My boyfriend and I chose this dinner spot because of their ability to accommodate dietary restrictions (I'm vegan, he is not). The waiter told us it would be no problem for the chef to make a vegan appetizer and entree. We started off with cocktails which were delicious but overpriced ($20 per drink). We were then brought an appetizer salad to split which was their beet salad with the cheese omitted to make it vegan. We both enjoyed the salad but thought it was fairly small. My boyfriend ordered a steak for his entree which he thought was very well put together and cooked nicely. My entree on the other hand was pretty disappointing. I was presented a bowl that was almost entirely beans mixed with asparagus, artichokes, and a light broth. While it tasted okay, the dish was overall uninspired and it felt like they did the bare minimum to accommodate my preferences. Casual high end restaurant. Felt like an upscale mom and pop farm-to-table restaurant. My coworkers and I came here during our lunch break during work as it was recommended by one of my coworkers. The food was delicious and very filling. The restaurant isn't too big and there isn't that much parking, but we didn't seem to have any issues during lunch time. Clarity was a place built by Chef Jon Krinn with the help of Dan (the landlord). Clarity was a place full of love as the staff were all family and the art of the food was something special because of chef Nick Palermo. But the heart of Clarity laid at the center of the family. Everything had changed once Dan's wife, Victoria, got involved. Victoria fired the GM and rid of the staff that were at the heart of its energy. Moreover, she did it without a back up plan and took a vacation. In the midst of the chaos, two servers stepped up to run the place but were basically bullied out by her, leading to most of the staff leaving, including Chef Nick. It is absolutely sad to see a place, once full of love and a beautiful sense of community, be run into the ground for the greed. read more

A hidden gem in the Vienna business park that gave me clarity on what good food tastes like! I came here for a work party and had an outstanding all-around experience. FOOD: My palette felt completely satisfied! I had the Cast Iron Seared Green Circle Chicken Breast with la ratte fingerling potatoes. The tender juicy chicken encased in a layer of crispy deep-fried batter made my heart sing all night. DRINKS: Fabulous wine and beer selection. I ordered the Domaine Bernard Fleuriet et Fils 2016 Anthocyane (Sancerre). The wine's aroma of aged wood perfectly complemented the ripe, juicy black cherry fruits. SERVICE: excellent. Overall, Clarity is my favorite restaurant in northern Virginia. read more

Had a salad and mussels with cocktails and after watching their pastry chef ordered some cheesecake with coffee. The salad was yummy with creamy cheese. I loved this restaurant!! The service was amazing!! I forgot our server's name but she was so nice and she was able to answer every question I asked her! I asked her a question for about almost every aspect of the dinner! We walked in on a Wednesday​ and there were already so many people that were in there for the happy hour. I had a reservation so we were seated immediately​. I started off with the margarita and I didn't really like it too much. The big Rock (ice cube) in the Margarita didn't really make sense for that drink, as a margarita should have a few medium sized rocks. I did really like the salt because it was a seasoned salt that had different spices in it as well! We started out with some bread and the foie gras and the fried calamari! I really liked both of these appetisers. The only downside was the fact that the foie gras was a little too sweet. I think that the foie gras can stand on its own and they added way too much sweetness with the sauce and the french toast. But I do really like that they gave you a lot of food to share for the appetisers. The Calamari was really good too! I really liked the slice of pork belly next to it too. I really liked that additive. I would get this again because I loved the sauce as well! For entrees we got the lamb and we also got the fish! I loved both of these! The Lamb was perfect and I really liked the sauce and the puree that was underneath the lamb. I would come back to the restaurant just to get this! I really liked the second cocktail that I got as well and they had a fantastic Voigner as well! I loved their wide selection of cocktails & wine. I really liked the well-roundedness of this menu and I love how they change it often as well! We got a fantastic lava cake dessert as well and I loved it! This restaurant has been one of the best experiences I have had. I never expected that every dish would be so good! I loved the presentations​ of everything and the way that every dish had a wonderful sauce and full finish! Visited Clarity, after we discovered that Eddie V's was fully booked because of restuarant week. Clarity is tucked away at the back of a plaza, for a second I thought the GPS was playing tricks on me. An unique establishment. The menu is changed daily. In all honesty I wasnt too excited clarity after glancing over the menu. Service: Service was mediocre at best. The hostess had no personality. The waiter looked unbothered, he was there in the physical but absent minded. We were served other people food twice. Not to mentioned we waited an hour and 10 minutes after we placed our order to get food. The waiters service is akin to a diswasher. Service was 0 star. Food: The food was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious every bit of it. Had 14 day dry aged durco pork schnitzel to start and it was beyond delicious. After having to wait for over and our I became hangry and forgot the name of the other dishes we ordered. The food is definitely 5 stars. I