Stopped by because of a pop up. The staff were nice and friendly, the cafe is quite small but there is plenty of seating outside. They are known for their breads and treats and having a cute display of their array of baked treats, but when we entered at opening, it looks like they were still setting up. I ordered the caramel coconut bun, and it wasn't that great. It wasn't sweet enough, the bread was kind of stale and it needed more flavor to be a caramel bun, I tasted no caramel. It was part of the promotion so if I return I won't re order it. Side note: once we ordered the bun, it was part of the promotion to receive a perfume and a lipgloss and the staff were unsure of what they were supposed to give out. When we told them, they initially said "that's all we have" until a staff member went to look again and discovered there were additional items. It may be wise to educate staff and be knowledgeable of what events are occurring if you're doing a collaboration with a wide known company. read more

We stopped specifically because they had raisin challah and were really disappointed. There was maybe 10 raisins in the entire loaf, like they took half a dozen and just smashed them onto the outside of the finished plain loaf. I went there to pick up a sandwich and some pastries as I was running errands. My small well-behaved dogs were with me. I went inside, to the counter, ordered food. No one asked about my dogs. Once they had taken my money and I'm waiting in the food pick up area, another worker comes up to me and tells me my dogs can't be inside. I say, I'm just waiting to pick up and leave. She says I have to go outside with my dogs. It is 79 degrees. Clark Street Bakery is certainly entitle to their rules, and I have no issue with that. But if they do not want me and my dogs inside to order and pick up a to go order, then tell me that BEFORE you let me order and take my money. I would have gone somewhere else. read more

This was my first visit to Clark Street in Brentwood. The bakery is beautiful and the pastries and breads are displayed neatly and attractively. Of course I had the ham and cheese croissant and it was perfect! I also could not skip the world's best monkey bread and got one of those too. Service was friendly and efficient. It's a bit pricey ($18 for tuna melt, $22 for pastry and breakfast burrito) but the food is very filling and the portions are huge. Interior is cute and staff were friendly; they have lots of seating inside. Aesthetic inside is adorable. I really liked the gruyère and thyme croissant; it was super buttery and cheesy. I ordered the pistachio saffron croissant instead and it was densely filled with pistachio butter and topped with pistachios. I enjoyed the flavor, but the croissant did not have your standard flaky buttery layers. I paired my snack with an iced latte with pistachio milk and maple syrup, extra $2, not noted on their menu or signs. The coffee was mediocre. I would not go out of my way for this bakery. The staff was extremely welcoming and made me feel at home. The variety and quality of pastries is amazing! They are open until 3:30 pm and most of the pastries sold out by 1:30 pm. I came to work here and they have ample seating but only one outlet so plan accordingly. Drink: I had the iced matcha but wasn't too impressed. The flavor just wasn't there, perhaps missing some sweetener or extra matcha powder. My friend got a chocolate cookie and it was okay but I would opt for another pastry that is flaky or cream filled. I tried the Swedish Cardamom twisty bun - this is delicious, somewhat gooey but in no way overly sweet or heavy, and with cardamom which is definitely there but not overwhelming. This is a really nice bakery and casual lunch spot, super low key in Brentwood (if that's possible). The space is open and comfortable to have a coffee with a friend, or get some work done. The baked goods and breads are delicious! Try the cream bun if you like cardamom and sugar donuts. The coffee drinks are very very good as well. Zero bitterness, comes out hot, not tepid (huge pet peeve!) and priced competitively. The only not great experience was the pretty frigid and low energy service, specifically from the too cool dude manning the front and taking orders. You know, one of those moments when you feel like you're putting them out by asking questions about their menu items. Whatever, guy. We got a cardamom bun ($5), ham & cheese croissant ($6), kouign amann ($5), monkey bread ($5.50), and strawberry bostock ($6). LOVED the cardamom bun and ham & cheese croissant, and would definitely come back just for those two (and to try the cinnamon and vanilla buns, too). Cardamom bun was soft, fresh, and had a nice medium density to it. Such an intense cardamom flavor. Ham & cheese croissant had incredibly crisp, flaky exterior layers that shattered with every bite. I haven't been to France recently, but I did try three of the best croissants in Montreal, Quebec in the last year, and Clark Street's matches those about 95%. The cheese they used was so, so tasty. There was some baked/burnt cheese at the edge, and I always thought I hated baked, hardened cheese, but I realized with this croissant that I just hate low quality baked cheese. Kouign amann was alright. I'm just not a huge fan of this particular shape of kouign amann. Because it's so flat, 95% of the pastry is the crispy, caramelized layers and there's no center that's super soft and slightly chewy. It's similar to a palmier in that regard. The monkey bread also has the same issue, though I feel like this is just a personal preference. I really love having that contrast between the crisp, caramelized outer layers and the incredibly soft, moist interior. Strawberry bostok was decent enough. It was kind of like a soft, sugar-dusted french toast slice with strawberries. As a side note, I kind of wish they had their bread loaves either behind glass or on higher shelves because I saw some 5-6 year old children putting their hands all over the ones on the lower shelves. That's more the parents' fault, but sometimes it's good to anticipate that there might be some parents who don't reign in their kids. read more

As all the other 5-star reviews also say, the bread at Clark Street is truly amazing. My favorite item here is the Caprese Sandwich--it is the best Caprese Sandwich I have ever had. While other restaurants may perhaps match in terms of the quality of the sandwich fillings, the Clark Street bread makes this Caprese Sandwich stand-out above all the rest. I also love their almond croissants. The texture is always perfect, and the flavors are very balanced. Additionally, the coffee they serve is Devocion, which makes me nostalgic for when I would visit the Devocion Cafe in Williamsburg, NY when I used to live in NYC. I have always been able to park in their small plaza, but I could imagine some mornings it may be tough to find parking. I'm usually getting the last available spot or am lucky that another customer is leaving the lot in that same moment. In terms of seating, there is both indoor and outdoor seating here. I have spent many great mornings at Clark Street, and I am always looking forward to my next visit! read more

I was in the area for work and had stopped by for a pastry and an iced matcha latte. The person before me ordered a ham and cheese crossaint and so I decided to order one too. Wow it was the best ham and cheese crossaint I've ever had and I've had quite a few of these all over the world. The cheese they use is so rich and tasty and the ham I tasted like a high quality one. The iced matcha latte was served creamy matcha and unsweetened and I really just love it that way. The shop is a cute ambiance with students and teachers from Brentwood school hanging out there on their breaks. They have WiFi too and it's a nice place to work but parking is only an hour on the streets. Definitely prefer to support mom and pop shops over the monopoly of Starbucks everywhere! read more

Ordered their jambon beurre (ham and butter) sandwich. They ran out of their baguette bread. Instead of a slice of comte they gave pieces of comte that did not cover the entire piece of bread. Bread is really tasty - you can't argue with that. However, both times I went in, my drink was simply forgotten to prepare, and had to be reminded. This spoils the impression a little, especially when you stand and wait without any reaction. Even the lid on the coffee did not hold well - everything spilled on the road. Ive tried the Swedish cardamom bun, which is good if you like a more bready thick texture. Their pan au chocolat is buttery and flakey with soft melted chocolate inside. The cheddar and chive scone is again perfectly made. It is mildly crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I've had the quiche and breakfast sandwich both of which were great. They were able to substitute the bacon for avocado without any problems. There is metered parking in the shopping plaza, though it is limited.
