I would have to say this is one of my Favorite stores. City Mill in General. I love to create and attempt to garden and just get lost in these stores. They always have what I want and somethings I don't need but buy anyway. I have never had anyone come at me with an attitude when I need help or questions on materials and products. If I am bored I have been known to kill an hour in City Mill. I don't usually come this way very often when visiting the Windward Side of Oahu, but they had one thing that I really needed that the other locations on South Shore didn't have, and the Kaneohe store certainly came through. It's kind of easy to miss the driveway when arriving, and the store is located right near Windward Mall and their parking lot is rather small and tight at times. They are more worried about theft than customer service. After my bf and I tracked down someone to unlock the item we wanted to purchase, went to the line to PURCHASE the item.. even PAID for the item, the store clerk had the audacity to tell us there was a bag check policy and that upon entering the store we were supposed to drop the small bag that we had off at the counter. There was no one to tell us that when we entered, so how were we supposed to know? We were there to purchase a padlock! I could've and should've just went to Longs. We ran up to the door at the event moment they were going to lock the door. The guy let us in because what we wanted was close to the front door. Elroy saw us and immediately came to help us. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE ETTIQUETTE..Because I called to ASK about 2 GARAGE CLOSET DOORS where the latches could not grab onto, SCREWING in by a carpenter, AS I PULLED on the left side, the latchthat has perforated horizontol hole for the turn knob to turn, locking it in, this store mngr name, Kalab, Kalib, or Kayla and not a common name so I MAY have spelling wrong but pronounced that way, AS he was not friendly at all compared to Hardware Hawaii, talking about the material of these hollow cardboard doors, 36" × 80" as inside these doors, supposed to have borders around inside of perimeter to be able to screw in a LATCH but with only 1/2 ", contractor tried to have screws connect to border but had difficulty, and sure enough, when I PULLED on the left side LATCH, it came right out, and under that seemed like hardened cardboard. I think most places like LOWE'S, HOME DEPOT, CITY MILL and even Hardware Hawaii have these cheap degrading doors at 1/2" of wood inside around perimeter. Only ACE or YAMASHIRO'S BLDG Supply have theirs at 1.5" as that seems ridiculous but most BLDG improvement stores have it as half inch except YAMASHIRO'S or ACE as they're all franchise owned. Bit this mngr if was a woman, I'd think going through estrus, AS maybe I was not clear but I do know he was pissed, just by his tone of voice, and earlier in conversation saying door knobs, as I said of garage closet doors, and one thing is for sure, they don't make them like before. If I could attach a photo, you'd be able to see the atrocious quality, esp just pulling on it, came right out. Manager Kalab, I am sure if I personally talked with you, would have turned out different. I HEARD you after call ended saying, "Oh My God" after I said that they sure don't make um like they did, before and he said he didn't know how they made it before, have a nice day, end of call with, "Oh My God" not to mention, you need to be lucky to get an employee that knows about anything, one of Kaneohe City Mill's biggest flaws, but glad they're continuing and do hope they prosper.. as I have talked to Stephen, owner of City Mill, AS he is a very personable gentleman. This place is the best! I used to shop at Hardware Hawaii in Kailua since we live only a few blocks away. This was until the last few times I went there and was assisted by sexist morons who kept telling me that I can't do something because I'm not a man. I decided to take my business elsewhere and I'm so glad I did! Last week I decided to paint our walls and refinish and paint the ceiling. I came across a few problems because of the texture on the walls and ceiling and wasn't sure what to do next. We also got a new washing machine delivered this morning and it turned out that the valves were too corroded to be used so they need to be replaced. And above all that, the delivery men cracked our hardwood floor :/ I was feeling so overwhelmed with all the work and wasn't sure if I could get everything done by myself. So... I drove to Kaneohe to visit City Mill and and ask them for advice. Everyone there was super helpful and no one doubted my abilities to get this all done! I was able to get everything I need and for a very reasonable price too. None of that "You should hire a professional... or have your husband do it" that I get at Hardware Hawaii. Ah, I can't even begin to tell you how much better I feel about my home improvement project after visiting City Mill! Today I returned an $18 desk lamp that was defective (switch mechanism broke), no receipt, no box, no questions asked, exchanged for new one in store. Manager that helped me was Tini. I've also had positive experience going there for a propane gas tank fill, and overall very happy with their offering and customer service. We have shopped City Mill-Kaneohe, since 1999. I used to love the service. Yesterday my husband and shopped for first a plastic storage cart, then decided on a larger 4-tier shelf unit. When we arrived we asked an employee to point out the area where the shelving units were. He looked at me for a few seconds then proceeded to take about 10 seconds to answer. Now I'm not against older people working (I'm 71) but it was like being in a twilight zone. We proceed to the area found the "very heavy boxed unit" and between my husband and I, tried to load it in a shopping cart. We succeeded and moved on to checkout. The cashier seemed unfriendly and preoccupied, took our payment and we proceeded to our car. Not once did anyone offer to help with loading this heavy unit into our car, so my 73 y.o. husband and I struggled to get the box into the car , which has drop-down back seats. I'm not sure what is happening with CM, but I see why people are shopping at HOME DEPOT. Too bad, as it nice not to have to drive to town to shop home improvement stuff. Used to love City Mill, but no more....sigh. Went back to get another shelf today. (5/9) Someone helped my husband load it in the cart and someone else helped load it into the pickup. great place to come when trying to fix/replace/renovate fixtures in your house. came here to buy a bathroom sink faucet fixture as well as a new shower head. they have a huge selection of items for every "diy" person who has the time to attempt any fixer upper task. they carry everything; from plastic containers, fans, light bulbs. screws. dressers, screen door covers, wood... etc. and surprisingly enough even croc slippers? wth? and you can even pick up a nice cold beverage or ice cream cone while standing in line to check out. boy, they got you covered on all bases. we were helped by this very friendly guy who managed to answer every question we had and give us pointers on how to increase the water pressure for our shower. thanks dude :) read more