had been eager to try Clarity after hearing a lot of positive buzz around it, so with a family birthday coming up I was excited for an excuse to book a reservation. Upon arriving, I immediately appreciated the upscale yet relaxed ambience; too many restaurants nowadays utilize "mood" lighting far too dark to properly appreciate a social dining experience, so I was happy to find that Clarity was fairly well lit. The restaurant had also prepared personalized menus for my father's birthday, which was a nice touch. We were given an initial basket of bread, freshly baked each morning according to our waiter, with olive oil, both of which I happily gorged myself on. I then ordered the truffle cacio e pepe and caramelized day boat scallops, satisfying both my craving for pasta as well as for seafood. The cacio e pepe came with a generous amount of thinly sliced truffle on top, maybe even a little too much, and had a nice creamy consistency. The scallops, however, were a bit more of a letdown, mainly because there was a grand total of two on my plate. In addition, though the scallops themselves tasted fresh, I thought the paired purée was slightly off, and thus tried to have the scallops alone as much as possible. Overall, though I did enjoy my meal for the most part, I don't see myself coming back due to the sheer imbalance of value for food quantity and quality. Nothing really turned me off, but nothing necessarily wowed me either. Vienna's got a culinary wonder in town! After reading so much about this hidden spot and it's awesome chef, I decided to make a reservation on a recent trip home. And man, I'm glad I did. To start, they've got a great beer/wine list filled with local and other smart options. I ended up with a Pilsner, while my pal had some wine. From there we had the octopus appetizer (incredible) with the brussel sprout dish (fine, but we didn't finish it). From there we feasted on some roasted chicken, which was cooked to perfection, and the lamb special. Both dishes were superb, and I can't remember the last time I had a meal so simple, yet so succulent. We closed down the house with the pistachio crepe (A MUST) and rolled out of there happy campers. Loved the service, the sweet purse-hanger gift, and the ambience. You absolutely must visit! read more

This wonderful little restaurant is tucked away in something like a strip mall in this suburban neighborhood.The atmosphere is upscale and the service was impeccable. We ordered multiple dishes, including the scallops, veal rib, lamb, and goat. The red and white wine selection was also extensive and of good quality. Our waiter was sociable and the chef de cuisine even came out to our table to personally introduce himself to us and chat with us! This restaurant had delicious food and had outstanding chefs, perhaps they still do. I understand the quality has come down over the years and some of the top chefs who were there at the beginning left. I used to go there when it opened but it had issues. A friend of mine went there at my request but since he is a foodie he let me discover the problems on my own. he was correct. This evening I went there to get some food for my mother to bring home. I was the ONLY customer in the place and when I requested that the TV be turned off, the request was refused as the owner apparently wants it on ALL of the time. I canceled my food and dessert order and left immediately. Thank GOD. it saved me god knows how much $$$. $18 for a small bowl of gazpacho. REALLY??? ! I get inflation but oh my god this is ... I cannot find a word for this... ripping people off. For that price I expect a more customer oriented dining experience. $8 for a beer. Okay that might be pretty standard. Go here if you want people to not to provide an accommodating experience for the customer. WHY do I have to put up with TV's to interfere with my digestion??? I get it people cannot sit and be by themselves without electronics, but get REAL, I was the ONLY customer in this place and I was leaving shortly.. OWNER OF CLARITY... guess you don't give a S*&% about what your customers want. A quiet relaxing dining experience. The chefs and pastry chef were wonderful. the marching orders from the owner seemed to preclude accommodating my request for what ??? 15 minutes??? AND ... It's a cute restaurant with an open kitchen for any foodie. It's definitely a reprieve from those large run of the mill restaurants in the malls and gallerias. Service is also attentive and friendly. Here's what we've ordered: - Scallops: Cooked perfectly - Beef cheeks: Savory and tender - Tuna two-ways: Fresh tuna and cut well so that there wasn't any of the unappetizing sinew that I've experienced a lot lately and have turned me away from order it at a lot of restaurants - Seared porgy, octopus, mussel, shrimp: This was okay. the octopus was tender, but I much prefer it when it's grilled. In March we celebrated a milestone birthday for my husband, and Clarity made it a memorable celebration with great food, service, and ambience. I was apprehensive to go back this month based on recent reviews, but am happy to report that we had a FABULOUS time last night. My husband and I came for our anniversary dinner and noticed that there was an odd smell to the place when we walked in. Do not leave due to the smell. I think that day the smell might have been from the oysters. They have a coat check which is convenient. We sat down and the waiter brought us bread with olive oil and their bread was so soft and delicious! I ordered a glass of Chablis and my husband got the cocktail honey don't bee a peach. Both were wonderful drinks. We ordered 2 appetizers because we couldn't choose. The oecchiette pasta and the flash seared kanpachi. They were so good! That pasta was sooo tasty! We were also happy the pasta order itself wasn't teeny tiny haha. I loved the veggies that came with the kanpachi. It was also cool to have it seared. I've always had it as a cold crudo. Then I ordered the scallop and shrimp risotto. LOVED IT. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the risotto well done! The shrimp to me were a bit over cooked but my husband thought they were really good. He ordered the short rib and thought it was great. The carrots, mash, and beets were delicious. His only complaint was he thought the short rib was a dry and wish they used more of their delicious sauce on the short rib. We then finished off with the crème brûlée. It was yummy! The toppings on it seemed a bit much but honestly it was all soo good. It made the presentation of it much better. I return to try more things! read more

