My young daughter and I decided to come in about 8:30pm on Saturday night and we're from San Diego so we were excited to try something new. Place was full and cheery, we only waited 10 mins for a good table. We ordered lasagna with mushroom cream which was delicious but pasta crust at bottom was overcooked and dry, even then we thought it was great tasting and were hungry and so I ate the top. She ordered another pasta with grilled chicken. That was good as well. Outstanding? No! I was a little disappointed with service but noticed other people enjoying their food so we continued on. The service was not bad - the waiter was cordial but blah - we even tried to joke a bit but he wasn't in the mood to smile. Dinner for us both with one glass of wine and two pastas was $128 dls. No dessert - we decided to find somewhere else more welcoming for dessert. For that price I think we could have done better. Maybe just a bad night?? read more

Came to this little hamlet in the heart of Los Feliz with my family and left nourished, in both belly and soul! Oscar was our server and took great care of us! We were there at 6pm on a Sunday night but they filled up quick, so I highly recommend a reservation. At dusk, candles are lit and the ambiance becomes warm and intimate; the perfect setting for date night, a birthday/anniversary, or just catching up with friends. We ordered the meatballs (polpette filanti) as an appetizer, which were perfectly moist and tender and blanketed in melty mozzarella (tip: save the sauce for your bread!!). I ordered a special, the Fusilli Toscana (Sun dried tomato, sautéed spinach, and sweet Italian sausage in a light cream sauce), and as much as I wanted to finish it, I deliberately saved half for a bonus lunch the next day! I also stole bites of the Brie and albicocche (Brie, prosciutto, and apricot!!) ravioli in their Bianco and Rosso sauce and I just about died in my seat. *chefs kiss* As if it couldn't get any better, ordered the Pansu (espresso panna cotta) and Tiramisu for dessert and right then and there swore to return when anyone comes to visit me or any time I wanna take a friend out and treat them to a wonderfully authentic Italian hidden gem called La Pergoletta! At least a little. The pasta was prepared like I like it. Lots of seafood - and I liked it. I just didn't love it. Nothing bad about it - just didn't have the knockout blow for me. Very sincerely, I have hesitated to write a review for years only because I fear that everyone will find out about this place. La Pergoletta in Los Feliz is without question one of my all time favorite restaurants anywhere. My wife and I call it our Lady and the Tramp place because it always feels like falling in love when we eat here. Very relaxed in feel and temperament with a dash of old world kitsch, a can't miss menu and a truly wonderful staff that treats everyone like family, Sweet Lorraine and I have been eating here for years and hope to continue for many years to come. Affordable, casual and comfortable with outstanding food that you'd pay a premium price for anywhere else. Some of my favorite items are the incredibly delicious and tender Polpette Filanti appetizer (their meatballs, small or large are the greatest anywhere!), Chicken Parmesan, Eggplant Parmesan (when they have it... bellissimo!!), Tagliata alla Crema di Funghi (I like it with Fettuccine, they make all their delicious pasta in house), a great Caesar salad with Anchovies (if you so desire), Carbonara that really is to die for... and if you're really, really lucky, the moon's in the sky like a big pizza pie and the stars are aligned, their Osso Bucco is the best I've ever had!! It was tasty! Salmon was not dry. We wished it came with the same sauce as the branzino but the risotto helped with that. Incredible service from the get go. I went here for the first time with my girlfriend for our one year anniversary and was greeted very nicely by the hostess and was served by Jesus who was nothing short of amazing. My girlfriend and I initially chose to sit in the lower section on the inside portion of the restaurant as the ambiance was very welcoming. It felt upscale but still kept a nice "homey" vibe. Little did we know, until we sat down, that it wasn't personally right for us at the time. My girlfriend is pretty sensitive sensory wise, so I kindly asked Jesus, before we received our food, if we could move to the outside section (which was also just as nice and kept the same vibe), and everyone was very understanding and accommodating. The food was also nothing short of amazing. Very flavor packed, good portion sizes, and decent prices, especially given the experience. Pasta was cooked perfectly and hit the spot just as I needed it to. On top of that, they gave us a complimentary 1 year anniversary tiramisu, and as a fellow tiramisu fanatic, I was very impressed! Came here for Valentine's Day with an 8:30 reservation only to see a giant line of people with reservations and the hostess nowhere to be seen. Eventually she came back and said the kitchen was backed up so she was seating 8 and 8:15 reservations first to space them out. We