Great food always, friendly service, and reasonably priced. This is one of the Twin Cities hidden gems! Pat F.

I'm not a huge brunch person, so I liked how there were some Asian fusion flavors and dishes. I thought the pork belly was flavorful, the bubba's gump was crispy and well balanced, and the chicken with the waffles were cooked perfectly.

The whole menu was interesting. The surf and turf was octopus and beef tongue. $13. My wife liked it very much. Meals were about $12 to $20 dollars. Mixed drinks about $10. They have a very interesting flight of mixed drinks for $20. You get to try 5 items. About an ounce and a half each. The deserts were the surprise. About $7 to $9 and very good. Not too large but enough. We are looking forward to going again. ************ Always good food and fun drinks Red headed stranger $15 very good Two people got cocktail flights $6 per shot and each in a different style glass. We had a good time and our friends had not been before and said they would be back. As of course will we.

We both grew up in NYC's suburbs/ worked in manhattan until 2000 and then moved to VA MN FL and back to MN. The well discussed homeless situation we find in outstanding meticulous control by the very attentive St Paul Police who know the community on a first name basis. (Weekends you don't see them, and during the week only spotted. They never approach us.). I have worked with the impoverished communities in Harlem, Boston, Richmond, Va and Mn as a volunteer and a few full time positions in Boston. Catholic charities has done a REMARKABLE job supporting/effectively aiding the entire homeless community in the Twin Cities! As a result, we are very comfortable walking anywhere during the day and early evening. So with great joy we joined hundreds of others on St Paul's famous " Train Days" with family and grandson. Then we went to 1881 for a light lunch for the first time. They were happily packed, and all the diners were voraciously downing their meals for a considerable time. I saw a beautiful " fish and chips platter" and will definitely come back to try it for dinner. The setting, ambiance are stellar! The main majestic thrilling lobby of this venerable giant ELEGANT old train station-- more beautiful than NYC and Boston's but similar to those in the Canadian Rockies ( took the Canadian Pacific northern route in 1970 w 70 lb backpack fr Vancouver to Detroit... unforgettable). This majestic rare location....makes the dining experience unique and wonderous! We both had excellent martinis expertly prepared and their famous French onion soup and salads. Our family ate croissant sandwiches and a wonderful egg dish. Beautiful exhilarating awe inspiring places like this have almost completely disappeared all across the USA. Old world cooking and meticulous good delicious seasoning is also FAST disappearing. Places like this desperately NEED us to survive. HIGHLY recommend!!! Enjoy!

This was our first time here and we heard about it because of the makers market they had. They only had a couple vendors in the lobby, but it was still nice to drop in and have an excuse to grab a holiday drink. Pro tip - do not sit at the bar if you're hoping to watch planes. There's no good window to look out of when sitting at the bar. I wish I asked for a table since it wasn't too busy!! I had the hot cocoa drink and it was delicious! Hit the spot and definitely made me warm and fuzzy. Our bartender was so great and we had the best time. I'm definitely coming back and sitting at a table facing a window.

Previously, the food saved it from itself. The dining area is so noisy, and the tables are jammed into each other - there is no way to get in or out without bumping into another chair - but for good food at acceptable prices, it was worth it. After the last visit, the food isn't worth it for me. On this most recent stop, several of the regular items i had gotten had been discontinued, and I could find nothing else that was appealing, so I went with their omelette special. It was disgusting. I ate the individual elements by themselves, so that it wouldn't be a total waste, but much of the bacon just tasted bad - not undercooked - just bad, like they didn't know how to make bacon. The decline in food quality seems to mimic the overall decline in this establishent. I can't foresee ever going back. PS The Service was good.

It's a really cozy moody interior, with *no big lights* aka great low lighting and comfy seating options. When we went, there were just a few other parties there so pretty quiet. I liked that we had a whole corner to ourselves with a sectional couch of sorts and some chairs. They close at 10pm on a Friday night, which felt absurdly early for a cocktail bar. But, we were able to order and drink one drink during the ~45 minutes we had. They closed up shop promptly at 10pm. They had a classics and a "rumors" section of the menu. I didn't think the signature drinks were overly unique, with classics like Paper Plane making that menu side. I had a pomegranate mojito which was good! Consensus was that the cocktails were good not exceptional, especially for the $16-17 price point. We ordered churros for the table which were a table favorite! I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again, but we enjoyed our time and could see this being a good option if you lived in the neighborhood and don't mind the early close hours.

There was only one guy waiting tables and working the bar and he did such a great job on such a snowy night. We started with some apps; the French onion dip with homemade chips, loaded fries and Brussel sprouts. Those were all tasty and I enjoyed the homemade cheese dip that was on the fries and wanted to eat it with a spoon. We then each got a burger; funny is that we all chose a different one. We like to stay and chat and catch up about what has happened since last month so we decided to order dessert. My two friends each got a slice of pie and I only wanted a bite of my sisters pie and made a joke that I only wanted a bite and the waiter over heard me and he actually brought me a small slice on the house; he was so nice and I wasn't expecting that at all. It was such a nice booth that we were in and the restaurant wasn't very busy so we pretty much had the whole place to ourselves. I could sit there for hours and just chat and relax. I can't wait to go back and try more food next time.