I tried the 6 course tasting menu and was not disappointed! There are 4 courses listed and 2 extra courses that are "surprises" the tasting menu (without alcohol) is $75 per person. For wine pairing it's more. The waiter was very flexible; I told him I didn't like chocolate so he substituted the chocolate dessert on the tasting menu for whatever else I wanted. Surprisingly I enjoyed all the starters and desserts more than the entree courses... they were just much more interesting/unique to me. See pictures a kaffir lime leaf ice cream! When I go back I will probably just order starters and dessert. Doing the tasting menu gave me a little taste of so many things so I'll know what I like - granted, their menu rotates! I went on a cold fall night and there were many seasonal items on the menu to represent the season. The only reason I have to give it 4 stars is because of the wait time in between courses. The waiter was very apologetic and the chef gave us a extra course to share because it was taking so long. There seemed to be confusion on the night we went ... they brought the same course to the table twice and we had to tell them we already had it. The service was fine, nothing noteworthy, however the owner was down to earth, personable and showed the guests how he genuinely cared for our opinions and aimed to please our palettes. So glad I found this restaurant! We wanted to try a new one today post-shopping, and this was only 8 minutes from Tysons Corner. It's pretty hidden. Maps said it was on the right but if we had just turned onto East St NE it would of been much easier to find. Service is really good. All the staff members here are super nice and helpful. Our waiter, Tommy, was great!! He was attentive but wasn't bothersome. He also made really good suggestions on what to order. I had the Ophelia which was refreshing and light with notes of rosemary. I would probably order this again next time and maybe get a second drink to try. He had the Green with Envy which he liked. I tried it and thought it was too strong. The flavors were good though! (Drinks) The bread is good, and when we were here they had these three kinds: parmesan, french and currant (like a raisin). They gave us more bread after we finished the first basket. Then we were about to get more when we told them we were good on the bread, haha. So nice of them to keep offering though! (Complementary bread) The octopus is flavorful (a little salty to me but still good). It comes with bok choy and eggplant. (Braised Spanish Octopus) I love the scallops. They were cooked perfectly. (Rubbery scallops are the worst, am I right? Happy to say these weren't at all.) The corn and the bacon bits that came with the dish were delicious as well. I definitely recommend this dish. (Caramelized Diver Scallops) The Roasted Pennsylvania Chicken came in a plentiful portion. It was really good and satisfying. The chicken was juicy and I liked the skin. There was a bit of fat around it but it was easy to avoid eating as it came off quickly. (Probably helped keep the chicken from not getting dry?) I was thinking about getting the fingerling potatoes as a side anyways but seeing that the chicken came with some swayed me in ordering this dish. My boyfriend wanted to try the House Charcuterie and he enjoyed the different meats. The brioche that came with it was tasty too. If there was nothing else to eat I could probably just eat a bunch of that and be happy. Their menu comes with a variety of dishes and it changes daily (if I remember correctly). It is a smaller menu, but I don't like to be overwhelmed with pages of options, so it was great! I trust that I'll probably like most of their dishes so I can't wait to come back! I can't believe I haven't been to this gem until tonight. This place is not where you want to go for ambience, but just for quality, delicious food and friendly, helpful service. Unbelievably reasonable for the quality. We shared the scallops and the pork belly as appetizers - I would have ordered a few more of the pork belly for an entree. The noodles, broth, egg and pork were harmonious. For entrees - I split the fettuccine and the striped bass with a friend and was not disappointed. I could have ordered either solo and would have been happy but it was perfection to try both. The brownie dessert (previously their bread pudding?) was a must if you are a chocolate lover. Crump was such a helpful server from the beginning to end (wine and food selections). He made our dining experience far more enjoyable. This space used to be a deli and it somewhat feels lack luster in the front of the house. I would recommend they hang cool framed mirrors or play off of the deco chandeliers. The back of the house where the kitchen and bar are is probably more suitable for hanging out/younger crowd. Will definitely come back. read more