ended up being seated 15 minutes after our initial reservation (so at 8:45 instead of 8:30). The service was kind of slow and it took awhile to get bread. I could tell the pasta was freshly made because everything tasted perfect. I ordered the tagliata di crema fungi and my fiance ordered the ravioli with crema fungi sauce. Let's just say he asked for a spoon to scoop up all the leftover sauce, that's how delicious it was. Would definitely come back here again despite the late seating and slow service. I've been here for their dinner service, but recently came for their lunch special and was very pleased with my experience. I came right around 2pm on a weekday and it was such a peaceful time to dine. Their lunch menu is perfect and it comes with your pasta of choice, a soup or salad, and a soda for $21. I opted for the rigatoni etrusca which is basically like a creamy bolognese (yes it's as good as it sounds). If you like to chat, this is the perfect spot to go because you don't feel rushed lol, but if you're in a time crunch the servers can be a bit hard to track down. We split the garlic bread and the bruschetta bread and they evenly served all 5-6 members of the table. They even gave us extra complimentary, and that was so kind of them! I originally ordered some kind of pasta with steak, but I ended up changing it to the salad version of the pasta - I DEVOURED IT! The steak was cooked beautifully medium rare (just how I like it) and the vegetables in the salad tasted very very fresh. Each bite had a perfect crunch. I really want to come here and try every dish! There was street parking in the neighborhood for free in case you can't find any in the parking lot. What keeps me from giving this place 5 stars is the service. The last time I came here was on a Saturday night and we waited over 30 minutes to be seated despite having a reservation. The hostess and our server seemed very overwhelmed and stressed and the the place overall felt understaffed. We had to ask 3 times to get our waters filled once and our server never checked in with us to see how the food was. I love Pergoletta and I do recommend it, but I think the service could use some improvement! I do find it's a lot less crowded and has a more pleasant environment on weekdays. read more

When we think of standout Italian restaurants in Los Angeles, the usual suspects come to mind. We all know the names. They are chic, expensive, in impossibly tawny neighborhoods, with the same dishes they have served for decades. That's what we like about them, right? And want to be seen in them and say we have been there. That is exactly what is wrong with them too, and why La Pergoletta really "gets" Italian food, including the quality of the ingredients, the care that goes into the preparation of each dish, and the sensibility of the culture that created the most popular cuisine in the world. The location and the look of this neighborhood treasure are rather unprepossessing (in fact, my only recommendation is that they take another look at the entry -- it could use a bit of refreshing to make a better statement about what is to come). Once you get past that, you start to see why people rave about it. Inside, it is reminiscent of many little places I have seen in Italy, and some I love in New York and elsewhere in LA (and have reviewed some of them). The decor is quaint, warm, culturally authentic, and charming. Everything is very clean. The welcome is effusive, as if they truly are honored that people have chosen to dine there. The menu is astonishing. In addition to copious excellent choices, there are items you don't see every day. As, for example, polenta -- cooked to perfection here, as good as any Nona could make it. Or filled gnocchi -- how often do you see that? In fact, we are lucky to see gnocchi at all! One of my litmus tests for an Italian eatery is the quality and accuracy of the gnocchi. La Pergoletta knocks it out of the park. Here's another thing I love about it. You get to choose among a dozen or so homemade pastas and then combine them with a dozen or so sauces. The bread is unusual, with a tender crumb, and crispy crust, again made in house by someone who knows how to make bread (not easy). The salad is put together carefully with fresh greens. There are a half dozen or so Italian desserts to choose from. The coffee? Lavazza, of course, the best! We went on a torrid afternoon where the mercury read 103F and rising, not typical in Los Feliz. That enabled us to really absorb the vibes of the place, which started filling up as the afternoon aged. As people came in, they got the same royal welcome. The prices are very reasonable, the portions are ample without being overwhelming (hence, we took three boxes home). Notice the Limonata? That's the kind of soda Italians actually drink -- not our chemical laden pretenders. Btw, there is a deli attached so you can come in and get things to take home every day except Sunday. Now, how great is that? Come on an empty stomach so you can sample as many delicacies here as possible. I know I will have to return again and again to try everything I wanted on that menu.
