It was my first time visiting Literati Cafe and I'd go back, but not for the food. I got a breakfast sandwich and the eggs looked and tasted microwaved. It made me nauseous. The overly buttered sourdough toast made it kind of better? Lol. The staff were attentive and friendly - no complaints there. Anyhow, I went to get some work done and that was exactly what this place is for. Parking lot in the back is teenie and fills up quickly, but the lot immediately behind that is from Ralph's supermarket and it was enough to park there for their 2 hour limit. (There was a Ralph's employee walking around, surveying the cars. So maybe move your car after 2 hours...) Inside, there's lots of seating and it was easy enough to find a spot to lock in and get work done. The music was an Italian uplifting Playlist. Calm, cute place to write or work. A solid breakfast or lunch option in a casual setting. This is not a full service restaurant instead you order at the counter, they give you a number, and deliver the food to you. Inside is pretty large, there are many different seating options and it seemed like a popular place for people to sit and do some work as well given that they have many coffee options on the menu. The staff was very polite and they do have a small free parking lot in the back however we ended up doing free street parking. For breakfast, I chose a few pastry items to start, the cinnamon churro croissant was the standout and for my breakfast I chose the Eggs Benedict, which I thought was very good. SPACIOUS CAFE 12 of us met for lunch here, and this huge cafe on the corner of Wilshire and Bundy went out of their way to set up tables for us on their enclosed patio. Each of us ordered what we wanted at the counter. I opted for the Old School Benedict ($14.50) - two poached eggs and Canadian bacon on an English muffin with Hollandaise sauce on the side - which was served with hash browns. We were given numbers to take to our table, and it wasn't long before our food was delivered. I was having so much fun, I forgot to photograph it! It was so good, I cleaned my plate. Although this place wasn't crowded on a weekday afternoon, people were scattered throughout the establishment, working (or pretending to) on their laptops. Prefer cocktails to coffee? Huge changes from 26 years ago when I had my restaurant there. Nice outdoor patio seating. Still hard manage on a prominent corner and riff raff of people. This was my first time visiting this Cafe I've been meaning to try this place for a very long time. I had the opportunity to pop over today and I was not disappointed. I had the turkey avocado Panini and a cup of lentil soup. My friend also had the same sandwich and a cup of the tomato soup. It came with homemade potato chips. The sandwich was enormous we should've shared just one the bread was toasty on the outside, but soft on the inside the turkey was fresh. The avocado was perfectly soft and the ingredients married well with one another. The lentil soup was outstanding I would return just for this item. The homemade potato chips were a little bit greasy, not as crispy as I would've liked, but they were still good. I noticed everyone else was eating breakfast, even though it was around lunchtime and I was a little envious. Their food looked delicious. I will definitely be returning. The hashbrowns were not cooked inside and the outside was crusty and did not taste well, not really cooked professionally. also one of the eggs on the muffin (muffins not good quality, really bad) the muffin with the egg on top was missing the yolk like it fell out or something. I met some friends here for lunch on a weekend and it wasn't too busy. There's an outdoor patio where they allow pets. When you first enter the restaurant, there's an order counter basically immediately in front of you/kind of to the right of the entrance. The person working behind the counter when I came in was extra patient with me as I was way too hungry and could barely make up my mind on what to order. I ended up getting the breakfast tacos and they were pretty standard, nothing really special. Though I did appreciate that they came with a pretty decently sized serving of sour cream. I also got a lemonade and it was tasty, super refreshing, and not too sweet! I'm glad I finally stopped by to try this cafe. Had a very nice experience coming here for lunch! Prices were fair - our total was $34 (without tip) for a double espresso, Literati Club, and Breakfast Burrito. The burrito was rated a 3.75/5 - nice, good, quality ingredients. Nothing fancy, just simple and tasty. It comes with a side of sour cream, salsa, and (very good) guacamole. The Literati Club panini was a 4.5/5 - it comes with a side salad or potato chips. The portion was very filling - I could only finish half. The jalapeño aioli on it is sooo good, I got an extra side of it and finished the whole thing. It's not spicy at all, just an herby delicious spread. They gave us pieces of paper with wifi code on it but we couldn't get it to activate on laptop or phone. Ended up having to hotspot. Plenty of other people were using their laptops though so not sure if they experienced the same or if the wifi is just hit or miss. There are wall outlets which is nice. The patio is pretty with tons of plants and has a very calm, slow vibe. The music is very quiet and seemed to only play slow jazz music. I would love to hear a mixture of music that's more upbeat and "fun" since it's located on a bustling corner in West LA. Service was good and as expected - order at the counter, take your number to a table of your choice, then the food is brought out to you. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating as well as outlets for those of us who like to work from cafes. They have a variety of photographs although I couldn't get what the theme was. The staff are very welcoming and the crowd was a mix of young professionals and older adults enjoying their coffee. Wifi: they have one hour of complimentary wifi and you have to ask a code for two additional hours. This was interesting and should definitely be changed to unlimited wifi. Drinks: I ordered the small Spanish latte and it was so big! I'm not sure if it was a mistake or they are really this big, I wasn't complaining though! The Spanish latte is slightly sweetened with condensed milk and i loved the art. Overall, this was a spacious and clean cafe to get some work from. TERRIBLE SERVICE. I've been here 5+ times because I used to enjoy the ambiance, food, and service for working and studying but I will not be back. I have never felt so unwelcome by an establishment in my life. I got there and was immediately greeted with attitude and as I'm trying to order the woman at the cash register is interrupting me. She then, of course, got my order wrong because she was too busy trying to speak over me. I ordered my drink iced and when the worker brought it to me hot, I nicely told him I asked for it iced and he took it back and said the ticket did not say iced. The woman from the register comes out and aggressively tells me "you didn't say iced but ok" and gives me my drink in a to-go cup (I asked for my drink to be for dining in). She immediately starts walking away and I tell her "yes I did" and she replies, from ACROSS the cafe with her back turned "ok". I didn't realize coming here would put me in a weird, aggressive, confrontational situation. If I didn't have to make a meeting I would have packed up my things and left as I was scared she would come over and try to pick yet another fight with me. I tried to inform an employee of the situation and all he did was say "okay" and continued about his job. I'm usually a very understanding and friendly patron as I have also worked in customer service. I'm very understanding of mistakes but this was unacceptable behavior. I really enjoy the coffee and general ambiance at Literati, so I generally tolerate the incredibly slow service. The employees do not seem to move with any sense of urgency and seem to have lacked basic food and beverage service training. In addition to speed, I am compelled to write this review today because of quality and accuracy. I ordered a to-go coffee and also requested if it would be possible to purchase some of the delicious gluten-free bread (to-go) that is served with some of their breakfast meals. In my experience, the bread is always a thick sliced multigrain with nuts and seeds. It is delicious. The female cashier confirmed it was possible and charged me six dollars for what she advised me would be three slices of bread. I requested - and she noted on the receipt - that the bread NOT be toasted I would be saving it for use later. After waiting nearly 20 minutes for plain bread and inquiring with staff twice, I received a foil package of the bread. When I arrived home, it was TWO thin white slices of TOASTED bread. It was already cold and dry and will be unusable for the recipe I had hoped to utilize it for. I could've bought two loaves of the same general white gluten free bread at Trader Joe's - in LESS time than it took waiting for the wrong order. I always forget about this place, but am glad I remembered it. My son Fyørj was visiting from Estonia. Hungry from his flight (through Hungary, of all places), he wanted to get a bite and so we alighted to this fine establishment. Staff: Very friendly and made excellent suggestions. Food: Tasty and large portions (you can have the leftovers for lunch or dinner... or breakfast... who am I to tell you when yo eat?) I had the turkey panini. Fyørj, unable to get anything that even approximates Mexican food in Tallinn, went for the breakfast burrito. Both were of notably good flavour (though one oddity: Fyørj's burrito was "wet" and was sitting in a small amount of water. Wiping it with a napkin took care of it, but what the heck?) One downside: No ambiance. Tables are well spaced apart, seating is comfortable, but it is nothing to write home about (sorry, Mom and Dad... though I do promise to call this Sunday).