I was very disappointed with my visit. City Mill advertises their "Price Match Guarantee - WE WILL NOT BE UNDERSOLD". I asked them today if they would price match Lowes on a mirror I was buying. I had been at Lowes earlier in the day and wasn't sure if the mirror was the right size, so after going home to measure, I didn't want to drive back to town and stopped in at City Mill. Lowes had it for about $6 cheaper. The lady at the counter said they would price match competitors in-stock items if I brought in the ad or a receipt, but since I didn't have one she couldn't do it. So I said, "Oh, so your price match guarantee is limited to items in a competitor's ad? The sign didn't mention that." She said, "No, we price match with an ad or a receipt." Of course I had to kindly argue with her.... So I said, "Well... how would I bring in a receipt? I'd have to buy the item to get a receipt... why would I come here if I already bought what I need?" She said, "You know, if you need more of the item and want to buy it here, you can bring in the receipt." So I said, "Well, can you call and verify the price?" She said, "No, we won't call." Hmmm... So how do they verify the competitor's item is in-stock? Anyway, my conclusion is that their prices are higher just like Ace's. They are smaller local stores and located in convenient areas. I shop at Ace in Kailua all the time. I don't mind paying more for convenience and to support local businesses. What bothers me about City Mill is that they widely advertise something that they clearly DO NOT do. Just a week ago, Home Depot price matched Lowes on a door for me. The difference in price was $70 because Lowes was having a 5 day sale on it. The Lowes by Home Depot did not have the size I needed in stock and it was a different brand, but the same looking/quality item that Home Depot carried. I told the sales person that I didn't want to drive to the Waipahu Lowes for the door. He said he would see what he could do. Five minutes later, he said he would leave the price match notice with the self check out cashier for us. Now THAT is standing by your price match guarantee! read more

