Went for happy hour this past Saturday with a group of friends. The place wasn't very crowded and we arrived with about an hour left of happy hour. The best way to describe the place is a dark upscale speak easy bar. The happy hour sliders, chicken wings and tater tots were fair to good but service was slow. The drinks were good but we ordered basic cocktail drinks. Overall their happy hour last an hour longer then most other restaurants in the area. The happy hour food was a little lacked luster and our server was slow and didn't pay much attention to most of her tables. read more

Friday, Aug 31 we stopped into this venue and sat in the cozy and lovely back room. Our sever was Angelo-- OMG -- **BEST** -- restaurant/bar SERVICE I have ever had in my 19 years in Seattle-- sincerely. I hail from NYC and just have not had an experience where the sever was not only extremely knowledgable across a large number of libation categories, but also fun, pleasant and extremely accommodating! I had a question about amaro nonimo -- and from there an amazing wealth of information, learning, tastes and fabulous end to the evening! I do a lot of hosting for out of town business clients and this place will be top on my list-- but only Mon/Tues or Thurs/Fri when Angelo is working. Management-- you somehow need to clone him! This is only the second time I have posted a Yelp view -- I never have time to do this, but our experience with Angelo made me find the time-- that is how enjoyable our time in this lounge was... Thank you Angelo for making our evening so absolutely enjoyable-- and the tip you provided that we can order from the Lark but eat at Civility was great news-- we will definitely be regular, returning customers. read more

It's super easy to miss, but in the W Hotel elevator alcove is a true gem of downtown Bellevue. An incredible selection of bourbon and scotch that you have never seen before and expert bartenders to lead you through a tour of them. Quiet and intimate with a great menu, it's a perfect place solo, with a small group, or on a date. read more

Generally this place is great. I came for my birthday and I accidentally forgot my ID. I told the staff, and instead of plainly telling me to get my ID, I got some extremely sassy responses from the manager about how I could go somewhere else instead. I don't think this is anywhere near professional. I understand that there are rules, but the way the 'manager' spoke to me was extremely rude. This was some pretty disrespectful treatment. I understand getting treated like this at a low class establishment, but I expect better from Civility and unrest. I hope that you increase the quality of your staff. For a special day, the treatment I received from your staff was genuinely disrespectful. I honestly won't be coming back, and I don't think I will ever recommend that anybody come here for anything even close to a good time. If you want a celebration, go to a Wendy's or a Chik Fil A's. Yeah I am good on this, it is designed like it came from Vice City and awkward seating with too bright of lighting. However the most important part is the product and it is not really good. Almost all the drinks are served in the same up glassware and are very sweet. I had the Look, civility and unrest and Ma-na-ma-na and all were $12-$16 and just not balanced. I just feel that this place is undecided on if it wants to be a mini club or cocktail/speakeasy so it is both. Bellevue doesn't have much so I would come here if you are avoiding a chain and hanging around the mall but, I would not make a special trip. read more

Was there with my girlfriend and a group of 6 friends about 9 days ago. They lost my credit card which isn't a big deal if handled correctly. My review is not based on losing my card but rather how the manager Eric handled the situation. Instead of being apologetic and accommodating, he was the complete opposite. When I asked to speak to the manager about it... his response immediately when he sat down was "my server said that you wanted to speak with me so what do you want me to do throw a $1000 at you?" Needless to say I was in shock based on his opening approach but also how rude he was. There was no apology. I was told they knew who the guy was that had my card, he was a regular so they could get it back so I wasn't sure if I needed to cancel it or not. They said they would call me back after they recovered the card. 9 days later I have yet to get a call back, even after I called in and left a message for a call back on an update of the situation. read more

If you come in with a large group, be sure to keep an eye on your bill. They have auto gratuity (auto grat) for parties over 6, (might've been 8; the minimum is irrelevant for this review as there was about fifteen in our party) but what they don't say is that when you get separate checks in the group, the auto grat amount is of the group total and split across all the check evenly. Let me breakdown exactly what happened. I was in for a friend's birthday party and (as mentioned earlier) he had invited about fifteen people. Some people in the group drank combatively, slamming down beverages about as fast they could order them. Others (like myself) only had one before everyone left for the next stop on the agenda. We asked for separate checks, waitress said no problem and off she went. She was gone for a little bit (no worries at all, I understand it takes time to split a bill of that size) and when she returned she started handing out the bills. I was stunned when I got mine to see an auto grat in place that was almost as much as my one drink. Apparently, when they auto grat here they add up the entire check, then split the tip across all the checks evenly. A great savings for the people running up huge bar bills, but not such a great thing for people that only want a single beverage. Either stop allowing people to split a check in a large party, or adjust the auto grat to only do so for the beverages that individual actually consumed. Price aside, Civility and Unrest has a great concept and their drinks are good, I just wish I didn't have to leave with such a bad taste in my mouth after experiencing this billing practice. Maybe nextx time I'll be sure to say I'm not with the group! read more

I dropped by on a Friday night at around 9pm but decided to skip this place after taking a look at the menu. If you are going to charge $8 for a beer or $16 for a cocktail (before tip and likely before tax), you better have the most amazing selection, ambiance and location. This establishment lacked all three. Bellevue (and some places in Seattle, sadly) seem to be moving towards being ridiculously overpriced. Even Canon, with its expert bartenders and incredible selection, is more reasonable. Just not for me! read more

