Ok, I know I should be leary of salad bars right now with all of the coronavirus fright going on but I can't resist the salad bar at La Provence in the White Plains Bloomingdales store! Usually I will get a lunch entree off of the menu which automatically comes with a small plate for the salad bar. I always really enjoy the food at the salad bar and can barely eat my meal when it comes because I am already full! On my last visit there, it was late and I knew I'd be going home to sit and eat dinner only a few hours later, so I wanted to eat lighter since I also had a long drive ahead of me. I decided to go for their salad bar option, where they give you a larger plate for the salad bar and then you can have either soup or the famous Forty Carrots froyo to compliment your meal. I think this is the way to go for me going forward. I was able to enjoy the fresh salad and foods from the salad bar that I love, with a little treat of froyo at the end (which I never end up getting when I opt for the meal because I'm usually way too stuffed). What I love about the salad bar is there is so many options for salad- usually greens, bean salad, macaroni or potato salad, and other options as well. Many dressings and toppings as usual in a salad bar, and then there's always a hot option which is usually chicken wings or meatballs. My favorite part though? The POPOVERS!! Yum! Not many places make popovers and they make me very happy in all their carby glory. I've also had their steak quesadilla, Orchard Chicken Wrap, Short Rib French Dip, which were all delicious and perfectly paired and made. Their hot chocolate is super chocolatey and sweet, it hit the spot on a cold day. La Provence at Bloomingdales is a place where I would label as a "ladies' lunch" spot. There were two gentlemen there so yes it can be a men's lunch spot too, don't want to offend anyone. They offer light fare and heavy on the salad options. I was underwhelmed with the menu they gave us so asked if they had a brunch menu which I saw one online before arriving. After a few minutes one was brought over to us which was not what I saw online but it added options. Each item was individual priced or you could make it prix fixe for $25 which included their famous frozen yogurt and a beverage. I opted for the Breakfast Balboa which I typically wouldn't order but it was the only thing "floating my boat." Much too hearty to be considered a light meal option so there is this. The Balboa was served open faced on a toasted baguette cut in half with shaved cooked roast beef, melted swiss, caramelized onions and perfectly fried sunny side eggs, one on each half of the baguette. There was supposed to be a garlic-chipotle dressing on sandwich but I think they forgot it? I am sensitive to hot seasoning although I like it so I took a chance it wouldn't be too hot. No worries because it was absent from the sandwich. The potato wedges were delicious, crispy and had nice seasoning. The lemonade was my beverage choice and I enjoyed it. It was smooth and not tart. When I called last week to make a reservation, I was told it wasn't needed for a Saturday. Good thing we went at 11:30 am because by 1:30 pm every table was taken. A good portion of the people dining were eating the frozen yogurt so it stands to reason because its so popular it must be really good? I use to frequent Forty Carrots (back in the day) which is their counter top service next to the restaurant and loved the frozen yogurt. There were three flavor options: plain (guessing plain is vanilla), chocolate and coffee. I opted for plain and that is what I got. When I inquired if it came with any toppings, I was told no so I asked if I paid extra could I get strawberries and I was obliged. The fee was nominal for a couple of strawberries cut up but that didn't add any sweetness, it was still sour/tart. I added a sugar packet to the strawberries but it didn't really help. So, what's all the hype about? My taste buds must have changed because while it was very creamy it was sour. I convinced my friend who is a yogurt hater that she would love it because that had always been my past experience. After one small taste she made a face and said, "tart." Then I tasted and agreed. I have to accept the reason I may have enjoyed it previously was because of all the toppings I use to add which likely masked the sour flavor for me. I know that totally defeats having frozen yogurt as opposed to ice cream. All and all it's not for me but from all the frozen yogurts coming out of the kitchen and being taken out at Forty Carrots I seem to be in the minority. This restaurant was a nice, quiet place that was tucked inside the Bloomingdale's store. I went here for brunch last week and ordered the steak and eggs. The waitress said that the salad bar was complimentary. The salad bar had the usual fixings: rolls, pasta salads, vegetables, etc. The food at the salad bar was decent. I asked for the steak to be medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. The fried eggs were a little bit salty but the tater tots were good. This is a nice place for lunch if you are around the area. read more