My husband went to City Mill Kaneohe to get some lumber. He had loaded up some lumber and needed assistance with more lumber that was on a wrapped pallet. The person working in the lumber department said that he could not sell him that lumber "because it was not inventoried and could not sell....he would have to come back tomorrow". The person didn't even want to see if there was something that could be done....that was it...conversation over......come back tomorrow! My husband left the store...didn't even purchase the lumber he he had selected....left it all there with the person and left!!!!! He called Wayne's Lumber in Kaneohe told them what he needed and by the time he got to their store....his lumber was pulled and waiting for him!!! He later called City Mill Kaneohe and spoke to the supervisor on duty and explained what had taken place at the store earlier. And that he was very upset and dissatisfied with the way the store employee had handled the situation!! He wanted to let management at the store know....that this employee needs training in customer service!! read more

I showed the staff a photo of the dresser I was working on and they walked me through step by step what kind of tools,primer,paint etc that I would need. They were so helpful! The store also had pretty much anything you would need for your home like assembled furniture and decor...beyond just tools and things. It was great. read more

We went in one afternoon, to buy a security door. Now, being 2 women (myself and my Mother-in-Law) we had NO idea what we were to look for. So, prior to heading over the City Mill, we watched a video online on how to remove and install a new door. The video indicated that there were to be a device included with the door for easy installation of the door. We asked a lady about the tool, and she didn't know what we were talking about. SO, she asked this man who normally works near the screen door area. You can't miss him, he has glasses. She went to ask him, and we were telling him about the video we watched and just wanted to know about the tool. He got so mad at us and started yelling and telling us that we don't know what we're talking about and that he has been working there for years and no tools are ever included. Now, having just saw a video, we didn't know any better. We told him that. Rather than he say kindly explain to us, nope! Full argument. And he said if we take the door home and find the tool, we could "come back and he'll tell us where to stick it!". Unreal! Manager said he would talk to him. I had a bathroom light bulb burn out and dont like showering in the dark so I had to change it. The person who installed the fixture must have just picked the cheapest fixture but the bulb was nearly impossible to find. It had the two prong twist to lock, not the standard screw in base. After looking at four other hardware stores (some big box national chains too) I finally went to WIndward Mall to do some other stuff unrelated to the light bulb. Leaving the mall parking lot I thought maybe I should try City Mill. I already thought I would have to special order the bulb online but why not give it a shot. I stopped by and they had the bulb! Home Depot doesnt carry it in stock at all and City Mill had a shelf full of them. CHERRY! I got my bulb and headed out the door. No more pooping in the darkness for my family! LIGHT! CITY MILL! do not buy tools from here. i purchased a pair of crescent side cutters ps5429c about a year ago with lifetime warranty. yesterday they broke so i returned for a replacement pair. the older gentleman informed me they look used i said yes they were. he told me if i dont have receipt i cannot exchange i have to call crescent co. i called them and they said i have to pay to ship to them then they decide if warranty is good. just go to home depot no questions or receipt needed if its broken they replace as a good customer friendly company should. will not shop here anymore. read more

As I walked in I grabbed a FREE copy of the Hawaii Home and Remodeling Magazine and proceeded to conjure up some home improvement project I could start so I could get some goodies. Oh yah, I wanted to put the kids artwork up without putting holes in the wall. I proceeded to an employee and said, "I want to run a cable from one end of my kid's room to the other to display artwork. How can I make that happen?" This laid back, hard working gentleman took me straight to the hardware section and picked out the eye hooks I needed for my 1" thick red wood walls. Then took me to each of the next aisles I needed till we had all the ingredients for an awesome art wall for the kiddies. He even got me a basket to put it all in. SUPER SERVICE! I am all about excellent customer service and today was a great day for that. The cashier was also friendly and genuine. Genuine! That's another big one for me and is a must when i shop.
