Ropa vieja from Clandestina. Comes with beans, plantains, rice and a salad.

A little piece of the island with so much heart and an unmatched "sazón". We went on a rainy day and the special was ajiaco, a soup filled with chicken, potatoes and yuca and it's the kind of soup that gives you a hug and takes you back home. We then tried the Cuban, which even though it is of American origin (look for the article on Clandestina in the SF Chronicle) and it was like no other one we've had, the pork is perfect. A few days later we saw their pop-up at Berkeley Bowl and ordered the "ropa vieja" a Cuban specialty of shredded beef that came with beans, rice and plantains. So rich and flavorful. Just perfect. The owner is so nice and community-oriented and really elevates the Cuban presence in the Bay Area. The 14th street Eatery is a lovely space, with lots of tables and huge mural honoring the community and just good vibes. Go try out their food in San Leandro and now also every other Sunday in Berkeley Bowl West. --------- Un pedacito de la isla con mucho corazón y un sazón inigualable. Sabor casero que viene directo de Cuba. Clandestina definitivamente es un restaurante cubano que debes probar en la Bahía.

If I could give this 10 stars I would. My meal here today was truly one of the best meals I've had in the last few years. The combination of flavors was so exiting and delicious. The loaded yuca fries are my favorite! The Cuban sandwich is excellent and LOADED with meat. The flan is so smooth! I can't wait to go back and try the bowls. The owner was working and she is a literal angel. The dining area is cute, cozy, and super clean. It's housed in a E15th Eatery Kitchen so there are 2 other vendors in there too which is super fun.

Wow! The Cuban sandwich blew me away. Piled high with delicious lechon, it was a feast! Had a side of yuca fries and the limeade. Highly recommend !!

This is a one woman shop that sells delicious Cuban favorites! Came in on a Saturday at 3pm and the food hall was pretty empty. The owner warmly greeted us and provided great service. The food took a little longer (20-25 min) but it was worth the wait! Everything was tasty and had great flavor. My favorite was the loaded yuca fries while my partner loved the rice & beans combo. Definitely recommend and will come back again.

This place makes me want to visit San Mateo just to eat here!…read more I am currently on a very difficult journey to try everything on the menu, but the problem is I keep wanting to reorder the same staples, especially their famous Cubanos. Everything I've tried has been delicious, and the sauces are seriously amazing. They make their own chimichurri sauce, a super spicy habanero sauce, and a creamy white sauce that somehow makes every bite even better. The fresh juices are also worth trying. You can tell they're actually fresh. This spot is flavorful, memorable, and absolutely worth going out of your way for.

Went on a hike nearby and found this place for food afterwards…read more It's a small restaurant with some outdoor seating as well, right on El Camino. The place wasn't very busy . They have a variety of options , including salads, bowls, wraps and sandwiches. They also had multiple customizable options for vegetarians or vegans that included impossible patty, broccoli or veggies . I got the Quesawrap with Maduros ( plantains ) and veggies options. It came with a side salad as well. Unfortunately , they made the wrap with some seafood or meat , the 1st time. Luckily ,I checked before eating and notified the staff. They made a new one for me and comped off some amount from the bill. The staff was very friendly. They also have a bunch of interesting sauces . Would try this place again

Overall subpar flavors and absolutely not worth the long wait…read more I came across this vendor through a festival unfortunately they are not equipped to meet the demands of event goers. Hopefully their catering is better. Waited over an hour for empanadas, rice and plantains. The food was sadly overcooked, skimpy and not worth the cost. I do think with some operational improvements they may be able to overcome their current obstacles.

I tried empanadas from Dona Aida's at the Latin Food Festival in San Jose. My personal opinion is…read morethat it provides the best experience when you use them for catering and a reasonable experience when you try them at an event like a festival. I ordered both the crab and Cuban empanadas when I visited them at the San Jose Latin Food Festival. Their empanadas are made-to-order, which is great in theory as you know they are fresh but also resulted in waiting almost 30-45 minutes. The empanadas were definitely tasty but not necessarily worth the long wait. Now I should mention that the festival itself was a complete flop (if I could write a review, it would be two stars)... besides this place, there was literally one other taco truck and a Puerto Rican food stall. There were quite a few people in attendance at this festival that were literally all split in terms of waiting in line between these three places. I'll give Dona Aida's the benefit of the doubt and that they may have just been overwhelmed with the crowd hence the long wait time. However, I should note that I also caught a glimpse of this place at the Latin Food Festival in Oakland (much more successfully put together than the festival in San Jose) and they seemed to be backed up there as well. Once again, the empanadas from here were delicious and had I picked up my order immediately, I would have given a five star review, but it does seem like they are best used for pre-orders/catering rather than made-to-order at an event.
