Huckleberry Cafe is a very warm and cozy spot in Santa Monica. The staff is helpful as I was trying to make a decision for a 2nd pastry and she said she liked the cinnamon roll. I was in a rush after an appointment to grab something quick for breakfast so opted to go with the pastry counter options. One of the best items continues to be the maple bacon scone! I never thought that I would give five stars to a business that screwed up my order so badly but here we are! I was in the area and decided to go in for sandwich and coffee. Once we placed our orders and sat outside with with the number 22 on the table table our food did not arrive after waiting a long time. I went inside to inquire and spoke with the person who turned out to be the manager. He went in the kitchen and apologized and said our order would be there shortly. I went back outside and we waited a little bit longer and he personally brought two plates out. The only problem was that it was not our food! He felt terrible and went back inside and then came out again to ask us what we had ordered. I went back in showed him and when he asked pointed out the person who helped us. I also explained that I had no hard feelings and these things happen. He was extremely apologetic and so was our server. They both kept checking up on us after delivering the correct food. They offered us free dessert and to my surprise a gift certificate to return. To me this experience deserves five stars because mistakes can and do happen and it's a testament of good service how mistakes are resolved. I feel badly that I don't remember the manager's name but he was extraordinary because the place was absolutely packed and he went way above and beyond for us and was extremely apologetic and graceful. We sat outside so the ambience was that of a busy street but it was a beautiful day. We look forward to returning! read more

Super good! We came bc I heard Phil had been there before? I'd say the highlights were 1- the Coffee Cake, 2- the gf pumpkin muffin, 3- the breakfast burrito. Idk what was in the burrito exactly, but it has a lot of flavor packed in. I wanna say there's a salsa that comes inside that's pretty overpowering. That's my only critique, because it kind of dominated the other flavors. But thats ok it was still good. The chips were great as well. My favorite was definitely the coffee cake. I would love to try more pastries and bakery items in the future, maybe some pancakes. When we got there we were looking for a table big enough for 6. Before we could figure it out, a server spotted us and said he'd take care of it for us. In a few mins we had a nice set up ready to go. Glad he took initiative to help us out! The beet and carrot juice was $6, and it was smaller than a small glass. The huevos rancheros were $20, but you only get two tortillas with two eggs. I have been a customer of Huckleberry since they opened many years ago. Yesterday unfortunately I had an uncomfortable experience. I walked in just after 11:00 AM, I walked to the cash register walking past Adam who was at the register, there was no one else in line at the time. As I walked by I said I was going to take a look in the bakery case to see what the days offering were. I took a look and was walking the 6 feet back to the register when a woman walked in from the parking lot, passed me and walked just up to Adam, he then took her order, ignoring me entirely. Finally a lovely young woman came over to help me, I placed my order with her and walked back over to the register to pay thinking she would ring me up. Adam then continued to ignore me and loudly asked the women who had been helping me"what did SHE order"? He was so rude and made me feel like I was both unwelcome and very uncomfortable. Perhaps he was having a bad morning? Although Adam was perfectly polite to everyone else. Very disappointing. read more

My dining companion had assorted bakery products including a biscuit that was very well-made and tasty. For an order up place, the service was very good and they were attentive regarding coffee refills. The ambience itself is nothing to write home about - standard "order up breakfast/lunch/brunch place" setting. The food was solid, the coffee good, the staff nice, but I'm not sure it was worth the price. I personally just don't see it. That said, if you have the money go for it. During peak hours, it can be a bit of a scene, with long lines and a bustling seating area. However, they do offer both indoor and outdoor seating, and usually I do not have a problem getting a seat if I'm visiting solo. The service is efficient if somewhat impersonal; you order at the counter and then they bring your food to the table. My daughter and I chose Huckleberry for lunch on my wife's birthday. This is NOT a place for celebrations. The restaurant is noisy and crowded, especially sine we went on a Saturday. We all agreed that the food is very good. Two of urdered the Huckleberry Breakfast, the eggs were cooked as requested, the hash browns were crisp, as was the bacon. The third meal was the Fried Egg Sandwich, which looked great. Although you place and pay for your order before finding a table, the food was served promptly. This cafe serves all day breakfast from 7am to 3pm. I got here on a rainy day at 10:30am and there was a long line. I was meeting a friend for brunch and we were able to get a table relatively quickly despite the long line. The wait was well worth it! I got the green eggs and ham biscuit sandwich. The green part was chimichurri sauce which was flavorful and delicious! It went perfectly well with the soft eggs and the savory and sweet ham all topped over crusty and warm buttermilk biscuit. Their house sauce (Huck Hot Sauce which you can buy) was really good too. It wasn't too spicy yet flavorful. I also got the house coffee and they do offer free refills. The sandwich came with two halves, and I took the other half home. The price is high but the portion was generous. I couldn't resist picking up a dessert/pastry to-go since they all looked so appetizing. I got the upside down cornmeal cake and oh man, I had it for afternoon tea and it was divine! The cornmeal wasn't dry and the flavor was a bit tangy and with just the right amount of sweetness. I loved it. I can't wait to go back and try their other entrees such as the brisket hash, breakfast burrito, and the market vegetable bowl. The interior is casual and noisy. There is a parking lot in the back and metered parking on the street. I can tell this is a local favorite and it is now one of my favorites too! read more

We had a great experience! My girlfriend has some food sensitivities but there was plenty for her to eat here and the freshness made it feel better on her stomach. We got the quiche, summer burrata salad, and a scone to share along with coffee. As we ate, it felt fresh, light, and the perfect dishes to energize us for our day. There was plenty of flavor and we had no issues with our food and drinks. - There was parking behind so commuting was easy. Cons: - The items are all over-priced for the portions you get. Nothing absurd, but I was surprised at how much it was in the end. I would love to go back but because of the price, it will be mainly on special occasions or if other places are closed. - It was quite warm and loud inside. I'm sorry, but cute vibes aside, charging $22 (pre-tax) for a nub of salmon and two poached eggs on a small bed of potatoes is just a wee bit heinous. This is one of those dining experiences that further solidifies my lukewarm feelings toward brunch. Yes, I know, eggs are expensive these days, but this is a particularly steep upcharge! There's quasi-table service (you line up to order, seat yourself, and a waiter will bring over the entrees), but still not convinced that it justifies the price. Our server was also very hard to flag down when we were missing cutlery and plates...so, there's that. Aside from the very middle-of-the-road entree, I was pleasantly surprised by the GF semolina cake, which was nicely spiced and not-too-sweet. One slice was, IIRC, $6-7 dollars.