I don't leave many Yelp reviews. Solid food. Great cocktails... and almost no staff. Took 15 minutes to get a menu and water. Took 25 to get a drink. Second drink order was able to place an hour in. It's not a great spot if you can't order anything. Please hire people even if you have to raise prices to make it work. I would highly recommend the Waugh burger though if you decided to wait for it to show it is really amazing. Started as a 2 star review up to 4. Just go after 7pm. I did like the drinks down here better than I did upstairs and they were on happy hour which saved us from the high prices, but like upstairs I found the service to be slow. We sat at the bar and it was a Thursday at 5pm with maybe only a handful of other people in the whole place and it still took upwards of 10-15 minutes to get two drinks. Decent little spot to wet your whistle. Situated on the ground level of the Westin Bellevue. You won't even know where it's at because there is a wall covering the place. You will notice a bouncer outside a single door ready to check your ID. There isn't any other way to describe it's inconspicuous appearance. Interior is very typical Bellevue, always trying to be swanky and over the top. Like a wannabe LV in a sense. Drinks are decent but comes with the pricey Bellevue tag. It was $13 for a simple jack and coke. I spent $50 on myself with a couple cocktails and a shot which is about right in this area. Lots of hot women, hot guy, and a really hot bartender(at least when I was there). Definitely come dressed well even if your wallet doesn't match. It's always fun to play dress up. read more

This speak easy style bar is pretty easy to find, just go into the W Bellevue lobby and catch the elevator down one. When you come out of the elevators it's on your right. The decor is really nice and intimate which I loved. We walked in at 7pm on a Wednesday night and it was easy to grab a booth. I was excited to try Civility & Unrest out as we are severely lacking in decent cocktail bars in Bellevue. I wanted this to be a bar my Seattle friends would be happy to come to Bellevue for. Unfortunately I had a lacklustre experience. Since I'm currently pregnant I asked for the bartender to make me a mocktail and said I liked pomegranate. What I received was juice in a cocktail glass with a lime. I was pretty unimpressed as I know that if you are a good mixologist/bartender then you can do some pretty awesome things with mocktails. Service was fine, not excellent. I'll definitely come back when I'm able to drink alcohol as other people have mentioned that they like their cocktails. read more

I've been to this place about four times now and I think it has a very nice atmosphere. There's never too many people in the bar which is nice. I would say if you're looking for a more peaceful and fancy bar, you should go here. But their drinks are a tab more expensive than the other bars in downtown Bellevue. read more

AMAZING drinks! I was incredibly surprised by some of the combinations of ingredients to make such delightful concoctions! Staff was very friendly and attentive and ambiance was very trendy. Great for a date night or small group but the space is too small for large groups. Definitely will be going back for after dinner drinks if I am in the area. read more

Worst bar ever. If you go here w a date,wife,girlfriend don't go. The staff here main goal here is to slip phone numbers to patrons. I watched this happen to the person and his wife next to us. Then the same Bartender did the same to us 30 min later. Angelo should never be in this business not working in a bar. He is the reason patrons hate bar's like this. Food was sad and bland. The drinks were overpriced and very weak. All the bartenders cared about was the next conquest. Your better off dealing with the young ones in belltown bars,than going here. The Owner should clean house and really release Angelo from working here. His only goal is to steal partners and get laid. That is a horrible way to do business. read more

The ingredients were so fresh and the drinks had more than just a mixer and alcohol. The two I had, had real fruit and didn't taste like some flavored syrup. Amazing job bartender: I wish I remembered her name! As for the food, also amazing. It's hard to find good happy hours with good food. Earls and Joey are like McDonald's compared to this place. I got the waygu burger and fish and chips and slit it with my friend. The burger and fish and chips came out smoking hot! Just as any meal should, but sadly a lot of restaurants fail at this. The bun was so soft and the meat was perfectly medium just like I asked. The fish and chips had this spicy sauce and it tasted so FRESH. I am so pleased with this place. The service was also good, it was pretty busy in there and our waiter was very attentive as well as the bartender. My boyfriend and I love this spot. The bartenders and servers are all so friendly. I first went here while out celebrating my birthday with a group of 8. No reservation had been made, but Drew said wait half an hour and he would find seating for us. On a Saturday night! And he did and we got great service the entire time. Civility & Unrest is AMAZING!! We absolutely love this bar!! The staff are amazing and the drinks are delicious!!! The ambience is the tie-breaker. Joe (Dietrich- the new gm) and Parker are phenomenal! If anything, they've only honed their craft during the "hiatus". If you're feeling adventurous, just let them know what kind of alcohol you like and what kinds of flavors you prefer and they will craft you an amazing drink. If you're super nice, you may see a little bit of fire, which gets quenched by liquid nitrogen (which is super fun!!) If you're lucky enough to be seated in the back, it's a more laid back environment. You can carry on a conversation with the person(s) you're with, without having to shout or yell next to their ear. We are so glad that these guys are back and will be coming in as often as we can! Welcome back!!! (And congrats Joe!!) The reason for the one star is that they charged us a mandatory service charge of 20% and then stated that the bar retained that completely and you can tip the servers on top if you want to. There are two areas to this place, the front bar or "civility" part of the bar which you see when you walk in, and the back bar or "unrest" part which is in the back. The back area is where they make the more fun drinks that use smoke and liquid nitrogen. It's also more intimate with couches, chairs, dim lighting, and music. The drinks are pricey (it's Bellevue) but good, and we really enjoyed the atmosphere. However, I'm giving 4 stars (it would be 3.5 if I could) because one of the bartenders was really rude to us, and while the drinks were good they were expensive, and they add a mandatory 20% gratuity, which our bartender did not deserve! read more