Every time we come, the menu is different, food creative, and experience warm. We started with a couple courses to share first. We elected the calamari salad and the scallops. It's such a challenge for some to cook scallops, but it was so easy for Clarity! Came out perfectly seasoned and texture exactly right. Two of us ordered the NY strip and bone marrow and one ordered elk. All the meats were cooked to perfection. NY strip isn't typically my favorite cut but it was cooked tender and well. One caveat we didn't realize until after dinner, was we didn't get the bone marrow with either of our steaks! We advised Chef as he was visiting tables and it was graciously taken care of without a hitch. Wish we knew what that marrow tasted like if the steak was that delicious! The desserts were all displayed beautifully, and were all good. We chose the custard, something lime, and the flourless chocolate cake. One note was our server seemed very new. He was such a nice person, but didn't know any prices off the top of his head of the food items nor the details in the food - he had to consult a menu each time. This is our go-to spot for date night and special occasions. Always impressed by the service, wine list, and ever-changing, innovative and perfectly prepared dishes. Can't go wrong with the tasting menu and wine pairing, but ordering a la carte is great too! Sharing our experience during COVID, which was wonderful!! Highly recommend coming here if you want to have a normal dining experience but are worried about exposure. Clarity has clearly put their customers first, delivering a wonderful and safe experience. We sat in the parking lot and each table had its own tent above it. I was hesitant to dine in the parking lot, doubting it would provide a great ambiance, but it actually offered more privacy than being in a dining room and once the sun set it was quite romantic with a lantern lighting up each table. My family, a party of 7, came to Clarity to ring in my 30th birthday with flavor and style. It did not disappoint on the flavor front, that's for sure! The food we received was all cooked perfectly and bursting with flavor and creativity. I loved the variety of fresh-baked bread, the mussels starter was deeeelish to start with, and my scallop entree was wonderful. I also got to taste some of my family's dishes, and I have to say that the elk loin in particular was also amazing. The missteps came from the fact that despite us appreciating the friendliness and kindness of our waitress, the customizability of the menu, the ability to bring our own cake with no cutting fee (awesome!) and the great food, service was sloooooooooow and somewhat uneven. Everyone was really nice, but at one point our waters were all refilled with sparkling water that had gone flat instead of regular flat water, and it took like 10 minutes for A) someone to come by so we could even tell them, and then another 15 - 20 minutes for them to replace our water glasses. I ordered a cocktail that took a million years to come out, after everyone else had already been served their wine and had their soft drinks refilled. Our 7:30 dinner reservation had us getting out of there at 10:30. Now, two of our party members did get the tasting menu (one regular, one vegetarian), which I think contributed to the slow timeline of dinner, but you'd think if they specialize in doing tasting menus, they'd have the timing down a little bit better? I dunno, there was still just a LOT of waiting around in between courses for all of us. Luckily, we were there to celebrate so we weren't reeeeally on a time-crunch, aside from the fact that it was a Wednesday night and a couple of people had to be at work the next morning, haha, but just by the time dessert finally rolled around we were all so exhausted, it kind of put a damper on the whole experience. :( I think that Clarity rivals many of the best restaurants in the DMV foodwise, and I loved the atmosphere and open environment -- very hip and trendy. But the service -- or at least the timing of food? Idk what the exact issue was -- could definitely do with some tweaking. Like Taylor E mentioned in her review, I also found it interesting/annoying/presumptuous that the automatic gratuity for large parties is 20%. This was one of the most amazing meals I've had in a LONG time. From service to food to ambiance Clarity was first rate! I had a reservation for 2, but my friend injured herself and was unable to join me. The staff took this is stride and also was super accommodating when I realized my seat had a strong draft from the front door. I started with oysters followed by the chefs tasting menu. This option changes daily and they had added tuna to the first course. I wasn't thrilled because I don't love tuna, but was willing to try it, because the rest of the menu looked divine. I happened to mention this to my server. Imagine my surprise when the kitchen ran out of tuna and instead substituted a lobster tail. I was blown away!! Now I'm not a fish lover but the pan fried grouper with fingerling sweet potatoes was unexpectedly delightful!! It was the perfect balance of salty and sweet. Every bite was just a subtle explosion of flavor. Then came the short rib. Now I'll be honest, I didn't love the texture of the trumpet mushroom. It was a little dense for my palette and I'm not a fan of fennel so I wasn't overly excited about the accompaniments for this dish, but somehow, none of it mattered. They came together beautifully!! I would be remiss not to mention the "gifts from the kitchen". At the beginning of the meal, I received a yummy gulf shrimp appetizer and before dessert a pistachio mousse with chocolate ganache. While the second gift was delicious it was a tad heavy. Finally, we wrapped dinner up with a deliciously delightful champagne cake with cloud-like strawberry buttercream, raspberry Ice cream and raspberry powder. The chef personally greeted me and gave me a personal send off. What a exceptional touch!! From beginning to end, this was a wonderful and epic meal. I will be back!! read more
