asked for a little more sauce to make the fish a little moister. That took a while, in the meantime the fish was getting cold. See the photos. The fries were inconsistent; some were nearly raw, others hard as nails and the few big ones were on the top. There were loads of little potato shards in the mix. Again see the photos. None were peeled; I wonder if they were washed first, before they were put through the potato slicer? Looking around at other diners, most were having Breakfast at 2 pm. That should have been a clue. Their food looked great! G-d forbid if you can't use stairs; the bathroom is in the basement. After the food was brought over by another person. You couldn't find our waiter, if there was something else or refill the sodas we might have wanted. Even getting the check was a chore. I went downstairs to the main level with the check and a MOP. I was told the waiter will ring it up. We could have dashed and dined, but that's not us. About 15 minutes of trying to find the guy I gave it to another server : signed, left a tip (I don't know why, but it's traditional), and left. NEVER will I return. Had eggs Benedict - very salty and undercooked eggs. The muffin was dry and tasteless. Along with the hash browns, which were chewy, and felt like they had been sitting on a hot plate for a while. Dry and yuk. Although we only there for a while, I felt eyes on me the whole time and we were being rushed out even though the table was not needed. There was no ambience, so we will not return. We came here to eat after viewing an apartment, I have personally eaten her often. The ambience alone is inviting. I ordered the St. Louis ribs, salmon burger and cheddar cheese burger. A favorite of mine for years. Well prepared foods of all types, Italian, deli foods, burgers, and more . . . a good diner to go to eat. I do like their shakes as well. Place is good but beginning to show signs of age ... can use some touching up - - - but don't let that deter you, still looks good and more importantly, clean. Nice little bakery inside as well. My only concern is the staff, young, good intentioned, but really need a more hands on manager to mentor and train them better. Being next to the Westchester County Center means busy, and lot of locals go there as well, so keep that in mind - - - it is big but often busy! It's been soooo long since I've been here and we were in the area so it was the perfect time. When we went inside, every other table was seated and the employees were wearing masks so I felt comfortable dining in. I was a little concerned due to the number of cars in the lot but there was no wait time and everyone was adequately spaced out. We decided to come here because I absolutely needed to get the Mac & cheese. It's so delicious and hard to find anywhere else that tastes that good plus offers gluten free pasta. I even checked the site before getting there to ensure they still offered it with the gf pasta. Unfortunately after placing my order, I was informed that they didn't have anymore gluten free pasta. I was really bummed because that's literally all I wanted. I ended up getting a burger without a bun and my fiancé ordered his favorite grilled cheese. He really enjoyed it. We've practically ordered tons of City Limits' take-out meals during COVID. And after 9 months of hubs and I physically not dining here, we decided to sit in for breakfast while our hardwood floors got sanded, restored and stained. Any given Saturday morning pre-COVID, you'd be waiting at least 1/2 an hour for a parking spot right in their already-huge lot. At this juncture, that's not the case. Wall hand sanitizer has been placed after the second door entrance and glass partitions installed between the 'upstair' booths and seats facing the Westchester County Center. City Limits is well-kept and jazzed up for the Holidays and service continues to be friendly. My Smoked Salmon Omelette is wonderful and their famous Berry-topped, orange-hint Waffle still rocks with that powdery sugar sweetness. Plus everything else on City's menu for that matter, is good, unfussy food. But it's their 'Special' Hot Chocolate that has grabbed my attention for ages. On my recent visit, sadly found out that because of COVID, they did away with some of their staff as well as the 'Special Hot Chocolate'- which I'd devoured in the past. Oh, how I love a New York diner! Came on a weekday for lunch with my colleagues. There's a ton of space indoors, but only a handful of round tables outdoors, and luckily, we were able to grab one and sit outside. It's nicer and more modern than your average local diner, but no need to dress up or anything. I got the oriental chicken salad, and it was delicious. Loved the crispy taro strips on top. That was something else! I've never had that before and wish it was more popular. I wish there was more chicken, because the salad is mainly vegetables, but it was still filling. Had the side of fries and that sure hit the spot, too. Service is fast and doesn't interrupt your conversation at all. I'd gotten a Seltzer and it was constantly being refilled. I'm here to update my review. I now work at a spot that is closer to the restaurant and have picked up food on my way home a few times out of necessity. With the exception of one bad experience, I have