I've been coming here for 30 years, before it was La Provence it was 40 Carrots. Huge Bloomie's frozen yogurt fan. La Provence was also great up until recently. The last 3 times we ate at La Provence the food was disappointing. Today we had lunch for my Aunt's birthday. She ordered the Salmon which was incredibly salty. We all had yogurt which was great. I hate to be negative about the service because I've worked in the industry but the service was pretty bad today. I feel like La Provence could have an incredible BRUNCH scene for Westchester, but they didn't even offer a mimosa with their brunch menu. Disappointing. Of course we will be back from the Yogurt but I probably won't order an entree off of the menu again. read more

I am giving the restaurant 4 stars because the place was full, busy, everybody seemed happy. Three of us went today (we were here together here about 4 years ago!) and were really in a hurry. We told the Maitre D and he said, yes, we could eat and get out in less than 40 minutes. Now, we had about 35 minutes, my daughter asked the waitress if we could be out by 1:45 and she said yes. We were seated at a nice big table, ordered fairly quickly, my 7 year-old granddaughter loved being able to have things from the salad bar that I was entitled to and did not want. She had hard boiled eggs, broccoli (steamed), a bread stick and some chicken pieces then her grilled cheese arrived accompanied by french fries and she gave it an "A-OK!". My mango chicken salad with sugared pecans and goat cheese was delish. I had the waitress pack it up early and just finished it up at home where I am writing this. We got bathing suits and jeans with help from Bloomingdale's staff before we went to lunch. We were all very happy and my 7 year old had her "Little Brown Bag" with the remaining grilled cheese and french fries. I highly recommend the place and the staff. They are great. I am one of the few, by the way, who does not like the frozen yogurt not even one bit. I have eaten in the big restaurant and at the lunch bar. It is a little on the pricey side but probably not for Bloomie's shoppers. read more

Maybe it's gone down hill but I've gone here twice family (there's always a solid contingency of 20-somethings meeting their parents here for dinner) and I've never really enjoyed it. First time I had some seafood thing that came in a heavy, overly garlicy (and I love garlic just ask my roommates who have to deal with my cooking) cream sauce. Second time I got the risotto which might have been more nastily garcliy. First time the salad bar was rad, second time it had some nasty chilled watermelon salad thing that I didn't touch and some admittedly decent Peruvian Chicken and Rice. Overall just not worth it- this is Westchester, land of restaurants catering to 20-somethings meeting their parents for dinner and ladies who lunch. And La Provence just strikes me as subpar in that regard. read more

La Provence is certainly one of the best casual restaurants in the area, and its convenient location inside Bloomingdale's makes it an excellent place to have a meal while shopping. Just follow the signs in the store and you will find the restaurant, tucked into a corner on the top floor near the rug department. The moment you walk in, you will be greeted by a friendly host or hostess who asks if you would like to sit at the counter or in the dining room. Pick the dining room if you wish do dine at La Provence. There may be a line to get into the dining room at lunch hour, but you will eventually be shown in by another host or hostess and led to your table. The restaurant has a great selection of items to choose from on the menu, such as soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and other entrees. There is also an extensive salad bar that you can select as your entree, or pair with your meal. The service is almost always friendly and prompt in the dining room, and the large lunch crowds are effectively dealt with. And of course, the star of the show- Bloomingdales Frozen Yogurt!! Besides the standard plain, coffee, and chocolate, there will usually be another one or two flavors available, such as cheesecake, strawberry, butter pecan, mango, and peanut butter. It comes in two sizes, large and regular. The portions are sizable, so save room on your entree and salad bar. Your trip to La Provence wouldn't be complete without some of this amazing yogurt!!! read more

I was very surprised with the high quality of the food given that it's located in a department store. I used to come here as a kid and recently came to eat here. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with avocado and fresh cheese. It was really really good and it tasted very fresh. I highly recommend stopping by if you find yourself at Bloomingdales. The only reason I am giving 4 stars is because the food is way overpriced. read more

Had lunch with a co-worker here and was beyond impressed with the mod decor, friendly service, and excellent food. Great menu with a gourmet salad bar including the best marinaded mushrooms, orzo, popovers and clams in marinara. We both had the poached pear salad with grilled chicken, pistachios, and Gorgonzola with raspberry vinaigrette. Fabulous. I'm lucky to work nearby and will make this hidden gem a regular lunch spot. Been coming here for at least 15 years. Before the frozen yogurt CRAZE commenced. Their plain yogurt with Melba has always been what I order, along with salad bar. I love my beets and their food selection. Service is awesome. Not a great fan of the snobby guests, but I come for my tummy, not them. read more

We planned a 60th surprise cocktail/dinner party here 2 weeks ago for about 40ppl. While most wouldn't think of this as a venue for a party, it was the best choice for us! What a fantastic night to remember! Adrian and Umberto were top notch! They were super attentive, accommodated all our requests, and on top of all that, the food was delicious and the service was awesome! The presentation was perfect, and everyone enjoyed their time. Great service. Humberto and Adrian are awesome and very accommodating to special needs. The salad bar comes with your meal and is very extensive. Yummy stuff on the salad bar! Waldorf salad, different greens and veggies, quinoa, chickpea mix, beets! All fresh! And get this... chicken wings! There's always a hot dish on the salad bar, it changes each day. Sometimes wings, sometimes mussels, meatballs, etc...You can call ahead and ask. The service is so wonderful and most of the servers have been there for many years and are extremely efficient and knowledgeable of the restaurant and it's menu. I really do think this place is better than most of the restaurants in white plains. My go-to is the chicken paillard. Hubby gets the Salmon. Tuna salad to go for tomorrow ;). Go here, you won't be disappointed. And don't forget to finish off with a famous frozen yogurt. I'm all about the plain with rasp Melba. My sis likes the chocolate. Terrible experience today! Hot dish on the salad was mac and cheese, except the tray containing it was not there, just an empty bin over hot water. After about 15 minutes I requested the manager come over to speak with me. When I told him about not having the hot dish out on the salad bar he replied that they pulled it because customers complained that it was not hot enough so there were reheating it. It finally came out after my main dish arrived so I was longer interested. When I told the manager that the hot dish is a major part of the salad bar and how disappointed I was, he did not offer any kind of compensation, barely an apology. And as far as the remainder of the dishes, they were a big disappointment. 3 of the 6 dishes had broccoli which I don't like. The cold pasta dish was tastless. My friend complained to the manager who brought it back to the kitchen and they added some dressing to it. There was no fruit and almost no variety. This used to be a great salad bar! Not any more! This used to be an enjoyable experience. The food HAD tasted good and the service was always just ok. I had to send back the sole francese, was over salted and had a weird taste. I don't want to take any chance with fish that's not fresh. I ordered something else instead, but the waitress charged me for the more expensive dish! She said it's because I ate the french fries that came with the sole. I did eat most of them, not all of them, while I waited for her to return to the table to ask if everything was okay. She never did, so for quite a while I had to look for her. I never! Of course, the manager adjusted the bill. While the setting was cozy and stylish, my friend and I were seated in a dimly lit section of the restaurant while there were several tables open in the brightly lit section by the windows. The waitress was polite and attentive, but the food was close to awful and beyond overpriced. The Salad Bar alone was $18, but for $1 extra ($19 total) I ordered the veggie burger that came with the salad bar. When you think of a salad bar you picture all kinds of toppings. They had a few including hard-boiled eggs, croutons, corn, and a couple of others. The prepared salads included a "crab" and chick pea one made with imitation crab and was way too heavy-handed on the salt. The carrot and pineapple salad had little flavor, and the interesting looking whole grain role was bland. They also had some hot dishes that I avoided that looked like rice and sad, overcooked chicken. The veggie burger no different than the frozen ones you can buy at the supermarket. The only thing tasty about the whole meal was the small serving of sweet potato fries they served with the burger. For two people the tab came to $43 before the tip, and there are so many great places in White Plains where that amount could have gone so much further. Will not go back for the food other than to try the yogurt which sounds very popular. read more

La Provence Restaurant, within Bloomingdales, is probably my absolutely favorite place to eat in all of Westchester and beyond. It is a jewel in the area and much better than any of the NYC's Bloomingdales restaurants. It is in the back of the store, the chairs are all a comfortable lounge style and it has an albeit fake fireplace to add to a cozy secluded feeling, overlooking the woods of the neighboring Burke Rehabilitation center. The service has always been stellar, just like the store itself. What is really great about this place, is that all meals include their salad bar, which is not just a variety of lettuces, but will include extras like chili, anti pastas and even shrimp salads. The prices are also really reasonable. I'm addicted to their poached pear salad, which apparently is one of their top sellers. A part of me is resistant to even write this review, so it doesn't remain one of the secret locals, other than for those who are privy to this fabulous restaurant. read more