to say that the service has much-improved. I have ordered by phone, arrived and ordered a drink at the bar while waiting on my takeaway, brought the food home and been satisfied despite a few misses. There are many items you just can't go wrong with, like their city limits burger, salmon sandwich and turkey club. I would probably skip their onion rings as the breading is not executed well and falls off the onion like cheap drywall (picture posted). Their milkshakes alsare also not that great. I'm not sure what kind of ice-cream they use but the first and last milkshake I got from them tasted like they used water and milk to make it. It was terrible. On a brighter note, their serving sizes are enough where we each are able to split in two and the quality of the food is pretty good. I would also suggest that, if you are ordering any of their wraps to-go, check the ingredients and have them pack any watery ingredients separately, such as a salsa or dressing. I ordered a shrimp wrap and asked them to pack the dressing separately but forgot about the sale and once I got home to eat it, the tortilla wrap just about disintegrated. In recent visits, when I have arrived to pick up my food, even when they've been minutes to closing, the bartender has been attentive, acknowledging me when I sit, which is appreciated. I hate going into a business and have to yell across to get someone's attention after having been waiting for 10-15 minutes. Especially when the staff sees you walk in and the place is not busy. Whomever brings me my order is also very nice. I feel way more welcomed as opposed being a bother, as it felt in the past. I can see a turnaround and while I might not go out of my way to venture here, if I am in the area, I wouldn't mind stopping by for happy hour or grabbing some food to-go. read more

We first became aware of City Limits Diner on an episode of "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" with the second appearance of Ricky Gervais on the show. We were scheduled to travel through White Plains anyway, so decided to stop by. A+ in every aspect. Extremely friendly and efficient wait staff without being obsequious. Outstanding breakfast food: real hash browns and amazingly fresh heuvos rancheros with amazing flavor. Great toast, well toasted. Superior sausage link. It's a very upscale diner - if you're looking for your classic hometown diner where you get a flat omelet and can replace hash browns with fries, this isn't the spot. This place almost imploded when I asked for fries instead of hash browns. The omelet was big and fluffy and very filling, and the potato thing was pretty good but honestly it's so much food I couldn't finish it all. The rye toast was amazing I don't know why but I loved it, and the iced coffee was very watered down and bitter. Overall really good food and very fancy "diner." So off we went when a tree took out the power lines at home and the electric stove was useless. It's a beautiful place. The service attentive enough. I found the menu strange as it was all over the place but not in typical diner fashion. The kids picked out a burger and a BLT, both with fries and around $16. Not too bad but $16 for a BLT seemed high. All I wanted was eggs. No section on the menu for that. Our waiter said no problem, we can do that. I should have seen it coming. 2 eggs, short stack and a sausage.... The food came quickly. The burger was good, the fries crispy and well seasoned. The BLT was meh. My eggs? Perfect. I wasn't thrilled with their special maple syrup but other than that, perfect. Until I received the check. $25 for my dish? WTF?? I knew I was going to get screwed as it wasn't on the menu. I handed the waiter my card but let him know that the price was outta line. He said they get that complaint often but nothing he could do. It was my mistake for not asking but that price was just obscene. That's $2 of food on the plate for $25? I get the cost for a restaurant is in the wages and rent but omg, it didn't make sense. The waiter ran my card and offered up a manager who came over promptly to chat. We politely went back and forth, he also indicated this happens regularly and the owners are aware but it's their restaurant. Had I been told it would be $25 ahead of time I'd feel different, a $16 burger would have sufficed. In the end, the manager gave me a credit... I had already paid, but I've not seen that on my card yet. Would you pay $25 for two eggs, two pancakes and a sausage? In a county that's already lean on acceptable diners, I am crossing this one off the list. Deceptive and out of their minds. Won't be back. Both Poppy's breakfast in Rye and TNT in Harrison put out eggs as good if not better at half the price, although they are only open during the day. This is my absolute favorite place to get chicken noodle soup. It's so flavorful and full of noodles, celery, carrots, and shredded chicken. I highly recommend trying their banana cream pie as well - to die for!! I ordered the house made red sangria, spicy fried wings (sweet and spicy) and city diner BBQ Burger. The sangria had raspberries in it. Which made a perfect compliment. The wings were fresh and tasty. But weren't sweet and spicy at all. They were buffalo wings. I ate every wing. Yummers!!! The burger was huge and delicious.
